I mean to say HND is 3years post secondary while PGD was said to be 1 year Cert. This is according to iqas

In Alberta for example, you can't use your HND or PGD for Masters.

Up till now, none. Nigeria PGD is almost useless there as u can't use for Masters.

If you got evidence of any school taking HND for Masters or even PGD, drop it here.

ShowYoung:

Thank you very much for attesting that HND is assessed to be equivalent of Canadian PGD. I only didn't want to show credential assessment because of privacy reason. At least I have seen 3 from WES, iqas, ices that belong to people that I know.

I will like if you can assist post the picture where it is stated that HND is equal to PGD too aside the 3 year diploma so it will be clearer and there won't be unnecessary argument on that again.

I agree with you HND = 3 year diploma + PGD.

For Canada, HND (distinction) was accepted for Master of Social Work by Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Also attached is another credential assessment from WES which assessed HND to be equivalent of Canadian PostGrad Cert.

HonourableJoe:
Good analysis @ShowYoung.

I could say easily your data could be correct for US and UK but from your writeup, you aren't giving so much abt Canada.

Now let me say this, Canada see your OND, HND as 3 years post secondary Diploma.
&
PGD as 1year graduate Certificate.

This is according to iqas which is a recognized body for evaluation in Canada.

The attached document is from iqas evaluation.

If its okay by you, drop names of schools and courses that admits HND for Masters in Canada.

Thank you so much @Honeysweetest I guess I was just a bit naive with the whole evaluation process. Now i know what to do. You are blessed.

Honeysweetest:
it stays for Five yrs,but u have to be sure it is the right evaluation for Canada express entry process.
Must be strictly for canada immigration program.
Also the reason lawyers are advised to use CES,iqas, ices is because they evaluate law as a professional degree, Wes do not always favour lawyers unless you get extra money and time for judicial review.

Thanks @Honeysweetest. I found out that there is International Credential Evaluation Service (ices) run by British Columbia and there is COMPARATIVE EDUCATION SERVICE by University of Toronto. Which of these were you recommending, please?

Honeysweetest:

iqas or you can do with CES.
I prefer CES.

POST 3

ENTERING THE POOL/CREATING AN EXPRESS ENTRY PROFILE - regardless of how low you think your CRS score is, please please please GET IN THE POOL i.e. SUBMIT AN EXPRESS ENTRY PROFILE

Once eligible (67/100 and above), you can create an Express Entry profile - you ONLY need your language exam results, ECA and NOC code to do this. See details on this below.

Start creating your profile HERE.

Entering the pool = creating a profile, this is NOT the same as submitting an application for permanent residence (PR). You only submit an application AFTER an invitation to apply (ITA).

*LANGUAGE EXAMS: read HERE. Language exam results are valid for 2 years.

Read up on how to convert your IELTS, CELPIP, TCF Canada or TEF Canada scores to CLB/NCLC HERE. A minimum of CLB7 in LRWS is required to qualify for FSW and set up an EE profile (for IELTS this is a LRWS 6/6/6/6). To get max CRS points for language (CLB10) you need IELTS LRWS 8.5/8/7.5/7.5, the step below that (CLB9) is LRWS 8/7/7/7.

The approved language tests are:
*English
-IELTS (International English Language Testing System) - IELTS General only (NOT Academic)
-CELPIP (Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program) - CELPIP General only
-PTE Core (Pearson Test of English) - PTE Core only

*French
- TEF Canada (Test d’évaluation de français) - no go write TEF Quebec o
- TCF Canada (Test de connaissance du français) - no go write TCF Quebec or TCF Tout Public o

*EDUCATIONAL CREDENTIAL ASSESSMENT (ECA): read HERE. Results are valid for 5 years. There are different types of ECAs, you need to get an ECA for IMMIGRATION.

Applicants must complete an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) through one of the designated agencies for education/degrees received outside of Canada to ensure that their foreign education is equivalent to Canadian education.

Even if you plan to study in Canada to increase your CRS, you should still evaluate your non-Canadian degrees...unless the Canadian degree is a Masters or PhD.

If you already have a PhD or MSc, you should ONLY evaluate your highest degree (regardless of if you also have a BSc, OND, HND).

If you already have a Masters, a second Masters degree (or other additional degrees except it's a PHD) will NOT increase your CRS, the only thing higher than one Masters degree is a PhD.

If you have a BSc, OND, HND and you're likely to go down the PNP route, it may be wise to evaluate ALL your degrees.

If you are not likely to go down the PNP route, evaluating a Bachelors in addition to OND and HND, does not give incremental CRS points when you already have the points from two or more degrees.

Designated Organisations: are listed HERE
1.Education Service – University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies (CES): evaluates LLB (for lawyers) as a professional degree (same CRS points as Masters)
2.International Credential Assessment Service of Canada (ICAS)
3.World Education Services (WES): most popular, but evaluates LLB as a Bachelors not as a professional degree. A VO may likely not award professional degree CRS points if your ECA does not explicitly say so. It was not advisable for Lawyers seeking maximum CRS points to use WES. However, this was challenged recently, read HERE and HERE for the judicial cases.
4.International Qualifications Assessment Service (iqas): evaluates LLB (for lawyers) as a professional degree (same CRS points as Masters) and evaluates RN and RM (for nurses) as 2 degrees
5.International Credential Evaluation Service (ices)

Some ECA organizations do not recognize degrees from Universities in the Republic of Benin, so research thoroughly and read the ECA organization’s websites before committing funds. In general, if your University is not recognized, then your ECA is worthless for FSW

Read HERE to understand your ECA report and determine the CRS and/or eligibility points you get from your evaluation.

Designated Professional Bodies:
Physicians: If your primary occupation is specialist or family physician (2021 NOC 31100, 31101, 31102) Medical Council of Canada (MCC) MUST do an ECA for your primary medical diploma.

Pharmacists: If you are a pharmacist (2021 NOC 31120) or studied pharmacy, read more HERE.

If you evaluate/complete an online course like CIMA, ACCA, BCS, indicate "distance learning" in CAPs, in bracket after your education and update location as your country of residence during the course, otherwise the system may automatically require a UK PCC.

*NATIONAL OCCUPATIONAL CLASSIFICATION (NOC), read HERE to find out how to choose your NOC and check the 2021 NOC TEER category (0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5) of your work experience.

You will NOT be eligible for FSW with a 2021 NOC TEER category 4 or 5 job.

NOCs FOR CATEGORY BASED DRAWS ARE HERE. For Category Based Draws the system is looking at the PA's NOC - not the spouse's NOC! It is also looking at work experience within the last 3 years, as opposed to 10 years for regular FSW

*MORE DETAILS ON NOC AND SKILLED WORK EXPERIENCE: read HERE.
You need to have AT LEAST one year CONTINUOUS, full-time (at least 30 hours of paid work per week) or equivalent part-time work experience (2 years of 15 hours of paid work per week) in an occupation that is 2021 NOC TEER category 0, 1, 2, 3 in the past 10 years. You can combine several NOCs and jobs to make up the 3 year maximum required but ONE of them, the PRIMARY NOC, must be 1 year CONTINUOUS.

*Work experience while studying & paid internships may count for FSW, read HERE for more details. Also read HERE.

*Self Employed applicants are also eligible for FSW, read HERE for more details.

*Work experience does NOT need to match education/degree for FSW (except for practicing Doctors/Pharmacists). FSW work experience is not about what you studied as a degree, but what you do/did in your job e.g. an engineering graduate working as a barber must choose the NOC for barbers not engineers. Also your job description in your reference letter must match the barber NOC. In order to be assigned points under FSW for foreign (non- Canadian) work experience, you must have performed the actions described in the lead statement, a substantial number of the main duties, including all essential duties of your chosen NOC and be paid. Read HERE and HERE for NOC rejection stories

*You do NOT need to meet the employment requirements listed on the NOC you choose (except for practicing Doctors/Pharmacists) e.g. your NOC “employment requirements” section may say a PhD is required for your NOC, however to qualify for FSW, you do not need to have a PhD, see HERE. This may be different for PNPs e.g. SINP.

*You only need to indicate jobs/NOCs you are claiming CRS points for in your work history (provided you are at 67 and above in terms of eligibility points without the other jobs/NOCs). Meaning, if you have 67 and above eligibility points with your 3 years work experience, then only provide references for the 3 years work experience and update everything else in personal history post ITA. Personal history only shows up AFTER ITA, it must have ALL activities in the last 10 years INCLUDING your work history (so this will look like you are updating work history activity twice). YOU DO NOT NEED TO PROVIDE PROOF OR DOCUMENTS FOR THINGS IN YOUR PERSONAL HISTORY THAT YOU ARE NOT CLAIMING CRS POINTS FOR.

You do not need to include your spouse's non-Canadian work experience in their work history, just add it to their personal history, spouse's non-Canadian work experience adds zero points to the CRS. Only add their education to their education history if they have an ECA, otherwise add to their personal history as well.

***NOC mismatch is a common reason for rejected FSW applications. Your job DESCRIPTION (i.e. the tasks you performed) must match your NOC. Your job TITLE does NOT need to match the NOC job titles. It is your JOB DESCRIPTION that must match the NOC duties, your degree is irrelevant (except you are a doctor or practising pharmacist). DO NOT COPY AND PASTE THE NOC DUTIES AS YOUR JOB DESCRIPTION. Lastly, those managerial NOC’s starting with 0 are for bosses, ensure you are an oga and your duties show that before choosing them. One rejection story had a youth corper/recent graduate claiming a managerial NOC, it didn’t end well.** Read the story HERE

NOC is so important that this person changed hers post AOR when she realised she had made an error, read HERE

*PROOF OF FUNDS (POF): You must show that you have enough money to settle in Canada. The amount of money you need depends on the size of your family. If you are single, your family size is 1. With a spouse, 2, with one child , 3 etc. Check the current values per family size HERE. A sample LOE for POF showing what your POF is comprised of is HERE. You must update the correct POF for your profile to be eligible. You only need to update the amount when you join the pool, HOWEVER you must provide actual evidence (e.g. bank letter, bank statements, gift deed etc.) of POF when you submit your application to IRCC. People often keep POF as a current or savings account balance, fixed deposit or money market investment with a fund/asset manager. Some have used microfinance banks.

Thank you. I don't have another except that BCS.
Please do you have any idea how CES charges or any other evaluating body.

Sorry about the ECA wahala.

Doesn't seem like some Benin Republic Unis are Internationally recognised. See links below, some people have had similar issues with CES and iqas.

Maybe explore:

1) check if your school is accredited by the Benin Republic Ministry of Education

2) sending your Benin docs to other ECA bodies: ICAS, ices etc and see what happens. Expensive option

3) do you have another Bachelor's from a different country e.g. Nigeria?

I want the evaluation body to regard the LLB certificate as a professional certification with a quick turn around.

Truth is that both CES and iqas will evaluate your LLB degree as a professional degree but CES is 15 to 20weeks if you submit your transcript by email directly from your university and 25 to 30 weeks if you submit by courier...iqas says theirs is 14weeks for any method.

At first I taught CES was faster because they said iqas had backlog but now I have notice people get theirs even within 8weeks why others are unlucky...

Therefore with the situation of what I have assessed so far I advice you go for iqas..

I have a pending application with CES but I want to start iqas now because I believe I might be faster.

How did you forward your transcript(s) from Nigeria to CES?

Best you can hope for is for the application to read Bachelor of Laws. That way you can still claim points for professional Degree.

Could you please share a link where NCA says CES and ices should stop issuing first professional degree to LLBs?

Hahaha at these two statements. We are still learned and like wahala but money no dey oh. You don see wetin COVID don do to the world and Nigerians in particular? Hiring Lawyer to do Judicial review dey expensive but you're right. I'm surprised no Lawyer has taken up this issue. You are also right that the VOs should be bound to the requirements stated on their website.
On the Canada Immigrant forum, some applicants successfully used their WES assessment (LLB is equivalent to a 4 years Bachelor degree) by writing an LOE stating what the website says about Law degrees but the successful results are few and far between. It's mostly rejections I've seen.
It's just better for Lawyers to use iqas to avoid stories that touch. I hope a rejection case on this issue is judicially reviewed though. It's high time they're called out on this unfair assessment. Why state something and do the exact opposite? Ko make sense

Please can ices and icas give the same evaluation as iqas or isit strictly iqas for lawyers? Thanks.

Good morning house

Has anyone done evaluation with ices? How long did it take for them to evaluate your documents?

Their website shows 16 weeks which is approximately 4 months from now, and that’s a very long time because I want to be in the pool this year.

Still trying to process my transcript from my school.

Your feedback will be appreciated, thanks.
I saw a Blog post on people complaining about ices yesterday, some said they’ve been stuck since July and since time is of essence to you I think you should use WES because even iqas is beginning to get slow again since my transcript arrived their office I haven’t gotten acknowledgment that it has been received.

*You must plan to live outside Quebec

*Skilled Work Experience; You need to have at least one year continuous, full-time (at least 30 hours of paid work per week) or equivalent part-time work experience in an occupation that is NOC A, B or 0, in the past 10 years. Check the National Occupational Classification (NOC) HERE to learn the skill type of your work experience. You will NOT be eligible with an NOC skill level C or D job. Work experience while studying may count, read HERE for more details.

*Language: You must take approved language tests in English or French and get a minimum score of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 in all 4 abilities (writing, reading, listening and speaking), that's IELTS score of LRSW 6666. The test results are valid for two years.

*Education: You must complete a minimum of secondary (high school) school education to get points under education. The evaluation of your education is valid for 5 years.

*Proof of Funds (POF): You must show that you have enough money to settle in Canada. The amount of money you need depends on the the size of your family and changes every year. Check the current value HERE.

You must also score at least 67 points out of 100 under the selection factors to be eligible. Calculate your points using the six selection factors HERE.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ESTIMATE YOUR CRS SCORE

If you are eligible and you complete a profile with your information, you will placed in a “pool” and be ranked based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) Criteria.

Use the CRS tool to estimate your CRS score HERE.
Check the trend of CRS scores HERE.
Criteria for computing CRS points HERE. Study this to see the options for increasing your CRS.

----‐--------------------------------------------‐----------------------------
ENTERING THE POOL

Requirements for entering the pool:

*Language HERE: See the language equivalence tables (i.e. how your IELTS or TEF scores translate to CLB/NCLC) HERE.

You can take any of these approved language tests:
English

AND/OR
French
TEF Canada: Test d’évaluation de français.
TCF Canada: Test de connaissance du français.

*Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) HERE:
Complete an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) through one of the designated agencies. Applicants educated outside of Canada should have their certificates assessed to ensure that their foreign education is equivalent to Canadian education. Look HERE to understand your report and the the points you can get from your evaluation. You should ONLY evaluate your highest degree e.g. PhD or MSc unless you are claiming two degrees, none of which is a PhD or MSc.

Designated Organisations see HERE
1.Education Service – University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies (CES)
2.International Credential Assessment Service of Canada (ICAS)
3.World Education Services (WES)
4.International Qualifications Assessment Service (iqas)
5.International Credential Evaluation Service (ices)

Designated Professional Bodies
Physicians (NOC 3111 or NOC 3112): If your primary occupation is specialist physician (NOC 3111) or general practitioner/family physician (NOC 3112), the Medical Council of Canada MUST do an ECA for your primary medical diploma.
Pharmacists (NOC 3131): If you need a license to practice, the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada must do your assessment.

You can ONLY create your profile when you have your language results and ECA, start HERE

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
INVITATION TO APPLY (ITA)

Express Entry draws are conducted at regular intervals (usually fortnightly, on Wednesdays). In these draws, candidates above a certain CRS score are invited to apply (the ITA) for permanent residence. For candidates with exactly the same score as the draw CRS, the tie break rule will apply, read up on this and see an example HERE

You can apply for permanent residence when you get an Invitation to Apply (ITA). You have 60 days to submit an application. There are currently COVID exceptions to this, read HERE.

If you do not get an ITA, you can stay in the pool for up to 12 months as long as you meet the criteria for one of the federal programs. You should update your profile with changes e.g. new language results, additional degree assessment, marriage etc. If you are not invited to apply within 12 months of submitting an Express Entry profile, your profile will expire. You can open a new profile. If you still meet the criteria, you will re-enter the pool.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION (eAPR)

After you get an Invitation to Apply (ITA), please see the checklist HERE of documents to be submitted. Some requirements include:

- Passport: See how to get or renew a Nigerian passport DIY with Servicom HERE

- Application Fees: See how much your application will cost HERE

- Proof of Funds (POF): You must show that you have enough money to settle in Canada. This money can't be borrowed. If your spouse is coming with you, you can count money you have together in a joint account. The amount of money you need to support your family depends on the size of your family which includes: yourself, your spouse/partner, your dependent children (read an adoption PPR story HERE) and your spouse’s dependent children. Funds must be readily available, you cannot use equity or real property. Read more about POF HERE.

Everything you need to know about Gift Deeds HERE.

- Medicals: You and your dependents (whether accompanying or not) MUST undergo a medical test conducted by a doctor on the list of IRCC designated panel physicians.

Read more about medicals HERE.
Read about medical inadmissibility HERE.

- Police Clearance Certificates (PCC): Police certificates are mandatory for each country (except Canada) where an individual has spent six months or more in a row within the last 10 years, since the age of 18. They are required for the Principal Applicant, spouse and dependent children 18 years of age or older (including non-accompanying).

For the applicant’s current country of residence, the police certificate must have been issued no more than six months before the submission of the e-APR. For countries in which the applicant no longer resides, the police certificate must have been issued after the last time the applicant lived in that country. Read more about police certificates HERE. Ensure you carefully check the IRCC requirement for the country you are getting a PCC for, as some also require additional docs like a driving licence. Scan your PCC in colour NOT black & white.

- Biometrics : You should schedule an appointment online with your closest Visa Application Center (VAC). There are two VACs in Nigeria - Abuja and Lagos. Read more about biometrics HERE.

-Work Experience Reference Letter: ensure that the job description on your reference letter matches (1) the lead statement, (2) all the essential duties and (3) most of the main duties listed on your chosen NOC. More about NOC HERE. Read a strategy for getting your reference letter HERE. **NOC mismatch is one of the most common reasons for rejected FSW applications.**

It is your job DESCRIPTION (i.e. the tasks you performed) that matters NOT your job TITLE.

Find a step by step post ITA guide HERE.

Some applicants have been asked to attend interviews, see some sample questions HERE and HERE

Thank you for your feedback. However, the evaluation body is iqas. I saw that option whilst uploading my document, and they asked for a written statement to confirm that my school would send via email address provided.

If you have a link with your institution, u can verify from them if email option is feasible then get back to iqas, I didn't have to inform ices cos I could choose either of the two options.

Yeah, if the evaluation body is ices, they accept email delivery of transcript from the institution directly.
