PoliticsIbb Receives His National E-id Card by shevon(op): 12:05pm On Feb 05, 2015
Former president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, on the 20th January, 2015 was issued his National e-ID Card by the Director General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and his management team.
The Card issuance too place at his Minna uphill residence, Niger State.

Following the Card issuance the former president who was visibly impressed by the card and its applications, noted that the card will no doubt help improve the security initiatives by the present administration.

He also expressed satisfaction that the card was issued to him while he was alive and can still make use of its features, and called on every Nigeria to ensure that they enroll for the National Identification Number (NIN) so they will be eligible for the Card.

He said: “I am proud to have received the new National e-ID Card today. I am a proud Nigerian, and every Nigerian should make an extra effort to enrol and collect his own National Identity Card.
“Everyone should be proud of this type of project because it confirms you as a citizen. It is definitely something to be proud of. I am proud I have this one while I am still alive, please keep it up. And for those who have not succeeded in enrolling, try to make sure you do it fast.”

Earlier in his address, the DG of NIMC said the Commission has entered the distribution stage and noted that about six million cards are ready for distribution.
He said: “We have started distribution of the cards to Nigerians nationwide. We started with Abuja, Lagos and Rivers States. Other state offices are ready for deployment and will start issuance soon.
He added that all Nigerians that have enrolled will get their cards before April.

He said: to avoid crowding the centres, NIMC will send an SMS to all enrollees whose cards are ready. Whoever receives such an SMS, should go to where he or she registered to collect his card.

FamilyRe: Husbands, Can You Survive A Week Without Your Wife? by shevon: 4:08pm On Jan 31, 2015
^^My brother, it goes beyond the house chores. What about the companionship?
I barely survived it the last time my wife traveled for 3 weeks. Those were the three roughest weeks in my life. It was so bad that people that I don't speak with in the office were forced to come and ask me "Hope there is no problem"
The truth be told, any man can stay without their wife for a period if only they will live long enough to tell the story.
But same can not be said for guys that have extracurricular activities with the reserve side chick's. Those ones can even survive a lifetime without their wives.

Is this what politics has turned our system into?
We seriously have a long way to go in this country, what with all these destruction and killing all in the name of politics, where most of the people the whole situation affect negatively are people who have absolutely nothing at stake.

I honestly don't know why I can't give my wife (or partner as you put it) my phone to go through, except if I am hiding something wink
Just last week, we were at a meeting and the discussion about if we (the staffers) have friends in the office and how we can build team spirit and business retreat topic was brought up. Because the issue off cost associated with retreat was mentioned, I made inference to a dinner one of our colleagues took us to and the consequent effect and that my wife feels comfortable to pick my official calls as long as she saw that colleague's name who took us out and ALL the men and 80% of the women in the meeting look at me with shock. My oga even told me in the presence of everyone that I was bold to allow my wife near my phone and I am like "What's the big deal?"
As long as I have nothing to hide, she can browse my phone all she wants.

PoliticsSaudi King Abdullah Dies, New Ruler Is Salman by shevon(op): 1:35am On Jan 23, 2015
Source: http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/saudi-king-abdullah-dies-new-ruler-is-salman/ar-AA8uraA?ocid=mailsignout

RIYADH, Jan 23 (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah died early on Friday and his brother Salman became king, the royal court in the world's top oil exporter and birthplace of Islam said in a statement carried by state television.

King Salman has named his half-brother Muqrin as his crown prince and heir.

"His Highness Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and all members of the family and the nation mourn the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, who passed away at exactly 1 a.m. this morning," said the statement.

Abdullah, thought to have been born in 1923, had ruled Saudi Arabia as king since 2006, but had run the country as de facto regent for a decade before that after his predecessor King Fahd suffered a debilitating stroke.

At stake with the appointment of Salman as king is the future direction of the United States' most important Arab ally and self-appointed champion of Sunni Islam at a moment of unprecedented turmoil across the Middle East.

Abdullah played a guiding role in Saudi Arabia's support for Egypt's government after the military intervened in 2012, and drove his country's support for Syria's rebellion against President Bashar al-Assad.

King Salman, thought to be 79, has been crown prince and defence minister since 2012. He was governor of Riyadh province for five decades before that.

By immediately appointing Muqrin as his heir, subject to the approval of a family Allegiance Council, Salman has moved to avert widespread speculation about the immediate path of the royal succession in the world's top oil exporter.

LONG TERM CHALLENGES

Abdullah pushed cautious changes in the conservative Islamic kingdom including increased women's rights and economic deregulation, but made no moves towards democracy and was a hawk on policy towards rival Iran.

King Salman has been part of the ruling clique of princes for decades and is thought likely to continue the main thrusts of Saudi strategic policy, including maintaining the alliance with the United States and working towards energy market stability.

During his five decades as Riyadh governor he was reputedly adept at managing the delicate balance of clerical, tribal and princely interests that determine Saudi policy, while maintaining good relations with the West.

In the long term Saudi rulers have to manage the needs of a rapidly growing population plagued by structural unemployment, and an economy that remains overly dependent on oil revenue and undermined by lavish subsidies.

Saudi Arabia, which holds more than a fifth of the world's crude oil, also exerts some influence over the world's 1.6 billion Muslims through its guardianship of Mecca and Medina, Islam's holiest sites.

Most senior members of the ruling al-Saud family are thought to favour similar positions on foreign and energy policy, but incoming kings have traditionally chosen to appoint new ministers to head top ministries like oil and finance.

In a country where the big ministries are dominated by royals, successive kings have kept the oil portfolio reserved for commoners and insisted on maintaining substantial spare output capacity to help reduce market volatility.

There is no biggie helping out with house chores.
For example my wife has chose to stay home since the baby came and I don't think it is fair for her to be the one taking care of the baby and the house, so I got her a house help. But every weekend, I insist on cooking for the house and cleaning the kitchen cos I feel they do it all week long and I'm not always comfortable playing 'boss' when I'm at home and others are working. In fact this week, our help was ill and my wife cleans the house during the day and when I return home, I make dinner and clean the kitchen before I sleep for 3 days.
Ko si big deal n'be.

PoliticsRe: Nigeria's Current Petrol Pump Price Better Than That Of The USA by shevon:
bishopclin:
I saw various posts on the social media, criticising federal government's reduction of or Petrol) pump price from N97 to N87. More worrisome is the fact that some of our youths join the bandwagon in the criticism.
surround r why we have some youths of our country who can not make use of their brains to ponder on issues that would further enrich the country. Present day youths are being tossed around by the older ones and sometimes, by illiterates. ‎

Drivers paid an average of $2.2021 a gallon for regular gasoline at U.S. pumps of recent in the US (do some ‎confirmation) 1US gallon = 3.7854ltrs‎ ‎$2.2021 = N398.58 (@ exchange rate of N181/$) Therefore, 1gallon = N398.58 ÷ ‎3.7854ltrs = N105.29/ltr in the US

Meanwhile, in Nigeria, after taking into consideration, landing costs and other expenses, it is N85/ltr for the same litre of gasoline yet people are ignorantly ranting on social media and elsewhere. Between Nigeria and the US, which is better? What has happened to some present day youths in my dear country, Nigeria‎? Mr. President, Goodluck Jonathan has indeed shown that he has the interest of Nigerians at heart.‎
Young man stop being miopic. The issue of pump price being too high did not start with Jonathan's administration and I know it will stop someday when we have someone who is willing to use his interlectual acumen garnered from his PHD or from those who he chooses to surround himself with (for those who have no certificate).
You are of the opinion that the pump price in the USA is higher than that of Nigeria, while Nigeria is ranked 5th in Oil Producing and Exporting Countries (with the USA being our one time biggest CUSTOMER) where does the USA rank in OPEC? So you expect pump price to be at par or higher between a manufacturing/exporting county and its customer?
What is the PMS pump price in other OPEC states ranking below Nigeria?
If you are not being tossed arround by illitrates you would have been more on the side of 'lets start building up our refining capabilities with the aim of stopping importation to reduce pump price' instead of tactically campainging for a someone who used 6years to allow a field day for currupt minds to run his show and now need another 4 to consolidate it under the guise of tackling curruption.

TravelRe: The Humans Of Lagos (Street Photography Project) by shevon:
TochiPhotos:
I just walk up to them, tell them about the humans of Lagos and what it's all about if I get lucky, I'll get the chance to discuss with the person and I usually start from something that is not personal and as the person gets comfortable enough, they start opening up and I've come to realize most people are always willing to talk just that no one cares enough to ask them.
That aside, it hasn't been an easy ride to be honest, I've had so many challenges, from been nervous to approach people to getting shut down by people I approach some rude and some wouldn't even care to let me finish explaining to them at some point I've felt like abandoning it, The first day was the most challenging. That morning I walked over 18KM without getting a single person to talk to, I walked hopelessly from Orile to Bode Thomas to Ojuelegba then Yaba and finally Akoka, I was afraid to approach people and when I did my nervousness would show and I think that made them uncomfortable too. I was dejected and had made up my mind to give up and was going to get soft drinks and start going home when I met the first person I talked to, Mr C. along Unilag faculty of SS, I said hi, introduced myself and told him about the project and he agreed and we got talking and before I knew it, I had spent more than 20 mins talking to this stranger who I just met and believe me anyone who saw us would think we've known each other for years, we were just talking about random things, football etc and one thing led to another and we got into personal things and he told me about how his Aunty had brought him to Lagos and put him on the street instead of sending him to uni as she promised his parents etc I spent more than 30 mins with him and that was my first post. Talking to him made me forget all the past rejections made me believe I could actually do it and motivated me to continue I think that was the turning point. I still get nervous but I've come to understand that not everyone will say yes or willing to let a stranger into their personal life and I've come to make peace with that so when people tell me no I don't let it weigh me down I just think about the amazing people that have said yes and the people they've motivated and that keeps me going.
Yesterday I met one of the most interesting people I've been blessed to talk to in this project, Ahmed the sponge seller, I met Ahmed sitting on bench facing the lagoon in cms and I walked up to him and told him about the project, and he agreed to talk to me What got my attention was how he was knitting the sponge, I always thought they bought it like that so that was how we started our talk and he told how he had escaped boko haram, at a point he was close to tears, telling me about his friends that might have been killed he kept praising God for saving him and blessing him with this new life, it was an emotional encounter. He told me about his plans for the future and how he plans to expand his business, he really loves the business. The hour I spent talking to Ahmed has been one of the best things that has happened to me, it was so inspiring. Sometimes when I feel like giving up, I think about Ahmed's story and the rest of them and realize there are many more people out there with stories that will inspire thousands and that's what keeps me going. So Uj, that's how I get them to talk to me about their lives, you see? you asked me a "simple questions and see what it has led to, that's basically how it happens outside there, most of those people I talked to, I think that's the first time someone has taken time to ask them something like that just as you've been the first person to take time and ask how I get the stories. People are willing to share but no one cares enough to ask or listen Thanks Uj, I'm really glad you asked. About the Camera its a mid-range(prosumer) camera you could get body only around 60k I guess but it jumps to 6 figures with the lens. Please do follow on instagram http://instagram.com/thehumansoflagos and facebook https://www.facebook.com/humansoflagosng tag your friends and repost and help us build this community biko and also tag your Nl buddies who might find this thread interesting and if you or anyone have ideas on how to improves and make this project better please send an email to thehumansoflagos@gmail.com or pm here.... thanks and do have a great week.
My dear, people are afraid to stop and talk to strangers in Lagos for so many reasons. I grew up in Lagos and the impression the 'Streets' gave to me is that if you talk to a stranger, there is every possibility you might loose something (from your senses, to you private part to your life)
I feel your pain of rejection, especially when your intentions are pure. The fact still remains that it is Lagos, everybody is trying to be careful.
For you to have had the opportunity to talk to this much people, I envy you and salute your courage for this project.
Every time I get depressed, I always go to your page to read some of the stories, it never fails to give me hope that there is still hope for a better tomorrow in this country.
Keep it up.

FamilyRe: Domestic Benefits Of The Dry Season (harmattan) by shevon: 11:00pm On Jan 10, 2015
Abeg correct the bold entry before I vex angry
chocolateme:
Harmattan comes with both positive and negative effects on us and I want to list out few of its positive effects on us domestically:
Do you know that;
1: it helps our foods to stay longer without getting spoilt even if its not refrigerated or warmed, even if someone steals meat from the soup pot by dipping fingers inside the soup pot.
2: it aids in drying up our clothes minutes after washing them, u will still be washing and most of the first set you washed are already dried out.
3: it seems to avert mosquito bites, not so sure of that but noticed it for myself.
4: we don't usually sweat much during dry season, the sun will be up and the weather would be dry and harsh but we don't sweat.
5: our rest rooms are always dry and free from odors especially in areas where you find pit lavatories, public fast food joints rest rooms, church rest rooms etc. So is also the street gutter and roads with plenty pot holes because everywhere is dry.
6: it's a good weather for drying our foodstuffs, the likes of egwusi, Ogbonna, garri, achicha( Enugu state local food) and so many other kinds of cereals and foods. It also helps for food preservation.
7: if you enjoy bathing hot water, now here is a good weather for it but I will not be responsible for the whoosh of cold breeze that will disorient you immediately you come out from the bathroom, best advice, bath cold water during harmattan.
You can add your own observations too.
