my flight is Tmrw and I wanna change the naira I gt to Canadian dollars, but I can't seems to get canadian dollars. someone now said I shuld change it to US dollars instead, and I need to pay for accomodation from the money immediatly I landed. pls what shuld I do? and where can I get canadian dollar.

Bro take the us dollars , don't think you can get Canadian dollars here and just so you know right now 1 us dollar is about 1.04 cad so if you change let's say 5000 dollars you'll get like 5200 cad .. Just don't change at the airport , go to any bank . Safe trip

What's happening here people ? Just a couple of days ago spirits were high and everyone was celebrating medicals / trv or making travel arrangements. Please let's Bury any hatchet . In My opinion chrigo is doing A good job , he tries to ease up the atmosphere and reduce tension, though you could reduce the smileys a bit bro .

laureek: Good morning people.hope the weekend was great.Thank God for a new week.i've got few questions
1.for the experienced people here, pls how does one keep money as it is not safe to carry a huge some from here.plus i know there are some banks ere that u can withdraw frm anywhere in the world but dont if they have daily limits as to what one can withdraw.

2. For those that applied for a pgd,and have gotten a visa, how many years were they given? Single or multiple entry. Incase one wants to come back during xmas or any holiday.is it advisable?

3.which airlines are okay and the routes. The one that i wont have to stay in transit for 10hrs.i get easily bored for africa and definitely wont enjoy it

4.any ottawarians in d house? Looking for accomodation. Suggestions pls

Meanwhile i havent gotten my trv.just preparing ahead.
Applied May 22nd
Medicals July 24th
Resmption date Sept 3rd

Good news is our portion this week.Amen

Question 2. You're usually given multiple entry (I'm not a pgd student but from what I've witnessed in the last year ) as long as you're given multiple and its still valid as at Christmas you can come back to nigeria

Question 3. Emirates has a short transit time , if you take the night flight from lagos , klm and lufthansa All have transit times less than 6hrs , air france is about. If you don't mind the 14hr flight from dubai to toronto emirates is the best and usually the cheapest. If you don't want that , use any of the European airlines except British ones as you May need transit visa .

Chatters:

The ones you saw are on the high side because this is peak period. Yes flights can get as low as 170k during off peak and even lower. Pls don't waste your money looking for 410k flights. You can put that moni to better use. For me it better to enter a kabu kabu flight and save a whopping 250k than enter a classy flight that will finish my hard earned cash. Just my 50 kobo anyway. One luv.

170k even off peak is a tight squeeze .. Maybe 200k is more realistic off peak , but now is peak season so its much more .. sometimes spending a little more for better comfort over such distance is worth it so you don't have to spend a week+ recuperating .

i was just doimg the sam thing dis morning. tryna get a ticket and dey r all on the high side. but after digging deep i found dis travelwebsite that av tickets 4 as low as 170k...........http://www.travelstart.com.ng/.. wonder why travel agents av cheap flights compared to the airline itself?

I'd advice you look carefully , lagos to Toronto in Aug at 170 k is impossible if you ask me .. Most economy tickets I saw were like 3000 and business was about 6- 7000 dollars ,, then again you might just be lucky ..
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 4 by SirP1: 3:48am On Aug 17, 2013
Folks who have gotten their trv and even those who have gotten medicals start addressing the issue of flight ticket , the few available tickets are very expensive , I've been around since early June but chose to leave my ticket purchase back to ca late as I felt business class seats aren't pressurised , I was wrong ,ended up paying more than I would have if I had bought earlier so guys act fast ! May God grant our heart desires

Flynbird , seems they've boxed you in a corner , silly people . In the airline industry such things happen , even dealing with the airline directly sometimes has issues . But the bad thing is them not communicating , does it mean if you didn't call they'll keep mute , poor service . A decent travel agent / airline should call / send an email right away
Travel / Re: Wakanow Nig LTD Shabby Service. by SirP1: 2:01pm On Aug 15, 2013
flynbird: WAKANOW.COM IS NOTHING BUT SCAM!!!!. i just had to buy credit on my phone now and gave them a lengthy call, and guess what? they told me my booking has been cancelled and i should pay an extra 39,000 to get another date. They said my booking was unattended to and that its either i pay the 39,000 or i'm left with other airline options of 400,000 upwards.
Now what excuse does Wakanow have for a customer who made a flight booking on Monday and made the payments on Monday and immediately i left the bank i called them and the agent confirmed the payment all on the same day. Now i heard nothing from them after 3days and then they tell me my booking was cancelled for no reason and i am to pay an extra 39,000........
WAKANOW.COM IS NOTHING BUT A SCAM SITE/COMPANY!!!.... Whoever has dealt with them before is lucky he/she got what he/she wanted but pls and pls dont use them again.. i repeat DONT use them again!!!!

Just as I suspected, sorry ms . Are you gonna go ahead and pay the 39k ?
Travel / Re: Wakanow Nig LTD Shabby Service. by SirP1: 10:18am On Aug 15, 2013
flynbird: I wish I never used their service. I've wasted my credit calling them. I've re-sent emails countless times but they have not replied me. One of their agent said she will call me back but up till now she hasn't. Another agent dropped my call after I had spent 20minutes and wasted my airtime. I just wished I never used them sad

Go to their office and complain . I suspect a change in fare might have occurred and they'll demand you pay extra for the new fare , they're fond of doing that . I've never trusted them cos they eventually give the tickets to those that pay , but they're shady
Travel / Re: Wakanow Nig LTD Shabby Service. by SirP1: 8:40pm On Aug 14, 2013
flynbird: JUST WISE PLEASE HELP!!! Is wakanow.com scam? I paid for a flight on monday and called them. They said they were going to contact me but till today I have had no call from them. Does it take them this long to respond or are they scam?

I know you directed this to justwise but I just wanna contribute , I don't think they are because members of nl claimed to have used them before . Now regarding your reservation , I'm not sure how waka now operates but normally when you book , there is a booking reference no , when you enter this no and usually your surname on the airlines website you can see the booking , bookings expire in 48 - 72 hours so if you have the booking code from when you booked and try to enter it on the airlines website you should be able to see the status of the booking .. This may not work though if waka now has their own booking code they give seperate from the airline's . My two cents .. What airline is it btw ?

Thanks a lot. Btw which one is koodo ati wind again.

They are networks , you can check their websites and see the plans they have , wind is very very cheap but service is limited , koodo has better service but is more expensive . Really you can choose any network you want but stay away from Rogers cos they are rip offs unless you don't mind the Money

dotman: Good day all,

Please i have a question for the current canny peeps. With respect to phone lines. Which is better for international student, pre paid or contract phone. Also, is it better to buy phone naija or until i get to canny. which is cheaper.

Many thanks.

Stay away from contract if you can , the best is to buy an unlocked phone here and buy a prepaid Sim e.g koodo / wind and use . If you decide to buy contract phones you might be slammed outrageous bills and to opt out becomes a problem . Stay away from Rogers

@Sir P yeah but even at that, you do not need a transit. I have done Niaja-to-Toronto before via Frankfurt and it was a Lufthansa/Air Canada combo, no transit visa was required. I have also done Niaja-to-Toronto via Paris, Airfrance, no transit v was required as well, so I believe Galala also.
I would recommend a return booking since it is sometimes cheaper or close to the price of a one-way. You could select your next summer break period as the return in-case you are unsure.

Okay that clears that I wasn't too sure of the lufthansa / air Canada arrangement since I haven't tried it and I wouldn't wanna mislead anyone . I assume you had your bags checked in all the way to t.o ?

galala123:

if flying lufthansa via Germany, Emirates via Dubai, Etihad via Abu Dhabi, Air France via Paris, KLM via Amsterdam you dont need a transit visa coz you are only transiting through the hubs of the various airlines and it is more economically convinient for them to re arrange their passengers to connect to their final destination. They already have an MOU with their host government. For British Airways and Airlines such as American Airlines, Delta, US airways you need a transit visa to pass through their hub as they want to pre authorise whoever is going through their country and do adequate security checks well in advance.

With respect to one way tickets, I have had to buy a return ticket from a foreign country though I was not planning to go back coz it was cheaper than a one way ticket to Nigeria. You can never tell with tickets as they change by the minute via complex intrigues employed by the airline operators dats why you may buy your ticket twice the price or half of the price of the passenger seated next to you. Competition plays an important role in the price mechanism. Funny enough, I was once given quote of over £600 to change the return leg of my BA ticket at Heathrow and the same lady at the counter gave me an option of buying a return ticket (lhr-abv-lhr) for about £500!
I called their online customer line and was able to change it for about £200 as it wasmidsummer with flighta fully booked

Well said boss ,,

ChriGo: aiit boss tanx 4 the info.....experience is the best teacher grin

No p , another thing is if you're not using lufthansa for the entire journey , say you're flying lagos frankfurt on lufthansa but frankfurt toronto on air canada you might need a transit visa especially if you have to re check your bags in , I'm not sure though since I used lufthansa all the way to T.O . But like I said earlier I'm sure if you're using lufthansa all through you're fine

ChriGo: hmmm!!! Sir, are u saying naija is part of the visa free country that can transit tru germany without a transit visa

Yes . As long as you're not leaving the terminal . I've used lufthansa before so I'm sure of what I'm saying .

all this transit thing dey confuse me o abeg..I booked egyptair to Canada, and I will have a 5hr stopover in Egypt. pls will I need a transit visa for Egypt, cos me I no understand dis transit dis transit that o embarassed . pls will I need?

No you don't . To the best of my knowledge as long as you have an onward ticket to your final destination within 24hrs and won't leave the terminal you don't need a transit visa except you're going through the us , so you're ok

adewaleafolabi: Also just a quick info as regards travel tickets am i to purchase a one way or round trip ticket? If a round trip ticket how many days interval should i specify? Thanks

I'll suggest round ticket , from my experience its cheaper Than one way , use a one year interval ( in most cases that's the max ). Also , if you're transiting through frankfurt on lufthansa you DON'T need a transit visa

please i want to know if i would be needing a TRANSIT VISA for d journey? specifically if i would be needing USA transit VISA.

THANK YOU

Bro change your booking to lagos - dxb - toronto then use a domestic flight to calgary , you definitely need entry / transit visa to pass through the us .

please anyone heading to canada this fall that gotten moderate price flight ticket should notify me. the prices i am seeing on wakanow is freaking expensive.I am looking at about two hundred and something or three.
To all the medical and TRV awaitees, you will surely get there.

To be honest bro , that's about as good as its gonna get , infact some airlines are sold out of economy seats for august eg emirates , so if you'll buy , buy fast . And also guys if you're looking for seats don't focus only on economy , sometimes there are promo sales on business class seats and you'd be surprised the difference in price between business and economy aint that much .

In regards my tuition which was the whole wahal.... For real i hand not even gotten the payment receipt from my uncle before TRV mail came in yesterday ooo... Allah shows His greatness every time... Na thicket things o... Thinking of KLM... Any better choice please?

I'm assuming you are asking if there is a better choice in terms of ticket price and not airline quality , you can use wakanow , kayak or skyscanner to compare prices . Klm , lufthansa and air France have similar prices , so the choice is yours .. Congrats on your trv
