I am not talking about UK immigration official. I am asking if she can apply for US visa from the UK as a visitor.
Answer is the same No.
Your mum is resident in Nigeria
She's a visitor in the UK
Her ties are to Nigeria not to the UK
If she was on another visa say dependent or study or work permit then she would have ties to the Uk

I'm about applying for my CAS at the school and I need a lil clarification

I have gotten the following

1. Official receipt of payment confirmation by the school
2. A filled up application form for my CAS
3. Bank statement of myself and my parent
One statement each

Is this enough to apply for my CAS?

Thank you
CAS comes from your school. It's your school that will say what's required for getting CAS

Hello everyone,

Thanks to everyone who has been contributing as i gained alot from reading through.

I got admitted into Rutgers, got my 1-20, filled my DS 160 along with my spouse who is applying for an F2 visa as my dependent.

Please i heard scheduling the interview at Abuja is better than Lagos. I really want to know how true this is. I have been to the States a couple of time with my B1 visa but my spouse has no travel history.

I also need mock questions for both F1 and F2. I am still waiting approval to get a date.

I will appreciate any guidance.
Thanks alot everyone
You can read through last 20pages you should find ppl who shared their interview experience. You get questions from there

Thank you.

Please guys, in the event she doesn't know the fathers date of birth as he passed away when she was still a child and her mum also says she doesn't remember but gave an estimate. How can i fill her fathers date of birth without it being a misrepresentation? I explained this in the space for notes at the end of the application.

Also, please can anyone help with the church recommendation/attestation letter template.

Thank you.
Use additional information part of the application and explain you guessed the age because you're are not sure
Are you the one filling for her as a representative or you're just filling the form and she's still the person acknowledging that the form was filled by her.
The reason I asked this is that in the additional information section if you are filling that part as a representative it would read..grandpas date of birth details are an estimate because mum does not know the exact date.
That's different from writing I am not sure of my father's exact date of birth the details filled are an estimate.
Let her print out form for reference in the future.

General advice

Filing costs money o, getting DQ has a cost element o

If you can save in dollars in Nigeria do so

Ensure you have your birth certificates plus that of your kids.
Keep photos over the years of your family and of the petitioner

Get your original school certificates including post secondary. You might need them to evaluate certs

You might need cosponsor especially if you're F3 or F4. Your petitioner is the primary sponsor but if their income threshold is not enough to cover you and your family then you need a cosponsor. Preferably one who has not sponsored anyone else .
You can have multiple cosponsors but they all must fill the appropriate form and share their tax returns abi na W2.

Lastly pray for the good health and well-being of your petitioner. E get why

I am really happy the forum has been active. I have another question my oldest child and my middle son application where filed separately and we had my youngest recently. And she is yet to be featured on the application. Should I wait till others are approved or I should fill a separate form i-130.

I was once F4. I understand the pain in waiting. We should have all moved together but it's a long story.
I would just file, it would be approved anyways

Priority date, approval date or whatever you call it. My priority date is Jan 2013. Anyway, whatever works for you is fine.
Actually you are both right, it can up to 20years it can be far less.

The bulletin moves based .on different factors
There was a period for my case I thing 2017 where it literally moved 2-3months for that fiscal year. I was literally prepping to leave in 2018 . Then it slowed down to 2-4weeks movement. I left the matter
2019 randomly checked and I wasn't ready. I got the mail to prep docs, I even delayed like 3months cos I wasn't interested again. I had to talk to people to get advice.

But I remember one poster here Winneysometthing. Her case is long, she eventually ended up on F3. As at the time my F1 was up to submit docs...like a miracle her category jumped months in the bulletin and she was interviewed and by Aug or so of 2019 family was in the US. Just like that someone who thought she had one year plus to wait was done.
Whilst I who had more likelihood to leave before her as F1 didn't go till 2021 cos I got caught in COVID plus two Trump EOs.

Keep this process as backup option
Live your life
Check in once in awhile to know what's happening.
And once your case is up move and prep fast.

It's a journey not a destination.

All the best to everyone

Thanks for your response.
I previously applied for a Canadian visa where I included my husband in the application that's one. We haven't been DQd, priority date 2008. My fear is the Canadian visa application I did that would reflect my hubby's details. To start filing the divorce process takes time and we have less than a year to submit documents to be DQd. My passport has been changed to hubby's name thinking of changing back to my maiden name but the process is slow with immigration.
Have done change of name on nin but still waiting for the previous passport in my husband's name to come out since April.
If your PD is 2008 then if you are F3 ie married daughter the current Oct bulletin has that as Mar09
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/legal/visa-law0/visa-bulletin/2024/visa-bulletin-for-october-2023.html
You should have received email to submit your documents for NVC processing since.. That means you shouldn't have any problem with your married status

Do you receive emails / mails about your case or your petitioner does.?
There's a link to check the status of your case, I'll try to find it. You'll need your LGS**** number

Go to the living in the UK thread and ask there.
Then start your search at the gov,UK site , look for visas and follow the prompts for applying outside the uk.

So what advantage is cancelling.

Withdrawing pre submission or biometrics is when you can get visa fees back

Yes, you can use WES. I am trying to do that now... most jobs may require your foreign credential evaluation. I just got a job with an NGO under the State's Department of Health as Evaluation Specialist. I am surprised they did not ask about my credentials though.
I think it's typically state and federal jobs that ask for cert evaluation. Then healthcare related jobs like nursing.

Hello `@dduchess90 and others.

Please I need a little advice on what to do.

school has given till 9th October (next Monday) as final date for enrolment. The clearly stated that there will be no extension.

I have called, I have escalated by mail etc. Nothing positive yet.

Please what do I do?

Do i cancel and withdraw the application?

If I dont cancel, (and visa comes out but I am unable to travel) will I still be able to get a refund of IHS and Application fee? (because as it is, it is very very unlikely that I will make it).

Please advice
Nothing is unlikely. You wait it out, no point in pulling out anyways.

That will hardly stop the abuse of COS.
I doubt the abuse of COS is their primary concern. People are willingly paying to get COS . Most of that cash paid isn't traceable to the specific care agency. Ppl probably paid middlemen and likely they paid the naira equivalent .

It's the optics of reducing net migration, as well as the news coverage of people with families stranded in the UK.selling ALL their properties move to the UK. That doesn't help the politics of the party next year.

if they were truly invested in stopping the abuse of COS care jobs they would do more than just remove COS license (which doesn't stop the care agency from operating).
They won't cancel that category either not whilst NHS gan has shortage.

Braverman Is ready a dreamer, fewer qualification? Is that the almighty changes they are talking about? I guess more measures will be added.
From the paragraph shared , seems they are targeting health and care visas that don't have prerequisite qualifications. i.e care assistant jobs. Limiting those to no dependents allowed leaves them for single ppl, students in the UK and excludes migrant families. That answers to the political posture of reducing legal migration numbers.

If your brother applied last year, add another 19 years wait. Imagine adding 19 years to your age. If you're ambitious and focused, you'd have achieved so much by then.

My wife and kids used to go to the US for holidays, however, since I added them to my application, they've been refused a B1/B2 visa. I don't know if it's because they now have a pending immigration filing. Some people say it doesn't matter if you've been filed for that you can still visit but I seriously doubt that, the American's are not stupid. You could easily travel and go and wait out the process in the US.

Sometimes it looks like this thing has become a hindrance, as my family and I can't visit the US. We've had to try other places for family visit. That is the 'curse' of an immigrant visa application for me.
I got us visa multiple times during the wait.
Was your family refused just once?
Did you indicate that you've been filed for? There's usually a place where it asks if anyone filed immigrant visa for you..the answer should be filled yes. Visit visa application is based on showing you don't have immigrant intent that's what you focus on showing home ties here in Nigeria. Travel during vacation or school holiday time and do short trips 2+3weeks.

Wait out in the US for what? The wait is already 10years plus na , you can not work legally , no ssn , no state tuition etc.so staying adds no advantage to you if you're already on a 6 -18 yr wait.

Exceptions are like spouse or minor children category because they can easily move to IR which has no cap

It is 10% chance of getting a non-immigrant visa when you have a pending migrant application. They believe you want to jump the line.
I think this has to be debunked.
There is no 10percent chance or anything like that.
I got multiple us visas whilst I waited. And others in travel section testified of the same.

You can't jump the line with visit visa F1 to F4 category, you will still go back to your country to do the consular processing. The years of waiting is already between 6-18yrs in our part of the world.

For those who are filing for spouses or minors in F category ..they already have the possibility of moving to IR anyways so coming in on a visit visa doesn't shorten your wait cos you will still do consular processing wait in the US and you can't work during that wait.

The OP case is spousal with kids under 10 , that's why I said they can apply to visit him. They have a young family so will they stay separated because their PD never reach.

That's fine , at least you know you have options.

They can still visit on visit visa as long as you time their trip for school vacation time . At least you get to see them whilst you wait this out.

And if you choose to do in the states processing when they come you can explore that. ( even better if your citizenship is quite close)

Apart from F1 and F2, the other category is a waste of time. My PD is Jan 2013, that's like 18 years wait as things currently are. I was unmarried and a young man when I was applied for, now I'm married with kids. Thankfully, I'm moved up in my career and life is pretty good. By the time the application becomes current, by God's grace, I'd have risen really high in my career and I don't see myself leaving to go and stay abroad.

The only thing is I'd like my kids to actually relocate but the issue is if I, the principal applicant can refuse to go while my dependents go? It will be crazy for me to relocate at my age and status in like 10 years from now.

My advice is for people to take this US immigrant visa thing with a pinch of salt and focus elsewhere. Forget it exist and just keep building yourself and if it happens along the way, fine. US immigration process is just crazy.

I agree...it's a long process and it's best you don't allow it to hold you back.

By the way even F1 and F2 can take 10yrs plus cos of a wide variety of issues . Mine took that long and then some.

When you get to Canada, get truck driving training and license.
No license or driving in Nigeria would be of any use there.
Just search online for truck driving and license requirements in the city you're relocating to. Or ask your spouse to do that.

I have tot of the Mexico or Canada being sis countries to the U.S but it seems like double cost. I will wait and see what the bulletin will show in the coming months.
You can also just apply for visit visa.
You don't lose anything..if you guys are married then seeing your spouse is a valid reason to travel.
Applying for a visit visa doesn't affect your immigrant visa application. Just prove you have sufficient home ties e.g. job etc.

I know people think they don't give to ppl with pending immigrant visas but that's not true.

Besides with the visa bulletin you may still have another year or so try it.

P.s I found this reddit page interesting- mirrors some of my sentiments on care jobs.
https://reddit.com/r/UKJobs/s/qAUr5e9reP

I'm keen to see how the care issue would be solved... no easy answers her. It's a sector largely contracted to private firms (that have to be efficient to survive) and has for a longtime been heavily reliant on foreign labour. The funding from the government has been constrained hence why they struggle to demand a reasonable minimum pay for the sector. Even the UKVI salary limit had to be reduced for carers.

With EU net migration becoming negative post brexit, the visa pathway became needed (not wanted). With masters students now being barred from bringing dependents in, there'd be more constraints. Also, that no one needs to have a prerequisite qualification and there being hundreds of such firms make it prone to abuse. Eventually, it'd have to be culled but lets hope its not another deja vu.
Internal students will take the roles since they need sponsorship to stay.

EU migrants who took these jobs in the past had access to public funds
So it's cheaper labor for the UK to use non EU
It's the quality of care to patients I'm concerned about. When more of those taking these jobs are doing it solely to survive

I feel coming in with visit visa which is just Six months visa is very short to compare the time it will take get job offer before the visa expire., that's why I think coming in through study route will give her more time and opportunity to get a better job as a Registered Nurse before the end of her one year study, which after then she switch to tier 2 in order to bring in her dependent. That is my idea. What do you think pls?
My response is based on cost.
Cos if she was able to get a job offer from Nigeria you wouldn't consider study route.

Lastly both of you should take a step back and reanalyze. No need for pressure cos stressing just makes things worse. Time is not running away. This is a journey..not a destination . All the best

The red list thing was for agents and not for those applying directly to NHS Trusts, your wife should not give up applying, your plan B is also another good option if the money is there, coming in as a student and write her OSEC that will increase her chances of getting employed.

Though bringing you over as her depedant will depend on the changes to Tier 2 visa to be announced before the end of the year.
So lets wait and see if the changes will include restriction on family bringing in their dependants on Tier 2 visa
I should think if she comes on a visit visa she can also the exam OSEC exam
That seems a lot less expensive

Would it be possible to extend his entry visa date. How do I go about it. Mother is already here with me but my dad cannot travel in the state he is right now cos he lost his ability to walk due to been in bed for too long. Any good advise will be much appreciated.
To the best of my knowledge no. You'd have to almost go through the process again

Sorry to intrude but does your father's current condition prevent him from flying?
Do medical personnel consider him stable to be to fly.

If he can use a wheelchair then a relative can travel with him. Or a registered nurse who knows his condition and can provide assistance during the flight and you pay their fare. The airline just needs to know you're taking someone like that. I know 2 instances and those were even visit visas as soon as father was deemed stable nurse flew with them and straight to hospital for checkup and they started the IR process from in the US.

Immigrant visa entry requirements are pretty strict.

If it's just that he can't walk on his own and everything else is fine then your mum can come back and bring him in.
Use direct flight to the US only though.
