What comprehensive study? You have not stated how this study was conducted, which regions they conducted them at, the children that made up the sample pot.

I had my own share of corporal punishments as a child and I turned out fine, many others who did will tell you same, nobody from any paediatric society ever took a sample from my neighborhood, so, which experiment did they do? Did they take a sample from Nigeria? Did they take a sample from Kenya, Jamaica, Granada?

What makes their experiment comprehensive? Because they tested 100-1000 out of over a billion people and came up with purported results?

If you know what comprehensive means, you won't be throwing the term about loosely. I did not say people should break their children's heads here, some of you assume the worst when corporal punishment is mentioned.

I doubt you have sufficient experience with children, else, you would not be telling me about some experiment by whoever.
Your baseless assumptions just made you sound ridiculous.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

And it is Grenada - a country, not Granada(which is a city In Spain) grin

Sweden is not Nigeria, different races, different genetic make ups, different diet, different climate, different culture.

Learn that you cannot use one society to explain another, just like you cannot use one form of discipline for all children, you need to consider various factors. You are committing a fallacy of generalization.
It seems like you are trying to bend me to your way of thinking which is impossible.

Secondly are you aware of the fact that many advanced countries have followed suit, as a matter of fact the smartest country in Africa - south Africa have also outlawed this archaic form of discipline in their schools

Please compare the way and manner our youth behave with their counterparts in these developed countries, the impact is clear to the blind.

Lastly, to the best of my knowledge there are lots of methods to discipline a naughty child, if so why are most Nigeria parents sticking to CP?

Studies have shown that children who had a violent and rough up-bringing not only turned out to be terrible adults but also to their future partners.

Of course, you can't go around flogging adults.

But children in their formative ages need to learn early enough that there are punitive measures for wrong behaviour. And these punitive measures do not exclude getting their asses severely whooped.

That's the point.
It seems you are suggesting corporal punishment is more effective than other forms of discipline.

Go to schools especially in Lagos State and see what not flogging have caused.
Go to schools in advanced countries like Sweden(Corporal punishment is outlawed and as such illegal) and see how surprisingly well mannerd this kids are.

Where did the kids inherit the gene of rascality if not from the parents.

The parents should first submit themselves for punishment for passing on the gene of rascality to their children.

Its a serious offense.

bro, I'm also currently a teacher. and I know what I'm saying. I'm not saying the canning should be too much but it should be moderated. it's when it's too much that the kid finally turns wayward. it's good to spank a kid once in a while when he misbehaves. these kids of nowadays even seem to be more wayward than us.
Don't you think engaging in reasonable discussions with the child will be more effective than spanking?

Assault is rather harsh a term.

I bet there are paediatrics who beat their kids. Many people sell products they don't use, comedians spread joy, but many of them are depressed, do what works for you, not what someone recommends based on a purported experiment with a tiny scope of people.

I wonder how many children and in which regions they must have done these tests to come to such conclusion.

I don't need any scientist to tells me what I see for myself. I see children, and I see how they react to flogging or scolding. I know which has lasting effects on which kids, I don't need anyone to tell me what I know and have established with my own years of experience
You mean a body of certified and well trained experts in pediatric who conducted a comprehensive study on corporal punishment a in your words " purported experiment with a tiny scope of people"?

At this point I will say no more.

I think the use of cane cannot be abolished at a whim. It is a cultural issue embedded in a life long tradition. It should be systemic and parents have a huge part to play.
It can be abolished bro.

Sweden was the first to country in the world to outlaw any form of Corporal punishment at home and school as illegal in the 70s. Defaulters are fined. And so far so good its been a Great game changer as it enhance parent-child relationship.

In the case of Nigeria , I think my Generation ( generation z) are less likely to flog a child and gradually future generation may see it as archaic and will completely choose to engage with the child rather than flog him.

Bro am a teacher so I know what exactly am talking about. A kid is like a Garden - you have to nurture it skillfully for it to flourish. Its quite saddening the kids in your life are wayward.

But I can tell with some high degree of certainty that I have come across a lot of lovely kids out there.

I've learnt that there is really no hard and fast rule with children

I recommend finding the perfect disciplinary method depending on the child. Some kids are receptive to scolding and some others require flogging. Find the disciplinary method perfect for the child, notice what works best for each child, just because they are all kids does not mean the same thing will work across board

So, yeah, depending on the kid, caning could work with some, others just a few words and for a select few, a combination of both. It's like people who prefer injection to pills and vice versa
Using your logic some people should be assaulted if they commit an offence, right?

Flogging, slapping, canning or any form of corporal punishment is according to pediatrics not only dangerous and traumatic but also has long term effects to the poor child. cry cry cry
[/s]]yes I believe flogging is a very effective way of discipline. it was so during the days of our fathers and mothers and they grew up to behave well. but this sets of kids will be very spoilt cos of lack of discipline[s][/s]
How about someone who's parent never laid a hand on him ( discipline him through engaging in discussions with him and other smart methods) and he later turned out to be a Great man in life?

Flogging is terrible parenting, in fact it should be an offence just like an assault.

This might sound old school, but those countries where they refuse to discipline their children are the same countries with high rate of homosexuality and lack of respect for their parents...

If you like don't beat your children when they are wrong. For me I'm following what the bible teaches about discipline; spare the rod, spoil the child.

It depends on what 30k means to the couple. 30k can be a enough for just airtime in a month and to some it can be enough for a them to live per month. Different strokes to different folks. If he can make do with it why not?

For example, earlier this year spent 27k on a meal for just myself in a Chinese restaurant (desert, appetizer and main meal). Some weeks later I ate 50 naira gala and 7up for a meal because I was broke ( didn't get the money I was expecting).....
At both instances I adjusted according to my pocket. When I had I ate a decent meal, when I didnt have I adjusted to eating gala and 7up. I can cope with any situation around. So the bachelor in question may be able to cope with his 30k.
was the eatery/restaurant in Nigeria? I mean where exactly is it located?

I have had such an ugly experience before, though it happened long time ago.

That's why shortage of information, ignorance and innocence can attimes work together. Inorder words, lack of adequate information which creates room for ignorance can make you get involved in a crime, even though you are innocent.

For you to know how ignorant I was then, I have had such experience before I started hearing the word"gay, homosexual".

The idiot would play all kinds of rough play with me only for him to open my shorts, trying to insert,an action I always turned down immediately. His sexual attempts on me was more than ten times. He would trickily invite me over to his house(I stopped going after two or three attempts) and less than twenty minutes,he's already trying to hump on me. The good news is that,he didn't succeed, and I later relocated to Lagos. He's the reason I dislike vikings till date (he became a member after I left. All my close pals are either Aye, Buccaneer, Eiye ), you cannot be a viking and survive around me. And, he's in Europe now,if not I would have brought back the issue, mess him up totally.

Although,it wasn't a total good news,as I had this girl who always wanted to do it with me by all means. Anyway, story for maybe next time.

The truth is, it's better to be defiled by the opposite sex than same sex. Sex with the opposite is a sin, with thesame,it's an abomination.

Warning: Never you trust your kids, brothers, sisters with anybody. Especially when you know they can hardly differentiate/discern between good and bad...

That's sad man... Nothing spoil, Track him right down to that fuuking place he reside and flush the piece of Garbage.(neutralize him)

Nothing melt my heart like seeing an adult exploiting an innocent child.

I have had an opportunity to talk with a South Korean returnee,

He said:
1. Factory works are abundantly available and pays well too (btw $1k and above for men and something similar for women)

2. Cost of living for a newbie might be high as you pay from 100k and above monthly for a bedroom apartment.

3. The food is okay.. like he said, he ate basically rice most of the time.

4. The people care less if you exist or not.. just going about doing their normal day to day activities.

5. He said it could cost as much as 2.5m traveling to South Korea.

PS: I need someone to corroborate this pls.
have you Google to verify his claims?

My research on the Internet is contrary to what your friend told you.

CANDYDADDY:
My Two adorable daughters at age of 5 and 10 years have being cramming up what I thought to be immoral songs lately.

One of them sang Naira Marley's 'Opotoyi' when she was doing house-chore this morning.

I have almost put all my electronic gadgets on parental lock just for them not to be carried away by immorality.

One of them is even singing 'Omo oni di rabata', I almost beat the hell out of her.

Have bought them various educational song CDs and all sort of things

Help!
Don't you think it will be better if you sit them down and discuss things with them rather than given out capital punishment? In the next 10 years the older Girl will be 18 ? Right? An adult, will you also dictate things for her? If she is in university how will you know the kind of songs she listen to?

Man, if anyone haven't tell you this now listen... Forget they are your little kids. The truth is they view their selves as individuals. They are smart. Discuss with them, hear their point of view, however, Ensure that sort of song isn't accessible to them. You can even reward them if they obey your rules by doubling their pocket money and gifts, and so on

Man just be creative, and be smart.this is minor issue.
