frosbel: There are two types of death.

Spiritual death happens when we are alive and alienated from the life of GOD and then follows physical death.

ADAM's sin brought in death.

Stop following tradition , follow truth, the truth is always almost in the minority.
since when did "in the minority" become irrefutable proof of "the truth"?

frosbel: Jesus Christ came to save us from DEATH not ETERNAL Torment.

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." - Romans 6:23

Proverbs 11:19 The truly righteous man attains life, but he who pursues evil goes to his death.

Ezekiel 18:4 For every living soul belongs to me, the father as well as the son--both alike belong to me. The soul who sins is the one who will die.

Romans 1:32 Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

Romans 5:21 so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

For the eternal torment cheer leaders, as horrible as DEATH is and as horrible as the Lake of Fire is , they are not satisfied. It has to be torment for trillions of years.
incase u dont know eternal doesnt mean trillions of years, it actually is closer to timelessness, a state without d burden of time.

Will anyone want to worship a GOD who will torture his creatures made in his own image for Trillions and Trillions of years after which the punishment is only just starting. God's creatures being literally fried for ever and ever and ever and ever at over 1000 degrees centigrade.
d same way atheist say there is no God because there is suffering. Sorry this isnt a point.

Is it not true to say that only a SADIST in the person of SATAN will try to malign the character of GOD as he has done for eons ?

Is the catholic church not the conduit through which all these false doctrines flow into the world and is the Pope not Satan's mouth piece ?
ur arguement alway goes back to d pope and the catholic church, very soon u will deny christ just becos d pope accepts him

How sicker can it get people.

Is Hitler more righteous than GOD, is Genghis Khan more righteousness than GOD , is Stalin more righteous than GOD.
can u define righteousness? Since wen did justice become unrighteous?

Why are people so proudly and arrogantly hell bent on misrepresenting the character of GOD.

What father will beat his children for weeks and weeks non-stop because they stole a loave of bread ?
Get real , stick to the bible
True sequence of events ;
1. Man dies and is no more
2. Resurrection
3. Righteous get new bodies
4. wicked judged and thrown into the lake of fire with hades and death itself
5. wicked experience punishment in degrees
6. wicked perish forever
7. No more death
8. God's new everlasting kingdom is ushered in
9. The saints enjoy bliss forever and ever
10.the wicked are no more
ha! Ur number 5, so they will suffer but only in time and later be distroyed, wow

King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.)
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death., neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

According to the scripture above, there will be no more death, how can there be no more death when people are still 'DYING' the second death in the lake of fire.
Madness !!!
ur aim here is to play on emotions, hey God is too loving to let pipo suffer for trillions of years, d same way d atheist and agnostics say it is imposible for a loving God to permit suffering in this world. I've got news for u guyz eternal punishment is as real as temporal suffering, airbrushing it wont help.

So in your own eyes, a group of people were busy killing your tribe systematically and at the same time telling you to be part of them all in the name of 'it is well' and you as the leader will believe that?
my opinion is different, the ibo systematical anihilated the political heavy weight of other tribes and provoked a retaliation that they couldnt handle. At the end they decleared a genocidal war upon themselves and at the end they are blaming others.
Well, I perceived you are from another Planet, here on Planet Earth we are told, "Trust not a reconciled friend, for new turns cannot blot out old grudges". Looking at your Nigeria of today, has the likes of Ojukwu, Wole Soyinka and those who believe Nigeria is a failed State not been vindicated now? Be a REALIST and not an IDEALIST in an UTOPIAN WORLD where nothing is real, that's who we are in NIGERIA and that has been our problem!!!
u are joking right? U do not know me yet u presume that im an idealist living in a utopia. I saw your quote, "those who cant take responsibility for their mistakes will end up throw d blame around and will never move forward" that is my own quote. When ojukwu started his war he failed to plan that means he planed to fail and fail he did and systematically anihilated his own people.

But don't forget, the bible also told us that No man has seen God, so i wonder huh

truthislight: there was no NT then, as such they the apostles were the authorities and it is this apostles that wrote the books called the NT

The NT writings are leters to christian congregations on how to conduct the church and the beliefs of the church thereof.

With this instructions the church is to operate.

This are the instructions of the apostles to christians and i stand by that.
did the apostles write to all the churches? Did they wish for their writting to be compiled? Did they wish to write without exception all they had received? Before 98ad the NT wasnt completed, before 385ad there was no generally accepted NT, So for over 300yrs the early church didnt have a bible. And today someone is telling me that the bible is d sole and final authority, were does the bible say so? Anytime i hear sumone talk about d SS doctrine i will tell that person it is unbiblical. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, 19 to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord." 20 And he closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant, and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. 21 And he began to say to them, "Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing." - Luke 4:17-21

frosbel: Personally it is not to form different camps or groups or even to attract followers , that we start and discuss certain topics.

It has to do with standing on the Word of GOD and not the words of MEN.

For example the catholic church like the Mormons cannot operate on Sola scriptura alone, their doctrines are heavy laden with tradition , which has corrupted the TRUTH and made it of no effect.

I must be honest, in the past my views were with the majority such as tithe , trinity etc. However when I started to look into the bible to validate the factuality of these doctrines , scripture refused to support them and so I had to discard.

Our understanding of the bible must always be based on the truth of scripture , not the reasoning of Men.
why will the catholic church use sola scriptural when scripture doesnt even support that rule? I go with verbum Dei.
The wrath of God is a part of Christianity you don't hear much anymore these days. What I want to do on this thread is to have a discussion on the the nature of God, God's wrath and leading on eventually to a discussion about the nature of Hell.

This thread is in fulfillment of a promise i made to here: https://www.nairaland.com/1068988/god-truly-god-justice-then/1#12555017

I want us to have a really serious discussion and not some haphazard nonsense so I'll set some ground rules here:

The Rules/Guidelines

I would like to invite all Christians accepting that the bible is our final authority on this matter. If the bible is not your final authority, please don't bother commenting.

Also we will choose 2 translations alone as the only ones acceptable in this discussion. This is to avoid the practice of "translation jumping" and in the process focusing on the letter at the expense of the Spirit.

Everyone who wishes to participate must start with a declaration that the bible is his/her final authority and then nominate one translation of scripture that may be used. At the end of the day, the top two voted translations will be the official ones for this discourse.

If you are an atheist or anything other than a christian and the bible does not have the final say for you, Your opinion is not needed here. If you comment, you will be ignored. I want to respectfully ask you to please stay away. There are a number of other threads on this forum that we can play in. Not this one.

The discussion proper will start tomorrow after we have agreed on the bible translations to use and the boundaries of our discussion. For now, let those interested in partaking declare their interest and suggest a bible translation.
does a spirit have emotions?

frosbel: 27 Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, “Who do people say I am?”

28 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.”

29 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.” - Mark 8
hahaha, frosbel is jumping matt puts it dis way "the son of d living God" did u miss dat part?

If you notice in this verse, some called Jesus John the baptist, Elijah and even one of the prophets, but no one ever said GOD , if they did that would have been blasphemy.
and calling himself begotten of God was also blasphemy accding to d jets see john, because dat meant he has the divine nature making him equal to d fada by nature.

Peter was accurate in his answer - You are the Messiah
the son of the living God
After a few verses in the same chapter, Jesus followed with the statement :

"He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again"- Mark 8
the son of man is also son of God. The word became flesh. Frosbel pls interprete d bible as a whole, stop cherry picking.

Also John made a very good point when he said :

"No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him." - John 1:18
so d son wu is say is just a man, saw God. Aleluia

And Jesus verified this with the following statement :

"No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father." - John 6:46

Appears some of us have no qualms belittling the words of JESUS in order to stick with Pagan tradition !
i think u shuld throw away d pagan tradition that say Jesus didnt preexist. Can u tell me how Jesus wu u say was just a man saw God?

He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to

nothing in his appearance that we should

3 He was despised and rejected by mankind,
a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.
Like one from whom people hide their faces
he was despised, and we held him in low

4 Surely he took up our pain
and bore our suffering,
yet we considered him punished by God,
stricken by him, and afflicted.
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on
him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to our own way;
and the LORD has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed and afflicted,
yet he did not open his mouth;
he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
8 By oppression[a] and judgment he was taken
away.
Yet who of his generation protested?
For he was cut off from the land of the living;
for the transgression of my people he was
punished.[b]
9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked,
and with the rich in his death,
though he had done no violence,
nor was any deceit in his mouth.
10 Yet it was the LORD’s will to crush him and
cause him to suffer,
and though the LORD makes[c] his life an
offering for sin,
he will see his offspring and prolong his days,
and the will of the LORD will prosper in his
hand.
11 After he has suffered,
he will see the light of life[d] and be
satisfied[e];
by his knowledge[f] my righteous ""SERVANT"" will
justify many,
and he will bear their iniquities.

plappville: No the Bible cannot contradict itself and i am not saying such. what i am saying is that Jacob did not see God. Now see what Ezekiel told us.

Ezekiel 1:1 In my thirtieth year, in the fourth month on the fifth day, while I was among the exiles by the Kebar River, the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God.

4 I looked, and I saw a windstorm coming out of the north—an immense cloud with flashing lightning and surrounded by brilliant light. The center of the fire looked like glowing metal, 5 and in the fire was what looked like four living creatures. In appearance their form was human, 6 but each of them had four faces and four wings.

U can see the descriptions in Ezekiel go on if you continue, but already we can understand that God travels with angel heralds who appear like men.
In Moses's case, it was smilar, They were three that visited Moses.

It may seem that Yahweh sent a messenger, His angel in the appearance of a man to wrestle with Jacob.
That would also explain why the messenger, upon blessing Jacob first He has to inquire as to what Jacob's name is. see(Gen 32:28)
But Jacob, might not have realized that he encountered a an angel rather than God himself.
It's like enough that the appearance of the angel was so supernatural as to be the most amazing thing Jacob had ever seen.
The Bible couldn't in no way contradicts itself, So therefore, Jecob didn't see Yahweh face else He will die, that's what the bible says.
Edited:
haha, now u just insulted d bible, so jacob was ignorant of what he saw and his errors were written in d inerrant word of God abi? U can go on and tell me what else is an error in ur bible.

Since God no marry wife Jesus was created.....

And from the dictionary I've shown you the numerous definitions of begotten...........

Pro create,create,produce,cause....etc......

Many of us theists have been trying to convince the atheist that the universe had a ""cause""....

How else was the universe caused if not created??

Except God marry o b4 you go fit escape the truth wey dey right in front of You......

Jesus is called the ""1st born of"" all creation.....for the 30 times the expression ""first born of"" occured in the scriptures and been applied to living things it meant one and the same thing........

It meant the person under consideration was part of the family of those who was caused...

E.g...

##1st borns of the egyptians were themselves egyptians but the 1st of the group ....

##1st borns of the isrealites were themselves isrealites but the 1st .........

##1st borns of the wild beast were themselves animals but the 1st of it....

From the scriptures Jesus being the 1st born of Gods creations clearly means Jesus is part of creation, but the 1st of it........

Truth is standing right in front of you...
so God must marry before he can begot a son abi? Weldone ijawkid wants to fit God in his head even in nature there are many that reproduce without having a 'wife'. Remember ur biology class?

italo: All sex and sexual acts are to be chaneled towards procreation and the mutual self-giving of each married partner to the other. Any sexual acts outside this is a SIN. Masturbation inclusive.

plaetton: Actaully sir, you seem to have agreed with me in totallity.
My argument, though it branched off into other issues, is very simple.
That thee Israelites were polytheistic, just like their Canaanite neighbors.
hahaha, "the israelites were polytheist", you havent proved that!!! You have showed from your documentary that the isrealite prophets in an effort to close the mouth of the pagans transfered the porfolios of a great many gods to ONE GOD, how does that support youhuh The bible shows the prophet again and again condemning the polytheism of the canaanites and egyptians, does that still support you??
That is, though Yahweh was their chief god, they worshiped other gods along with him.
and does judaism agree with the practice? Can you show that that practice is part of judaism? D jew live among polytheist and some jews copied the practice, but u havent showed me that judaism support polytheism.
And I used several verses in the bible to illustrate yahweh's frustration with the Israelites who did not heed his warnings about worshiping other gods.
those are proof against you, u succeeded in showing us that judaism spits on polytheism
That is all.
I used the BBC documentary and the Ugarith texts simply to show that these are not just my personal opinions, but are historically accepted facts.
nah you have used those texts to support anony that scriptures and prophet ascribes everything d canaanites ascribed to their many gods to just one God wu they called yahweh. Your proof text insults your arguements.

plaetton: That's it in a nutshell.
Thank you.

The major bone of contention between Yahweh and the Israelites throughout the old testament was the worship of other gods. That was Yahweh's major headache. It was not about a few insignificant misguided few. If it was just a few men and women playing truancy with yahweh, it would have been easy for Yahweh and his priests and prophets to rid the land of these few.
The worship of other gods were so entrenched, as evidently ephasized in the bible, that Yahweh at times vowed to wipe them, the entire nation, from the face of the earth.
Imagine king Solomon, certainly one of the most beloved, revered and popular king of ancient Israel, being a polytheist. That alone says a lot about polytheism in ancient Israel.
your just succeeded in proving that many in ancient israel were polytheist yet you havent proved that polytheism is part of judaism nor have you proved that polytheism is part of the jewish culture. I can go very far to prove that many christians in africa in the past serve more than one god, yet that isnt proof that christianity is polytheist. So really, you havent proved that the jews were polytheist since u cant prove that polytheism is fundamental to judaism and a part of it culture.

wiegraf: Allow me to interject needlessly. Well, actually, I will do so whether y'all like it or not (note I never claim to be mature).
@anony, are you cracking under the pressure? Breathe, man, breathe. You don't want to become afflicted with a certain disorder that seems to hit long time religionists on here. I'm sure they were sane at some point in time, but gradually gave in to the madness. Breath, man, breath.

Never even heard of ugarith before, but would you accept their text as valid in this discussion?
hahaha, funny, really who say the ugarith text must be correct? Nobody! But it will do us good to consider the proof brought forward. Personally the thread has been illuminating but i dont see the conclusion plaeton seems to be making, he seems to be reading into the text.
