How long can you leave it in the bank?
This one that Dollar price is going up and down anyhow, that 1million of today will be worth 500k next year.
So you will ultimately think to quickly invest this 1million in something sensible to retain or increase its value.
And that is exactly where scammers will show up promising you heaven and earth.
And that is how people get scammed.
Will you say you were greedy to think like that?

I doubt people pay £20-£30 per month for landline.
I pay £30 for my landline, basic Virgin Media TV package and M350 broadband (350MBps download speed). You have to call to get discounted deals. Never sign up for deals on their website.

Regarding mobile contract, nobody forces you to get latest phone. It's a choice. You can always get sim only deal at an affordable rate.
I left UK 2009. So I'm just marking up prices. I know all the basic rules still apply. I do keep in touch with family there. But I'm seriouly not breaking my head over UK lifestyle in details anymore.

This is quite an enlightenment. Thumbs up!!!

However, the fee charge for internet services is quite fair, if u ain't converting to naira in your head... Come to think of it, Here in Nigeria, to enjoy such unlimited network service for a month, it will cost u nothing less than #10k. An avg Nigerian can't boast of making 10k in day, whereas over there, £100 is just a daily income which can sort the network service bill for a month. That's the difference.
The diagram is from BT phone company (The senior brother of our collapsed government NITEL phone line)
The mobile phone advert is from www.o2.co.uk. (A typical mobile phone operator in UK)
This arrangement is very similar in all western/developed nations.

I'm sorry chief, I don't get your grouse here.

They shouldn't call friends and family anymore because they have upgraded or relocated?!!

Or must they give out money because they reconnected with family?!!

Please, clarify your position abeg!
Nigerians back home will NEVER be convinced that things are difficult overseas.
So they are ALWAYS going to beg for money if you call them back home.
Don't waste your time trying to convince them otherwise.
If you just don't have money to give them, then stop calling them.
-
I'm in Nigeria here. I have a cousin in UK there. But we call each other and talk all the time without me begging him for money.
This is only possible because I too lived in the UK at a time and suffered everything he is suffering.
So I know 1000% that he doesn't have money. We can talk normally about any other topic except money, and his mind is at rest.
But for his own siblings that have not yet travelled and don't understand, he has to blocked their contact as they were not allowing him sleep.
Begging for money 24/7.

She isn't wrong!

Most Nigerians just like begging, and they do it with so much entitlement and guilt-tripping.

The day I learnt to be hardened and ignore beggars was the day I felt reborn!

I have so many loved ones and close pals doing very well abroad (different nations), but I have never and will never ask them for a dime!... They respect me for that, and never hesitate to offer help when they sense the need.

Young men and women, hustle hard and well... Leave abroad people to drink water and drop cup. E no easy as una think for their side.
People travel abroad because they are tired of Nigeria.
But they will still carry phone and be phoning Nigeria again?

Since you are better bring the money and give us Na. Otherwise shut up and face whitemen and their society and stop phoning back home.

Many of you guys need a change of mindset.
My company in Nigeria here, is the goodest company in the world. Now, some of my bosses went and put their profile on LinkedIn. As per, advertise yourself Na Abi?
That's how LIRS (Lagos State tax revenue) saw the profile and came to attack our office, Pay-pay-pay tax. Shebi you said you are MD of so and so company, Oya you must be earning millions and your tax must be so-so amount. And it's not so. But Lagos State tax will not believe. Our accountant has to be battling with them every single month, to show the receipts and invoices of EVERYTHING that comes into that office (even if you buy chewing gum sef)...But each time they will find fault and ask for settlement and brown envelope.
Tomorrow, they will say that that have not done any tax clearance at all, that we should start again. We have done 2015 tax clearance 5 times. But they will never close the case.

All this is for our company that decided to the doing goody-goody.

Well, I guess you have stayed (too) long. I never got used to it. 15C was still my complete long sleeve and jacket weather. And I never sweated.
It means you will collapse of heat exhaustion if you come back to Nigeria.

I'm coming back to ask my questions but first, why do people abroad always mention these 2 things as if we in Nigeria don't pay for them

1) PHONE BILLS

2) INTERNET BILLS.

,,,,,experienced abroadians wink
Internet abroad comes in 2 mandatory flavours.
1. Home internet
2. Mobile phone internet
-
The home internet comes from the modem
The modem is connected to the land line. The land line is connected to the home land phone.
You may not use the home land phone to call, but it's working very well and you must pay a base fee of £20 ~ 30 each month to keep the service active.
Then pay for home internet that is running on top of the home phone line £20 ~ 40 etc for unlimited internet but with very fast speeds like 20 Mbps, 40 or 100 Mbps.
(your Nigerian phone data speed is roughly like 5-10 Mbps on a good day in Lagos. In the East 1kbps (WhatsApp dey hang for there).
That settles home phone and internet every month.

Now for mobile phone, you will typically take out a contract of 12, 18 or 24 months.
They give you latest phone free, but you must pay £20, 30, 40 per month for unlimited calling and texting (SMS). But you must use data for WhatsApp and Twitter, so add small amount on top for data plan it can be 20 GB per month. But remember that once you reach your house, you immediately switch over to your unlimited WiFi internet at home.

So basically abroad people have unlimited internet that is not favouring them. They just force themselves to be doing YouTube and video calls so they will know that at least they are using the internet for something and not wasting it.

But that useless landline phone is there chopping its own steady £30 each month for nothing. And you can't save that money or stop the service otherwise all your internet will just end like that.

£30 + £40 + £30 = £100
£100 x ~N650 = N65,000 per month for phone and internet.

Nna, me sef I go complain O.

one would think its cold for 11 months
I lived in UK once. Compared to Nigeria, it is cold for 12 months. In their so called summer, when the whites where going about without shirt, and licking ice cream, I was still very comfortable in full long sleeve shirt, trouser and inner vest, without any sweat on my face, or armpit.
For the other months, I put on another heavy jacket untop of this base. And for winter gan-gan, I wore:
2 x inner vest
2 x long sleeve shirt
1 x winter jacket
1 x wool scarf around the neck.
1 x boxer shorts
1 x long Johns (trouser form of singlet)
1 x trouser
2 x wool socks (double socks)
Thick leather shoes/boots with thick rubber soles.
1 x head warmer (wool cap)
1 x felt/wool gloves

This is the complete set everyday for winter, otherwise you just catch pneumonia, cough and die.
Nigerias temperature is 20 to 35 C year round in the South.
UK temperature is - 10 to 25 C year round .
So it will always be cold and terrible for a tropical African like us.
I only opened my room window like 3 or 4 times thoughout the year.

Let me tell you how this ends, it's either you give her what she wants in which case she wants more and with time, it finally exposed to your boss who then treat your fcked up and send you back to square 1 or you refused to yield to her desires and she use woman's power to make your boss kick you out. Either way, you will need to add distribution job to your working experience on your CV soon or you can try another option FAST call her and tell her how much she discomfort you with being to closed especially when your boss is not around and pray she understands you and call herself to order otherwise, this would only make her use woman's power to get you replaced asap.

The article clearly says the man 'checked out the following day', which means the staff likely knew when he left.

Since hes the one who likely paid for he room, that is where it ends. It's only if the girl was the one trying to leave that I know some hotels would call the room to be sure the occupant is aware.

So the only lead here will be if there are CCTVs as well as the details given by the man (which could be fake, BTW)
Sheybe if the man came with her, they will both write their names in register.
When he is leaving, he will pay for his room and then they should ask him about the girl that came with him.
The staff should make sure, he go and bring the girl before checking out.
