IbeOkehie: Dear Sir, your comment is meaningless and conveys nothing, running in circles just to confuse issues. Read the report, if you doubt it go and find and read GTB earnings report, I'm sure it's on their website because it's a legally mandated and audited public document that ANYONE is entitled to read.
GTB made a huge profit by converting naira to dollars & pound sterling and holding the forex and then converting back to naira as opportunity presented itself. Nothing else. It's basic arbitrage. That's how banks and big wigs like Peter Obi, Aliko Dangote and Adenuga have been making mad money in Nigeria for a looooong time, most people just don't know it.
CBN recently tried to curtail the practice by restricting the use of dollars as collateral to borrow naira. It's a futile effort. As long as the Federal Government of Nigeria continues to rig the forex market, this carry trade will never die.
You were simply WRONG, sorry about that.
Good Luck to you. You’re spot on with this. As far back in 2016 Lamido Sanusi made this revelation on currency arbitrage but Nigerians hate to read. He decried the state of forex dual window operation highlighting the economic havoc that accompanied it. He stated it that some bigwigs make a fortune daily that even the likes of Aliko Dangote will be jealous just by exploiting the forex dual market window. https://www.ft.com/content/c0c0876c-cd8a-11e5-831d-09f7778e7377Unfortunately the leaders of tomorrow were busy glued to their 40inch television watching BB9ja and sharing the reel all over social media. I started converting my salary when I was in Nigeria to USD upon understanding these concepts and it really helped me to preserve its value and also make gains. I had to split my portfolio between USD and cryptocurrency then kept just enough naira to sustain my basic expenses for the month until another inflow. Nigeria is on economic comatose. |

pansophist: Wow, I didn't know there was a verse in Ecclesiastes that explained it so clearly.
Also, a lot of modern philosophical works can be traced to the bible. There was a time (a few years ago) when I was linking modern philosophical and scientific works to passages in the bible, and I linked at least a hundred.
And I lost the file.
I will try to do it again and post it here. The Bible is deeply philosophical and scientific, and if one removes their bias (e.g. being non-religious), they could see lots of material wisdom in its teachings. Lemme list some that I can remember.
1. What redpillers called the 80/20 rule is known scientifically as the Pareto principle, and biblically as the Mattew principle (Matthew 25;29).
2. The Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung always talks about the shadow, and that every person should recognize, accept, and integrate their dark sides to become whole. So biblically as you wrote, it would be Ecclesiastes 7:16-17.
I will be updating this page as I remember them, or probably just create a new topic. As you rightly said there’s more to the Bible than meets the eyes. I see it as a coded book with snippets of life nuggets. Please do well to create a thread for this (when time permits) so we can run minds and share ideas. Cheers ! |
Romance › Re: Please Guys I Seriously Need Your Input On This by wwwtortoise(m): 5:46am On Aug 25, 2023 |
pansophist: I was trying to be polite, hence I didn't want to respond directly to the post, because there is no way I wont yab the OP
But fork it, this is what I think.
I wrote earlier that the cards a woman will ever play are dependent on the game a man is playing. As a man, especially as a traditional provider man, he is in the driver's seat, and he is weak, hence his wife treats him like that.
Your desire shall be contrary to husband, but he shall rule over you. Genesis 3.16
By nature, authority will always be tested. Children will test you, employees will test the boss, and the wife will test her husband.
Women do not respect men because they want to, or because they should. They only respect a man only if he is deserving of respect.
And to be deserving of respect, you must integrate both light and darkness into your being. For example, God is a combination of good and evil. If you do good, you go to heaven. If you do bad, you go to hell.
Believe it or not, many religious folks are religious not because they want to, but because they are scared of hell. Being a good husband involves the ability to call his wife to order. Every man must integrate evil, and light as a prerequisite.
Some of the most wonderful guys I know as a friend, who also are good husbands to their wives, and wonderful fathers to their kids are really REALLY dangerous men.
If you are in their good book, you will love them. You can trust them, they will stand by you, and you will feel good that you have a true friend. But if you are in their bad book, kindness will never be the thing you know them with.
When a person has only light in him and no darkness, then you are a harmless man, like a chicken, and you will be eaten. No one respects men who can't be the opposite of good.
If one has only light in them, then they are insecure. Like a simp. They will not want confrontation, because they can't fight. They will be puppets and a bitcch for someone who can fight. And of course, the person that can fight will sacrifice them in one of his many battles.
If one has only darkness in them, then it is psychopathy/narcissism. Pray you don't meet this kind of people. They are pure evil in human skin. They will smile with you, and stab you in the next minute. They are cold-blooded.
I know people like this, that has only darkness in them. I can see and smell it from far away, but that takes special wisdom and foresight.
But to have both light and darkness in you is to be fully grounded, or to have integrated your shadow in the Jungian terms. Only people whose strength comes from the inside can be good.
When you depend on yourself and your ability, then you have both light and darkness in you, because your strength is internal, and you don't have to betray yourself for others' acceptance, just because you depend on them for something.
His attitude towards his wife is weak. Weak people are punished. The poster is suffering from leadership, and if you lead wrongly, the consequences are what the wife is giving him.
Sorry, I have diverged from the main topic and went straight into the philosophical theory that underpins his and his wife's relational dynamic, but you should be able to see the point I am trying to make. Nice write up. You saved me from typing. Good and bad coexist for a reason. Anyone who can absorb both while striking a balance is physically and spiritually formidable. This brings me to a scripture I internalized even before turning 18 - Ecclesiastes 7:16-17 |

Oyindamolah: The guy who approached you awkwardly isn't a creep. He's just not a player and doesn't have his pick up lines down to an art.
Some of the most charming men who seem to be able to say and do the perfect things to get your affection early on are the creepiest, most abusive guys.
Charm is good at first impressions but doesn't tell you who the person really is until you get to know them more. Actors are charming. Charm can be an act.
If a man is a bit awkward when trying to talk to you, that might actually be a good thing. It indicates he's not constantly going around practicing his game and hitting on tons of women. He doesn't do this often and it's genuine Depends on how you see it. I can flip the coin and act naive sometimes doesn’t mean I lack game. Different games requires different strategies/approach. Happy Sunday comrade. |

Politics › Re: "Our Economy Is Trapped" - Tinubu Vows To End Nigeria’s Over-reliance On Loans by wwwtortoise(m): 10:09pm On Aug 08, 2023 |
COMPAQ: The idea is not really to increase tax rates but to ensure more collection.
Let's be honest with ourselves, those who evade tax are in the majority. Easier example that comes to mind is landlords. Like hundreds of billions change hands each year on rent, yet the landlords don't pay shi shi, because it's "impossible" to catch them when no data exists on who owns what property, what is rented etc.
With data and integration alone making it much harder to evade tax, Nigeria can almost double it's tax revenue in 5 years.
Unfortunately it will take hard work, focused disciplined work to achieve it and that's where we struggle as Nigerians. You’re right but I don’t totally agree with you. Ensure more collection you say. What tangible and sustainable economic value have the past and present governments created in the last 10years with all the taxes she has been generating? The petro-dollar funds during oil boom, constant borrowing/loan yet nothing to show for it. Okay let me scale it down. How or what you do with little will determine to a great extent what you’ll likely do with plenty. The biblical parable of five talents explains this. Nigeria needs fix insecurity, power and amend that stupid constitution else nothing will work. Fix these and watch the magic of capitalism work wonders. These taxes will only end up in the pockets of the economic saboteurs. Focusing on taxation at this time is akin to an engineer who mounts a gate In between pillars without fencing. Cheers! |

Is there anyway you can assist with a job or referral at where u work?? I'll be doing my MSC at a Uni in Glasgow. UK work experience is not a prerequisite to land a job here in Scotland for a part-time work. Glasgow is to Scotland what Lagos is to Nigeria. So you’ll have plenty of job options.
