I never heard of a course called Linguistic Relations in my whole 6years of studying in UNILAG. So she's probably lying. |
Why cant people make post to share their opinion without insulting others? It is really sickening and shows many of us are not tolerant with other people's view. How do you learn when you refuse to even reason at what other people says? |
Christiano Ronaldo is very good but unfortunately in a club that is not as good as Barcelona |
Solution to flood problem in Nigeria is heavy investment in proper planning of settlements with major emphasis given to modern drainage system. I don't know why its too difficult for the government to think in that direction. If they can be spending money reclaiming land from water in Lagos Island, why then cant they reason on how to prevent water from disturbing people living in these settlements. The recent earthquake in the East part of United States of America, which is not close to any fault line(converging plates) is a sign to show that Lagos is at a risk of a serious Tsunami and not just flood because of the poor planning it has |
Da Doctor, I agree with the English deficiency you pointed out which is because of their disadvantaged past that cannot be erased but the issue here is NNPC aptitude test, so dont deviate from the topic. Also if you have worked in a multinational, you would have noticed that many of these so call experts find it very very difficult to converse in good English and dont struggle to be managers where they will be expected to be giving presentation all the time but develop themselves better in the technical part of their job which even though the boss understand their language deficiency, still cannot do without they technical ability. |
Da Doctor, I have worked offshore and in the office an an Engineer for some years and believe I have some experience to make comment on this matter. At graduation myself and several of my friends passed kpmg, pwc, all d bank test i wrote, p&g, orwell, shell, chevron aptitude test, Baker Hughes test, Transocean test and some i cant remember so tell me wetin NNPC wan bring wey dey different? If he has said interview that requires soft skills, I will understand but definitely not test as expressed here. NNPC need to remove all the unqualified people in their rank and file before they talk bad about Nigerian graduates cos I have met alot of NNPC/ DPR engineers on assignments in the operating companies that dont know anything about operation and they are supposed to be incharge of projects as a government rep and claim to have 10-15yrs experience. |
@ Da Doctor, Do you think getting 1500 in GRE to get an admit into Stanford and Princeton does not require your have a sound aptitude test skill, or getting recruited by Chevron or Total does not require good aptitude test skills? Try to understand reality before you make comments. I still stand by my word that people like you that focus so much on castigating first class are those that couldn't make first class and looking for the slightest excuse to say they are not good |
I strongly disagree with the allegation put forward by the GMD of NNPC. Nigerians might not be exposed to generally cope with some soft skills expected of them in the global cooperate environment but as far as aptitude test is concern globally, we have some of the very best test taker in Nigeria because in Europe and America, you don't need to write any test to be employed most times and when it is needed, these guys fail alot from personal experience with some of them. Nigerians might have problem with interview that has alot to do with self confidence and how well you can converse in good English, which is lacking in many first class and 2-1 because majority of people in these class are poor/average under privileged people that struggle to work their way up the ladder and still find it difficult to erase their disadvantaged past but when exposed and given the right environment, they will excel. I didn't not make a first class but hate it when people that were unfortunate not to have made first-class or 2-1 come out publicly, saying trash which to me is obviously out of jealousy about the intellectual capacity of all first class and 2-1. The 5 first class guys in my graduating Unilag class have the following current status: 1. Currently a PhD holder from Stanford university USA 2. Currently a PhD holder Princeton University USA 3. MSc Cambridge University, PhD Manchester University current with Total 4. MSc University of Texas, Currently with Schlumberger USA 5. Currently with Chevron Nigeria. These are the 5 first class graduates I had in my graduating class so people should shut the Bleep up and stop saying bad things about first class because they couldn't achieve what this guys did. That is why the African continent doesn't progress as we always want to pull people better than us down, |
Olumide your post is the best answer so far First, blacks were enslaved by the white man directly from 1441 when the Portuguese captains Antão Gonçalves and Nuno Tristão capture 12 Africans in Cabo Branco (modern Mauritania) and took them to Portugal as slaves. The first English colony in North America, Virginia, acquired its first Africans in 1619, after a ship arrived, unsolicited, carrying a cargo of about 20 Africans. These trend continued until the official abolition of apartheid in South Africa in 1994 after its most influential Black leader Nelson Mandela had been imprisoned for 28 years. Then came the era of colonialism, where thesame Europeans partitioned Africa to countries for their own selfish capitalistic idea without recourse to difference in the culture and way of life of these people which is the reason for people in Africa always fighting civil wars because people want to break out from the forced union they find themselves(Imagine France and England forced to live together as a country and see if they wont spend more time fighting like they did in the 100yrs war rather than planning how to develop their country in unity). Before that stupid old white man will talk about history, he should find about what they have done to the black race for the last 600 years and even today, there are selectively profiling in every facet of life that put blacks in a disadvantaged position, which makes them to resort to crime as they grow up with hatred and anger for the system. I was born and brought up in Africa and didn't really experience racism as a child. But as an educated adult black man in a white man's country, I can understand what black citizens in Europe and America goes through because they experience racism from birth and it is almost mathematically certain that there is a limit they can achieve in life and need to work three times as hard as a white man 2 be get thesame attention the white man will have. The most senior police officer in the British Met who is a police Chief Constable, has 3 undergraduate degrees and 2 postgraduate degrees, has been called to the British bar and currently over qualify for his present job. DO you also see how Barrack Obama is being frustrated simply because he is black? Black find themselves selectively profiled in jobs without recourse to how smart they are but simply the colour of their skin. Imagine that 45% of unemployed people in London are blacks and blacks are suppose to be minority in London. What does that tell you about the system and what do you expect these guys to do? In as much as I don't support the vandalism experienced by England, I still believe that the current black culture they talk about was created by the white man. Besides Jamaicans are descendant of slaves created by the white man. They didn't asked to be taken to the American continent but were mostly stole and shipped there. African leaders have generally failed the continent but I hate it when fellow blacks who appears to know nothing about the history of the African continent making statement base on what they watch and hear from censored news, provided by the white man |
Somebody raise an issue sometime ago, saying all Nigerian Engineers and Scientist are useless and cannot do anything. I have Nigerian friends that have gone to the likes of Princeton, Stanford, MIT, Cambridge, Yale, Imperial College, ETH Zurich, Delft University of Technology, Caltech, UIUC etc and all other big schools you can think about which are power house of Engineering and did exceptionally well in their programme but still find it difficult finding the right environment to practice their profession and making a reasonable impact in the Nigerian technology industry. Some even find it difficult getting job in Nigeria because of the nepotism, favoritism, quota system and other vices that limit economic development by putting incompetent people in high position when there are actually well educated and exposed professionals who have better training and experience. PTDF is the most useless programme of the Nigerian government, cos they train Nigerians in good universities abroad, refuse to give them work and make many of them to be useful to other civilized countries other than Nigeria, while the Nigerian government dole out millions of dollars to these foreign countries(UK especially) to help them further develop their educational system. Why dont the federal government divert all those money spent on PTDF in the Nigerian universities? Imagine spending 10million naira for an MSc student and atleast 300 students are given scholarship to study in British universities per year. 300 students @ 10million per student is 3billion naira (20 million US Dollars) going to the UK economy every year for the past 8yrs or so and we all complain that the educational system in Nigeria is bad. I have not even talked about the NDDC scholarship which is awarded to over 200 students yearly, the Rivers State government scholarship, Delta State goverment scholarship, and other government scholarships. These are real capital flight out of the country and I dont know if it is that difficult for the dumbest educated man to be able to do simple economic analysis and see what is happening. Government primary and secondary schools in Nigeria are completely dead and they are suppose to be the foundation of the success of our educational system and hence our economy and future. It is time we start asking government to be accountable for our future and ask them why despite all the money spent training Nigerians abroad, we still cannot manufacture anything. Is it not a sign of mis priority by the government? The oil companies refuse to set up sound training centers in Nigeria and prefer to send their staff abroad for training at the expense of the development of the Nigerian oil and gas industry. All these training involves huge capital flight leaving the country to further develop the economy of these foreign countries. I can go on and on analysing government complete lost of sight, priority and focus based on how they have been handling economic and national matters since I was born. How long do we continue living and tolerating these? The blackman will continue to suffer in the hands of the white man until we can show the world we are not the savage they think we are by helping our people not to see reason to want to travel out of Africa at all cost when abroad actually have little to offer them, and also eliminate the poverty sight we always see about East African where extreme poverty is all we see hear about. |
How much does IWCF supervisor level certification cost at present? |
I expect the christians and other followers of Pastor Adeboye, to explain why Adeboye doesnt not depend on god for protection and instead depends on the protection of the GUN to end this arguments here rather than defending his use of the gun. For your information, I once witness a crusade around 2002 or so in Unilag where Adeboye was present and the level of security was very heavy, so before the birth of Niger Delta militant and Boko Haram, he has been using heavy security to move around instead of using the protection of the god he so believes can do miracle. |
^^^^^He is a chritian. Have you not been watching international news?? |
Is spiritual wife also an unknown problem of single man? The way you guys reason baffles me. Let your god solve the poverty problem in Africa the non religious western counties have been able to solve by simply doing the right thing before you sell him out to the public, |
^^^^^^ seconded |
I am officially an agnostic and dont believe in anything like prophecy but that doesnt rule out the fact that Nigeria cannot continue the way she's heading. From history, we can see that events going on in Nigeria did not happen in most other countries before a war or revolution took place, so watchout something that is very much needed will happen in Nigeria and alot of currupt blood will flow when it does happen. It is just a matter of mathematical certainty. Pastor Bakare who I dont give any regards to because I believe most pastors are con men, doesnt have to tell us something that can be deduced from common sense of reasoning before we will know what is to come, |
For several decades now, the north have been favoured by the government of Nigeria because of their educational backwardness that is why we have programmes like quota system and educationally less developed state, where standard of a region is lowered just to give certain people a fair share of opportunity that abound in a country as against merit which is mainly the reason why Nigeria is in shamble. Britain conquered the Northern and Southern part of Nigeria at about thesame period and introduced western education almost at thesame time with few negligible years difference in between but the north refused to generally accept to be educated. Considering the current situation where a lot of Northerners are against western education which is the basis of our current unified educational system, but instead prefers the Arabic education which from clear observation have not done them well, how long do we southerners continue to wait for the north to catch up with the south because I think their prejudiced rejection of western education is the reason why Nigeria is very backward and its time we start giving these guys conditions and targets rather than just sit down and continue wallowing in poverty and stagnation in development. Without educating our children, Nigeria cannot develop. |
Men spend more time discussion about their career and how to make more money than gossiping. Only jobless men gossip. Even when we speak about our women, its usually to ask about how they are fairing most of the time. I cant remember when last I sat with fellow friends to be discussing about girls generally when I have a very busy schedule |
poverty and societal expectation is the reason |
Nobody even mention Anthony Enahoro, the first person to push for Nigerian independent from the British and never took part in politics itself. Its funny how Nigerians pick people that inspire them when these same people are the one's that put them in their present suffering and poverty, |
@ dilluminati, Nice analysis of how man have been deceiving themselves for as long as we can remember on this rapture business. Its a pity people will still come and disprove all the facts you pointed out because they blindly believe something they have no proof about |
Lack of education and enlightenment, Lack of education and enlightenment, Lack of education and enlightenment, Lack of education and enlightenment, Lack of education and enlightenment, Lack of education and enlightenment, Lack of education and enlightenment, Lack of education and enlightenment, Lack of education and enlightenment, Lack of education and enlightenment, The government refuse to invest so much on the upcoming generation, so the viscious cycle continues. Europe changed drasticatically for good during the preiod of enlightenment when people started questioning the rational behind blindly believing the teachings of the church without using their brain to reason things out. Children need to be properly trained to reason straight rather than being taught that the only way to solve their problem is by praying which is one of the biggest problem in Nigeria. I believe so much in the universal mathematical equation that IN=OUT provided there is no creating, destruction or accumulation of components, |
@ Alphabet, I dont have 2 send you my resume cos I've got nothing to prove to you but I smiled when I saw your daft response. Your brain/reasoning is damaged becos the best you have seen is what Fashola has given you so I'll recommend you leave Nigeria and travel round the world to see how things are done in the west. I dont have time for someone like U cos I know where you belong to and I normally dont exchange words with people on Nairaland let alone someone like you. |
Nigerian power problem will be around for sometime. I spoke with an engineer with GE that is currently building some turbines in the country to add some extra power to our national grid and he said Nigeria can actually generate 6000MW in 4 years if government is sincere but the biggest problem is distribution. They dont even understand how PHCN manages the distribution and that is a different project entirely from generating power. But the stupid politicians dont give a press conference to educate the mases as to what is happening so that they wont be over expectant. |
@ Alphabet43, I know you directed your post to me. But I'm pretty sure based on your response that your are not half as educated/ exposed as I am so for me to be an illiterate like you said, I just imagine how daft you will be. If you read my post well, you will see i said, " slow down on his tax regime". not stop taxation so you cannot even understand simple english and you called me an illiterate. I lived in Lagos for atleast 30 years, so I pretty much understand what I am saying. You are probably one employee that does not understand what it takes to do business in Lagos State. If you know what is happening with the level of multiple taxation, you will understand what I am saying. Concerning the other point I raised about the inflated cost of projects, log on to this page (http://www.stb.lagosstate.gov.ng/STB.htm) to see what I am talking about. I only quoted Greece as an example of what the whole tax idea should be so if you dont understand something, shut the Bleep up!! |
In as much as we all think Fashola is doing well in Lagos state, the amount quoted as being spent on contracts awarded is alarming and seriously need to be looked into. Also, he really have to slow down on his tax regime because taxation with little benefit on the payers is fraud. And some petty business owners that can barely survive from their business are also forced to pay tax which is bad. What profit will they make after paying tax? In Greece, if you earn less than 10,000 euros per annum, you dont pay tax. That is equivalent to about 2million naira per annum in Nigeria which a lot of graduates dont earn. |
Imagine a situation where pass mark is 60% which is a B in a Nigerian university and the 60% is harder to get than in Nigerian university. All through out my undergraduate days in Nigeria, you are given maybe 4 questions to answer 3 or 6 questions to answer 4 in exams, but here it is always 10 to answer 10, 5 to answer 5, etc. I have never written any exam where I was given the option to choose and the worst thing is that in your transcript, the 60% is a D. 70% is a C. Truth is that you have all the resources to work with but you will search for the result yourself. Nobody will tell you how to do it. No dubbing of assignment, deadlines are strict, you have to work like a robot to cope. |
Nigerians tends to do well abroad because they put in more effort than they would when studying in Nigeria cos of factors like very expensive tuition and failure is not an option, as a black man you want to prove that your reasoning is not as low as most white guys think, if you resign from work you know you have no option but to get that degree. If I put in dsame effort I put in here in Nigeria, I would have made a super GPA. I spent 6yrs in Unilag and I can say this place is more stressful. |
Guys I'm sure studying abroad is harder than stydying in Nigeria because every professor is not bothered how many assignments you have already from other courses and just keep on dolling out more assignments. The lab work is another problem, papers to present are so much and here in TU Delft, you write exam 4 times in a year as against Nigeria 2 times in a year. No break after 1st exam. You finish exam on friday and resume for a new quater(four quaters make an academic year) next monday and the lecture just keep pouring in. Also it is not cram and pour system but U have to understand basic principles of your courses because exams are based on application but alot of Nigerians have a wrong impression about the stress in the education here. I can confirm that education abroad is more difficult. |
May be somebody is fixing the money meant for these projects in an account somewhere so that it can yield interest. Anything is possible in Nigeria |
@ Becomerichn, Its a pity you were allowed to graduate from Unilorin because you reason like a secondary school student in JSS |
