so all through, you're taking into account just contractions of the American economy. Why don't you factor in the boom also. Like I said earlier on, if the US dollar suffers that high rate of inflation, America would not be the economic fortress it is. The factors such as opportunity cost and co you listed have no business with currency stability.
With all due respect, you do not know what you're talking about. This discussion is not only about currency stability but overall purchasing power. You can have $100,000 and yet not be able to get value of $50,000 from it, at the same time you can have $50,000 and it can do things of $100,000. I would suggest you go back and read my initial comment and research more on the future value of money otherwise we would just be going back and forth in uneeded foolery.

check this link out ( https://www.dollartimes.com/inflation/inflation.php?amount=100000&year=1994)

none of the sites I searched ranked the equivalent to as much as $300,000.
My point is, if the dollar had such a high rate of inflation, it wouldn't be precious as a world currency.
Pls go back and read my comments slowly, inflation is not the only factor, when we talk of purchasing power there's a lot more to it than inflation. There's also opportunity cost, market corrections, recession and so on. Your little calculator does not account for the 2008-2010 recession, the dot com bust, the 9/11 attacks and so on. To put it simply, we are talking about FUTURE VALUE OF MONEY. If you had 100,000 in 1994 and made a decision to invest it(opportunity), the future value of that money assuming compound interest is between 5-10% is what? The result is a value much closer to a million. Inflation does not tell the complete story because it is one dimensional, house prices, food prices, labor all these things don't always rely on iinflation.

Investment valuation is not the same as money or currency valuation vis a vis time.
Your father may have add value to the house. The overall economy may have overvalued real estate. Apple add value to the company every year. What if you have bought ken lay Enron shares of $100000 when the company was ridding, today the shares will be worthless.
Like I've explained to the other poster, it can be anything, food price, services and so on. The fact remains that purchasing power of 100,000 dollars back in 1994 is equivalent to about 1 million today even in a country as stable as the United States.

I find no substantial wisdom in his songs unlike Fela.

He has nothing valuable to offer the youths of this country, let him just continue to flex with his money and keep his mouth shut when it comes to serious matter.

As for the revolution, it is coming soon, when we are not expecting it.
It took Fela 10 years to release songs that actually made sense, even then it took years after his death for people to truly notice his talents so I'm not surpirsed you feel this way about Burna... .Keep waiting for that revolution tho, perhaps pigs will fly one day grin grin grin

Is he not part of the Nigerian youths? What has he done with his huge media profile to rectify the wrongs done to the masses, except to smoke weed?

What protest has he led?

By his age, Fela his mentor was facing military mights daily, he can't even face common polithiefcians, but to yarn rubbish on social media.
Listen to words in his song and his outrage sometimes on social media, this is what smart people do. You lead protests against the Authoritarian Buhari and get locked up or shot. All for what? Bunch of people that won't fight for you when you're locked up? Same people that would even say you deserved it? Same people that would still call you sell out when you've given blood & sweat? Let's face it, nobody wants to die for Nigeria, even the ones that do stronghead like Sowore have had their brains reformatted with serious torture and abuse.....May God help us!

The only thing we should consider here is inflation. There was a time Ibadan, kano and kaduna had a higher pedigree and city value than Abuja and to an extent, Uyo. Today there is a huge gulf in the property cost difference between these cities, predominantly Abuja.......we should be looking at cost of fruits, foodstuffs and maybe popular musicians album cost and international beverages like coke. Land and houses have so many external factors that distorts their value........
Ultimately we are still talking about purchasing power, 100k dollars in 1994 gave you the purchasing power of about a million today regardless of geolocation. Whether it is properties, food items or services, yes inflation is a huge factor so are opportunity costs and the global market. The dollar is stong but it is no match for these factors which are constantly present in every country.

I know this is the angle you would be coming at. Don't look at it from a Nigerian perspective, just check the dollar inflation rate since then. Low.
It's the samething, 100,000 dollars in 1994 had the purchasing power of 1,000,000 dollars today. I've lived in the USA half of my life and my father's first property was bought for $20,000, same property was sold in 2014 for $189,000. So many more examples, think inflation, compund interest and opportunity cost. Another scenario, use that 100,000 to buy shares of Apple in 1994, today it would be worth well over 1 million dollars. There are plenty more examples but you get the gist.

that's not true, it's not even up to 500k as at today. The dollar is a very stble currency.
It's more than a million my friend, don't only look at interest rates but inflation as well. Land that cost 50k in 1994 is now 10 million or more, same for automobiles, cement and so on, everything has risen exponentially.

I believe the loss of manufacturing capabilities in Europe and America is the main reason for their severe COVID-19 morbidity and mortality when compared to Asian countries....

They couldn't get the resources they needed on time....
Materials such as PPE, gloves, masks, test kits, Hazmat suits couldn't be sourced fast enough to counter the spread of the scourge....
They even had to depend on China for critical equipment like ventilators....

Western countries will have to think hard about the future their manufacturing industries....
And whether outsourcing for cheaper labour is a good idea on the long run...
All in the name of higher profit margin and better return on investment for few greedy capitalist....

Lenin already warned that capitalism will be the doom of western nations....
He said a capitalist will gladly sell u the rope with which to hang him.....
"When it comes to time to hang the capitalists, they will vie with each other for the rope contract"
You've said it all! A whole America depending on China for ventilators and face masks. My worries about this 5G stuff:

1. Must we install this 5g at the same time with this pandemic?

2. Is this installed 5G is for the death or the living?

3. Is installation of this 5G a solution to coronavirus since it *must* be installed during coronavirus battle?

4. Can't we delayed the installation of the so important 5G for a while to focus our energy to save lives first?

5. Why are UK media ban from discussing 5G advantages and disadvantages of this *Must* installed 5G for everyone to formally debate it?
5G has been discussed for years now, were you living under a rock?
5G was implemented way before Coronavirus was discovered.
5G is not that different from 4G and 3G, the only difference is that it operates at an higher frequency. If humans shifted from 3G to 4G and nothing happened, what makes youthink moving from 4G to 5G would be a disaster?

For 5G to be truly dangerous to humans, it would have to operate at frequencies 20 to 50 times it's current capabilities. Even the x-rays that people get for broken bones, internal anatomy issues, cancer and so on takes a whole lot before they are considered harmful and those operate at frequencies known as ultraviolet.

Simply we have:
Radar Rays ---Non harmful
Infared Rays- Not harmful unless it is concentrated in a laser form
Ultraviolet Rays- Only harmful with excess or prolonged exposure
Gamma Rays- DANGER!

Western media has made everything non_western evil. We
need to sit down and look at it logically.
Nigeria has been struggling to fight BH for decade, US has
never shown any genuine support, infact, at a time they're
were technically supporting BH by blocking every
opportunity
to access weapons. Whereas, the same US has been
building sophisticated millitary bases all over Africa with
several billions of dollars even all over islands in Africa. In
a
continent struggling to provide as basic thing as clean
water,
road, edu, etc. In term of infrastructural development, US
hasnt built anything tangible anywhere in Africa despite her
big economy and influence.
On the other hand, China is building projects across Africa
from electricity to train to Airport, roads, scholarships to
Africans, etc even with their own money. Let's say we can't
pay and they take over them, who would still be using
those
infrastructure, Chinese? At least they brought them here, so
if we can't pay back and they take over them these things
would still be in use by Africans and improve quality of life,
just like every private business.
US/Trump that everyone is supporting call Africans all kinds
to unprintable names, visa ban, reporting weak sides of
African nations and continuously ridiculing everything we
do.
The list is long. China hasnt done any of these yet, western
media still find their ways into the hearts of Africans to
hate
Chinese. Sadly, enough some fake pastors joined this
brainwashed citizens.
Look at China, how many times have they tumbled African
govt? How many nations have China invaded in Africa?
How
many times has Chinese embassy criticize our local affairs?
Etc
New York started have underground train in 1809, that's
200yrs, they never extended such to Africa. China started
booming just 20yrs ago and they've extended everything
technology they have to us, that have improved our lives;
From phones, train, Good Airport, Naval ship, Telecom,
Roads, scholarships, etc
Africans must sitdown and think. China is not your enemy
Sorry to say but you're delusional. US has never shown any genuine interest in defeating Boko Haram? Is it their job to make your country safe? Ask your leaders from 2007 till now how much they've collected from the USA in terms of aides, ask them how much they collected from the U.N as well. When will you hold your leaders accountable instead of looking for the messiah abroad?

Sir, this is not true. Evacuation is for willing Americans and so the willing ones have to bear the cost. Only those who for some reasons cannot foot the bills are assisted, which is still paid back over a pre-agreed period of time.
Okay I think we are saying almost the same thing, the government foots the bills initially for anyone that needs assistance, the money gets paid back overtime just like a student loan here but the cost is usually deductible on tax returns so basically it's free money. My dad used the assistance once on a trip to Japan so Iknow fully well how it works. Furthermore the stimulus package just passed means the cost is basically free as every American making less than 77,000 dollars a year gets a check of $1200.

You must not condemn everything!

The United States also told its citizens who are willing to be evacuated from Nigeria to be ready to foot the bills. So it's not out of place for the government to ask Nigerians abroad to be ready to bear the cost if they are willing to come back to the country.

My only problem is if this wouldn't skyrocket the number of COVID-19 cases in Nigeria. It might be disastrous if our health care system is ever overwhelmed.

Indeed, I have a mixed feeling about this move by the government.
Bullshit.....Evacuation cost is coverd by the government, it is part of the stimulus package just passed by Congress and signed by Trump.
