Simplyleo:Poor basis by the government. No playing smart here for any good analyst. Transaction Volume can be assessed too. inflows and outflows over the last three months. unless this is all a lie and no money would be given. Again what about the unbanked.? |
donbogo:Sometimes people sit in their comforts and spell out what they can do and what they can't do in really desperate times. Now when they are faced themselves with a Desperate situation it becomes a different story. This fellow would definitely not risk his life in this period if not to pursue a legitimate livelihood. Now I am sad about the situation but it would be foolish to criticize him without providing a solution. I'ld rather shut up. God help us. |
Erediauwa:What exactly is not African Practice (didn't want to say culture ). Polygamy? Immorality ? Marrital Recklessness ? All these and more have been practiced in Africa behind the curtains of public discussions. The only thing that may not be our practice IS the ease with which these things are now being discussed in public unlike before. On that note How then are we better than the 'Westerners'? By continuing to hide these practices? |
CsRockefeller:Tunde Baiyewu(of lighthouse family) is NOT OBj's Son. Tunde's Mother Married OBj long after he became successful. It does make him a step son though. |
divinehand2003:On a light but salient note, it may concern him. Never forget that some of these guys have dual citizenships and as such are legal stakeholders too in the US. Who knows. |
To be fair though, NOI's own is not enough to count as 'history' since it just occurred once. The defense she put up was completely unnecessary though. Completely unnecessary. But hey she's clearly ahead of me. Who knows what she knows. |
XANDERBOY85:hahahaha! Igbos are resourceful. granted. their are many resourceful people from other tribes too. who didn't build his house through hard graft or personal efforts? The need to always 'show' how hard the Igbos work is sometimes unwarranted. they work for themselves I guess. |
XANDERBOY85:So Igbos don't control their political economy currently ? what constitutes control of political economy? being the President? It's funny how the Igbos are everywhere in Nigeria (typically for economic reasons which is ok) but then talk about how they are held back by 'intangible' forces. One even says he expects cities like Owerri to compete with New york city in the next 10 yrs. in terms of built environment. There's no need to say these. I will certainly be more impressed if you do it though. But it seems these comments are more of prestige games than substance. God help us. |
itsme01:I agree it was packaged by FIRS. the question is Under whose tenure was it(Financial bill 2019) packaged. Fowler or Nami? This also assumes that ALL policy deliberations put forward by all government agencies are approved unquestionably by the President. True. US standard of education is far better than ours. the question is, Are ALL US students better than ALL Nigerian students after school— Are all American graduates in your field better than you? |
itsme01:I don't know about the inner workings of Fowler's tenure at the FIRS but some of your accusations are not true. e.g. No single person bar the President including the can FIRS boss can single handedly increase VAT rate in the country as you've accused Nami. The bill that sought to increase VAT rate amongst other tax issues was developed under Fowler's leadership. if Nami was appointed in Dec 2019 and the bill increasing VAT is called Finance bill 2019, How then did he architect it? I don't hold forte for any Nigerian leader but departing from comparing both leaders based on personal merits on the job and jumping to use of 'status' of school attended is a very poor proxy. Assuming you schooled here in Nigeria, I suppose you do not think your contemporaries in the US(in your field) are all better than you merely by schooling in the US— even though the standard of education is better there generally. N.B. I am not a northerner. In fact, I am even a Southerner. |
obojememe:First time as a bachelor? That's funny did you lose your wife or you were born exactly as old as you are? |
NwaEzefuNaMba:What he means is that there should be a thought beyond the immediate. For instance, instead of just satisfying themselves only a Hub for fish processing/Canning and allied applications could be considered. Now I am not criticizing them for not doing this because to be fair they MAY not be so knowledgeable or even resourced to do this but IF they do the Value added would make them so RICH they could lose their appetite for the same fish in no time. God help us. |
Fuckyoumod:Actually changing one's mind in the light of New Convincing knowledge/insight is a Courageous thing to do. Cheers. |
9jaRealist:Really ? Was that the initial intention or was this a pivot following the Outcry by the Members of the public/medical community. 2 days ago, a member of the Nigerian Embassy in china explained (in his rant) how COvid 19 patients in Nigeria (including foreigners— and with that Chinese) were cared for free of charge and equally (with other patients). What you're saying at least implies that there is at least a care gap amongst the Chinese patients (i.e. Not treated/not treated effectively) which their Medical team came in to fill— and for which the Nigerian medical community [that] has successfully seen some discharges is unable to meet. I cannot know the true intentions/story playing out though BUT the CCP is certainly NOT a credible entity. |
Bigflamie:Hahahahaha. They are the richest in the Country? True. Ebonyi is also not on the list. Really.? I am not even a northerner and I too am not totally assured of the data however, but I do know that: 1, There is a widespread preexisting IDP situation in at least > 5 LGAs in the north. That's an issue. 2, Even here on Nairaland people (Many people) have at different times said that the North are the poorest in Nigeria, giving birth irresponsibly and lagging in education and healthcare. 3, Population and Voting records are Consistent with the above assertions (even though they are contestable, I too doubt some records). Most people here have said it themselves that the North are the people 'holding us back' (In a number of ramifications) and some of us saw reason with them. Some even boasted that their region was more self sufficient than the rest of Nigeria, we didn't argue with them. I don't keep the numbers and have never been totally confident with government numbers but this new zeal of doubting how poor the North is when we have already 'agreed' that they are the poorest is quite interesting. |
southniyikaye:I thought you guys (or sorry if you aren't one of them) told us that We blacks are 'immune' or at least disproportionately insusceptible to having the Virus. Every situation must not be brought into a me vs you fight (some situation are though). But this isn't. May God help us all |
RaptObserver:I am not a lawyer at all but isn't it too late? There are statutes of limitations to taking legal actions. '89 is a long time ago. And it's hard to defend any politician. It'll be a wasted effort if he wasn't a 'saint'. |
gypsey:True. I have always said I am up for expertise. But it seems the experts are the only individuals allowed to make unquestioned mistakes at times. Almost like they have the right to have people die in their care. |
sremmlyf:As VIPs ? Well not during this COVID 19 situation. Some foreigners (particularly Chinese) were treated with disdain in Nigeria due to fears— by the citizens (some) though, Not the government. Not surprising though, the C_C_P has been known to be draconian. |
Totally the Church's decision which I respect but I am certainly NOT in favour of giving Money to the Government though. Hoping I have a better understanding about why people probably wiser than me do that. I really would love to know. |
Oh Warri! Boys ! Boys! When do boys eventually become men in Warri. Hahaha. |
fykes:Wike, The Executive Governor himself benefitted from "Federal Might" when he was a Minister before he resigned to seek Office. And then the FG. Was at logger heads with the Governor of the state. Now that he is at the receiving end of this drama called politics he is now a Victim ? Hahahahaha! These guys are artistes. By the way I support/Voted none of these feuding parties. But he definitely is not a victim of "federal might". |
Iyiataata92:Correct. We say the same thing. |
Pusyiter:It does matter whether it happened though. in this era of "fake" news, being humble requires that when we make mistakes as we've seen above, we should very readily correct those mistakes openly with the same verve in which the mistake was made. Great woman nevertheless. funny enough there's no one who wouldn't "criticize" government in Nigeria, even those who were there. I really wonder who will first own up to having done bad in Nigerian history. It's probably always that guy. |
Iyiataata92:That's not what he means. The word "Average" means Measure of central tendency i.e. typicality or representative number. Average does not just mean MEAN as many of us tend to think. it can also mean MEDIAN or MODE. MODE refers to the observation/data with the highest frequency. This is exactly what people mean when they say "The Average Nigerian is corrupt" What this means is, if say there are only 50 Nigerians (population) and you assess each person's behaviours as categorical variables e.g. good,bad,good,bad,bad,bad,bad,good......... you get the point. you would find that the MODE (frequently occurring) variable is bad. That's why the average (Mode) Nigerian is bad. So back to the Op, Average there meant that at least 2 times a day was the most frequent occurrence of his habits daily. i.e. the times he did it twice trumped the times he did it any other number of times. Not MEAN as you've implied. |
akaahs:If NOT for the poor state of education in Nigeria an SSCE holder is not uneducated. Matter of fact by the time most of us leave secondary school, our spoken and written communication is pretty much set. It's very much harder to change these in your yrs in higher institution than it is to have formed it back in sec. School. |
olasaad:The virus is said to be exterminable by disinfectants. The Virus is also though to be able to last on objects for a period of a few hrs to a few days max. Now sterilizing the equipments after this scourge is a No brainer for GTbank. I hope so. Don't take my word for it...read here https://www.who.int/news-room/q-a-detail/q-a-coronaviruses |
iammo:Why? I am totally against going against Constituted authority but true MOG don't have to shut up for scientist to get busy. Both can work together (apart: distancing). The government's delay, in part, led us here. And by the way, Pastors can be scientist too. And virtually all the dead are dieing in the hands of "scientist" too— and that doesn't take from our respect for the good scientists. |
I hope these decisions are research based. But I know my Nigeria. I doubt it. Why waste our time further. The average Nigerian is already behind in the global scheme of things. He struggles to even catch up after graduation. Some policy changes I expected them to look into are; Reducing University programmes to 3 yrs - for 4 yr programmes and 4 yrs for 5 yr programmes. Increase course variety for secondary school students . The core courses that is. This allows the average student to have a firm foundation in the sciences & arts /socials before he/she decides IN the university. Making the choice as an SS1 student may be removed from the reality the child experiences years later. Time should not be wasted. There are those who are very brilliant amongst us. We shouldn't hold them back. They'll solve many of our problems in future. |
Onu himself is a brilliant Engineer. Sound guy. Politics just gobbled him up. Or maybe that's his calling. One can't help but wonder the many other endeavors that would have benefited from his talent. God help us. |
Duru9:Really ? The role is a Thankless role. One will have to be a Dr Evil to expect a time like this where they can "cash out". I doubt anyone with the aim to cash out would be there. Take Anthony Fauci of the USA. A 70 yr old man with barely 4-5 he sleep in the last few weeks. Even for the extremely corrupt and attention seeking, that's clearly not a fanciful job. God strengthen them. |

WHO said alot of things when this virus came out, first they said it isn't a pandemic but eventually they declared a pandemic. They would say they didn't have all the datas about the virus at the time, that the virus is a new virus. simple
