GeneralPula:Sorry to ask but how else could we reason that statement. Cause I too thought the same way. If I say that the first victim has already been infected from outside the state — well, true but then it makes no sense to then tie the disease to 5G network since the same outcome (Imfecting humans) can be achieved more cheaply. |
miniziter:He is supposedly from Osun state Where the disease is sadly rife. |
MERCHANDISER:China has improved our lives ? True it may seem from the surface. I kid you not. The overwhelming majority of technologies underlying the products you have just mentioned are "Western" developed. Think Tecno/infinix —well there's Android that gave them a free platform to run on. Think cheap laptops and tablets — Well Microsoft gave them an optimized platform too. America practically created the fintech industry we now enjoy the world over. Let's stop this partial hypocrisy. The west and especially the USA are not perfect. Nobody is. Every Nation...Every Nation...acts first of all in it's best interests, whatever those interests are. The Chinese are not the first asian country to arrive at economic success, they wouldn't be the last. Japan has recorded economic success akin if not better than Western Europe since the 70s until recently. The bottom 200m/300m (my guestimate) Chinese(population) are probably as poor as the poorest in Nigeria. The Chinese people may be nice BUT the CCP is demonstrably evil. Every government in the West has a visible opposition and can lose power (as we have seen). The CCP is Almighty in china. It is never wrong. Or at least never admits it. Chinese billionaires are an interesting case. The government reins in on you as you become more powerful/successful to let them know they must "bow" to the CCP. In the 1940s when Forrest Mars came up with an innovative approach to parboiling rice for a longer shelf life — and patented the idea, the US Government "tried" to get him to share this secret with his competitors to aid troops during the world war. He refused (the government never forced him). This is almost impossible even in Modern china. The CCP almost "owns" you and can use you as it deems fit (often). By the way Chinese companies did NOT become successful 'just' 20 yrs ago. A number of Chinese behemoths including Lenovo, Sany, haier, Zte & Huawei have their roots in the 70s and 80s. The West is not perfect. No one is. But America is an asset to the world. It is the best humanity has on offer in the history of the World. |
At this point i'll rather be circumspect about China. Not saying they are bad. But the _ _ P can be a terrible lot. |
abumeinben:Schneider electric is not buying any DISCO Currently. No Disco is as cheap as N2.2 bn even for a bribe that's a steal. All DISCOs are owned by local companies with foreign technical partners (not owners). The Federal government still has a sizable stake in them DISCOs. My own question to us Nigerians is, I suppose some of us have been clamouring for "Taxing Churches". isn't it the same government that gets those tax money, if we are comfortable having the government take those taxes why then are we NOT okay with the Fed taking these "little" aids. |
Saturday, 2 days ago was 28th not 29th March 2020. |
kingsleybrave:There are some who are reckless. But many can't save because The cost of living hardly allows (e.g. Lagos). |
viccipedia:True. They are often well to do and ordered. I didn't know they were this many though. They are definitely (at least some) coming back. |
Perfecttouchade:Nice gesture but that money would sadly go almost no where if distributed to poor Nigerians. Let examine a very optimistic scenario: 200m Nigerians (say 20/25 % are needy/desirous of this package) That gives -40-50m* Total donations thus far: 45bn(Not up to but again we are being very optimistic right?). N 45bn/40m people* = N1,125. Less bank charges (I suppose you can't distribute such amount of money without the banking infrastructure). = 1125-25= N1,100. To run with. Well it's something. But it's clearly not effective. *Assuming all Indigent Nigerians have Bank accounts which is not true, thus creating an avenue for middle men 'sharers' at the grassroot levels. Again, you know how that usually ends. |
Sodiquinone:It's not about being mumu or not. Tension is palpable in virtually all countries now. Discernable foreigners are picked on and treated poorly due to skepticism by many locals. Most people are better off in their countries, probably. Not sensible but...we Humans aren't at times |
StrikeBack:Same mistake. You can't judge the credibility of a concept by it's abuse. Have we practiced the "religion" as instructed by God? Even for the credible men of God, have we obeyed whole heartedly? Again it's like saying that some of the Richest people in Africa have their abodes in Lagos, why the do we have starving Lagosians? This is an unprecedented situation, every one is just winging it at the days go by while adopting preventive measures. God help us. |

Professorcplus:Ok but It's fair to be very Coherent with our arguments too. Tithes are (most times) 10% of individual NET income. Some give a bit more. Companies (Not being humans) don't usually pay tithes. From the above,it's clear that taxes paid (which is on A larger base(taxable income) by these tithe payers are higher. Effective tax rate in Nigeria is 7-24% of taxable income depending on your income band. And So tithes paid across Nigeria certainly falls short of taxes paid by Nigerians by far.... God help us. |
obowo69:Those who are appointed to lead Electoral Commissions are NOT (at least officially) politicians |
Investments in Education is not Only for pecuniary gains. Consequently, It's hard to quantify the non monetary benefits it brings. Again, if you're concerned about the financial returns of this investment, consider whether: You're coming back upon completion. You'll seek jobs in Europe as a researcher/Academic. The pay data for these roles is certainly available on the internet. Nigerian academicians are relatively poorly paid though (for one who'll know he had 16m before studying). There's a second route though. Consider research interests/topics in areas you've identified as Commercially rewarding and which fit you passions as an individual with the view of knocking out a product/Service from such an endeavor. You should read the stories of ; Min H. Kao/Gary Burell (Garmin). Sergey brin/ Larry Page. Nikolai Durov. James Goodnight. Dr soon shiong. People who have spun academic interests into wildly profitable products. It wouldn't be easy though. |
Tetrahedron:Easily. Just be online more often than being asleep. Most of us would sleep for 1/4th of our lifetime in years. Assuming we sleep for 6 hrs a day. Perhaps 8 hrs before 18 yrs for most people. A 40 yr old would have slept for roughly 7/8 yrs. In this virtual age most are online longer than they are even asleep daily. For a moderator of this scale of a platform it is not hard to reach 3 years. If you slept for 6 hrs daily in 2019. You actually slept for 2160 hrs, the whole year. Exactly 25 % of the year. Most of us actually slept more than that. Life's interesting. If you're going to live to 85 yrs, You'll live for about 31000 days. If you're already 30 then you've lived 11000 days already and have above 20000 days left. If you'll sleep for 6hrs averagely all those days you'll have an awake lifetime left of about 15000 days. (Most wouldn't sleep that short) i.e. about 360 000 hrs left. Wow. That should give one a renewed sense of urgency. |
ayoelegs:Nice. If you don't mind my asking, do you know about tuition in Russia (Msc). Programmes, say at St Petersburg University. |
Miner13:Officially, we don't have more confirmed cases than ghana. But who says it can't get worse quickly. God help us. |
ntyce:I am all for obeying Constituted authority but... Are you talking about the same government that failed to tighten immigration and Travellers health check at the Airports when the Pandemic initially proved severe? they delayed. Had that been done, we wouldn't be (at worst) where we are now. At this point it is Good help us. I see people still going to work, Markets and social spots/Malls(for shopping). |
ebig21:Hahaha! Not really. To Normalize you argument , identify only teams both of them have played with and rerun your analysis. Not that I am telling you to do this though. I am just saying that that would reflect the true picture. |
Iyiataata92:Really? Is there any state in Nigeria where the ridiculous is impossible? Sad situation BTW. |
9jaRealist:True. However, let me assure you that there are a lot of sickos out there in the world. There are more than a few stories of leaders(perhaps, rulers) who were killed due to their simplicity/ease of reach. Also there is virtually nothing like "peace time" in Nigeria where info availability (of your movement) could be the difference between a safe journey and a botched kidnap attempt in many cities (For high profile Nigerians). You'll know this when you become "that" high profile. There are a lotta "sickos" out there — Red (Angry bird). |
Mateen1000:Sure. It could be better, but it certainly is not "trash". For most Nigerian (graduates) today, the [Affordable] Public University (albeit subpar) system was the springboard to where they are today. Including some who went on to achieve great feats globally. Poor=/= Trash. |
abumeinben:How so? I mean. This is a really sad situation but wouldn't her family be Negatively affected/saddened of she had one? |
GreatResearcher:Hahahahaha! I do get your point. Even though we may not agree but One stands a greater chance of ill health or death drinking the excreta of animals than by living on 90 % of his/her earnings. The difference in choice is clear no matter your stance on tithing. |
Esseite:I don't know where the number came from but rest assured that the 'original' hardback copies of good books sold internationally can reach up to $100. Rarer books could go for much more. Perharps that valuation also include the library house/furniture. Most Nigerians may not afford to buy original 'hardback' Mc graw hill books, some of which may veer into the 40k naira range. but they exist. |
Cogs:How is he an object of shame? |
NaijaRoyalty:I didn't know that was still the case too. The Media is indeed a powerful object (deserving the attention of the CIC). |
donbachi:Not really though. If her ego is low (i.e. doesn't feel too shameful) she has been literally rescued. Assuming this happened before the wedding date. God help us. |
linearity:This is a really sad situation. By the way, Not everything seemingly disagreeable comes from the North. Consider for instance that the late Renowed Nigerian Novelist, Buchi Emecheta Married at only 16 yrs... By the way she is not from the North. I believe that she was also said to have been know her husband 3-5 yrs earlier. I am saying this is right? NO. I am saying almost all cultures have perpetuated borderline "young" marriages. It should not be ascribed to one alone. By the way, I am NOT a northerner. |
Gerrard59:True. I didn't say he would not be. I just said don't assuredly count your chicks before they are hatched. Tech companies are valuable but they are still a dime a dozen. Execution is key. There are a number of macro economic variables at play in valuation between developing countries like Nigeria and developed tech havens like the US. In case you haven't noticed, in Developing counties like Nigeria the Companies with the highest Market capitalizations are not new age IT companies. They are companies in traditional Industries like Telecoms, Utilities, Manufacturing, Infrastructure etc. You should correct me if I am wrong. The payments platform space is already crowded. Perhaps in the next 5-7 yrs, the winners would emerge (assuming these firms have the deep funding pockets to whether the storms). Meanwhile we still waiting for Jumia to turn profitable. I hope I am wrong though and he does prosper. Tech is generally a "high confidence" industry. By the way there is nothing wrong with growing wealth slowly steadily over a period as is common in agric versus 3-5 yrs in tech. Cargill, Louis Dreyfuss, Mars inc. Or even Chobani are good examples of agricultural dynasties and all 4 are not on the stock exchange. As Chamath palihapitiya said - " So in the same ease in which you can start a company today to disrupt an incumbent, you have to also realize that somebody will do that to you as well just as easily. So if you’re not just going to get on top but stay on top, that will require a real prepared mind across many companies." |
