Politics › Re: 'We Will Resist Any Attempt To Illegally Impeach Saraki' – Senator Gyunka by bixton(m): 9:11pm On Aug 15, 2018 |
Trendvoice: A Federal lawmaker, Sen. Philip Gyunka, on Wednesday in Lafia, said that any plot to illegally impeach the President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, will be strongly resisted.
Gyunka, representing Nasarawa North, said this at a rally to mark his official declaration to run for Nasarawa State governorship election.
Gyunka, who expressed concern over the role played by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Adams Oshiomhole in the matter, said the position of the Constitution on who should be President of the Senate was clear.
According to him, unlike majority and minority leadership, which are from majority and minority parties, a lawmaker can be president of the senate irrespective of party affiliation.
“Besides that, there are conditions for impeachment should lawmakers be dissatisfied with whoever they chose to lead them.
“The law is clear on this. If two third majorities say they do not want him, he will be removed.
“But for Oshiomhole to keep threatening that Saraki must be impeached when he is not a lawmaker, beats my imagination.
“It is obvious from all his threats that there might be plans to do something unlawful, which we will resist vehemently.
“It beats my imagination that Nigeria, a country that should play the big brother when it comes to respect for the rule of law would be disgracing itself before the international community with this kind of development.”
He pointed out that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers were already keeping vigil to stop any of such moves.
“We are keeping watch on their plans.
“If they want the Senate President removed, which is impossible they must have two third majorities.
“They have been attempting and failing. I know they will still make attempts but they will not succeed because I know Nigerians will not allow them to make mockery of the nation’s democracy.
“If you hear a lawmaker speaking, he is speaking the minds of thousands of people.
“How then should someone, who was appointed and has neither gone to the rural areas to feel the pulse of the people, nor held town hall meeting be insisting that a man that was duly chosen by of his colleagues be removed at all course.
“Oshiomhole should be educated that this is not unionism. This is an issue that has to do with the Constitution and we will not allow him to violate it,” he said.
On his ambition to run for the governorship election of the state, Gyunka said it was borne out of passion to bring the state out of the woods.
He said it was disheartening that despite huge human and mineral resources among other potentials, the state had not been able to meet the needs of the people.
He called on Nigerians take advantage of the forthcoming general elections to vote for people that have their interests at heart.
He urged them to go beyond expressing their grievances, to getting their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) before the expiration date, to vote for people that would meet their needs and aspirations.
According to him, all the crises we are facing as a nation today is because we keep voting in the wrong persons.
The Nasarawa State PDP Chairman, Mr Francis Orugu, while wishing Gyunka the best in his political ambition, decried the crisis in the national assembly.
He expressed concern at the manner in which the APC national chairman was piloting the affairs of the party.
According to him, a country that is going through so many challenges, particularly in the buildup to the 2019 general elections does not require further tension.
“As leaders, we should not overheat the polity because people are already living in fear.
“I was also a legislator in the State House of Assembly; I know what leadership is all about.
“Unfortunately, Oshiomhole wants to direct that there must be a change of leadership because he is no longer comfortable with Saraki because he left APC.
Orugu called on Nigerians to rise to the occasion by speaking against any action that would subject the country to ridicule before the international community.

diordaves: Clay soil is not red mud or laterite. It is the clay used in making traditional clay pots. It expands when wet or contrast when dry. Clay soil is prevalent in riverine areas, river beds or dried out river. If you find your land clayey, excavate till you get to stable soil like red mud/laterite before laying your foundation. Ok. I thought you were referring to "filling/back filling of foundation/area around structure with clay soil. It's your next sentence that made mention of "clay soil on a foundation ", is a no no. Probably I don't grasp your use of English, you're now referring to erecting a building on clay soil. And these buildings you posted, do the down not form as a basement? |

diordaves: From my experience with Edo and Delta (Bendel), is either subsidence or differential settlement or both. Subsidence is caused when a building’s foundations sink because the soil is unstable. Contributory factors are clay soil, vegetation that draws water from the soil, and leaking drains or underground river. To find solution is to first understand the historical sub-structure of your land:
# was it previously used as a refuse dump site? #was the land flat or partially hilly or rocky in some part? # is the land close to the famous Benin Moat or erosion prone? # is the land clayey?
It is only when you can find the answer to why the land is unstable can a lasting solution be found. I can hazard a guess that if your land was not a former refuse dump, it may be that your foundation filling and back filling was done with clay soil. Clay soil on a foundation is a no no. No cosmetic work like arbitrary introduction of columns as has been suggested will do. From the limited pix you attached, any lasting solution must include foundation excavation in one form or the other. It may even mean foundation underpinning. This is excavating beyond the foundation to a stable soil to introducing beam(s) under the current foundation. Demolishing the entire building is not a good advice. Solution is readily available. Sir, Are you referring to clay soil as in "the red mud" we all know. If it is there's no construction document saying its use will result to foundation defect in buildings. There are more than 10 pix of buildings on NL where such is used and those who used it are on the forum with us. Please how does one introduce beam as you suggested in that buildings' foundation as it is now? |

I have heard about this but never thought much about it because it would be so difficult to find out especially with large money. Who has time to spot 10 fake notes in 100k? And not everybody is savvy in spotting a fake note. I read somewhere online months back where they said managers are in charge of this evil. The start the day by packaging it well in between notes. They inject over 1-2 million fake notes for the day for a large branch that handles over 50 million in daily withdrawal. calculate 1 - 2 million fake notes for a day, x 27 days and x 12 months, = 325,000,000 - 650,000, 000 for yr. They share it among all staff. That's why you see so-called hungry bankers on under 300k salary building a 30 million house, finished in one yr. Criminals in suit I tell you! This fake notes syndrome done by bankers goes back to when most of us were in nursery school. So anyone still doing is taking the light train. Faith and hope. Though both compliment each other but you have to read the verses from the scriptures to get its individual meaning.
Faith is having a strong/firm belief/conviction about the positive occurrence/outcome of something present or future . Hope is a wish about anything to occur. Hope is not based on one's belief. It's completely probability based. |

I am neither PDP nor APC but Dave Umahi, (even though I did not like him because he's selfish and centers everything in his family) will win every where, including my own polling booth at Ukawu, where I'm in-charge. Dave Umahi constructs quality roads with concrete pavement and does not require you to lobby him to bring these road projects to your village. Dave is not sharing money but he's massively bulldozing every town and village as well as Abakaliki with powerful projects. It's only a fool and a hater of progress that will vote against Dave Umahi. If you celebrate that Sonni Ogbuoji defected, you're already drowning because the Governor comes from same Senatorial District as Sonni Ogbuoji. The Governor controls 3 LGA (Onicha/Ohaozara/Ivo) and we're united in voting him. Ogbuoji comes from Afikpo South. And Afikpo North man will never vote Afikpo South man, in preference. And what if North produces a Senatorial candidate in PDP? That PDP candidate will coast with his side and Governor's side. Please, tell Oshiomohle that he came here to waste his time. And to my brother Professor Ben Odoh, I liked it that you left Dave's government as SSG for your integrity but i had expected that you'd wait patiently till 2023 when we expect Ndi Ezza to spring up. Nonetheless, I wish you well! The best defection, long expected, is Chief Ogbaga. He should slug it out with Dr. Sam Egwu. Ogbaga controls 3 LGA, Egwu controls 1, although Egwu is a nice man. I wish you all success. But Dave will continue to change more of the faces of Ebonyi state, especially Ukawu water scheme, Abaomege-Ukawu F113 road; Nwankwo-Ugo market- Umuka Okposi road. There's actually nothing one can do about differential settlement other than building your structure the right way. Yes, there are short cuts but know where to apply them, where not to and when you have to if it's necessary.
As a general rule for me irrespective of soil type if any site i'm handling is along a road that may get heavy traffic, I use the standard 6" blinding and my own mix ratio.
I do a 4" if it's off entirely. |
Properties › Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by bixton(m): 7:55am On Aug 05, 2018 |
Cracks on walls are generally caused by lateral displacement/differential settlement . It's also caused by the nature of your blocks as against mortar type used. Always make sure you do a proper blinding with the right concrete mix and thickness and ensure its firm before setting blocks on it. Cracks can appear on any section of a wall.
Lintel chaining or linking has nothing to do with mitigating walls from cracking.
I have seen a chained lintel cracked from top to bottom completely. I have seen a wall with ground/grade beam /raft with crack as well. I have seen a fence wall built on raft with cracks too. |
