As you progress in this field we come across all manners of challenges, that it is only experience and sound theory background can bail you out. I manage a project recently and Messrs Chekitaut is the procurement contractor, we came across a funny scenario. An old building was a demolished before we commence the new project. Very solid and firm site with appreciable bearing capacity from soil test so we adopted pad footing ( there was raft design and pad footing, cost analysis showed that the pad is cheaper). Along the line during excavation we discover towards the back so many abandoned pit latrines and septic tanks (already decomposed). The fear here was that the decomposition would still continues over years and there by creating a void underneath the foundation, automatically the structure would fail due to undermining.
well, the best thing we taught of was to find a way to take the footing of foundation far beyond the depth of any of the latrines or septic tank. Another challenge was that the site is very tight it was not just easy for us to evacuate the septic tank and latrines and more so we wouldn't know how many of such would be around there, we could only observe 2 or 3.
We came up with option of introducing piles along the grid line where we have that challenge (and that was the last grid) 5 piles was constructed 300 diameter @ 9 meter, 1 meter cube pile caps and 600mm connecting beam all along the 9meter width of the build, then 3 grade beam to connect to the columns from the pad footing of the next g
rid making it to be monolithic.

Now what can we called this kind of foundation: Pad and pile combo.
If I am permitted I will try upload some pucs for further explanations.

I don't think the state owns a lab except the state university.
If I'm not mistaken there are about 3 labs such tests are carried out if your go through man/woman is a staff of urp.
Just confirm the authenticity of the lab where its done and the geo-technician who signed/stamped the report..

Lol, this country! God knows if I become president, at least 5000 people will see jail and many people will die by hanging for their past crimes. We will carry out thorough investigation from 1960 till date, set up a special court for corruption and get rid of all the old politicians and cabals by force. Then we need to sensitive Nigerians, they need to know that only us can build our country and no one will build it for us. Train some new set of intelligent Police guys, disarm the present police and use them for something else just to keep them employed. Focus on production and invest real big on technology. Offer ministerial jobs to skilled professionals only and monitor them big time to end corruption. Bring Nigerian professionals from all over the world to come help fix this gaddamn country.

It's not that hard to lead a country, but we have unwilling and dumb leaders.

It will only happen if you lay the corruption file to the international community to investigate and procescute those found wanting.

My civil/structural engineer was of the opinion that i we can have PAD FOUNDATION with Chained underground beam with one board, Continue with 9" block work to 0.9m and then finalize with one board of chained beam before the slab (german floor is casted)

The building involve here is a 5 bedroom duplex.

Please i need opinions on this based on experience.

Your Civil/Structural Engineer is in order.
In the instance where raft is highly recommended , I'd prefer you do a 2 board grade/ground beam, top with 9" blocks and cap with one board chained beam (plinth). You can as well fill your block holes with concrete.

I'm in a dilemma, let me start like this, when i and my husband first got married we did a joint business that fetched us a huge amount of money, the aim was to build a house, when we got the money, he decided to use his' for his parents (i had no problem with that) then mine for what we wanted to use it for

Two weeks ago we had a major misunderstanding, it was soo intense to the extent that he told me to park out of the house, in the heat of things i told him that cannot be possible that the house is in my name, he was shocked, saying it is impossible we built it together that it's in his name, i had to remind him what happened then, he was furious saying it was wrong of me to use my name, that he cant believe he has been staying in a house that does not belong to him, he told his family what i did claming victim, then he packed out saying he wont come home till i change the name to his full name, i begged him to no avail, i dont even know how to tell my people, imagine if it was in his name, i and the kids would have been out of the house by now, he has requested for transfer from his office to another state cos of this, who does that?? He cant expect me to change it to his name.

Pls i need other advise to go about this, he is a good man but he feels his ego has been bruised, i need other options.

There is no such thing as Mr & Mrs owning any property in law.

I noticed my girl sent her nude to him and they were having sex chat, so I acted like I didn’t see anything and I invited her to my house the next day and tell her what I saw, then she started crying, immediately I gave her 3 hot slap and asked her to leave my apartment but she wouldn’t leave but kept crying on the floor and said she’s ready to swear with death if such ever happened again, that she was just stupid.

Well I dragged her out of my house, and since then all her family from different places have been calling me pleading on her behalf except her Mom and Dad which she can’t tell about it. I noticed she has changed her phone number and delete her Facebook account after what happened, but I told her it’s already late when her aunty called me...

Honestly I still love her, because she’s the only girl I ever fell for but won’t I look stupid if I accept all the pleading and continue with her? And can such girl make a good wife? You made a mistake not to know her and about her true self. Civil Engineer/structural engineer does Structural analysis and Structural design

Builder executes steps in building the structure

Let me open your submissions but sometimes the words we use are fambiguous.

A contractor can be any body but its rightly streamlined to be a business person offering services to make profit.
You limited the work of a civil engineer to appear like he pushes paper.

The carpenter, iron bender, mason, electrician, are builders.

yeah its actually a twin duplex, but 1 side of the twin would be 2units 2br apartments, 1 up.. 1 down.
i hate the sight of tank stands, i am still thinking of how am gonna ide the tanks.
the idea i have is to have a recessed/deep flat roof, like in the picture above and plave the tanks there, so that they will be barely visible from the ground, the only draw back to this is that the gate house cum tank stand will now tower far abobe the main building,

the other option am toying with is to place 2 tanks on the flat roof of the main building, and now have the other 2 tanks on the roof of the sec man house, being that the 2 tanks there would be serving the ground floor apartment and the gatehouse, it doesnt need to be so high again, so being on the roof of the gate house would be ok, and the gate house can then be only ground floor

Since you don't like tank stands, your architect/engineer can incorporate 2 separate slabs on the main building where you can place your tank(s) and the positioning should be in a way where you can put a roof over it so it flows with the building.

Putting a tank on the security house will look a bit odd.

so for of a building project, at the beginning stage which of the options is better, and why. 3br apts x 3 on 1 plot of land

1. buy a 20ft shipping container, [cost btw 150k to 250k], and store your cement+other building accesories inside, this is in addition to the having a small batcher house where a few workers may sleep over.

2. construct the gate/security house first, and let it serve as your store room, while construction is going on

3rdly, am thinking of having separate water tanks for each of the 3 apartments, with a 4th one being for general purpose, washi g cars, security man use etc, and i intend to mount the tanks on top of the security house, what are the possible pros and cons of this plan?

Guess the structure is going to be a double storey.
1....You can build 2 separate batcher 12x12 for cement/material and the other for workers to sleep.
2....You can possibly put 2 tanks on the structure or build a separate tank stand and put 3 tanks on it to serve the apartments inclusive of the security house.

I'm too emotionally drained to make sound judgement so I need your contribution on this issue.

I found out recently that my gf has been living a secret life online. My findings suggest that she may be cheating on me... Why? She's been communicating with an ex that practically broke her heart in the past...

She's also frequently communicating with another guy on Facebook who has repeatedly called her my love, honey, sweetheart and other romantic pet names and she has reciprocated most times.... At a point, the guy said he was naked and waiting for her at home... And she said she's coming... I guess they took the conversation offline...

She's also been chatting with several other guys... the ones I saw on FB indicate they're either asking her out or she's outrightly flirting with them...

On WhatsApp, only God knows the content and direction of her chat with other guys...

The painful part is I found out she's been having this online/offline double life by accident... That's a story for another day...

When I confronted her with my findings, she's been claiming she has nothing with any of the guys and that I should forgive her for hiding her online life from me...

I feel betrayed... I doubt if she'll ever change... I just want to move on...

What should I do?

Very few guys get to date the real good gals.
Forget what every one here is saying because at one point in time or another every a guy have been a victim of such.

Just move on with your life and give her some breathing space.

This post is directed to the matured minds in the house.

I've dated this lady for close to a year now and I have the intention of having her as my wife because of my love for her. She's got good qualities, cooks well, supportive in a little way but temperamental and easily provoked.

But there is this challenge I'm having with her, she puts up surly attitude and would always keep to herself whenever I correct her, and she won't talk to me for as long as we stay together, call or try to get in touch while away. This might last for as many days not until I come out to calm her down. Over times shes been doing this and the only way I've had to let things be normal is for me to talk to her again and beg her not to be angry. But I'm feeling I'm loosing my worth. This is someone that never admits she's at fault, talk less of apologizing. On several note I have had to take blame for her errors even when I'm not at fault just to make sure we're fine.

A recent development was that she came for holiday and was using the rest room within my apartment, I was passing by and asked her to close the door, she murmured, closed the door and she hasn't been talking to me since then and even when I do she'll answer reluctantly for like five days now. I am tired of living under same roof with someone that never feel anything keeping malice and I want her to realize her mistakes and apologize, but she won't, she'll rather stay back in the room, and whenever I go to the room, she be making avoiding moves.

I watched her closely to observe if she's into someone else but I haven't got any traces of that.

I have decided not to call her to terms again not minding if it costs a break up, but then am thinking I might be taking things way far.

Pls How best can I handle this? I really do love her tho and I am afraid of loosing her but I am loosing my worth and this has made her not have regards for me.

I thought d op was referring to suspended slab & not german floor....Going by the number of days stated for concrete to attain max. strength, i think it is wrong...

Moreover, building a storey building in 30 days can only be possible in Nigeria when precast concrete is used...& We know that isn't the case in this instance...

Probably u can give a rough breakdown on how u intend to achieve insitu concrete for a storey building within 30days...So we can learn sir.
