PoliticsRe: Tinubu Prioritizes Inclusive, Swift Economic Recovery - Ajuri Ngelale by coleon(m): 1:18am On Aug 12, 2023
Teenaira:
If you understand anything about economics, you will realize every step Tinubu has taken so far is in order. For instance, removing petrol subsidy is more beneficial to Nigeria as a country than living it but it will for the time being result in petroleum product price increases as a result of general global increases in petroleum product prices and the depreciation in value of the Naira.

Also, floating the exchange rate is a very good policy. A few privileged people were buying dollar @ N450 before while the larger populace buy at N750 before the coming of Tinubu. This is quite unhealthy for the country. However, there is an abnormal demand for foreign exchange presently which has led to the continuous depreciation of the Naira. What you should ask is what are Nigerians doing with the abnormal continuous increase in demand for forex ?
You are the dumb one here. If you don't understand anything about what's going on then it's better to shut up.
I will respond as a public finance guru but if you like keep following the political herd mentality na you sabi.
Firstly, the narrative that subsidy only benefits some few rich people is a myth the government is spinning to make you buy into her policy of subsidy removal because there's no few cabal anywhere that's benefitting from subsidy other than the middle class and the poor like you and i. That's why the government has not been able to provide just one name of this mirage cabal since time immemorial.Nnpc herself came out and said they have not paid any subsidy money to anybody since 2015 or so when buhari became president. What has been happening since then is that nnpc is the sole importer of petrol in Nigeria and they embarked on this crude oil for refined products swap deal that once petrol is imported through crude swap it would be distributed to petrol marketers and that kept the fuel price at a controlled price, but that has an implication on the government's revenue because if the products being swapped for petrol were sold it will result into more revenue for the government to spend. The national and subnational government needs more money to spend which is why they all backed subsidy removal so that more revenue from crude oil sales will come in and they can share.
Now, government generating more revenue anywhere in the world is not a bad thing but in Nigeria it is. The moment subsidy was removed more money goes into the government purse but you as an average Nigerian pays a whole lot more while government everywhere legislooters, executheives, states, LGAs will have their pockets filled and will loot a whole lot more.
So you see why the subsidy removal is a loss for you and a plus to the government coffers!
Secondly, on the floating of the naira. I don't know what consultations Tinubu made that is being appraised by zombies like you. There's no economy in the world except the US that floats her currency to be driven by market forces of demand and supply. The US can afford to do that for obvious reasons because it's the currency of the world and all they will simply do is to reduce the volume or increase the volume to dictate the value of the USD, but a certain Tinubu who heads a country that produces nothing but imports everything decided to float the naira despite the obvious trade deficit. How on earth do you think the value will not be dwindling daily when it's obvious the demand far outweigh the supply.I for one and so are many others have been mopping up any dollar available since time immemorial because the naira is right now as useless as a tissue paper.
These two issues are what's responsible for the present state of the economy and sorry for you there's no better tomorrow anywhere if these policies are not reversed urgently. Fuel price will continue to rise while naira will be doing bonanza. You people just keep believing in false hope that it will get better when the fundamentals already shows it will be getting worse.
I thought Tinubu was smart before he became president but right now I think Buhari's IQ is even far better than his own in terms of how he's managing the economy.
Mind you, if you don't have anything useful thing to say in response and you tag me ipob because I said the obvious truth ofo lo ma SE because I'm a pure yorubaman.

When his attention was brought to the notice camera was still live, the senate President, Godwill Akpabio quickly withdraw his statement.

"A little token has been sent to your accounts by the clerk to enjoy your holiday" his statement.

He quietly rephrased it to be another issue entirely.

https://dailytrust.com/video-how-akpabio-mistakenly-exposed-senators-holiday-allowance/
I actually told one zombie on this forum who told me to bear the pain of subsidy removal so we can enjoy tomorrow that before that tomorrow almost all Nigerians will be dead from poverty.
There's no enjoyment tomorrow for any Nigerian instead it's more suffering an the earlier you know it the better for your sanity.
Removal of subsidy simply means more money in the government purse for executheives and legislooters to look and steal.
If you are a zombie and you quote me I will use all my piled up frustrations from this government to curse your generations unborn.

Am no supporters of BAT but this hardship was expected when there was no plan to continue paying subsidy of Petrol. If Atiku and Obi was elected, the same would have happened because Buhari did not make provision for subsidy till after June 2023.

Any right thinking person should know until we build or fix the old refineries, petroleum products cannot be affordable.

Tinubu can only be judge after 2024.
It's a lie you are a Tinubu supporter. If not you would have told yourself the honest truth that plans should be in place before subsidy removal.
What about the floating of the naira that made dollar almost 1000 now. It's also buhari that did that and obi and atiku told him to do that too.
You people keep dragging others into your druggies ineptitude.

This is the same man that is telling you to sacrifice in the name of subsidy removal yet not ready to cut down on the cost of governance while using political position to compensate his cronies and as usual his zombies have flooded this thread to normalize his ineptitude.
If I should hear anybody telling me to sacrifice I will swear for you. The sacrifice should actually be top bottom and not bottom up. The only thing we enjoy as common man was the subsidy yet that has been taken away to put more money in the hands of politicians.
It's just sickening to think that dollar is almost 1000 yet Tinubus cabinet is the biggest in the history of this country. I'm tired honestly and I just wish something should happen God.

aybabz101:
I dont know what the strike aims to achieve......coz the government cannot keep on subsidizing fuel. Their strike is technically to increase minimum wage which will only apply to the government workers and corporate workers with the vast population still the same...

this thing is simple....the government needs money to keep running which at the moment the government don't have, cos over 90% of their earnings is spent on debt servicing....... therefore, subsidy must go!

im also a citizen feeling the pain oooo......but the truth nothing any body can do at the moment....the country has been terribly ran by successive administrations and we are now feeling the results of poor management....

In fact, i believe the worst is yet to come...talking from economic facts and figures without emotions......
You must be very insensitive and shallow in thinking if you don't know what the government can do at this point.
The first point of call is for any sane government that wants followers to understand is to do a self audit and purge itself of wasteful cost of governance but your mumu government has not led by example. They have instead allocated 70bn to national assembly members while Tinubu is flying over 10 presidential fleets, many senators and his would be ministers are earning jumbo retirement packages as pensions etc.
It seems you like being a slave and wants other sane Nigerians to join you in being enslaved.
Have you asked yourself how you expect the masses to cope with the inflation going up by the day. Keep supporting your oppressors. They should return the subsidy if they don't know what to do.

So what do you propose?

If they give money to government to build road and he embezzle it, who do we hold to ransom?

Tinubu is not a military head of state. He cannot hold governor money and he spending it through the FG. It’s like many people get mental problem in Nigeria and they just talk without thinking.

That’s it’s why it’s called, Federal & State government.

Will Tinubu be the one to pay states salary, build state roads, do state palliatives, and etc. What is then the usefulness of governors if they cannot be trusted?
Which brings you back to the big question . To the extent that government at all levels cannot be trusted starting from Tinubu himself bring back subsidy that all Nigerians at least can feel the effect until the refineries are working cos nobody knows how your mumu palliatives will go. Subsidy is the only way we can feel the effect.

BusinessRe: Exchange Rate Post Biggest Ever Gain, Closing At ₦‎742/$1 On I&E Window by coleon(m): 11:40am On Jul 20, 2023
DomPerignon:
Normally I won't reply to ignorant posts like this but for sake that others will be infected with your brand of stupidity I must clarify certain issues you raised.

Firstly , this is the second time the naira has been allowed to float freely .

The first time was under IBB after the disaster known as Buhari had wrecked the economy .

Buhari hid under protectionism to hide the dwindling FX reserves which greeted his treason on our polity.

A simple check on FX reserves from CBN archives will show you a significant dip in FX holdings between December 1983 to January 1984.

As Buhari carried out his coup on our polity on behest of the then struggling Thatcher govt that was battling a recession, huge amounts of money was moved by Buhari to pay our creditors in London . This was a debt that was hanging from the senseless civil war which you guys instigated.

Shagari had insisted on debt rescheduling due to a slump in oil price and huge theft by the Obasanjo govt - notably, the missing oil money scandal by the Buhari headed NNPC.

Britain at this time was dead broke and was facing waves of coal and rail workers strike. This was when Baron Victor Rothschild as adviser to the Thatcher govt and head of MI6 instigated another coup in Nigeria. The first being your senseless coup of Jan 15, 1966 that turned Nigeria from zero debt to owing Jewish Banksters in London which Rothschild was a major creditor.

IBB was forced to float the naira in other to reopen the economy. The naira was fixed at #4 to a $1 and after its first trade closed at about #12. That's a whooping 300% devaluation and nothing compared to the current drop we are witnessing

By the time Abacha took over it was at above #20 to a dollar. Abacha will borrow some buharimonics for political reasons only and despite this, the naira was forced to crash to about #40 to a dollar on Obasanjo being sworn in. So between 1983 to 1999, the naira devalued by over 1000% despite all artificial attempts to prop it up through fixed pricing.

You must also understand that the naira is one of very few currencies that has never been traded internationally, thereby making it a non convertible currency outside it's soverign borders. You can only convert naira at Nigeria's land borders. Outside this, you will not see anyone willing to touch it.

You argument is based on continuing the failed system that only promotes a parallel market which insider traders are the only beneficiaries.

You know nothing.
See this mumu quoting history when I am telling you the reality on ground.
No history can save your ignorance and the ignoramus liking your post. The fundamentals about Naira devaluation now is basically a matter of demand and supply where the demand far outweigh the supply so any other irrelevant nonsense you have stated to sound knowledgeable is a waste of your time and data.
You cannot be telling someone in treasury what you know absolutely nothing about, you are just an ignoramus ode trying to sound woke for likes from ignoramus like you.
BusinessRe: Exchange Rate Post Biggest Ever Gain, Closing At ₦‎742/$1 On I&E Window by coleon(m): 6:01pm On Jul 19, 2023
DomPerignon:
FG should begin recalling most of the currency in circulation printed from thin air by Emefile through this Forex window.

This how the FG can utilize the Forex to remove excess liquidity from circulation and drive down inflation.

The only people betting against the naira are Buhari looters who , without Emefile's protection, are now moving their loot through the Forex window .

No genuine business will bid so high for Forex in such a challenging economy. What do they want to import that they are desperate to bid so high for Forex?

In a few months, if the FG compels the CBN to withdraw all excess liquidity from funds raised through the FX open window bidding, the naira will regain to about 350-400 to a dollar.
When I see comments like this that get likes I just know that most Nigerians are plain ignorant about the economy and how it works. What's making the exchange rate worse is not some money kept somewhere it's simply that there's no supply meanwhile demand is outrageous.
As at yesterday almost all Nigerian banks have billions of dollars of backlogs of matured fx obligations yet to be settled dating back to as far back as 2016.
Until all that backlog is cleared there's no hope for the naira in a floating regime. Even when the backlog is cleared there still won't be hope cos everyone has lost hope in naira and dollar supply will still not be adequate .

How a man spend years chasing power and after getting it didn't know what to do with it should be studied in political science. Buhari got into office unprepared and unfit to rule. He spent a major part of his 8 years jet trotting all over the world and left Nigeria economy in tatters. His laisse faire attitude to leadership made his government anything goes and looting happening everywhere without care. His approach to leadership issue is always lackadaisical and where he needs to be decisive on sensitive salient issues on security, economy or even politics etc will rather leave it to chance or expect things to sort themselves out.
Buhari is the worst calamity to ever happen to Nigeria.
