Properties › Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by debeey87(m): 6:23pm On Feb 27, 2022 |
I noticed the norm is for bricklayers to plaster walls giving it a rough surface before tiling is done.
Tilers also put a mixture of cement and sand on the same wall to serve as adhesive for the tiles which is expected.
Can't wall tiles be done on blocks without first plastering them. |

uncleteeh: Let the drafter determine that, so easy using AutoCAD. If this is a proposed site for you, how do you plan to set it out. Quogent measurements are missing. It is not proposed. Actually using it to determine the area quoted by the tiler for the entire building. We got an extra space after this land He quoted 385sqm to tile this Floor plan, half tile to window level for the kitchens, visitor's toilet and full tiling for the bathrooms

whirlwind7: That was from ọmọ onílè. After they demand money for decking, they will come back when you're about to roof the building, for roofing levy. Didn't you pay them foundation levy before? Paid all of that with receipt sef. I am expecting them at the roofing stage but we're not even there yet. Not one block has been erected on the decking yet. But this notice came with local govt logo and all, Omo onile don't do formal writings as such. That's why Port Harcourt is better in a way. once you pay for family receipt and the local govt levy, whatever you do after then is no one's business |

Mr okenwa mentioned scredding will fix the cracks. I saw this scredded wall and the plastering crack is still very visible.
I appreciate all the opinions given.
For those building in Ado -odo otta, does the local govt collect any money for decking. A notice was placed on my build asking me to pay 100k for the decking

MrOkenwa: Likely due to the mix ratio. The defect is more of cosmetic, screed will get rid of it. Add more sharp sand to the plastering sand mix. I have very little knowledge, wait for responses from professionals. I had no plan to screed the walls initially. What other options to cover those cracks. We will use your cue for plastering the upstairs

Charisdesigns: A picture of the said crack will help give a more accurate answer
But here’s what I shared awhile ago on similar case
Possible Causes: 1) Foundation "is the foundation done properly or better still if the right foundation type was used."
2) Ineffective bonding between the blocks and mortar
3) Plastering mix ratio
Remedy
Get a structural engineer to help you determine if the crack is a major or minor one. If the latter is the case, before plastering, he should re add mortar to those crack lines in other to create a better bond between the mortar and block wall
Then nail chicken nets to that area before plastering as shown in the attached picture
https://www.nairaland.com/2550211/general-topic-thread-to-discuss-anything/1480#92117814 It might likely be 2 & 3 one you said. I have attached the pictures. Foundation was done well and we found more places sef
