Crime › Re: The ABSU Video Is A Hoax - Abia Commissioner by delpee(f): 1:51pm On Sep 22, 2011
We are attracting world attention because the authorities are trying to downplay this incident. The civilised world does not tolerate despoil even when the victim is a prostitute.The point is a poor girl was violated and deserves to be helped. Anybody who is rationalising and judging on the assumption that the girl is indecent should remember that violators know no class and we all have sisters, mothers and daughters that we cherish. Cant some foolish men understand that they can get willing collaborators for their weird intimate choices instead of this crude way of satisfying their urge?

I am yet to watch the video but extremely sad just by reading what she went through. Even animals have their codes of conduct.

God in His infinite mercy will punish the culprits mercilessly unless they repent. May God comfort and uplift the poor lady who is probably remaining silent for fear of losing her life or stigmatization from the public. I just hope she can summon up the courage / have the means for medical and psycological treatment. Its enough to drive a fragile woman crazy.

Just read Punch. Says she was slapped around a bit and screamed at every forceful entry while the idiots laughed in the 1 hr video which i still dont have the courage to watch. Anyhow whether shes ajebutter, pako, rasgirl, angel or whatever is not the issue, anybody who has an iota of love and respect for the women in their lives should know this is most unfair. I just pray shes located before the animals locate and kill her to protect themselves. As for Police, she will be blamed for everything that happened  and suffer more mental torture. Womens groups, help o!

As for those blaming her, dont guys understand that forceful intimate relationships can be mind bending and unforgettable for women? Ask Oprah Winfrey. Bola Ige once said violators deserve to be castrated, its beginning to sound very reasonable!

Seems there are various versions of the video. Couldnt bear to watch when i saw it on Sahara Reporters website but the comments indicate a nasty experience for the lady. Maybe the 10min version only covers the period she had been subdued.

Guys like these need to be tracked down and dealt with so our young daughters and sisters can move around safely. Women rights groups and lawyers should help this lady. She needs support and protection before she can talk. It doesn't matter if shes good or bad, no one deserves to be violated. I wish i had the means to get her out of that state!

Why cant the govt build and maintain good public schools instead of reaping from where they did not sow? Rivers state is doing that and wonderfully well.

Too much politics and looting have rendered our public schools useless. I cant imagine sending a child to a fed govt college now though its supposed to be better than most public schools, yet i attended one when they were the best public schools in Naija.

If your husband agrees, adopt a chjld while you keep working for your own. Some people conceive only when they are less tensed up due to anxiety. God will give you your own in due course, try modern medical options and pray along.

I have a cousin inlaw who waited for about 10years and now has 2 kids. I also know a couple whose lives improved with the lowering of the husbands consistent rise in BP level shortly after adopting a child. Do what is best for you!

How do you tackle your enemy if you dont give any consideration to the source of his anger? OBJ well done jare! Lets pray and wish him well in his self appointed mission to save Nigeria from BH. Truth is he is known and respected in international circles as a good crisis manager even if we dont appreciate him here for other reasons. Cant even see why people are so blinded by personal hatred.

@ Haka nai
Na true you talk. We were part of the frontline states fighting for freedom in South Africa and Angola when he was military head of state ( still wondering why SA people hate us so much having gone to school with some of them who were sponsored by our govt and treated so nicely). Was told the struggle against apartheid was the reason Shell BP was nationalised (a la Indigenisation decree) along with some other foreign companies by OBJ then.

God bless you and i look forward to reading more reasonable comments on NL. Its time to stop being sentimental, tribalistic and unreasonable while analysing issues.

The reality is that we are the ones who can change this country not the politicians who are happy confusing us and ripping us off while we fight ourselves on tribal grounds while they unite to share the largesse. Arab spring is enough lesson for us if we care to learn.

Charly boy is only creating fun time for people with our retired illustrious judge and baba iyabo as "star actors".  Must we stop living because of Boko Haram? Nothing spoil jare!

Romance › Re: Why Do Some Girls Like Abusive Relationship? by delpee(f): 10:47am On Aug 31, 2011
Some reasons are:
Low self esteem
Growing up in an abusive relationship {parents lifestyle or sexual abuse and rape at a tender age}
Fear of ending the relationship [Lack of self confidence}
Reassurance and excessive display of love after the beating.

Isnt TIti Akolades case enough reason for any sane woman to know that a man who beats is no husband/boyfriend but a beast? Must a relationship be a do or die affair? Its wise to walk away and look forward to a better day but good to go for counselling cos they may also have some inherent problems which makes the beating happen. A word is enough for the wise.

Education › Re: We Need Vocational Secondary Schools In Nigeria. by delpee(f): 3:11pm On Aug 18, 2011
Great idea indeed! The Ford Foundation initiated this idea in the 60s and set up the Comprehensive High School in Aiyetoro Ogun State which was modeled after the US education system. They had all the vocational subjects and american teachers. I don't know what was achieved by that experiment tho.

It seems Lagos state has set up some vocational schools to encourage school leavers, roadside mechanics and other craftsmen/women to acquire knowledge of modern techniques of doing things. I am not sure of the details but i think they have trade tests and certificates after the training some of which are carried out in their technical colleges. The one for auto-mechanics is done in conjunction with Automedics which is owned by an american trained guy. Can someone give us details on this and other states? God may grant our wish thru the harnessing of ideas and implementation of same by a caring politician reading this thread.
Properties › Re: Why Doesn't Lagos State Tax My Property - I'm Willing To Pay by delpee(f): 4:23pm On Aug 08, 2011
@edogirl

We receive a Land Use Charge bill (previously tenement rate) every year and are told that our premises can be sealed up if we do not pay. Most buildings in Lagos already have coded numbers for identification. We pay, so i am wondering why so many people are unaware. The relevant rates for each location was published in the newspapers a few years ago. Rates are lower for owner/occupier and pensioners as i was told. The amount is not outrageous but you could have interest charges if not paid within the specified period. Find out details at the Lands office in Alausa. They should also inform the public again.

@senatorkolade
Thanks for the additional information. Just ignore the comments of the uninformed. Some are too young to know what happened or simply ignorant and mischievous. There was enough info in Tribune newspapers among others over the weekend for the uninformed anyway.

What baffles me is why the murder case is being linked to Abiolas death and Abdulsalam. Kudirat died in 1996 while Abiola died in 1998 at which time Abdulsalam came on board. How then is the circumstances of Abiolas death/Abdulsalams presidency directly linked to Kudis death? I just believe its time for Mustapha to defend himself and leave tribal sentiments and unnecessary distractions out of it.
Politics › Re: When Did Corruption Start In Nigeria? by delpee(f): 12:29pm On Aug 06, 2011
@reindeer
Thanks jare. Many immature posts indeed.

@topic
Corruption existed in the colonial era and is insinuated in novels written in the early sixties. However the leadership of the First republic i.e. Zik, Balewa, Awo and Sardauna rendered selfless service to the people and cant be regarded as corrupt judging by what we see today. Thats why virtually all that they did in their regions were not located in their places of origin as is the vogue now. Awo did not influence the siting of UI, OAU, WNTV(now (NTA Ibadan), Industrial estates etc in Ikenne. Ditto for ABU whoch is neither in Sokoto or Bauchi where Sardauna and Balewa come from respectively. They were contented with improving the lot of the people through education, infrastructural development and support of agric enterprise which was the main source of revenue. The PWD(public works dept) then did a wonderful job of maintaining roads and public facilities.

IMO corruption became an issue with the coming of oil money which is regarded as free money. Also the disregard of the regional setup which hitherto created room for healthy competition reduced the drive for each state to excel. Remember Gowon said we had so much money and didnt know what to do with it. So we wasted money hosting the black world in 1977! In the process came contractors and the ten percenters. This was the issue Murtala/Obasanjo were to address in addition to returning Nigeria to democracy. OBJ handed over as we all know but free money from the central govt had changed the system almost irretrievably. The 2nd republic didnt do better. Remember Dikko and Akinloye. Buhari/Idiagbon tried with the war against indiscipline but had thier own issues which frustrated people who happily welcomed IBB.

Enter IBB with his charming smile and his wily ways and corruption is instituitonalised as a way of making the boys happy and keeping people under control.  For someone who loves Machiaveli, you can understand how he thinks. His coming  was really the turning point as Nigeria seems to have been running downhill preety fast since then. He played so many games with our lives and kept shifting the goalpost and settling/discrediting people until June 12 became his albatross. June 12 was a silent but deadly war for those who were old enough to witness it in the southwest. It was a battle for freedom and a better society but have we accomplished that? Another story entirely!
Politics › Re: 2 Year Rents Banned In Lagos, Landlords To Be Jailed For 3 Years. by delpee(f): 11:24am On Aug 06, 2011
In advanced countries the mortgage system makes it easy for people to acquire/build houses hence the easier rental terms. We dont have a functional/effective mortgage system in place here therefore the cost of building is exorbitant and solely borne by the landlord. Many tenants are carefree and cause a lot of damage which means most of the rent goes on maintenance when such tenants eventually leave. Payback period is therefore longer. Actually one needs to experience the hassles of building before one realises that its not always about wickedness, its plain economics sometimes.

Meanwhile, Fashola should make access to land easier as El Rufai did in FCT when he was in charge. Many people especially Civill Servants benefitted from this without having to settle anybody. Land leased out almost free to large estate developers also brought down housing cost within that period though rents are still high cos of high demand. The FG too should wake up and do something about the National Housing Fund which is extremely difficult to access though with a reasonable interest rate of 6%p.a.

In summary, this law has not addressed the root of the problem.
