Abagworo: Why is it that the Igbos in Delta State that originate from Nri spoke Igbo centuries ago if Eri wasn't Igbo? The most complex and difficult ethnic group to study today is Igbo because the Europeans who wrote history didn't have early enough contact with Igboland so they counted Igbo as part of Benin empire. What I have however been able to deduce from years of experience exploring Igbo history at community level is that majority of present day Igbo communities were established around the 15th to 17th century. Igbos were likely part of a larger group which included Yoruba, Edo and Igala then later moved eastwards across the Niger in different groups and phases. This is the only comment that makes sense to me. I've never been to any Igala town before, but as a Yoruba person, I can make sense out of conversations in Igala language. I know we have some words in Yoruba that sound similar in Igbo and has same meaning. For instance, "Aka" in Igbo has the same meaning in my Yoruba dialect. I believe these groups were once a part of a larger group. |

lexylaw40: Meet Prince Ekaladerhan of Benin, popularly known as Oduduwa infopowerng.comNov 30, 2023 11:37 PM Meet Prince Ekaladerhan of Benin, popularly known as Oduduwa Go and read the history book 📖 there was a prophesy that a man will come from foreign land to save ife from the great Oyó Empire.
Ikaladeran the crown prince of Bini who left his kingdom with his full entourage was found in the forest of ife by hunters in his full regalia
He was taken to the town and treated with respect and given a warm welcome, it was then he said “Izoduwa” meaning “I have reached home” they didn’t understand what he said because he was speaking Bini language. So all they heard was Oduduwa and that how his name came about.
He helped them win their freedom from Oyo empire and was made king afterwards, he got married and had children. Many years later he was asked to come back and rule his people, he refused because of the dispute he had with them that made him leave in the first place.
After much pressure he told them he is already an established king in ife with wives and children that it’s imposible to leave so he sent his 7th son Oromiyan to rule in his place because he was the only son not married as at then. As the Oba of Benin MUST marry a Bini princes.
Before now the kings in Bini kingdom are called Ogiso not Oba, Oromiyan who came to the palace through Useh was given a wife by the leader in Useh community under Bini kingdom.
Oromoiyan refused to be crowned Ogiso he said he prefers the name Oba, he later left because he felt the kingdom was too violent and warring, fortunately the wife he was given was pregnant, she gave birth to a male child who became the first Oba of Benin and not Ogiso of Ighodomighodo which was the real name . Oduduwa came from Bini to save Ile Ife from Oyo that his grandson eventually founded? I wish you knew how ridiculous this sounds. |

ShoeGetSize: Benin also has an Oba. In fact, he's not known by any other title apart from Oba, unlike Ooni and Alaafin. This signifies that he is a superior monarch to those two. Just tell me the meaning of Oba in Bini apart from being a title for the Bini Supreme Leader? I can tell you the meaning of each of the syllables of the word, Oba, in Yoruba language. The word is a proper noun in Yoruba which is a generic name for a King, and not a title. We have Ooni, Deji, Alaafin, Awujale and so on, because that's the specific title of the traditional leader of the particularly city state. How can any Town/City make Oba the title of their King when anyone can name their child as such? Oba is a Yoruba word borrowed by the Binis as the title of their King. |

MrRichmond: I'm telling you the truth and you're calling it garbage.
What did I say about electing people who see themselves as leaders not elites
Have you and your generation ever put aside your primitive tribal brain and elected someone that really wants to serve
Continue groveling and begging like a helpless peasant. Lol! How about you start demanding accountability from your own local and state government so we can take you seriously? Or is that too much to ask? I believe you have a governor in your state who should be doing more for you than the President should ever do, but no, Tinubu should be blamed for your generational poverty. People that can't hold their common councillor accountable are planning to hold the President accountable, because it's easier to blame outsiders for your woes. Of course, they'll always bring in the ethnic card. I believe the person you had in mind to be the President would have solved Nigeria's problems in 6 months and you would have been able to hold him accountable any more than ranting online if he fails to deliver? What you don't know is bigger than you. We are talking about a plane with faulty engines, he's here yapping about the pilot. How about postponing the flight to fix the engine? I'll laugh off your last statement, because I'm not the cause of your suffering. |
Politics › Re: FG, Come Clean On Nigeria’s Bankruptcy by DeOTR: 12:55pm On Nov 21, 2023 |
MrRichmond: It is not designed because majority of the population including yourself view your leaders as gods.
The moment you all change this foolish perception, and demand accountability things will change. Else you will continue begging for scraps from those you queued under the scorching sun to put in power. Stop vomiting garbage from your mouth. Demand accountability?! What's stopping you or anyone else from doing that? Will that make a difference and make them give you a listening hear? If the President do not do the right thing, what exactly can you do, remove him? Demand accountability as if people have not been doing that before you were born. I don't think I have time conversing with someone who thinks "demanding accountability" is the missing link in Nigeria politics. |

Elect people that are accountable to you not those who see themselves as "Elites" These is a reason they are called public servants!! Nigeria is not designed for her leaders to be accountable to the citizens. Know this, know peace. |

christejames: Of course, Lagos culture is entirely different from those of average Yorubas...
The Awori, Egun, Badagry and some other indeginous tribes in Lagos have some kind of distinct culture from the average Yorubas
It's the emigration of Yorubas from Northern part of Lagos, with the immigrants leading as top officials in the state making it the reasons the Lagos state is having some semblance of Yorubas in it. Even the Ijaws and Edos will claim Lagos state as theirs first before even any Yoruba will attempt to
Indeginous Lagos names like Coker, Hundeyin, Gbadamosi, Funsho, Bucknor, Sarumi etc have little or no meaning in Yoruba. Even the culture of Eyo was alien to the Yorubas, Eyo masquerades is indeginous to Lagosians which the Yorubas have adopted as theirs , in the Yoruba folklore, there was nothing like masquerade as they have it today in Eyo... The Yoruba culture could be akin to that of the Hausas.
The case of indeginous Lagosians could be seen in same light to those of Kalabari in Rivers State where but Igbo and Ijaw is seen as forming that language. This is a new low. Funsho and Gbadamosi are not regular Yoruba names? No masquerade in Yoruba folklore? It is finished for you. No redemption possible. |

Omobude244: Whoever divided Nigeria into North and South like this, lacks basic geography How can the entire southern Nigeria not even equal to a single geopolitical zone in the north in terms of landmass? The North central is bigger than the entire Southern Nigeria in terms of landmass. The North East is bigger than the entire Southern Nigeria. The North West is bigger than the entire Southern Nigeria This is the reason the North will always claim superiority over the South. Most of the states in North central is supposed to be part of southern Nigeria. Kwara, kogi, Edo is supposed to be part of SW Delta, benue, rivers, cross rivers, Akwa ibom, bayelsa and some part of nasarawa are supposed to be added to the south east zone There was no reason for the creation of NC and SE The remaining north central states should have joined north west or north east Whoever carved out South East and excluded cross river and RIVERS states from SE is an evil person
We were supposed to have 4 geopolitical zones namely; South west and South east from the Southern part and North East and North West from the northern part, not 6 zones
Nigeria was designed to fail from the onset and there is nothing we can do about it I partly agree with you, but I think the whole of NC should not be in the southern part. Anything above the Niger-Benue trough be in the North, below that, should be in the South. Nature has partitioned the thing itself. |
