sinorte: The economy is not looking good for most Nigerians right now. So I was just thinking, what if the Federal Government, or whatever authority that has the power, allows pensioners, both active and retired, a one time 25% unconditional withdrawal of their pension contribution balance as at today? This will help many families meet their immediate needs. Is there any palliative that could be better than this? After all, it's been the contributors' money over the years.
On the flip side, and this is to our economists, will there be any serious negative impacts on the economy should people have general access to this fund? People can actually make withdrawals maximum of 25% from their pension funds. There's no need for the government to do anything. |

Hundreds of thousands more will join them in moving to Nigeria. Won't you start shouting ronu again when those massive numbers start flooding Lagos? Burkina Faso and Mali are both under military rulers, have their countries become destroyed? Why would Niger be any different?
You're not waging war but you're threatening to invade them by tomorrow if the coup leaders don't reinstall the former president? Now, they've vowed not to bring him back, what will you guys do? It's not only 300k refugees, just make it 3 millions. How many of your family members are refugees in Niger? Let the coup plotters not listen. I don't even know why Tinubu is even bothered. Buhari pamper them gave them cars , rail way even oil. Military intervention in Niger will break Nigeria I can assure you that. It takes a very wise leader to lead Nigeria. If military intervention will break Nigeria, I think everyone should support it. It's an opportunity for the core north to unite with their kit and kins in Niger. I once had a dream some parts of the north joined Niger. Maybe this is my dream coming to past. |

SOSinNigeria: It's either you're ignorant of the existencial threat on Northern Nigeria or knows it but covertly hoping it will happen for whatever wicked reasons.
There are millions of Northerners who are poor, unemployed and ready to cause anarchy with little motivation. Once war breaks out, Niger will be ravaged, small arms proliferation will provide a new means of engagement for the thousands of youths who are idle and hungry in the North. They will turn against the rest of the country and cause anarchy. Those in the South will push back, but those in the North will be too overwhelmed to mount any resistance.
I'm even surprised that Biafra secessionists are not excited because they're the ones that ought to be playing the roles Tinubu supporters are currently playing. A war in Niger and collapse of North will make Nigeria's breakup much easier. Nobody is waging any war in Niger. The instability in Niger is already a problem in Nigeria in case you don't know it. How do you suggest we manage the imminent crisis situation that'll come with this military rule? The whole Niger population should just empty into Nigeria, right? Do you even know the numbers of Niger refugees we have in Nigeria? If diplomacy fails, we have to find any means to reinstate the elected President. Whoever is sponsoring the coup should find a way of working with him. |

THeUNIFIER: 1. The so called democratically elected leaders are responsible for the pitiful state of the country today 2. The Nigeriens are actually in support of this. It would've been a different case if they weren't. Do you think America would've cared if they were killed instead by this same military while they were marching out in peaceful protests? Your answer is as good as mine. 3. We have our hands full with insurgency from IPOB, BOKO, etc to want to send our troops far away from home. 4. We've been told that there's no money for subsidizing education, petroleum products and electricity, yet there seems to be enough for war. 5. This war is a power tussle between NATO and Russia. The French got kicked out to let the Russians in and America isn't happy about that. They fear Russia's influence may spread if left unchecked whereby many Africans may begin to abolish their democratic system of governance. 6. PBAT should be more concerned about reinforcing our borders and not directly invading Niger which I don't think he's thought of the consequences to come. For instance, Russia might assist the Nigeriens forces in crippling our economy by bombing pipelines or important infrastructures. We know how porous our borders are. 7. We stand to lose more if the Russia backed Nigeriens decide to retaliate and trust me when I say we're already too divided to want this. 8. PBAT is more concerned about pleasing the international community than listening to his own people. The Nigerian army is mostly made up of northerners, many of which are originally from Niger which in itself is problem. 9. America doesn't mean well for Africa! They stand to profit from this by selling weapons and ammunitions to the ECOWAS side of the conflict. We can not have a regime in Niger hostile to Nigeria. This current junta will be removed, worst case scenario, by another loyal to the Nigerian state. The Russians should find a way of working with the people we install. Normally, if Nigeria is a serious country, we should be the one doing what France was doing in Niger. We are more invested in this country without getting anything in return. Who does that? FYI, Russia will never sponsor Niger to sabotage our economy. Exactly where are they gonna blow our pipeline? |

He who pays the piper dictates the tone. Niger is literally the 37th states in Nigeria, so whatever happens there is our problem. If things go South for the country with this dictator in power, it's still Nigeria that'll bear the financial brunt. If I were to be the President, I'll start building a China-like great wall along our border with Niger and Chad and man it with men ready to shoot trespassers at sight. Since the people are happy with soldiers in government, they should enjoy their country. The poverty in that country is causing a refugee crisis in Nigeria already. Most of these people we call Hausas are actually Nigeriens. They only get to learn Hausa on arrival. |

glojid: No matter your political affiliation, if you genuinely take time to listen to Peter Obi, you will know that the person sitting on the seat of power can take a cue or 2 from him. He talked about removing the corruption aspect first to know the true value of subsidy. Talked about upping local production and proper planning before taking subsidy off and floating Naira. Ive had a tooth removed before so the analogy of removing a tooth without anaesthesia makes alot of sense. Before the tooth was removed I used to experience some short burst of intense pain. Sometimes to the extent of rolling on the floor and crying. But when it was removed, anaesthesia was applied. This made my mouth numb and without feeling. Even the days following the removal, there was no pain just slight discomfort and soreness in my mouth. Same applies to subsidy removal.....With all the pain people are experiencing, they have refused to admit the truth. Tinubu's handling of subsidy removal and fx unification( I.e naira devaluation) were below par and wrongly timed Easier said than done. If governance is that easy, he would have demonstrated that in Anambra. Upping production and proper planning before removing subsidy? I believe he has more insider information about the state of the nation than the President. |

Zupay: In the UK, someone is paying £450 per month for a room in a shared house, which is about N495k per month
In Nigeria someone is paying an average of N15K for a room
But the person in the UK can earn £600 per week after tax and easily pay his rent
For the Nigerian on minum wage can he easily pay the rent with the skyrocketing cost of living? How many people earn £600 weekly on the average in the UK? People still struggle to pay rent there too, you know? The only advantage they have is that they enjoy the basics of life - access to constant power, quality food, decent environment, health, decent earnings (you may not be super rich, but you'll be OK). In Nigeria for example, the cost of buying a land is way cheaper than over there. A square meter cost of land in Oslo for instance, will buy a plot of land in most places in Nigeria. You'll likely still have enough to start DPC. The things is, it was a mistake starting the subsidy regime in the first place. Past leaders, especially between 70's to 80's, destroyed the destiny of this nation. |

The question is: What is the structure of the examination?
It is difficult to study and train with modern equipment and be tested on archaic practices bordering on "cram and vomit". Many Nigerians who excelled in many professions abroad were initialed failed in Nigerian schools. Do you ever wonder why? Last time I checked, graduates from Nigerian universities are not world class. They need to update their curricula. Don't be surprised that it is the same exams that they used in the 1980s that they are still using in 2023.

NLegendforte: You are wrong, relative to the earnings of average Nigerians I don't think we are paying paltry sums. Stop comparing us with other countries with bigger advanced economy Let's be honest with ourselves. you can't sustain a University system when students are paying 100k per session. You can't, unless you're subsidizing it. Our education system is heavily subsidized. KWASU students were paying as high as 100k, some higher, as at 2017, and I can tell you for free that the total couldn't cover Lecturers salary in a year(you have to pay these people well if you intend to keep capable hands) . No mention of other non-academic staff or other expenses yet. Many capital projects are there too. If you doubt it, just imagine how Covenant University would be if the students are paying 50k annually. I think the FG should divert the resources going to tertiary institutions to primary and secondary educations. Universities and others should be allowed to run independently, but monitor their spendings. You'll see a huge difference in 10 years. In the advanced world you talked about, most people who are in the universities are not paying out of pocket. Most can't afford it with their level of income. They take student loan. The recent bill about student loan won't help in this regard. It's too lacking. Universities should partner with Banks directly to fashion out a better package that suits their needs. I took a student loan in millions of Naira for a one year training, and I'm glad I did. |

Everybody wants global standards of education, but still wants to be paying paltry sums for it. Guys, we can't have it both ways. We have to find an alternative ways to fund our tertiary education in Nigeria. Now, I'm just not saying the government should stop subsidizing tertiary education just yet, since it's practically impossible to get a decent job with lower qualifications in Nigeria, but then I believe we can't be paying 20k per session only to complain about the standards. Quality education comes with a price. |
