CultureRe: Princess Adeola Ogunwusi: “How My Father Becoming Ooni Has Changed My Life” by donodion(m): 1:31pm On Dec 28, 2015
Dsrooftiles:
Last week, City People spoke to Princess Adeola Aanuoluwapo Ogunwusi, the pretty daughter of the new Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi. She is 21, and a graduate of Warwick University. She is currently doing her Masters programme at the University College, London in Urban Economic Development. Her dad gave birth to her when he was 19 and since then, both father and daughter have had a deep bond.

Now see interview excerpts:

Princess Adeola Aanuoluwapo Ogunwusi still cannot believe the sudden transformation of her father’s life from being a Prince to a King. Imagine this. Her dad visited her in school in July and he spent quality time with her. He then returned to Nigeria only to hear a few weeks later that her dad had become the new Ooni of Ife. How did she take the news of her dad becoming the new Ooni, she was asked.

“To be honest I didn’t really understand what was going on” she explained.” It all happened too fast.
You know before my dad was announced as the Ooni of Ife, he was at my graduation ceremony in July and everything was still pretty normal. By normal I mean nothing much had changed with my family since I last saw them. Then next thing I know, my dad is the Ooni of Ife and now I guess my definition of normal is about to change.” She seems to enjoy a close bond with her dad.
How does she feel having such a father that cares?
“Yeah my dad and I are close, it’s easy you know because he’s really cool and he just gets it. I couldn’t have asked for a better parent. He’s the best”.
What sort of a dad is he?
He’s like a permissive and authoritative dad. So while he allows me to express myself freely, he also values discipline.”
Where was she born? Where did she grow up? Where did she school?
“I grew up in Ibadan, lived there until I was 14 then I moved to Lagos. I completed my Primary and Secondary School education in Ibadan. I attended Ronk New Age Nursery and Primary School, Livingstone College and United Missionary Comprehensive College (UMCC). After secondary school I got an admission into American University of Nigeria (AUN) but I was only there for a year then I moved to England. I completed my foundation at Warwick University, Bachelor’s degree at the university of Manchester and now, I am currently doing my masters at University College, London.
”What are the lessons her dad taught her?
My dad taught me that when you combine hard work with humility, you will go places.”

PoliticsRe: $2.1bn Arms Cash: Ex-minister Flees Over Osun, Ekiti Polls by donodion(m): 11:00am On Dec 28, 2015
Everfrank:
$2.1b arms cash: Ex-minister flees over Osun, Ekiti polls
EFCC traces N1.450b to four firms

Official says PDP got funds for election

How much of the $2.1 billion arms purchase cash went into the Ekiti and Osun states governorship elections?

What role did a former minister play in the alleged diversion of the funds?

These are some of the questions the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is battling to answer in its probe of the phoney arms deals that set the treasury back by millions of dollars.

The cash was wired into the former minister’s accounts, the anti-graft agency is believed to have discovered.

Governorship elections were held in Ekiti (June 2014) and in Osun (August 2014).

But the former minister, one of the leading lights of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Southwest, has sneaked out of the country.

It was learnt that he may relocate from his hideout because it is considered as “unsafe” for him.

There are fears that if he remains in the hideout, his extradition for trial would be easier, a source told The Nation.

The source said: “The huge funds were paid into the accounts of the ex-Minister for elections in the two states.

“There are allegations that the funds were not disbursed as expected because the candidates had their own campaign funds.

“Although some military and security personnel were to benefit from the slush funds, they were also shortchanged.”

Some bankers who managed the accounts have already given some information to EFCC investigators.

“But we have discovered that the ex-Minister has sneaked out of the country. As soon as we establish his whereabouts, we know what to do,” the source said.

The Nation could not reach the former minister last night.

It was gathered that another N1.450billion fraud had been uncovered by the EFCC following revelations by one of the accused persons on trial.

The discovery is contained in the heap of evidence filed in the court by EFCC for the trial of 10 suspects.

The money was paid into some accounts which were submitted by a “former Accountant-General” whose identity the suspect in the Office of the National Security Adviser(ONSA) refused to disclose.

“I could remember the following companies and account numbers were submitted by the former Accountant -General which we paid monies into. Below are the companies and amounts so far paid: Stellavera Dev Company(N300m); First Aralac Global Limited(N300m); First Aralac Global Limited(N100m); Damaris Mode(N300m); Stellavera Dev Company(N200m) and Whese Farms Ltd(N250m).

“I was directed to pay monies into the above accounts. I do not know what the monies were meant for, “ the accused person said.

Meanwhile, a Staff Officer, Account 1, Yazidu Ibrahim has disclosed that most payments from the ONSA were meant to pursue the PDP presidential election.

He claims to have payment vouchers of all funds remitted to PDP beneficiaries, companies and contractors.

He made the disclosures in a statement made to EFCC as a witness.

Ibrahim said: “My duties include recording financial transactions and to keep custody of all duplicate copies of financial transactions. Also to prepare bank reconciliation statements and to collect statements from all banks.

“The year 2014-2015 transactions were mainly to support the presidential election of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“Those payments to contractors or individuals by deposit into their accounts were based on instructions from the DFA. The tellers are attached to the payment vouchers.

“All payments to contractors are based on directive from DFA. Sometimes, there is accompanying document; most times, there is nothing except account details of contractors.”

suleiman is one of the most respected Prophets in Nigeria and he had so much to say about the election in his yearly prophecies released at the beginning of the year.
*I see president Goodluck Jonathan coming back but troubles.
*El Rufai should go and sit down. For abusing Jesus, he will not win Kaduna election.
*Aminu Tambuwal, I saw him leading Sokoto State.
*2015 presidential election will be rigged, marred in violence and end up in court case.
*Thank you Jesus! Finally a Christian is now the governor of Lagos state.
*Rochas Okorocha; I saw him moving to PDP.
*Contrary to most prophecies, Nigeria will not break up.
*I saw governor Amosun return.
*APC Rivers State needs to do grass root campaign because I saw the election been rigged for PDP. Prayers are needed because of so much bloodshed.
*I saw a man win Governorship but not allowed to govern.
*I saw attention in Delta state moved to Agbor.
*I saw people who resigned as ministers to contest election return back as Federal ministers.
*Let’s pray against military intervention and interim government.
*President election inconclusive, yet Jonathan declared winner. APC Pray!
*I don’t see buhari with credentials to vie for president.
*With the level of bloodshed I saw, it was better Goodluck goes now to his village quietly.
*2015 election is another June 12. The man who truly won will not govern or rule.

Bishop David Oyedepo

Speaking in a sermon, Bishop David Oyedepo was alleged to have said that the gate of hell will be opened on those who vote the incumbent president (President Jonathan) out in the forthcoming 2015 presidential elections.
*** “We will open the gate of hell on those who oppose you (President Jonathan) . There shall be a rise of many giants – giants in all sectors of human endeavor; Men like nations will rise in the year 2015; Men that will command attention of many nations shall arise in 2015 and God has brought us into the realm of heaven on earth, where men will live like angels.” ”

OP, you are now wondering why Nigerian men whom you all despise and insult are happily settling down with foreign ladies?

Truth is that Nigerian women need to "up their game". When you realise that men are not ATM machines and you are ready to contribute to the well-being of the family beyond giving sex and food; then you would be more valuable to men all over.

You have so contradicted yourself in this write-up. Writing about how horrible Nigerian men and how great Nigerian women are; but these horrible Nigerian men are now settling for White females whom you even presume have higher demands than Nigerian women?

Why don't you leave Nigerian men alone with their white wives. After all, you claim you folks have a lot more to offer than white girls; yet an increasing number of Nigerian men are going for white women. The men must either be stupid or they value different things from what you guys have to offer - which is sex and food!
I thought I was the only one that noticed the silly opinions. Its more than obvious the original poster was a loser, prolly lost her ' catch' to foreign woman.

Anyway, her cup of tea. A prophet have no honor among his own.

We need a revolution.

http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/195509-investigation-inside-the-massive-fraud-in-nigerias-n117billion-rice-import-quota-scheme.html?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter

First, it was petroleum subsidy scam, now it is our rice. How long will Nigerians sell their destiny for a plate of Thai rice? But, wait whose fault is it? Can they thrive if there is no market and appetite for it?

Last year I was in the UAE, stayed in Bur Dubai. I entered a Tesco Franchise store off Al Rolla crescent and picked up a 10kg bag of premium quality rice for 15Dirhams (1Dirham = NGN50). That's NGN750. This implies a 50kg would have cost about NGN3,750.
Now, this is not just about rice. I took a cab, 2015 model Hyundai Elantra to Al Mahktoum, driven by a young man named Hussein. Out of curiosity I asked him how much the car cost. He smiled and answered 55,000Dirhams with 0% interest bank loan and comprehensive 3rd party insurance. That's about NGN2,750,000. But same vehicle at Stallion Group, Nigeria is about NGN4million. So, what is it about?

This is about our greed and abysmal "long-throatedness". The desire to make colossal profit margins without regard to whose detriment is mind-buggling and infernal. So, this is not about whether Nigeria is importing or producing rice. It's just we are greedy and lazy.

All the companies listed in that scam want to make quick and huge money, whereas agribusiness takes patience and requires a long term investment mentality to thrive. The rice value chain in particular is very long. Several processes, so yes, instead of going through all that to refine the quality, they just catapult the funds out to import and then sell at ridiculous prices. But mind you they spend most of their time in such places as I mentioned above, so the price here is not their business. Go and ask Oba Otudeko how much a bag of rice is? If they have their way, a bag of rice will sell at N20,000 and a litre of fuel for N1,000.

Yes, I produce rice. But beyond that, for the sake of the economy, for the sake of our pockets for the sake of several millions of Nigerians that eat rice as just "a Sunday meal". Let's develop Nigeria's rice value chain. And your own contribution to it is by buying it and eating it. The rice the Thai family eat on their table in Bangkok is not international, it is local to them. So, let's stop the negativity attached to the word local.

It has chaff, it has stone, it is colored. Yes. But, with adequate investment, the indigenous quality will attain and can surpass foreign standard. Stone in the rice is not the farmers' fault. Rice is not planted in the air, it grows from the soil. Between harvest and bagging, rice loses over 20% of its weight in form of chaff, husk and other sediments as well as moisture. This is the terrain of capital-intensive investment, which is significantly lacking. The farmer can not be the one to plant and be the one to process at the same time. You cannot be the deceased and be the bereaved at the same time. There are people that view this nairaland everyday. There is somebody who has access to investment. Do you know that with just NGN50million, a major processor can be installed and operated in a strategic rice zone in the country that will service over 500 farmers and turn out over 300,000MT of quality rice per annum. Did I just say just? Yes, because there are people who spend that on just one or two cars, which become obsolete within a couple of months. Rice has no model, yes the varieties but there is no fashion attached to it just the appetite.

Let's wake up and stop our nation from being the global dustbin of everything. From rice, to frozen foods, cars etc. Let's make our nation great. Instead of looking for quick money invest in long term agricultural infrastructure. Every other thing may change, but we will always eat. That's the secret behind the lucrativeness of agriculture. Only that the Thai are using their "loaves of bread to pack our stew", crass exploitation of the highest order.

If 1 million Nigerians buy 1 Derica (small unit that measures 64 times in a 50kg bag) of Nigerian rice for N100 thrice a week. We will succeed in retaining at least NGN300million in the economy per month, and NGN3.6billion per annum that should have escaped as capital flight in importing rice.

Food for thought.

Regards,

Mykellio

Health‘unscrupulous Elements Are Recycling HIV Test Kits’ Date Posted: 26/nov/2015 by donodion(op): 7:22am On Nov 27, 2015
Efforts to curb the spread of human immunodeficiency virus infection/ acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) may be defeated, if nothing is done to check the activities of some unscrupulous elements who are in the habit of stealing and recycling HIV tests kits to unsuspecting buyers in Nigeria.

Raising the alarm in a statement made available to The Guardian in Lagos recently, Managing Director of Acouns Nigeria Limited, Mrs.Adunni Udu, stated that her efforts to curb the ugly practice through several letters to the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) and World Bank have not yielded the expected result.
According to Udu, the phenomenon is infringing on the sole right of her company to exclusively distribute“ Alere Determine HIV Test Kit” in Nigeria, adding that something urgent needs to be done to arrest the ugly phenomenon.

Udu said: “We write to bring to your attention the persistent and unscrupulous recycling, sales and transactions of the Determine HIV Test Kit by unauthorised persons at the different parts of the country especially the States Agency for the Control of AIDS (SACA’s).

“This singular act which we had severally made attempts to curb by writing series of letters and protests to different authorities for instance, the letter dated October 10, 2013 to Katsina State SACA, Director General of NACA and Director General of Bureau for Public Procurement (BPP), October 10, 2013 to The Country Director World Bank, March 17, 2014 to The Country Director World Bank, letter dated January 24, 2014 to Bauchi State SACA, letter dated September 29, 2014 to the Executive Governor of Lagos State which was also drawn to the attention of the Commissioner of Health Lagos State, has caused us severe hardship both in our sales as well as ability to keep up with the necessary monitoring and reporting of the utilization and performance of the product in our assigned territory (Nigeria).

“All of the above mentioned letters were protests and objections for wrongful award of contracts for the supply of Determine HIV Test Kits. All the SACAs has been awarding the supply of Determine HIV Test kits to other companies that sourced the product from local markets, a hop for stolen or pilfered items in violation of the NACA/BPP guidelines on pre-qualification for the procurement of HIV Test Kits and of which the potency of the products supplied cannot be guaranteed.

Theses unscrupulous elements buy these kits at very ridiculously prices that are not even up to the actual manufacturers price itself. This poses a question, which is; where do these companies involved in this get these products, since they are neither distributors nor sub-distributors and they do not buy from us either? We have found through investigation that these products are either stolen or pilfered products from Federal Government warehouses or other countries’ warehouses.

We can also not rule out the fact that these kits may have made their way through some of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) implementing Partners sites in the country to the open market for resale.
Udu continued: “Earlier in the month of May 2015, the Ondo State Agency for the Control of Aids published an invitation for bids for the procurement of HIV Test Kits.

We responded to this invitation, and submitted our bid alongside with a biomedical company who is also a distributor of the second line test Kit, and others who are neither distributors nor sub-distributors to any of the HIV Test Kit manufacturers.
