Politics / Re: Bill On Allowance For Unemployed Graduates Rejected by doofanc: 5:01pm On Feb 28, 2013
Hmmm

My colleagues and I have been debating this issue at work and someone brought up an interesting point.

What about NYSC, he asked? How different is this from what is being proposed? According to him, as long as we are talking about graduates, and not any unemployed Nigerian, it shouldn't be too difficult to verify the actual number of those that should benefit. It is assumed they all would have graduated from a registered tertiary institution, and just as NYSC get its names directly from the school, the same could apply to the bill.

Strong points, but I'm still very skeptical; we are unpardonably, insufferably and demonically too infused in corruption for this programme, with our current structure, to work and benefit only those intended.

My heart goes to the unemployed graduates out there, but this bill in truly ill conceived.

adim2: Why are some people saying this is just an avenue to channel this funds to their pocket as if they don't have other avenues? Believe it or not, this people have more than a million ways to channel our money to their private pocket. All they just wanted to do is to give the unemployed graduates at least 30% of the loot and pocket the remaining 70%. But since you guys still subscribe to this view. I will tell you guys to watch on and see how this people will divert these funds into their pocket.
A very good example of this diversion are
1 creating committee and standing committees in the house which we pay for, whether they work or not
2. The good governance tour is another huge debt burden on us.
3. Sitting allowances on every sitting

God will help us.

But you must agree that the amount they can fritter from any 1-3 you listed above is no where near the allowance for unemployed graduates will be. I mean we are looking at potentially one of the most effective and efficient means of fattening personal accounts with diverted funds.

We are still reeling from the petrol subsidy and pension fund fiasco, both of which arose from systems expected to have reasonably reliable checks and balances designed forestall the kind of that monumental fraud that took place. One can only imagine what would happen in this case.

Long and short of it, she must have been giving the police conflicting statements / stories that don't add up.

In obodo oyibo, where everybody is crazy for their 15 minutes of fame, just about anything can happen

quite true. You only have to watch Crime Network or Zone Reality to see that some of the most heinous of crimes have been committed by the most unlikely of suspects - including self inflicted. And lets face it those searches on her laptop is enough to arose suspicion.

Call it inhuman, crazy, but the police are just doing their job.

Maxymilliano: 0AM4J I can really see you are doing a good job here, so because of the 'Hypocrisy Of Yesterday's Men' written by Abati, and a thread created for it by 7:42pm yesterday, you have to quickly dug into your archive to bring up this thread you created in 2010 and went ahead to use your position to push it to the front page.

Why not push both topics on the front page at the same time for readers to make better judgments if indeed Abati is a turncoat or not instead of looking for people to join your bandwagon? After all, your opinion on the subject matter tallies with most of the contributors so far and I'm sure you'll be happy now.

Similar way you acted on the 'Cleric attacks on El-Rufai over Jesus joke, you have to wait till over 12 hours the topic was created on Nairaland and for El-rufai to churn out a hurried apology before rushing both topics to the front page...

This is simply part of the hypocrisy of yesterday's men and you just exposed your biases.

If you had anything close to a functioning brain, you would have seen that d thread was NOT resurrected by OMA4J.

Really the sycophancy of laptop 40 lot can be really sickening sometimes. Angry

Religion / Re: I Will Fight Against This LIE by doofanc: 6:01pm On Dec 31, 2012
TroGunn: It doesn't make sense to say that the God of love burns people eternally, for wrongs they committed for a few years. No matter how wicked a human is, the sinning while alive can't be for over 100yrs- assuming he lived that long and started being wicked at birth. Yet God will burn such persons not for 100yrs, or 1000yrs, but eternally. God actually keeps such people alive, just to see them suffer eternally.

Well I've been made to understand that sinners are not going the hell (i.e the second death, lake of fire) because of his/her own sin but because of what sin represents - the rejection of Christ. That is why there is no small sin or big sin and as such all sinner together with the devil and his demons will end up in the same place. those whose names were not found in the Book of Life will end up there. Sin is sin.

HOWEVER, even though its what I've been taught, I must confess I have had a lot of problem with the hell doctrine. It just somehow. . .

I guess the bottom line, like someone said earlier in this thread, is that no true Christian needs the threat of hell to keep him/her in check. so whether hell is real or not makes no difference.
