Faarshavin:
hello

i think what happens is that these organisations have security companies in Nigeria that carry out these checks on their behalf so no it is not a specific govt agency to the best of my knowledge.
Your friend will just have to wait until he or she is confirmed..nothing can be influenced here.

Many thanks. The check has now been completed....all we did is wait, really.

Force CIDs handle this. In Lagos, it is at Alagbon just beside the passport office. Tell them what you need, how you need it and when. Nigeria's not that terrible, they have a process for this on their site. In summary, contact any police office or officer, they'll eventually direct you.

CIDs are the HQs of criminal investigation cases so they have their records and can help with the paperwork. There could be no better source of authority than them to give you this security clearance.

When you ask how Nigerian companies do the check, does that relate to your request? For the company giving the offer, I suggest you confirm from them how they want it to be sent. Specifically the department to be addressed, name of the addressee, postal code etc. I trust the Police to courier it directly.

Many many thanks for your reply. The criminal check has now been completed and sent...We didn't need to do anything, thankfully. Apparently the wait time is 3 weeks...but the public holidays in Nig. stretched it by a few days.

Many thanks again!

Good afternoon/morning/evening (depending on what part of the world y'all in)...I have an enquiry and I believe someone here can help.

Does anyone know the specific Nigerian Govt Agency that handles criminal checks...? A friend received an offer of employment, to start work two weeks ago. However, he's still waiting for his criminal check to return from Nig. sad a reflection of the state of the nation.

Has anyone experienced this before? How can we expedite the process? what department handles this? How do most employment agencies request criminal checks from Nig...by email, post etc.). Answers will help us chase up the process.

I eagerly await an answer. Many thanks!

You may wanna try turbotax. A couple of people I know have used their online platform to file their taxes themselves. If I remember you did a short landing so you may be under the "factual resident" group. You may wanna check if the country where you work in has a tax treaty with Canada. If they do, then you'll need to submit your tax assessment n certificate from that country to CRA as well. You won't have to be double taxed. Surprisingly Canada has a tax treaty with Nigeria and accept our IRS tax certificates from canadian residents working in Nigeria and do not tax anything extra for foreign income in that instance.

Thanks for your response vcole - Yes, i did a short landing [i must commend your very sharp memory wink ].

I work in the U.K and yes, the UK has a tax treaty with CAN. Just wanted to dot my "i"s and cross my "t"s hence my enquiry. I'm currently speaking to a tax expert who also echoed your points. Many thanks.

Pls how do you link the PR card application and how does it work.?

Hi -

1. Log into CIC account
2. Go to "Link an Existing Application to this Account"
3. Choose Category: Permanent Resident Card
4. Input your UCI number and family name (that works). Also, date applied is the date you were stamped in on your CoPR (i.e. landing date).

I read here that once the PR card is approved, you will get a notification that your profile has been updated. You will be able to see the PR card details in your CIC profile.

I hope this helps...?

Please confirm one can start as EIT, and later bring in previous experience. I heard with the drivers license, this is not possible. Once you start from class 7, you are stuck.

@ Salford1
For the one year experience phase, would Apega give any assistance?

Yes, EIT is the starting point for most people without CAN work experience. Once you get the 1 year experience, then you can add that to your other experience (in the relevant field) and apply for PEng. This is what I was told (I stand to be corrected though).

Hi all,Got my ITA last week.
I will like to make some clarification from gurus in the house
1.Do I need to accept the invitation now even if my documents will be ready next week?
2.My spouse is the PA.I am transferring the fund to her account which she intends to put in a fixed deposit account subsequently. Is this arrangement okay or we should leave the fund in her account without fixing?
3.

Hi - see answers below;
1. No - you cannot accept an invitation without all your supporting documents attached to your e-APr. You have 90 days to accept the invitation and I believe this deadline is stated on your ITA letter.
2. Personally I would not put the PoF in a FD account if my documents will be ready in a week and I plan to submit my application asap. The choice is yours.

All the best!

Hello everyone. For those that have completed the APEGA registration (P. Eng, licensee or EIT), does one need to submit foreign transcripts to APEGA in addition to the WES report please?

Hi - WES sends ALL your academic documents (including transcripts) to APEGA.

Thanks everyone. Below is part of the message received. So is this ADR, "pre PPR -ADR" or PPR?
Thanks.

Hi - not sure what exactly this is - but I am certain this is not the PPR notification you get from the London VO. The London VO PPR will be worded this way:

"The processing of your application for permanent residence in Canada is almost complete. You must complete the following steps within 30 days in order for our office to issue your Confirmation of Permanent Residence and, if applicable, your permanent residence visa....."

It is also a 7-paged document

Hope this clarifies things....?

I wont say we work in remote locations. No where is really remote in Canada as they have roads linking almost every cities, towns and villages. There is always a ramada/home inn/day inn hotel or rcmp station/clinic some 50km away max. The roads might not be standard roads grid roads though.

We do have monitoring but not biometrics. I am aware of is that most of our fleet vehicles are installed with gps trackers devices that sends signals to a main station. They can tell if you are driving above speed limits on roads. The stations have cctv connected to internet on sites, and we have to call in control centre every two hours to check in.

Even the cows in those pics are numbered and have trackers on them.lol.

I am not sure about our crew up north as those ones sometimes take helicopters or planes to sites. You can always contact offline.

Oh yeah - I get the picture now. Good to know there's some form of monitoring for lone workers - I've heard about the GPS monitoring. Very interesting I must admit.

With the project I'm working on, the guys will not have to check in every two hours. The solution is designed to monitor vital signs and communicate this back in real time to the control room. Any anomalies will be picked up in real time and help will be sent out when needed.

Okay - I'll take this offline so I don't get thrown off this thread. cheesy

Thanks for reaching out - will drop you an email after work.

Cheers,

Talking about cows, some Black Angus cows checking us out while at work just now. Very curious animals... cheesy.
Not so cold out here yet, it's just -6 at the moment close to the US border in Sask.

Hi Salford - looking through the pics, I assume you work in remote locations. I was just wondering if your company has any means of monitoring lone workers in remote locations such as these? Reason is - I'm currently working on a "remote biometric monitoring" project for my company and this is an area we're looking to explore / pilot. This is totally from a safety point of view and has nothing to do with performance monitoring of lone workers smiley

Any thoughts....? is there already a market for this is Canada... Is this something your company may be interested in...?

We can talk offline if that's okay.

Thanks

Please house, how much does it cost to upgrade from ECA to Course-by-Course evaluation of documents (WES).

I tried to upgrade some time back and I saw 164 CAD generated for me. I had to close the page because I didn't exactly understand what was going on.

I was actually expecting to pay only 35 CAD but the bill I saw looked like horror movie to me, so I said I should ask here first as I no con understand again o.

Please how much exactly were you charged.
é dakùn ejo!
@ Ehrnie, Mukhtar4u, and others that might have gone through the same route.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi - The total cost was CAD162.72. See breakdown below:

$100 for the upgrade, $7 for delivery to APEGA, $30 for the additional copy they sent to me (can't remember if this is compulsory), $7 for delivery to me, then Harmonized Sales Tax of $18.72. If the additional copy is not compulsory, then you might decide not to go for it. It is pointless.

All the best!

@Ehrnie: Do I have to wait till I get my passport back from the VO before I start the EIT application? I'm guessing you did yours from outside Canada. I'm particularly looking at the question on citizenship, and want to be careful not to misrepresent myself all for the wont to wait an additional couple of weeks, if that's required.

Also, did you indicate 0 years of experience or 3 years, so it takes you to the Member-In-Training option? I've got 10+ years but all non canadian.

Hi - I got my passport + CoPR back before I started my APEGA Registration. I don't recall any question on citizenship but I know there was a question on PR status (can't recall how it was worded though). Someone on this thread said he/she called APEGA and they confirmed that YES, you can start your registration outside CAN. I think that's the best thing to do because the application process can take up to 9 months. The last thing you want is to get to CAN and not be able to get a job related to your discipline because you are waiting on APEGA to come through.

I have just skimmed through the APEGA guide for P. Eng & Licensee and I see the citizenship question was asked. Perhaps this is what you are looking at instead of the Member-In-Training form....

With regards to the years of work experience I think I have a bit of clarity on that now after speaking with a friend who is an Engineer in Alberta. So, if you indicate your work experience (which is over 4 years), you can be eligible for Engineering Licensee. An Engineering Licensee is someone that would have been eligible for P. Eng status but just lacks Canadian experience. So, the same rules apply where one still must work under a PEng to gain the 1-year experience.

Note that if you go for the Licensee option, you will have to write the NPPE exam and fill in a logbook outlining your work experience. In my opinion starting with EIT is a better option since you’ve not written the NPPE yet and once you write it and all your experience is logged in and accounted for, you’ll get your PEng automatically.

The choice is yours -all the best!

hello all,
@Erhnie, many thanks for you advice regarding this issue. What you paid for was the WES ICAP and its not the basic. I emailed and faxed WES on this matter especially after I saw during the application that I needed to send my transcripts again. Remember I said that my first degree transcript was not verified during EE ECA, WES got back to me with the message below:

Dear XXXX
Thank you for your message.

Please be advised that your academic records have been sent to the institution for verification by email and mail. The status for these documents will be updated in My Account once their response is received and accepted by WES.

We appreciate your patience in allowing your former institution sufficient time to respond to our request.

The message implied that they still have my transcripts and now I am following up with the verification from my Uni.
I will advice all those who are considering doing the basic ICAP to avoid it and do the other more expensive one. The reason being that your transcripts will be stored and you can use it in the future. Almost all schools in Canada accepts transcripts from WES and so you would be spared the stress of going back to apply for transcripts from your alma matas if you plan to go for further studies.
All the best guys

You are most welcome and thanks for the update/advise.

This is the same message I got from WES during my upgrade.

All the best with chasing up your Uni - hopefully they respond soonest.

Hi - just trying to catch up on the WES/APEGA enquiries. Okay this is my own experience;
- I already had a WES ECA report which I used for EE and all I did was upgrade this to the WES ICAP course by course report. This is what the upgrade is called. If you start from the APEGA website, it will direct you to the WES page to apply for this upgrade. APEGA has a very detailed PDF doc on their webpage that outlines the steps to the WES evaluation they require.
- I had previously outlined the total cost I paid for my evaluation. It was $162.72 CAD which included a $7 delivery to my UK address. If you don't need the additional copy delivered to you then don't go for it. Just ensure you add APEGA as a receipient and pay the $7 delivery to APEGA.
- WES requested a verification of my transcript from my Nigerian Uni (BSc)...even though I had done this before for my 1st ECA report. They didn't ask for my MSc (Uk) to be reverified (or maybe they did - I don't know). It is my understanding that they need not reverify my transcript, but after several calls and emails to WES and they kept saying the same thing "your university has to verify your transcript as this wasnt part of the initial ECA verification" I had to obey (lol) to avoid further delays. Please note that I didn't send any certs or transcripts to them. They already have the certs and all they wanted was the transcript verification.

Now I can't recall which of the ICAP options I chose (but I doubt it's basic) but from the total cost I paid I'm sure you can figure out which of the two it is.

APEGA have now received my documents and are satisfied..meaning I chose the right upgrade option.

I hope this clarifies things?

You should have chosen the discipline related to your degree as you are applying for EIT.

For PEng, ideally, your work experience should be related to your degree. If not, you MIGHT be asked for more than 4-year work experience if your discipline and work experience are still under Engineering.

Check the link below (bottom of the page) for more info.
https://www.apega.ca/apply/work-experience/geoscientists/experience-types/

Lol - I did actually, then thought I made a mistake and then sent them an email to change the discipline. Will call or send them an email again to revert. They must think I am going nuts, lol. Thanks for clarifying.

Ehrnie, I don land since 19gbogboro. Ideally you should have landed before starting the process as you are not a PR until you have landed. I am not sure if they confirm if you are a PR during the process. However, if you have got your PPR and you plan to land soon, there is nothing stopping you from starting the process.

No mind me sister...thought you hadn't landed, lol.

I'm landing soon, so I guess I'm still on track. Thanks
