We need a serious national campaign and we need to give incentives to families with less than 4 children
Illiteracy is the major cause of high birth rate among poor people in Nigeria. Upwardly mobile middle class are now cutting down on the number of children they want because of their considerations for other things.

They rather prefer quality to quantity of children. I will rather have a single child that I would train in the best of universities with all the exposures to succeed in life than having 5 kids that would sap all the energy I have and poorly train them without them being successful in future and being nuisance to the society.

So you wan make she born for Alimosho Maternity?

Bro, hustle well o so that you go born your kids for Yankee or Canada.

That's the coded thing most Nigerian politicians, celebrities, upper class and super rich are doing.

They don't believe in the future prosperity of this country.

Qatar population : 2.4million people.
Qatar oil production: 1.6million barrels of crude oil per day

Nigeria population: 200million. people.
Nigeria oil production: 2.2million barrels of crude oil per day.

If you want Nigeria to look like Qatar, that means that you would have to deprive 195million Nigerians of their citizenship., and share the oil money among the 5million remaining.
If that is what it will take. Population is a question about PEOPLE and not NUMBER.

We should cut down on our birth rate. The Country's economic indicators are not good to support the country's population.

The world listens and mourns when one person dies in Europe or America but moves on when thousands dies in Africa, meaning no consideration is given to human in Africa.
EducationRe: Floods At Odogunyan Junior Grammar School, Ikorodu, Lagos State by Focusmind: 8:41am On Oct 18, 2019
Flood aside, Lagos state public schools are nothing to write home about. I expect the public schools in Lagos to be a pacesetter considering the cosmopolitan nature of the state and high concentration of foreign nationals.

In the mind of foreigners, if the public schools in Lagos could be as they are now, how are the ones in less endowed states would look like?

This is one of the reasons most expatriates do not bring their families to Nigeria. Public infrastructure are in shambles. They will rather keep their families outside Nigeria and continue their jobs here.

Go to Southern Africa of Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana and South Africa, most expatriate usually reside in those countries with their families, some attending public schools there.

Corruption has destroyed this country and the youths whose future children would potentially attend these dilapidated public schools would be the ones fighting and defending the politicians incompetence.

Nigerian cities and towns are too chaotic. Dis orderliness everywhere.

Our cities are simply not habitable and livable. You see death in all sides and the roads are not well marked and neat.

Our leaders travel abroad and see how things are, how cities and towns looks like but will come back to continue in bad governance.

Well, people deserve the kind of leadership the society throws at them.

RIP young lady. Sad you were born in Nigeria. I am sure if you were abroad, this wouldn't have happened to you.

festacman:
Chasing fire service truck and personnel away is big blunder that is inexcusable.

However, the question is as POWERFUL and INFLUENTIAL as Onitsha traders (OMATA) are and given the frequent fire incidents in Onitsha over the years, why haven't they demanded and ensured the setting up of a state-of-art fire station in Onitsha and strategic substations at markets? Given their numerical strength and clout of members in their various communities, no serving governor or aspiring governorship candidate would ignore their demands. Moreover, they have the money to help state government do it.
This is what baffles me about Onitsha. Successive market leaders always failed in their responsibility to provide this kind of important equipment.

What most market leaders does is to organise solidarity visits to government houses around the country.

After the tenure of each market executives, you will see massive acquisition of assets in form of buildings, lands and exotic cars by union leaders.

That's the reason people fight to death for market union positions in this country.

It shouldn't be the responsibility of FG to fight fires, but that of municipality and councils.

Nigerian system and things always defies sound logic. I don't know why things do not work in this country the same way it happens in other country.

I agreed with Chinua Achebe. The trouble and problem with Nigeria is not Nigeria but her people.

What are you even saying? Even if what she is suffering from was brought on her by herself, she deserves second chance and healing.

If God were men, I wonder who will stand. You have already passed your own judgment and be pretending. Typical Nigerian!

Why do we think that people's misfortunes are as a result of their actions and inactions? This thought is what is holding Africa down.

There is nothing like overdoing act of kindness - there is no limit to an act of kindness please - go ahead and over do it.

If you cant help, allow people that wants to and keep your religious belief out of this.

Must we castigate Nigeria in everything? US citizens didn't come so hard on Boeing because of these lapses. Donald Trump has been defending Boeing as a wonderful American company just to ensure the company continues selling planes and not to loose market share to the competitor, Air bus of Europe.

Please, let's learn to be patriotic despite the obvious flaws in our governance and system.

Honestly, patriotism is the number one thing lacking in Nigeria.

Nigeria could use hike in oil price right now, $150 per barrel would be wonderful

amen... from concerned Nigerians

.....
Concerned Nigerian indeed! At the end of it all, after amassing billions of dollars in windfall, what's your corrupt government going to do with the excess money? More looting by the politicians.

We have had windfalls in the past, 1973; 1991 and 2008, what did they do with it?

Nigeria is still the poorest oil producing country. No thanks to the type of leaders we have.

Billions were made during the gulf war crises, yet we can't boast of sound infrastructure.

Until you leave the shores of this country, you won't know the extend of "wickedness" successive governments had imposed on Nigeria and Nigerians.

Our infrastructures remains the worst I have ever seen. Yet, they will travel abroad, see how things are and come back to continue in their bad governance and wastages.
PoliticsRe: Lagos Assembly Threatens To Arrest Ambode, Four Ex-commissioners by Focusmind: 6:01am On Oct 11, 2019
Governance in Nigeria is bad because of high level of corruption. Imagine spending that colossal sums of money to purchase buses?

I agree with Bill Gates, who recently said that as long as there is no credibility in government, majority of Nigerians would continue to avoid paying taxes.

Hearing this kind of corruption is a disincentive for people not to comply with tax laws, especially those in the informal sector

At the end, what is the benefit? All these conferences should be shelved and the fund be channeled to something more productive. All these international talks has no bearing on the average Nigerian on the street. But our politicians would gladly jump on any available plane to attend.

As usual, some idiotic yoots have started insulting themselves on top of this man travel. They did not even bother to know how the impact of the visit will affect them. Insulting one another just to get even with the other person.

very soon, some will even come and type, " God bless Osibanjo" in the usual fashion.

BusinessRe: CBN Fine 12 Banks N499b For Not Giving Out Loan To Customers by Focusmind: 8:45am On Oct 04, 2019
Giving out loan is a very sensitive transaction and care need to be exercised - Nigerians are known to default when it comes to repayment even when they have the means to repay.

Even giving your friend money for him to repay back is a problem even when he has the capacity - He would just be posting you till you forget about the whole thing. I am living witness.

I worked in the system for more than 10 years and can confidently say that Nigerian businesses have the highest rate of loan default - most are willful default. Not that the borrower does not have money to repay, but will deliberately refused repayment. This has led to many account officers being fired by their respective banks.

I agree that money should be advanced to entrepreneurs, but note that some of these "wanna be entrepreneurs" do not have marketable business proposal with capacity to repay the loan. Finally, Nigerian business environment is so toxic - you don't know what would happen to your investment in the next minute. These makes most bank to hold on with giving out loan any how.

The case of Diamond bank is still fresh in our mind. Delinquent loan killed that bank.

Please and I keep advising young men, spend time in developing your capabilities and success in life. There is no need trying to impress one girl or cry over the other in your 20s. Good things are every where, and must she be the one you want to settle down with ?

You seems very insecure. Oga please focus your energy towards your career goal and hustling. The competition is tough out there for you to be thinking about a girl. I assure you that when you succeed, she would be the one looking to come down to Lagos to see.

Please don't be controlled or moved like a weakling. Face your hustle first biko!

I have a relative who has been married for the past 21 years with no child. I recently visited them and the quietness in the house has taken away their joy and happiness.

For those who desire a child in their union, I pray the Lord to give you seeds and wipe the tears of you both.

I always feel for couple in this kind of situation. Have they tried IVF? I was shocked when I got to know about a couple that have been waiting for 7 years and never heard about IVF.

I hope they don't have extremist view of religion/ Christianity or believing that conception could only happen by fasting and prayers. IVF have solved a lot of issues for childless couples.

Let it be that money may be the issue but bring the IVF issue to their notice.

So they travelled abroad to give birth? Nigerian leaders and the rich. Most people, including me do not believe in a prosperous future in Nigeria again for our children. Wealthy Nigerians are buying up citizenship for the kids because they believed that their kids may not have the same opportunities they had.

Go to US embassy, 99% of pregnant women waiting to be interviewed are going there for child birth just to get the blue passport for their kids.
PoliticsRe: President Babangida’s Visit To Britain In 1989 (Photos, Video and Memories) by Focusmind: 3:05pm On Sep 30, 2019
UK Royalty sure know how to give state visit. These are the kind of state visit and reception accorded to African leaders that made some of them stupid and agreed to the cunning conservative UK system. Some African leaders opened their treasury to them and allowed the Bretton Wood institutions to deceive them. At the end, what is the benefit of all these visits to the common man in Nigeria

When the Monarchy hosts you, they will accord you the highest respect as long as there is benefit attached to it. I remembered the way the UK Universities pampered some of us on hearing that we were on PTDF scholarship to study. Immediately after the one year scholarship expired, the honey moon stopped. Once they saw that your sponsor has paid all your fees, the service level dropped. You are on your won

UK schools no de take eye see or hear say a star or someone is coming to study on paid scholarship. Kia kia, dem go give you admission.

Nigerians and their stupid, " What will you tell God?". Leave all these your stupid religious beliefs.

If you want to know what they will tell God, die and join them and stand by the gate during the questioning to hear what they will tell God.

Every time, " what will you tell God" as if he is a judge. God does not reason the way human does.

We are so confused by religion in this country, thinking that self-righteousness will take one to heaven. The least religious countries have the highest standard of living while the most religious are languishing in abject poverty.

He was so successful that the school even recognized him as one of their best staff because of his dedication.

The guy did not attend University in Nigeria but was born and bred in Lagos. He is happily married to a Vietnamese and is still living there.

They are not in Nigeria. They fly in their consultants to carry out assignments for their Nigeria based clients.

I tried joining them in UK but couldn't because what I had was student visa which did not qualify me for a permanent jobs in UK.
CareerRe: Life As A Consultant... by Focusmind: 6:34am On Sep 26, 2019
This type of thread will never get to front page. Some youths will run away from it because it is not what interests them.

People of intellect and those with passion for knowledge and learning will always be interested.

Kudos to you guys. Consulting was an area I was so interested in joining in my early 20s but the competition was so intense. I did countless assessments with companies in UK like Oliver Wyman, Messer, BCG.

Consulting gives you the leverage to negotiate big time if you decide to join other industries or to move to a client firm.

People that worked for less than 2 years in consulting would be offered managerial positions in other industries with mouth watering offers.

If you can and still within the age, please pursue your dream in the consulting, but if you have exceeded the age, move to another thing.

Consulting firms like catching people young.

PoliticsRe: Gbajabiamila Arrives Uganda For Parliamentary Conference (photos) by Focusmind: 2:30pm On Sep 25, 2019
Honestly, I don't know why I hate all these conferences - Government will be here shouting no money and at the same time wasting the little ones on frivolities.

Things that have no bearing on the welfare of the masses should be shelved. You hardly see serious countries spent money on all these conferences.

It is not that they do not attend but there must be reasons for them to spend tax payers money.

You hardly see countries like Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Scandinavians attend all these conferences except climate change climate, corruption debate, technologies conferences; AI and machine learning - These are the conferences they mostly attend.

Our politicians are notorious for attending all "attendables" all in a bid to collect allowances

Our Politicians goes to all - any conference that they are invited, they will just pack their bags and off.

Let their poor and wretched defenders come and attack me.

Ronaldo is becoming too fool of himself. Why did he boycott the event? I hate it when people think that they are the only ones entitled to receive success and honor.

He failed to attend the event as he knew that he wont win. At least, show respect by attending if you were invited. You should not be going there only when you knew that you would win.

I am his fan but I hate pride and arrogance
