He may be a good man but not suited for the Nigerian politics. Soludo seems more suited at this time. Anambra needs an economic technocrat to harness its potential and not a philanthropic medical doctor.

These frivolity are the things that makes the citizens not to pay tax. As long as the people continue to see government as wasteful and corrupt, they will continue to withhold paying their fair share of tax.

The profligacy in government at all levels in Nigeria is mind boggling.

Wastages in the award and execution of contracts, unnecessary travels and seminars, high number of redundant aids and so many other fiscal indiscipline.

How do you expect a hustling guy and those that run their small businesses to pay tax when they knew that the government would squander the money.

Tax is a social contract between the government and the people and government need to be held to account in Nigeria the same way is done abroad.

A serving corps member in my client's place said that the same way Jonathan treated militants with kid grooves and even invited them to Aso Rock is the same way Buhari is treating Boko boys - So nobody should complain.

I was quick to point out to him that the militants amnesty was granted by Umaru Musa Yar a dua and not Jonathan but he insisted it was Jonathan and that the South was applauding him. Now that Buhari is doing the same, people are lambasting him.

I just shook my head for this country and their mentality.

No wonder one of my guys quickly moved into his building uncompleted. Agencies were coming, pasting notices up and down.

My host in Houston got a demand notice from Houston city council to pay $23 for allowing his grasses in front of his house to overgrow above certain height. These fines and levies are channeled towards city management.

Honestly, when the whites refer to us as backward and savages, I don't blame - the people that are the cause of racial profiling of Africans overseas have never travelled outside the country. Why not take the animal to the next zoo or any conservation center. A young man started a conservation center in Epe, Lagos and he is seriously sourcing for these kind of exotic animals. Schools and people visit his center and pay money to see these animals. But some people will prefer to kill and eat the animal.

Note that the young man I mentioned here is not a Nigerian but from Greece and have lived in Lagos for more than 20 years now.

starting a consultancy outfit is good but it is better when you have worked with one in the past. It gives you credibility. You are equipped with how to research clients. I once advised a chap who was creating modules and equipping people on how to ace job tests, case interviews etc I told him you can't break even on this track, you need to re-brand, research and fine tune what you deliver. Good. I have been in the corporate world for close to 14 years. From telecom to banking and to energy.

I felt I have had enough and decided to go solo in 2017. So far, God has been kind.

I told myself that I would have my own business at 40 years and that is what I did exactly irrespective of the uncertainty surrounding starting one's business in Nigeria. Luckily, I don't sell tangible goods or have a brick and mortar shop, I offer intangible services and neither do I have a shop.

Poverty is cultural in Northern Nigeria.

Poverty is seen as a way of life which is pleasing to Allah.

Nevertheless, I am on my own now running my own consultancy. It is not easy as you are not sure and certain of getting money unlike when I was still a full time corporate employee.

All these comments makes some of us that wants to remain in Nigeria look insane. I had all the opportunity to leave Nigeria but just couldn't. I seems to be in charge of my affairs and life here in Nigeria.

What I did was to give citizenship to my kids by having them abroad but all of us are still in Nigeria.

I seems to be relatively ok and enjoying my consultancy job with the little freedom it offers me.

I wouldn't want to start life again. I did my masters in UK more than 10 years ago, but still came back because of family and boredom.

For now, no regret staying back in Nigeria. I believe strongly that my success and fulfilment will come here. The future is bright and the right contacts are also being made.

How much did he pay as Tax? He must have something to do with government. The kind of money they call in this country.

FIRS and government will not bother to follow up with the wealthy for them to pay their fair share of tax. Rather they will be busy harassing struggling businesses. The rich in Nigeria makes so much money in property yet pays nothing as tax.

Go to UK and see the contribution of property tax to the coffers of Her Majesty Revenue and Customs. The rich should know that paying their fair share of taxes will enable certain basic things to be fixed and helps curb the menace of joblessness and poverty ravaging the majority of the people.

The rich in Nigeria should be held to an account for them to pay taxes. I can bet you that as a middle working class, I pay more taxes than these billionaires.

Nigeria is a world of two extremes. Extremely poor and stupendously wealthy people.

Nigeria's INEC should adopt US way of assessing voters demographics - it would show the demographics make up of voters in Nigeria and their professions, their inclinations and thinking.

The last elections may tell you the thinking of working class professionals. The current government lost woefully in places like Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Lekki, Maitama, Abuja in general, Gbagada, Ikeja and areas populated by highly informed citizens.

I’m yet to see any concerted effort at landscaping any of these projects we’re seeing in Ebonyi! They may give the excuse that the jobs are not finished, but seeing the stage some of them have reached, you’d have expected to at least see the beginnings of the effort! There are important things the Igbo people did consciously or otherwise immediately after the civil war, which are:
1. Polygamous marriage drastically reduced,
2. Early marriage was discouraged, and
3. Apprenticeship form of starting learning and starting business started.
4. Formal Education was encouraged via scholarships, etc.

All these and more helped the Igbo race recover quickly from the effects of that ugly war.
The northern elites should as a matter of urgency promote such policies so that their people can be saved.

Most of the things in the North that supports poverty are cultural. There are some cultural myths and beliefs system that need to be jettisoned. Some cultural practices and beliefs systems in North helps fuel poverty according to Emir Sanusi.

Yet they will keep breeding children like rabbit. I don't understand why people that are under intense war and famine always have the boldness to bring kids into the world.

For some people, having kids is just a formality. No means of training them. Come to Lagos and see kids without family and support system. That's why in Africa, human beings have lost its value. No more premium placed on human beings. It is just a number.

With all due apologies, I hate it when I see poor people and people without means of sustenance give birth. For what exactly? This is going to increase your own suffering because you are no more catering for yourself alone but a new born as well.

I fear for the future of this country as the out of school children and children without homes and parents are increasing on daily basis. In the future, most of them are likely to take revenge on the society for abandoning them through arm robbery and other social vices.

Any time I pass through Oshodi and see army of kids and teens doing nothing, I fear for this country.

He should also work on human capacity development. Physical development without equivalent human capital development is always a recipe for disaster.

This is why I laugh when I see people praising government for constructing road. The quality of human being in any society determines the course of trajectory for that society. If he fails to develop the mental capacity of Ebonyi/ Abakiliki people, those beautiful infrastructure would not make any sense.

When I see the beatification of Lagos, through planting of flowers and green grasses, I just laughed because at the end, only agberos and touts will occupy those beautiful parks and garden. See all the parks and green areas started by Fashola, Lagosians doesn't visit those places because they are all den of agberos and people mess up the lawns with impunity.

An opium makes your FEELING BRAIN take absolute control with no regards to your THINKING BRAIN. It makes what you feel the reality, and feelings are not always accurate.
When you hear a rousing sermon from a man of God asking you to give all your January earnings as first fruit so that your year will be prosperous, it's your FEELING BRAIN that will be activated spontaneously and jump into the driving seat.

The Supreme Court has sacked senator Lyon as governor of Bayelsa state and ordered the swearing in of Hope a. The little I know is that having the highest number of votes doesn't necessarily win you an election, it takes more than that. I also know that the Nigerian judiciary is very funny, sometimes it panders to partisan politics as against jurisprudence. In Nigeria the judiciary falls victim of willing and unwilling manipulation by the political class.
Now if Don't let your religion be your opium, think it through, God gave us brain and that's one thing that has stood human beings above other animals.
Look at the electricity that your life depends on, it didn't come out from 21 days fasting and prayer, it didn't come from first fruits and tithe( as good as these are), it came from THINKING BRAIN. The car you drive, the phones you use, imagine your life now without phone, internet, car, fans etc, these things didn't come by 'prophecy', they came from THINKING BRAINS, God blessed us with them through people who used their THINKING BRAIN. Very intelligent write up but sadly, most people here won't read it. I watched a video on two different types of economy: Religion Economy and Knowledge Economy. Nigeria belongs to the former.

Until we discard religion in our thinking, we would continue to be backwards.

Don't get me wrong. I believe in God and takes my faith seriously. However, I still believe that breakthroughs, success, innovation and economic development has no religious undertone. Success is achieved by using your God's given brain and intelligence.

Borno state alone is bigger than the whole of South East in LAND MASS. The soldiers and security forces cannot cover that whole swath of that area.

But the government need to engage with the Syrian regime and Russia to learn how they were able to recover a large swath of land from the rebel fighters.
