Honestly, how can someone even have the guts to procreate 'anyhow' during war, trauma, hunger and despair? What's the motivation or urge? There are important things the Igbo people did consciously or otherwise immediately after the civil war, which are:
1. Polygamous marriage drastically reduced,
2. Early marriage was discouraged, and
3. Apprenticeship form of starting learning and starting business started.
4. Formal Education was encouraged via scholarships, etc.

All these and more helped the Igbo race recover quickly from the effects of that ugly war.
The northern elites should as a matter of urgency promote such policies so that their people can be saved.

Most of the things in the North that supports poverty are cultural. There are some cultural myths and beliefs system that need to be jettisoned. Some cultural practices and beliefs systems in North helps fuel poverty according to Emir Sanusi.

Yet they will keep breeding children like rabbit. I don't understand why people that are under intense war and famine always have the boldness to bring kids into the world.

For some people, having kids is just a formality. No means of training them. Come to Lagos and see kids without family and support system. That's why in Africa, human beings have lost its value. No more premium placed on human beings. It is just a number.

With all due apologies, I hate it when I see poor people and people without means of sustenance give birth. For what exactly? This is going to increase your own suffering because you are no more catering for yourself alone but a new born as well.

I fear for the future of this country as the out of school children and children without homes and parents are increasing on daily basis. In the future, most of them are likely to take revenge on the society for abandoning them through arm robbery and other social vices.

Any time I pass through Oshodi and see army of kids and teens doing nothing, I fear for this country.

He should also work on human capacity development. Physical development without equivalent human capital development is always a recipe for disaster.

This is why I laugh when I see people praising government for constructing road. The quality of human being in any society determines the course of trajectory for that society. If he fails to develop the mental capacity of Ebonyi/ Abakiliki people, those beautiful infrastructure would not make any sense.

When I see the beatification of Lagos, through planting of flowers and green grasses, I just laughed because at the end, only agberos and touts will occupy those beautiful parks and garden. See all the parks and green areas started by Fashola, Lagosians doesn't visit those places because they are all den of agberos and people mess up the lawns with impunity.

It tells you the kind of quality and thinking of the human beings inhabiting the place,

Opium is a drug used to numb pain and help the patients sleep. The opium is like an anaesthetic. Anaesthetics are not curative, their function is to sedate a patient as he undergoes what could have been an unbearably painful treatment. Any patient given anaesthetics without curative procedures will soon become worse.
"Religion is the opium of the people" is a famous statement of Karl Marx. This is true, but relative. In other words, religion was not meant to be an opiate: a drug that numbs your pain but never treats it. Religion was meant to facilitate your relationship with your creator and help you deal positively with the supernatural dimension of reality. Don't make it an opium because you become an addict if you do. You know what happens to addicts: the more of the substance they take the worse they become until they become destroyed completely.
Every addiction is a convenient flight from a reality, a substitution of an uncomfortable truth with a convenient falsehood. Don't let religion become an opium. An opium makes your FEELING BRAIN take absolute control with no regards to your THINKING BRAIN. It makes what you feel the reality, and feelings are not always accurate.
When you hear a rousing sermon from a man of God asking you to give all your January earnings as first fruit so that your year will be prosperous, it's your FEELING BRAIN that will be activated spontaneously and jump into the driving seat.
There is no stats to establish that 'first fruiter have better financial success in the year than others. Moreover God is not babalawo that demands things before the client gets help.
Therefore, THINK. If you suspend the robust use of your THINKING BRAIN, religion becomes your opium, it makes you FEEL VERY GOOD but not good, it makes you FEEL RICH but you ain't rich, it makes you FEEL like your destiny is in a ministry but it ain't, it makes you FEEL like you are so special that your case is different from everyone's but you ain't, it makes you run away from confronting the harsh realities of life frontally.

The little I know is that having the highest number of votes doesn't necessarily win you an election, it takes more than that. I also know that the Nigerian judiciary is very funny, sometimes it panders to partisan politics as against jurisprudence. In Nigeria the judiciary falls victim of willing and unwilling manipulation by the political class.
Now if Don't let your religion be your opium, think it through, God gave us brain and that's one thing that has stood human beings above other animals.
Look at the electricity that your life depends on, it didn't come out from 21 days fasting and prayer, it didn't come from first fruits and tithe( as good as these are), it came from THINKING BRAIN. The car you drive, the phones you use, imagine your life now without phone, internet, car, fans etc, these things didn't come by 'prophecy', they came from THINKING BRAINS, God blessed us with them through people who used their THINKING BRAIN. Such people did not make their religion an opium, you too shouldn't.

Very intelligent write up but sadly, most people here won't read it. I watched a video on two different types of economy: Religion Economy and Knowledge Economy. Nigeria belongs to the former.

Until we discard religion in our thinking, we would continue to be backwards.

Don't get me wrong. I believe in God and takes my faith seriously. However, I still believe that breakthroughs, success, innovation and economic development has no religious undertone. Success is achieved by using your God's given brain and intelligence.

I can bet you that I pay more taxes than some of these Nigerian millionaires and billionaires. Getting them to pay their fair share of tax is always a problem. That's why the poor are not feeling the impact of these so called millionaires and billionaires.

In advanced countries, taxes from all these millionaires are used to support the poor and provide public goods.

It is easy to loose faith in God in Nigeria because of the enormity of the problems and challenges that we face and most of them remain unresolved even after our fasting and prayer.

Sometimes, it could be difficult to believe God in the midst of huge unemployment, unsafe road, occultic people and other man - made challenges that good governance should ordinarily solve without any recourse to God or spiritual intervention.

During my student's days in Scotland more than 10years ago, I had so much trust in God. I wasn't asking for many things as what I would ordinarily asked have been provided by the government.

It is very comforting and fulfilling being a good Christian and believing so much in God in a developed world than in Nigeria where the worries of life could make you to loose faith and compromise big time.

Their bond and unity was out of this world.
