You can research into financing options for renewable energy ; funding of large gas field development using project finance ; investment appraisal methods in upstream development ; effects of taxation and fiscal regime on petroleum investment; ;funding of joint venture and production sharing contracts

I will not advise this. The interviewers already have your profile; in addition to this a copy of the research proposal will be submitted after the interview session... So you dont want this to be different from what was uploaded online, do you?

Honestly, there is nothing like a "Formidable research topic" per sey. What you say sometimes can make much more difference than what you present.

Thanks for your response. His initial proposal haven't much to say about oil and gas since interviewers emphasises much on applicability of the research to oil and gas. His course of study is none technical, it is on finance. So I had to redraft to suit the oil and gas, which I want him to go to the interview with and a copy to give them.

I got PTDF scholarship with a finance background related to oil and gas. Thats what I wanted to do for him.

For PhD, can you come with a new research proposal different from the one you submitted during application if invited for interview ? I helped reviewed someone 's proposal and gave him a more formidable research topic.

Duration it takes from starting the process in Nigeria and receiving it from the embassy in nigeria. Some could be longer.

Unnecessary chest beating - some people see fine structures as a sign of development. Development is about the quality of life of the people.

Like someone that has been opportune to visit Nnewi, the town is just a local village. Despite the so called number of billionaires, you wont even notice it in the dilapidated infrastructures that stares you in the face.

Very poor road network, highly congested, no descent space for relaxation, highly polluted, village - like life style. Please I am not hating, but did not see the impact of the so called billionaires.

As long as the generality of the people are still poor, nothing interesting about the few rich ones, not only in Nnewi but Nigeria as a whole. Development is about people and not about few rich billionaires.

Why that bridge? So he wants to drive his Bentley into the house or what? The contractor should do a nice landscaping job. The compound did not do justice to the mansion. The landscape need to be properly done with grasses, trees and flowers.

The cost of that bridge can still build a mini duplex or four bedroom bungalow

Check Naira land thread on migrating to Canada either through federal skill or provincial nomination. Canada seems the easiest and the darling of Nigeria middle and upper class - as at my last count -19 families have moved I know have moved. Wife is putting pressure but am not cut out for any relocation. My success is here in Naija but if this place is difficult for you, try and relocate.

if that I was not doing well, I would have considered but at this my age, early forties, I wouldn't want to start competing with sharp smart young guys for jobs abroad since my current job is paying me well in Nigeria.

You are right! A lady did same. She didn't want to include the husband even though they were not yet divorced then but having serious marital problem. So she wanted to relocate with the kids. But she was asked to disclosed the status of the husband - whether dead, alive or divorced. That was where she got stocked and had to inform the man which he vehemently refused.

If she had indicated single mother, it would have been easier but she indicated married but did not want the husband to be in the picture of the whole thing.

I travel and come back and can't enjoy a better place than Nigeria despite all our problems.

Start the process for Canada PR, it may take 3 to 5 years for you to be issued with permanent resident card.

Not compulsory. We had the two year post study programme then. It may not make sense to come back if you don't have a firm offer.

The uncertainty in the Nigerian labour market can make some one depressed. I will rather continue with my per hour job in UK or hook a citizen there and get papers than to come back to hopelessness.

If I didn't get the Nigerian job, I wouldn't have bothered returning. I was already exploring options of how to remain in UK legally.

You can take the route of marriage, but ensure you court a decent lady. I had a lot of Nigerians ladies that were UK citizen if you don't want to go for whitey. I could have gotten married to them and process my paper as we were also from the same state and attending same church.

99.9% of the registered companies are one - man business.

95% of those companies are yet to commence business because of lack of funding.

90% of the companies will likely close before their fifth birthday because of harsh operating condition.

95% of the companies will employ only one person, most likely a family member.

Until we start having foreign direct investment and registration, all these registration will not translate into economic and job growth.

Village and Local! Our standards are still very low in this country but our citizens will keep on been contented with whatever comes their way.

Nigerian university environment is nothing to write home about. Can't imagine training my kids in any Nigeria university. Look at the entrance door, totally defaced and look unkempt.

This is what baffles me about population in Nigeria. I served in Kano and travelled extensively in far North because of nature of my work. Places were hardly congested compared to the South, yet NPC always quotes higher population for the Northern states.

You could travelled along a swath or stretch of road without seeing any incoming vehicle or one behind you on some express road. You will never see it in the south - Heavy vehicular traffic everywhere.

You can't have these type of scanty roads in Lagos - see the round about, it is not even busy. Lagos round about usually have heavy vehicular movement but Lagos has a lower population than Kano according to NPC.

Nigeria statistics are always terrific!!! You can never make any meaningful research with data coming from Nigeria.

The current set of graduates are not skilled in job hunting. I tell people that job hunting is an art. These jobs are not kpmg jobs but recruiting on behalf of their clients

Try and see how you could be shortlisted and follow up with any body in kpmg.

When I was job hunting after graduation, I made friends with people from the top 4. KPMG, Pwc, Deloitte and Ernst and young. They always recruit on behalf of other companies.

If you have some one there, he would always be giving you info on recruitment.

Networking and relationships management are key to securing jobs. Please be smart!!

I got the scholarship in 2009 and a lot of lawyers got the scholarship in my school. Some were given petroleum law, oil and gas law, oil and gas management, international oil and gas management. My set was when the fund started accepting application from business and finance field. I did energy and petroleum finance
