Somebody is mad because Dangote's name was mentioned. Most Nigerian business men are crooks. Less than 20 of them take the lion share of our forex by inflating contracts, round tripping and paying fictitious companies and shareholders abroad. Can you imagine oil companies, beverage companies and automobile companies that have been here for donkey years have not been able to generate foreign income for Nigeria since Independence! Can you imagine all these companies declaring loss in their home countries for 60 years? Dangote, Adenuga, Innoson and many others are foreign currencies billionaires yet they never made any money for Nigeria. They are so wicked, if they cannot get their hands on our forex for their inflated imports, they threaten and do retrench workers or move to another country where they can have their ways. Ask yourself what are sugar and water companies like Coke or cocoa and sugar company like Cadbury or beer companies importing. US DOJ cannot catch all of of them. Most countries in Europe do not want to catch them anyway. Or you think Switzerland wants to catch them? |
https://thenationonlineng.net/balewa-declared-state-emergency-west-1962-ii/ “The truth is that in the House of Assembly that day, hon. Members were assembled as we are here now assembled; prayers were said and then immediately after that, one Mr. Oke, a supporter of Chief Akintola, a Member from Ogbomosho, jumped on the desk and was running about on the desk and then lifted a chair and struck somebody on the head. That is how it started, and then thereafter one Mr. Ebubedike, the Member for Badagry, who lives in Ajeromi, took the Mace and then in an attempt to strike the Speaker with the Mace, the Mace struck the Table and broke into two. These events were witnessed by the Police and then chairs were lifted and were thrown all over the place by supporters of Chief Akintola. •Eric Teniola, a former director at the presidency stays in Lagos |
Toronto immigrants face ‘thick glass ceiling’ when it comes to executive jobs, study finds Nicholas Keung By Nicholas KeungImmigration Reporter Thu., Nov. 21, 2019timer4 min. read Immigrants may have made progress reaching the first rung on their career ladder in Canada, but they are getting nowhere near the C-suites, a new report says. Among the leading Greater Toronto Area employers across the public, private and non-profit sectors, only 6 per cent of executives — those at the level of vice-president or above — are immigrants, according to the study, “Building a Corporate Ladder for All,” to be released Thursday by the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council. While the public and non-profit sectors are faring slightly better with 6.6 per cent of their executives being immigrants, just 5 per cent of corporate executives overall in the GTA are newcomers, says the study, which did not survey executives directly, but examined third-party public sources, such as LinkedIn, to determine immigrant representation. Being a visible minority immigrant woman is a triple whammy as they only make up one in 100 corporate executives in the region, the report found, though women overall accounted for 36 per cent of the executive positions. “Immigrants often have to begin their Canadian careers at more junior, even entry levels. This mid- or late-career ‘restart’ makes it unlikely that they will be able to climb up to the top of the career ladder. Taking a lower level position has the potential to affect an immigrant’s entire career in Canada,” says the report, referring to the limited upward mobility faced by newcomers as the “sticky floor” phenomenon. “Employer reluctance to hire immigrant talent for management-level positions in particular, plays a significant role in limiting advancement … Cultural differences in management and leadership styles can play a role in this. There are certain cultural expectations in Canada around how a leader should behave.” Report author and researcher Yilmaz Ergun Dinc analyzed the profiles of 659 executives from 69 employers through sampling from the 2019 GTA Top Employers listing by Mediacorp Canada. Only those with headquarters and executive positions in Canada were counted. Data was culled through company websites, annual reports, investor reports, LinkedIn and Bloomberg profiles, as well as other publicly available sources. Although the findings are not definitive, the report offers a snapshot of immigrant representation in executive roles in the region. “Immigrant” executives are defined as those who obtained their bachelor’s degree abroad, given only 2.1 per cent of Canadians studied overseas, making this a good indicator of an individual being an immigrant. Those executives with an undergraduate degree from the United States and the United Kingdom were excluded because professionals from the two countries don’t tend to face the same barriers as others from non-English speaking countries. The unemployment gap between newcomers and their Canadian peers has been shrinking over the past two decades. However, in the GTA, where newcomers make up 50 per cent of the population, almost half of immigrant men and two-thirds of immigrant women with a university degree were in jobs that required lower levels of education in 2016, compared to one-third of their male and female Canadian-born counterparts. “As immigrants age, and hypothetically reach more advanced stages in their careers, their incomes should align more closely with people born here,” says the report. “Yet, the salary income gap seems to be growing with age.” In the GTA, economic immigrants between the ages of 35 to 44 on average earn about 25 per cent less than people born in Canada. However, by the time they are between the ages of 45 to 54, they earn almost 40 per cent less than their Canadian-born counterparts. Yilmaz Ergun Dinc says employers need to do a better job at grooming immigrant employees for leadership roles. Dinc says community efforts have traditionally focused on helping immigrants get their feet in the door in the job market through job and language training, and not enough attention is paid to supporting them in career advancement. It doesn’t help that the economy is shifting toward precarious work and that some organizations lack inclusive promotion processes. “As more and more jobs are becoming temporary and contract-based and therefore without advancement opportunities, organizations are not investing in grooming these workers for leadership,” he notes, adding that many immigrants do not have senior executive mentors who can act as their champions when it comes to promotion. Sign Up Now To break the “thick glass ceiling” for immigrant professionals, the report recommends that employers establish leadership development and mentoring programs, inclusion training for managers and inclusive professional development strategies. “We need to be applying our minds to the systematic barriers, especially for women and racialized people, that limit immigrants’ advancement once they do find work, and collaboratively implement the recommendations identified,” the study concludes. “If our goal is to set Canada apart as a desirable destination for the world’s best and brightest in their fields, we need immigrant leaders that will help Canadian businesses, non-profits and public institutions to innovate, grow and prosper.” Nicholas Keung Nicholas Keung is a Toronto-based reporter covering immigration. Nobody can define who Yoruba choose as President except Yoruba. Let Igbo put all their bets on Tinubu for now. The fact is there are many fine characters Yoruba can present for President. https://www-thenigerianvoice-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.thenigerianvoice.com/amp/news/282786/hypocrites-push-tinubu-as-the-next-president-of-nigeria.html?amp_js_v=a2&_gsa=1&usqp=mq331AQCKAE%3D#aoh=15732151534672&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&_tf=From%20%251%24s&share=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.thenigerianvoice.com%2Fnews%2F282786%2Fhypocrites-push-tinubu-as-the-next-president-of-nigeria.html |
You have to understand that it is not Tinubu himself they hate whether or not he supported them in the past. Do not forget that they worked with Tinubu to deny Yoruba the Speaker that was hijacked by the North. Their main problem is Tinubu in Lagos as Yoruba champion against Igbo takeover. Tinubu always give them a position in his cabinet even after he was no more a Governor. Did they reciprocate in the East? You can never please Igbo. Awo love them so much, he offered Zik the Executive PM, he risked his life to campaign in the East and almost lost his life. They even love Akintola more than Awo. Soyinka, Fajuyi, Banjo and Obasanjo that brought them out of dog a house and gave them strategic positions after the war were traitors. So it is not Tinubu they hate as much because they will work with any devil to deny Yoruba. They voted for Obasanjo against Falaye, Yoruba interest. Do not forget that they think Lagos is within reach the same way they dreamt about becoming Premier of Western Nigeria. If Tinubu promises them Lagos as he worked with them to detail Yoruba Speaker, you will be surprised how fast they embrace him. plaindealer: |
MetaPhysical:Ewuro this Rekina dey sweet you no be small o. |
The fear of Yoruba that hate Tinubu's character is that the hatred of Igbo for him empowers him more. It is this same hatred that allowed Tinubu to appoint anybody as Governor of Lagos State and defeat fine character like Jimi Agbaje suspected to be Igbo lover. |
Africans are very good at assuming, analysing and believing great men and women that did good deeds in their communities. Ask these same people to do the same to people who achieved great heights in their communities by religion, culture, arts and science. They will echo those who condemned them as humans that must be reached from their "fetishes" which they themselves practice worse than Africans. The most educated Africans are only accepted if they quote the Bible, Koran and European writers. How much do you know about Igbo Ukwu, Hausa Maguzawi or or Sango. Check out great African writers to support your argument here, you cannot because you do not know any. The poor Africans will always be among us, so they should accept their fate and faith you preach to them? Yeye dey boom! |
This another example of what you hear and what you interpret in your mind. Can any of you trouble makers quote a sentence he made that was offensive? Nigerians were treated with respect and welcomed in many foreign countries because of oil wealth then. Yes, looters forgot large sum of money in taxi cabs and phone booths in Europe and Nigeria was the place to be in 70/80s. Was he wrong or some of you were too young? |
If the laminated certificate is the problem, call somebody or his attention to the proper authority for verification. Especially if this is your dream job. I find it hard that you will just give it up so easily. I hope it is not too late. |
Passionate888:What difference does it make? What problem in Nigeria does that solve if he is both or neither. Some people cannot hide their ignorance in their butthole. |
True, there are many fake doctors operating in Nigeria. This is what you get when Nigerians patronize Babalawo clinics more than health centers. With shortage of doctors and students heavily invested in, running overseas to drive taxi hoping to pass their exams every year, this will continue. Please do not blame Ghanaians. They are our best partners and rival in Africa. But then, we thought we solved most or many of these problems in the 80s. 20 health clinics, 5 five health centers and one Comprehensive Health Center were established in each of the 19 states. Children of Babalawo and others were recruited into schools of Health Technologies. Community Health Officers, Nurses and community health workers were trained and they stayed in their localities. After Prof. Olikoye Kuti, most of them pafuka, na begin again. New Administrators had to start their own projects to get opportunities to become foreign contract billionaires. Stop blaming Ghanaians for everything. Just look into the mirror. |
Who is fooling who? They are trying to smuggle SHARIA law into Middle Belt and South. Remember Sharia law does not apply to them. |
The pursuit of money and lack of character has rendered most African countries poorer than ever. It is not how much money you make but how you spend it. This is why character is is foremost. Didn't Nigeria fight a war without borrowing a Kobo? |
Can someone please educate us. I think defamation of character is already part of the law. Even some people are using criminal defamation. This is nothing short of surreptitious way to silence the Press and individuals by law makers that should be thrown into hell fire themselves for legalized and illegal looting. If the choice is between abuse of freedom of speech and abuse of tresury? I stand for abuse of freedom of speech that can be prosecuted in a court of law civilly. |

The essential point many are missing is that Customs and Border Patrol not only at the borders but at the air and sea ports have been the problem all along. Until someone wakes up and decides enough is enough, nobody would have acknowledged this big gap. Oya, move on to other sectors and save Nigerians from themselves. |
There is nothing with what the OP stated that is not true or that Nigerians do not know and protest against daily At the same time, it is silly to compare Nigeria with Ghana in population or land mass. Lagos with it's daily growing population would be a better match for comparison. Ghana has always been blessed with better Administrators. The first coming of Rawlings has sanitized that country better than Buhari/Idiagbon Operation WAI. Make no mistake about it, it is easier to manage a small country like Ghana with a small population of 30 million. Yes Nigeria has obscene population of 90 millions that are in poverty. Greater than any African Country. The irony of this is that this dirty mark has reduced the false sense of wealth, arrogance and chest beating Nigerians display at home and abroad. However, countries like Ghana must be careful when you criticize a country that has about 100 million people that live far better than you, has two or more regions better developed that your whole country. Nigerians would also be silly to boast about one or two regions while most of your Northern regions wallow in abject Poverty dragging down everyone. The corruption in Nigeria cannot be excused as every country has corruption. It is only in Nigeria where a single person steals a whole house with it's foundation. No allocation is safe. Be it salary, project or contract at the Federal, state or municipal level. Even family allocation is no longer safe. This has built a character flaw where decent people can no longer form a quorum. Correction: Please Nkrumah did not advocate smaller countries, if he had the chance, the whole of Africa would be one Country. |
We cannot blame Tinubu for everything that happened to Osinbajo to undermine him for contesting as the next President. But the cabals and oligarchy would like to use him to knock one another out. |
I am surprised you did not come to the defense of Phillip Effiong. Please Google is your friend. When his people came to him and reported the killings of his people by Igbo soldiers, he personally reported it to Ojukwu. He promised to look into it but ignored Effiong. If he had pressed Ojukwu further, he could have ended up like Efejuana and Banjo. Remember that even Zik in whose hands he was born, feared him. Zik refused to come back for "consultation" on his world tour for Biafra. Please leave Effiong out of this, he was also the victim of circumstances, even after the war, Gowon disappointed him. I am not sure, but I think his pension was paid after he died. He was a broken man and a victim of both sides. Kpoikpoi: |
I love Maduka and what he has done with his money in Nigeria. He fought his employer in US for discrimination as most successful professionals experience in Foreign land. The windfall from that case was wisely invested in the US and Nigeria. It is a little disappointing that he had this motive to run for office and become a politician. All of us cannot be politicians, God created each of us for individual task and Maduka is doing fine, even better than most politicians. Eh, If I have to choose between him and the headless hustlers running around today, he would get my vote. |
I love the doctor that gave him placebo. Africans are known to think injection works better, that is why some physicians give injection even as placebo. |
No one would condom repression and police brutality in Nigeria. But do not wish Trump on Nigeria. Abacha refused to come to Lagos for fear of what was worse than booing. OPC and Nadeco defied him. Buhari and Amusu were booed during their campaign in Abeokuta until they hurriedly left. |
babasolution:While you guys are at each other's throats over Lagos which will remain in the Southwest no matter how you slice and burn it. My question is what are you doing or going to do about Nigerians that keep billions made in Nigeria OUTSIDE Nigeria with the help of foreign partners? Sirs/Madams your answers will be appreciated regardless of your ethic bias. |
Another circular dance. Engage yourself to your satisfaction of who or what came before the other. gregyboy: |
In 2019? Africans and their colo-mentality even as the adopted granddaugther or grandson of Queen Victoria's slave. You then wander why we import ship load of junk, waste and environmental discarded poison reject by most countries from their shores. It can't be true, can it? |
I keep on hearing, reading and even watching Swallow on social medias as Nigerian. Abeg una, before you turn the rest of us that do not Swallow into aliens, many Nigerians do not Swallow. While I accept that it is normal in others parts even within the same ethnic groups, please do not generalize to all Nigerians. My grandmother would smack your head off if you Swallow anything with different names to follow, all meaning greedy! |
Somebody has to tell the truth. This is how rumors spread. Someone extrapolated Bori camp to Apapa. I had to correct similar outrageous lie about Surulere once. |
If you look at the root of our economic problems in Nigeria, it is not different from that in other African countries. Mainly, we think white skin or anything close to it have better God given ability and capabilities to execute projects because they create low level jobs which is better than nothing. It is the same slave mentality which we rejected politically to obtain Independence. Unfortunately, vestiges of this mentality has gone viral in our head. We think only foreigners can deliver us so our affinity for imports and laziness to appreciate Ijebu or Okrika made is not surprising. While still fighting for Independence, though dominated by Herbert Macauley, Adesanya, Bode Thomas in Lagos, Earnest Ikoli, Azikiwe, Awolowo, Enahoro and Aminu Kano were also nationalist champions not far behind. The difference? At least in Lagos, you can trust the Hausa man for honesty and leave your life to him to watch, Igbo can be trusted for hard work and leave your business to him. Actually, at the expense of your own Yoruba man that fail to measure up. What changed after getting Independence? We went back and replace our trust with anything foreign. If you are looking for money launderers, go to foreigners. If you want to execute projects, go for foreign contracts. If you want good products and services, go to Imports, EVEN USED ONES. Chagoury is not our problems, they are only exploiting our greed at the expense of our country. Who loves Nigeria? |
