No matter what we all feel about this move,we must not forget that these people are humans just like us.
They are people's husbands and fathers who are expected to feed their family and put a roof over their heads.
I'm all for beautifying Lagos but what use is it if we end up with thousands of homeless families including women and children?
An attempt would have been made to resettle these people.
This is just so inhumane
trust naija people to love injustice like this

CultureRe: Would You Rather Spare The Rod And Spoil The Child by JJYOU: 12:46am On Jan 07, 2009
prittigrrr:
Let me first say I have no children of my own that I birthed. I have assisted in rearing countless children as I used to work in a foster care agency and I had three step children when I was married that I raised. I believe that there should be a balance between the physical rod and the virtural rod of correction (for lack of a better term). I, like other posters, have noticed that in the US, blacks administer physical discipline more than other races, but the jails are filled with our kids and young adults. I believe many times that we beat the children after the child has already learned bad behaviors. When the child is young, every thing is "cute" to some parents and then they want to correct when out in public after the child has run wild at home. This will not do.

If you correct a child, whether physically, or through other serious discipline methods, WHILE THE CHILD IS YOUNG, you can avoid much with children as they get older. Let the child know you are not playing at the outset, and you can be pleased with the results. Bend the sap while it is young. It will not break. The most important thing in raising children is to be consistent with administering CONSEQUENCES for bad actions. If the child knows there will surely be trouble for bad behavior, they will obey.
i agree with what you said here. the quest for money 24/7 on the part of most parents and leaving little johny and sally for tv to baby sit is some other reason for the wahala we see todays kids spoilt

@marami

go to your gyn and get a day 3 FSH. It is a blood test done on the 3rd day of your period. If it is high, it shows that you have low ovarian reserve i.e. few eggs

@9hmo
You guys were just lucky. Andrews liver salt is not a form of birth control
pls tell me this is a joke. i think this is a white powder in a sachet for tommy ache or upset or something like that. i have not seen for ages so i may be wrong.  are you saying it is a form of birth cntrol for real?

I don't think they expect their wishes to be done a hundred percent of the time. More often than not, the women do as their men tell them so it only makes sense that we do as wish too. Plus, isn't that demanding.

hahaha I love me a good singer and I'm decent so it will be mutual.

Ehmm. . . ok. . . ? If his comment was generally about the topic, then let him indicate as such. His post seemed in response to my post, so I responded back. How does that indicate that I have an ego problem? Oh, and I did go back and reread my post. It does kind of sound defensive. That wasn't what I was going for at all. I was actually trying to be inquisitive. This means I'll have to start restructuring my posts, because I'm not a defensive person. I'd really hate to sound like one, too.
Think again. I'm not fighting for my right to eat home-cooked meals. I'm responding to why people are making it seem like it is a crime to want a wife who can cook? That is what I'm curious about. I said a wife that doesn't know how to cook won't work for me (unless she is willing to learn <-- I guess everyone skipped over that part).
What do you mean? After I made my first post, you tell me that the world is changing fast. I then say that I needn't follow the world and change as well, just because it [the world] is changing. In your following response you tell me about your wife and your mother, and I reply good for you as well, stating that I don't see how wanting a wife who cooks makes the wife less of a person. I then ask if it is a crime to want a wife who can cook. Now, you come and tell me that I'm stressing myself over other people's business. What exactly do you mean by that? I actually asked a question that I would like an answer to. I'm asking you specifically JJYOU, is it a crime to want a wife who can cook as good, if not better than I? Is there something wrong in wanting a wife who can cook at all?
oga chill now. look for a wife first then narrow it to kitchen abilities as that is important to you. it is not important to me. it is your human right to demand whatever you want so good luck. this thread is a general thread and not about you. you are not committing crime wanting a cooking wife you will be committing crime taking this thread personal so once again i ask you to leave this matter alone. thanks for your time and enjoy your wife when you find her

tboy1:
The most annoyin is when people u don't know come to you and ask if they can put some of their stuffs in ur bag. In oct last yr, one lady came to me and without saying anything she just carried my luggage to see how heavy it was and said 'brother abeg is this all you're carrying, please take some of my things for me,abeg'
I just looked at her and smiled without givin her any reply, she knew my answer already. I always carry one suitcase just because i don't want to stress myself during departure in london and arrival in nigeria
i have seen this several times. never do it. i have all the clothes i need back home because i want to travel as light as possible. you must never agree to carry another mans load at airports. it is a very risky thing especially this day and age
damiso:
I will tell him and amen. cheesy

My mum wanted to pull that stunt once at heathrow ,after she had bought like 5 shops and she had already paid for two excess luggage( prior to this we had already done door to door cargo of about 5 boxes) she still had one full box of her clothes. She now started begging me to ask one guy that jejely had one small trolley bag to help check in the bag with his stuff. Then i was not married and the guy was one fine clean looking bobo(the woman wan spoil my fine girl).I flatly refused and told her to ask him herself. She then resorted to that parental blackmail that mothers are best at,'why are you children of today so selfish?'. I just ignored her and told her that i would help her cargo the bag later. She was so MAD grin and she did not talk to me till she went to board. So she now knows that i will not be blackmailed into carrying excess luggage. Its not worth the hassle, besides door to door cargo is just £3/kilo.
your mum is funny

Most of his comment was a general one about the topic. Second time you think someone's making a thread about you. Sheesh. ego?
thank you my dear. some people never cease to amaze me. he is fighting for his human right to eat home cooked meals like his life depends on it. i daily eat home cooked meals myself it is no big deal.

ChinenyeN:
Wow. . . clap hands for yourself?  huh So clap hands for yourself and your wife because she cannot cook and no one cares. Good for her (and you, and whomever else invovled). Just because others don't mind living a life without home-cooked meals does not mean that I must [/b]tag along and do the same.
copy and paste here the invitation for you to [b] tag along. stop stressing yourself over other peoples business. look for a good cook by all means and good luck in your search

Yes Josh, I just don't like making food for others tongue mainly because there's alot of Naija food that I wont eat thus I don't make.

Lol abi o. grin

Hate puffpuff though! anything overly oily, count me out.
*osisi*:
I love you Josh
You ought to educate some of these men that think cooking is all a woman is good for.
I'm sure your wife is glad to have a man who values her for her not her puff puff making skills
thanks my dear sister.  i love you too. like i said before we were only 2 boys in the house so my mum  just said pretend you were girls and just do it for your survival because i aint helping you out.  we washed clothes, plates and the floor eevryday. she never spared us. we survived better than most boys in the boarding school.

in fairness to her this and quietness are her only flaw if we call it that.  she is a very peaceful & organised/disciplined young lady. she said she came from the part of heaven that hates kitchens. we laugh about it and wind my ma inlaw up with it because all her 6 daughter inlaws can cook she gave me her only child that can't cook. how fair is that?

i am always gratefull to God for her life because some other men would love to swap places.

surprise! surprise!! food is not everything my dear. do we like our food so much or it is enslaving other men daughters we love.
yes i can cook. i was born in an era you couldnt say no to your mum when duty calls. she and my gran taught us to do everything. i cooked something for my parents about 3yrs ago. i am a good cook when i want to but i am one of those who dont enjoy cooking at all.

can you cook yourself?
CultureRe: If Your Wife-To-Be Can't Cook by JJYOU: 2:24am On Jan 06, 2009
ChinenyeN:
Does that change anything? I'm sure there are women in this world that have all the important qualities I'm looking for (including that she can cook as good, if not better than me). Just because the world is changing doesn't mean that I have to change with something as minute as cooking. It shouldn't even be an issue. She just has to know how to cook [and well] like my mother. Come to think of it, I may even put up a formal request to her and her parents, asking her to live with my mother for some time before we marry. . .   smiley That way she can incorporate her and my family's cooking style into her own style of cooking that will be superb.  cool As I said before, I won't marry that wife-to-be, if she cannot cook and isn't willing to learn how. If she is willing to learn how, then there will be no problem. If not, then I will find someone else.
good on you sir.  my lady is a cant cook wont cook person. she does her tea that is about it. my dear mum whom i tot would have encouraged her when they met just said she is good.      shame she was not born to cook. mind you mum was in her 60s from a different generation that should have been up in arms saying no she must cook.

personally, i think she is a great person. everyone who comes across her have that opinion of her.  i wont change anything about her cook or no cook. don't pity me cos we never starve or go hungry. she makes sure there is always food in the house. i think she was born for greater things in life than cooking that is okay with me.  we don't have to waste or reduce a persons life to their ability to cook

what i hate most is people you dont know asking to put things in your bag at the airport. some beg like it is the normal thing to do. we travel very lightly. most of the clothes i need are now in naija. women are always something else when it comes to packing stuff. my other half is known to carry stuff that would last 3 months for a weeks journey just in case she needs something
damiso:
Have you not noticed the way custom and qurantine officers target flights from Africa at heathrow.Come and see humongous bags filled with crayfish, dry pepper, pomo, indomie noodles etc(as if they don't sell all this things in london huh).b]i can't even try it when travelling with my hubby because them na britico and he will just ignore you at the check in counter because he would have been warningyou from home about what you are carrying that is unnecessary[/b].
