Well good luck to you in your studies, I hope it pans out well for you and all things being equal, we'll be joining legs in few years time.
But don't dispute the fact that pharmacy is a walk in the park for some people (First hand experience) and I won't doubt you saying pharmacy is hard, because you're talking from your experience while still at it. Good luck to you once again!

so to study pharmacy in uniben one has to have a good grounding in calculations then.
Yes dear, but it's not something you can't do if you are determined to. All you need do is practice your chemistry calculations the more since you are good in maths and physics.

Jman06, which pharmacy school do you attend and in what level are you now?
@ikcid, which pharmacy school are you in?? My instinct tells me you are not even a pharmacy student or pharmacist but an outsider who thinks it's easy in pharmacy. I was like that before I got admission into pharmacy after studying biochem. I used to think pharmacy was a walkover until I got in.
I'm not doing badly though but I have come to realize the truth which is that pharmacy no be beans.

Who knows, Pharmacy may be hard on you, while to some people; it's that simple. I don't understand how and why some people whine about Px being a hard nut to crack... to each "it's" own.

Op be ye not discouraged, don't fall back on pharmacy just because you couldn't get medicne, you'll get frustrated if you don't have passion for it.The only people that find it hard reading pharmacy are those who are doing it because their parents want them to and those doing it because their friends are doing it. If you're convinced in your ability, with firm belief you can achieve anything. .. I mean even that medicine you're running away from.
Well, not that it is hard on me neither will I say it is "very easy". Using the word very easy was very misleading of you bro. I'm not trying to discourage the op, all i am implying is that she should come prepared! Some people come into pharmacy with that mindset that
the course is easy only to get messed up big time!
I have also noticed that all the pharmacy schools ain't using the same curriculum eg while some schools like mine require you to take live practical exams under controlled atmosphere every semester, others just give alternative to practicals while some use normal practical reports as CA with no practical exams. Maybe your school is very easy bro, mine requires you to come prepared! I think PCN needs to ensure that all pharmacy schools operate on a uniform curriculum.

I can tell you categorically that with the right attitude to ones studies as I opined in my first post the OP can go places. You even reinforced the same in the highlighted portions of your post.

If the Op is a very good crammer, it's already a given that she'll ace Medicinal chemistry talk less of calculations in chemistry practical exams.

Take a look at the listed:
Pharmacognosy, Pharmacology, Clinicals,Pharm. Micro and a little of chemistry all involves CRAMMING, which is like 85% of all you'll do in pharmacy school.

Asides Pharmaceutics that involves pharm. calc both in dispensing and pharmaceutical technology, with a little calculation in chemistry, both of which accounts for about 13% of what one does in pharmacy school, don't you think the Op will fare well? ?

I've seen people who got admitted through the backdoor and thosethat were admitted based on ELDs that weren't pushovers.
Well, I don't know for your school, but in mine, one has got to have at least an average knowledge of chemistry calculations, maths and physics to do well.

Aside maybe pharmacognosy, all the other courses have calculations. If not in the theory, it will be in the practicals. We do practical cology where you have to calculate doses of drugs to be administered to your animal from stock based on weight of animals. In pharm micro, topics like preparation of sterile products (eye drops, injections, infusions, ear drops etc), phenol coefficient, serial dilution of antimicrobial agents etc require good knowledge of calculations. In pharm chem, I wonder how one would pass analysis without being good in chemistry calculations and maths. Even in clinical pharmacy, you'll still do calculations! Then you now talk about pharmaceutics and pharm tech which is where you will do the father of all the calculations.

Bro, in Uniben we do live practical exams in all these courses and if you are not good in calculations, sorry will become the person's name. You have to calculate, prepare your products or generate your result within a short time.
I'm not implying that it cannot be done by someone who is serious, but you saying that it is very easy was a misrepresentation of fact. One has to come prepared else they get withdrawn.

Family › Re: Can A 16yrs Marry While In Secondary School? by Jman06(m): 6:51pm On Dec 31, 2018
If either of you or your uncle is capable of taking care of the girl and seeing to her education and general welfare, then you can go ahead and oppose the marriage.
But if non of you cares about how she has been coping and offers no tangible support to her, then you have no moral justification to oppose the marriage.

All you need do is try to get to know the guy and see if he's capable of taking care of her, not just in terms of material needs but also emotionally, morally and so on. He needs to be the largehearted kind of guy who can tolerate her flaws and correct her in love.

I encourage you to please go do the pharmacy for about any calculation
Are you a pharmacy student?? How do you know there's no much calculations in pharmacy?? Do you think drug dose calculations are easyhuh Don't mislead people here!

Many people came into pharmacy with this mindset of yours and got withdrawn!

@op, you need calculations to survive in pharmacy o. You would calculate both drug doses, flow properties of powders, viscosity of liquids etc. In fact, you need a sound knowledge of chemistry, physics and maths to survive in pharmacy school.

Pharmacy combines both the so called cramming and calculations. Be informed!

However, you can still do it if you are determined to. You may just need to take some tutorials in chemistry calculations since you said you are good in maths. Get a good book on chemistry calculations and practice. If you have any difficult problem in chemistry calculations, you can notify me or any other person that can help.

Guys please let's learn to respect ourselves! This attitude of acting like dogs on heat all the time must end with this year 2018.

How can you open a hookup thread and all you'll be seeing are only male phone numbershuh Do you think females too don't enjoy secshuh They do! But they have succeeded in putting you in a position where you'd be the one craving it while they take advantage of your excessive crave for it to milk your cash and at the same time enjoy the secs even more than you. This foolishness has to stop! Let's have some class guys abeg.

Learn to control your urges! If it becomes too much, ''ga a gboo ncha" ( go and mastuurbate)! It is better than making yourself a slave to the female's genitals.

Education › Re: What Can I Do Not To Miss Admission This Year With 272 UTME Score? by Jman06(m): 7:43pm On Dec 28, 2018
Sir, if your daughter is good enough let her write another JAMB and this time fill UNIBEN as her first choice. Uniben has a very transparent admission process (at least for the merit list). Once she beats the cut off point in her post UTME test-which is usually computer-based, she'll be admitted with no stories!
Besides Uniben's pharmacy school is topnotch! She'll gain more knowledge and exposure there.

If you really trust your daughter's intellectual prowess, take my advice.

Education › Re: Admission In Nigeria Is Getting Tougher by Jman06(m): 9:55am On Dec 26, 2018
You must not all go to university! Don't settle for a course you don't like just because you want to enter the university. You will regret it and end up envying your mates who made it to those courses with career prospects. Right from NYSC camp you will see the difference between you and the professionals! Next thing you will start consoling yourself with phrases like "they are charge and bail lawyers", " doctors don't have time for themselves " or " pharmacists end up in chemist shops " etc.

Unless you really have passion for the course and ready to study it up to PhD level where you would become an authority in that course, don't waste your precious time. You'll be better off going to a vocational institution to acquire a skill or even learning a trade. Don't just jump into any course because you're desperate for admission!

A word is enough for the wise!

To each his/her own. Personally I can't marry a lady who is older than me no matter the circumstance, and my preference for younger ladies has nothing to do with controlling her. If my dad married my mum who's 13yrs younger and they had a good marriage, why do I have to settle for an older lady before I can enjoy marriagehuh

Anyway, every mallam should mind his own kettle.

My dear, the only advice I can give it you is to continue your school. It's just two years remaining. The society doesn't value waec holder anymore. BSc today is just like waec. Please I beg you, continue.

I know it is not easy. I saw myself through school. It wasn't easy for me. I did all sort of business while in school ranging from selling perfume, soap, doing assignment for people and even writing projects for people, e.t.c. I am now a graduate today with first class even. But I am keeping my certificate to face business . Right now, I am doing my own business waiting for nysc. I am a business guru just like you.

Please endure and continue , because of tomorrow. Biko. Waiting time is not wasting time.
Who says society doesn't value waec anymorehuh Many people waste precious time in the university to acquire degrees just so they can brag about it and I guess that is what you mean by society not valuing waec.
I'm part of the society and I value a waec holder who can solve my problem either with technical skills or commercial expertise than a university graduate who only has a degree certificate to brag about.

@op, please save yourself all the troubles by dropping out now, unless you are sure the course you are studying can get you into a good career when you graduate.

Jonathan's government signed it and committed #200billion in a space of a year and some months towards fulfilling the agreement. Buhari has refused to commit a dime since the past 4years! Education › Re: ASUU Strike And The Enemy Within by Jman06(m): 6:08pm On Dec 23, 2018
ASUU should know better that the caliber of people in power today are not concerned about educational development of the country.

They should suspend the strike, use their PVCs well in the upcoming election and vote out this incompetent government. You can't get Buhari's cabals invest in education because they don't understand the importance of education.

Osibanjo is a political professor and a stooge of the cabals. Imagine how he was dusted in a debate by Peter Obi who is not a professor.
Christianity Etc › How Evil Men's Families End In My Village... Karma Is Real!!! by Jman06(op): 3:46pm On Dec 23, 2018
I come from a village in the eastern part of Nigeria where Karma is fully at work. Sometimes I wonder if Karma is even a native of my village considering the rate at which she strikes.

My village used to host some of the most "powerful" men who were great native doctors and warriors who thrived in unleashing terrors and painful deaths on their fellow men and women alike. These men sacrificed humans ( especially young maidens and slaves) to their shrines with reckless abandon. This is not nollywood movie but events that took place live and direct in my village. In fact, some of the vestiges of the activities of those men are still their till today.

However, the purpose of this thread is that all those families where such evil acts took place are in total ruins today and I mean ALL with none spared! As a thinker, sometimes I begin to ponder on the possible answer to why things took the pathetic turns in those once "great" families.

How would you explain a scenario where a man would lose 8 children in a space of 5yrs in different circumstances, or have non of his children making progress in life no matter how much money he tries to invest in them? In fact, some of those families are completely closed with no single human beings still existing there today. If it were just circumstances of life, how come families of men who never soiled their hands in other people's blood are still existing and thriving in that same village??

Please I would like to get the opinions of nairalanders on this topic, especially the atheists and freethinkers like @Hardmirror et al
