Then whoever they contacted in that company should not bother you at all...though they hardly will contact the person directed them to contact because that is an indication that you have something to cover

Hello guys. Please i need some clarifications.
For those who have experienced similar situation.

When UKVI contacts an employer, what exactly do they ask for?
Do they inform the employer that abc applied for study visa? Or do they just go straight to confirm your employment status.

Secondly, if you submit a reference with contact of the person giving the reference, is it the contact they will contact or the one on the letterhead of the company.

Thanks
Do you work for the company you got the reference from?

It could be

But then they claim to be fair, transparent and unbiase during their recruitment processes.

I think it makes it easier to push the button for the candidate when he/she has the required skills/experience coupled with a good Uni and an alumni that can speak on their behalf.

My thoughts anyway
That is just on paper but in reality there are hardly any fairness, a lot of politicians and people from financial sectors who screw up the economy all went to high ranked universities. They get recruited even before they graduated or referred by old school mate.
They don't struggle to get a job, they have the opportunity to select which company to work for, not because they are rare talents, no but they have connections as a result of university they graduated from

Hello,

This is a very interesting question, I'll try to give my thoughts on what could be happening based on conversations I have had with my colleagues in the industry working in HR.

Whilst it is good to consider rankings when choosing Uni's especially Uni's that have a good reputation with industries and great alumni system ( you can reach out to the alumnus and make enquiries on the role you apply for etc).I am yet to hear of anyone that was employed because they attended a certain Uni.

My understanding is that UK employment takes relevant work experiences, skills and competencies into consideration especially with technical roles. They always want to ensure the candidate has the right experience/skill set for the job and can hit the ground running when they get employed and after training.

This applies to jobs with potential skilled workers visa opportunity and not necessarily jobs to maintain you while studying, those are easier to get

Cheers
I will always encourage anybody who can afford to attend good ranked university to do that without minding the cost, It opens doors..i mean many doors for their graduates, connections are without limit, yes employers know those good universities without a doubt.

Not just in the UK, around the world university ranking gives a graduate extra leg in job market and connections to other opportunities.

Majority of people who run this country are graduate of highly ranked universities , does not mean that they are the best or intelligent, its all about connections

Morning all.

My landlord is behaving like an igbo man though pakistani.
It's been 3wks since we moved into this 3bed rm @750pcm minus bills.
The landlord aquirred the property barely 1month before letting out. .
Initially he didn't want to deal directly with us so he handed the key to the property to one 9ja man who gave us the place and stood for us due to credit check ish.
During our 3wks of stay it's been from one fault finding to another. It was obvious that the Paki rented the house as soon as he bought it.
We always call the 9ja man to complain but at a point I felt I was giving the man stress and the moment I got the phone contact of the landlord it's been a case of direct calls to him.
One of the instances I called to report boiler issue he was acting reluctant not responding to calls.
My wife and I walked straight to his door (he lives 4 houses away from ours) and told him some friendly words in 9ja tone. I further mentioned to him that I work at the council and can report him to housing dept if he continues with these stunt.
Omo, paki has been up and doing since then o.
Bought new boiler and installed.
Due to the installation, the heater in the palour was disconnected coz it's old and cannot function with the settings of the new boiler. Plus the radiator in one of the rooms leaks water.
It's been 1wk since he installed the boiler.
By next week I will start fresh heat on him..
.
You will be the first to wave race card but you are comfortably using racial slur on people.

Yes Some factories pay more than 7k per day....

if you add light, water and transportation bills, the Uk still trumps nigeria bruh.

Overall living expenses abroad is over the roof compared to Nigeria.

Finally be informed that finding a job that pays above 15k per anum in the UK is a herculean task.

No full time job in the UK pays as little as 15K a year, that is just for part time jobs. finding a job that pays 15k a year is very very easy
TravelRe: Why Nigeria Remains A Better Choice Than Abroad by justwise(mod): 5:07pm On May 25, 2022
EkelediliBuhari:
“Guy no dey dull, try apply and come before them change travel policy“

This is the what I wake up to every other day. Friends and colleagues never fail to “educate” me on the privileges of relocating abroad. Well without much ado I’d quickly dissect the earning power viz a viz spending power of a Nigerian based against a foreign based.

UK Vs Nigeria Case study

Earning power
Average daily earning in the UK is 9pounds per hour. By Visa rules (student visa Tier 4) you can work max 20hrs weekly, that translates to 720pounds per month. Let’s consider side hustles and other “illegal” or mildly put, unconventional jobs considering that they rip you off and pay you less. You can jack up your earnings to GBP1,600 per month after tax (on a good month).

- Average Earning in Nigeria for a skilled Brick layer is N4,500 daily or N108,000. Considering they work on Saturdays.
- Average earning for factory workers is N7-10k daily depending on company and location. That is N168 – N200k per month.
- Both simulations above are for menial jobs in Nigeria also considering they are not taxed… at least not directly.

Expenses/ Spending Power
To avoid ambiguity and extensive writeup, I will consider only Food and Rent
Food
UK – Average cost of a meal in the restaurant in UK is 10pounds that’s 20pounds a day for 2 meals.
UK – Average cost of condos outside the main cities i.e. London, is 500pounds a month.
These account for over 1,000pounds a month. That’s 62% of your monthly income

Nigeria – A single meal in can go as low as N300-N500 that’s say N1,500 a day for 3 square meals
Nigeria – Average cost of a self-contained in main cities is N400k or N33,500 per month.
These account for about N65,000 a month. That’s 60% of the brick layers income or 38% of the factory worker’s monthly income

Consider other issues,
Insecurity in the Nigeria Translates to Discrimination in the UK
Bad government policies in Nigeria translates to Woke gay rights and other vices in the UK.
Poor and harsh working conditions in Nigeria?? Check the link below for abroad based;
https://www.nairaland.com/7141856/abroad-life-not-easy-man

Overall, I think there are better opportunities in Nigeria, if you have heart. Also, we need to be intentional about a better country.

In the 18th and Early 19th centuries the US and UK were worse off than Nigeria. Religion and social discrimination was at its peak.

We can get there.
1.How much does a student earn working full time during the holidays?

2. How much does the student pay for medical treatment?

3. How about if the student cooks and not eat at restaurant?

I got a non straighforward email on the 13th of May, asking for evidence of what i have been doing since i left school in 2015 i.e additional work and further schooling documents.

I submited my previous and current work appointment letters, and reference letters, on the same day, i.e 13th May.

But i still havnt gotten any email yet.

Are there ppl in this same situation? and is this normal? Should i have gotten a response yet? How long does non straight forward mails last before getting a response.

Pls, iv read so much material on this platform, but this is my first ever post. I need help and advice.

Thanks.

People should quit speaking ill about ‘nominal jobs’ outside of Nigeria like it’s a dirty subject. I don’t do manual labor however I fail to understand how people feel that they’re above honest work.
Garbage men in New York averaged $150,000-$175,000 during the pandemic and $75,000-$90,000 in ordinary years and garbage collection is definitely a ‘nominal job’.

One definite things about nominal jobs in the US, Canada, and Europe: you will get paid on time every payday like clockwork or else your employer will face legal trouble. Can the same be said about their jobs back in Nigeria? Is there a guarantee that you’ll be paid on time?
God bless you for this

There is nothing misleading about it. Someone has shared a personal experience about her life and time in the UK. It is left for people to make of it, what they want. They can use the info or her experience to help them make an informed decision on their japa plans and destinations.

You can watch it, then decide to stay back, move or reroute your destination. The choice and final decision always lies with an individual and the OP is seeking other people's views on his japa plans. I only pointed him to views of people with actual diaspora experience, how many of us commenting here have lived abroad? I haven't o, so let me direct him to those who have.

And when you say few individuals, I wonder if you read most of the comments below her video. I didn't listen to Juliet's tale alone, I read other people's views and experiences too. But make I rest, I am not here to argue on someone's thread, just passing on info and sharing knowledge.
Of course its misleading and disingenuous, you lived all your life abroad, worked and save more to invest back home then finally return home to start telling people that abroad is shit, why did they not return home after 2-3yrs of living abroad to enjoy that wonderful Africa ?

A few of my colleagues that travelled just dey dull my ginger. My Oga who nets over 750k, we spoke today and he is considering a security man job, and claims net pay is over 2M monthly. Biko I cannot come and kill myself.

My friend, we spoke this evening and he responded oboy make I no lie you, na shit i dey pack for here, the good news is they say it will always get better with time. What if person no come eventually become citizen, is it a must you go become citizen.

I don talk to over 10 persons today and they all saying everything is though. Me I don't like stress, where me and wify go dey overwork just dey pay bills. Ofcourse I no get strength for menial jobs, make one oyibo use me take dey shine lol....

I no get any exceptional skill, I be sales man ooo.

Would you advise I still gamble and go with family abi make I hold my job oooo.

Please, I would welcome suggestions and advise.

Thanks Guys
You have a good salary, wife and kids, don't leave all that only to travel to start afresh again. It will take you average 15-20yrs to get the level you are right now. You can go for holiday in any of those countries to see things for yourself.

If you were younger with no wife or job i will encourage you to go but you are settled already

Like I said, I stand to be corrected, and I think it's clear enough. If you read the full internal memo, you will see there are various criterias, one of which is "if the child is born in the UK and has held limited visas for a continous period of five years, the Law isn't putting a bench mark on" only " 18 years and above. There are various averments which have been clearly spelt out in the article. Like I said, a further research will give you more insights and enlighten others as well.
It does not mean that a child born in the UK will apply after 5yrs
