The staff are taking the laws into their hands. The right thing to do is to package him to the EFCC. |
Too bad. Any government that does't regard education as a priority is irresponsible. Owing primary school teachers salaries for up to six months is barbaric. I'm disappointed in Prof. Ben. |
There is nothing wrong in Universities producing satchet/bottled water & baking bread to generate revenue. Its better than charging students exorbitant school fees. I expected Prof. Jega as an academic to insist that Govt. should fund research activities in universities. Our universities are poorly funded & rated low before no useful innovations are produced. For now they are just a source of employment for academic/nonacademic staff & equally award papers for employees in the labour market. |
May his soul rest in peace. The youths are the political thugs while the aged are dying in office. Why? |
The academics have run out of ideas. They are mainly interested in money & politics. Their dream desire is to be professors. Of what use is a professor who has not added value to the society? Mediocrity is at its peak in the educational section from top to buttock starting from the ministry to the classrooms. The survival of the system is in research, patents & good governance. What is the function of TETFUND? A lot of lecturers are given money ranging from N5-12M to study irrelevant postgrauate courses abroad. Don't we offer such courses in Nigeria? ASUU should be sincere. The academics should be patriotic. Our dons have failed, expartriates should be brought to manage the system. |
Very pathetic story. However, there are some issues here. 1. The lady did not disclose her HIV status before the relationship. 2. Anti-retroviral drugs are given free in designated centres nationwide. 3. Poverty is an issue here. Compensation for business, isn't she desperate. 4. Our ladies should learn to work hard for a living instead instead of depending on men. 5. Finally, our ladies should learn to protect themselves from sexually transmitted infections by applying the ABC of infection prevention:- Abstinence, mutual fidelity & proper use of condoms. |
The approach of the guy was not proper but he raised some important issues that should be looked into by the University Senate. |
Cheap way to get Sallah credit |
EazyMoh:lol, a constitutional right to move anywhere with animals & rifles? |
braine:False information. Go to the internet & read about kidney transplant donors. They are usually close relatives of the recipients. |
What a sad end for a very brilliant & talented footballer. I Was fortunate to have met him as a student in Hope Waddell Training Institution, Calabar. The likes of John Ene, 'bullet', 'Santa', Ekpenyong Eyo, Akpaka Inwang etc. made the HOWAD football team famous & solid in the 80s. He was very skillful & it was a priviledge watching him play in Calabar. May his soul rest in peace. |
divinehand2003:The Minister of Health is a seasoned obstetrician/gynaecologist but is policy statements shows he may not achieve much in the Ministry of Health. Firstly, there is a National Health Bill. I thought his priority should be to set up the National Health Commission. The National Primary Healthcare Development Agency has been on ground for years. What is the work of the agency. The Federal Government should leave primary healthcare to the communities, Local Government Councils & the States. Even in Africa, the Nigerian Healthcare system is rated very low. We are not involved in research but depend solely on foreign technology and aids from donor organization. We have not done anything right in the health section since Prof. Ransome Kuti left the Ministry. Secondly, the maladministration & corruption in the sector is alarming. New & vibrant administrators should be appointed for all the Federal tertiary hospitals. All staff must be on the IPPIS payment platform. Training & retraining of personnel & replacement of obsolete equipment must be a priority. Finally, the Federal Government must encourage international best practices. There must be public private partnership if we intend to overhaul the healthcare system. |
Expertrates in the hospital, why? No qualified Nigerian doctors to man the place? |
In Jalingo, only the NNPC mega station sells petrol at 86 naira. Most stations sell fuel at 135 naira. |
VampireeM:It's obvious you don't work in the hospital nor stay in Owerri. The hospital has been shut down for more than 6 months by the paramedics & other health workers due to what they calm is the high handedness & maladministration by the Medical Director, Dr. Angela Uwakwem while she claims that the striking workers are against her policies aimed at increasing productivity and revenue generation in the hospital. The workers want her to go. A panel set up previously by the Federal Ministry of Health gave her a clean bill. Several interventions had failed. The Minister of Health was there two weeks ago to intervene personally in the crisis. Obviously, if the Federal Government shuts down the hospital for reorganization, heads will roll. |
DrAdonis:Compulsory blood donation is good for antenatal care but without a 24 hour blood transfusion services in the hospital, the donated blood will not be available when there is an emergency. The secondary healthcare managed by the States is in shambles. There is perennial shortage of health personnel, dilapidated infrastructures and poor remuneration. With the latest economic crisis, the way forward is universal health coverage for all Nigerians. The National Health Insurance Scheme must be extended to over all citizens. Private Public Partnership should be encouraged in our health sector. This the way forward. |
Commendable effort worthy of emulation. God bless. |
Good project. The only setback is the number of expatriates running the hospital. Are there no medical experts in Nigeria? Can the AKSG sustain the project? The State should have a comprehensive health insurance policy to cater for the citizens who cannot afford to pay for services in the hospital. |
The list of items requested is much. Does the ABSG expect unemployed persons to purchase those items? That should be the responsibility of the government. |
Nigeria is a secular state. The introduction of religion in our national politics and business is a major setback that is slowing down our socioeconomic development. I don't blame the senators but the system that refuses to change. I may not say we're primitive but we're still far from civilization. |
The APC has failed Nigerians. The Petroleum Minister is confuse. We are still waiting for his response. |
donofdons:You are correct. Varicocelectomy is a minor operation that is done in a lot of hospitals in Nigeria. Varicocoele is not a life threatening condition but can cause male subfertility. It is quite embarrassing that a nigerian is struggling to raise money to go abroad for surgery for a simple procedure that could be done at no or less cost if he had enquired even in the hospital that his wife is receiving treatment. May be he has other problems he does not want to disclose publicly. I wish his wife speedy recuperation and also wish him a speedy resolution of his problems. |
The problem of the nursing profession is inferiority complex. The nurses are paramedics and have specific roles in the hospital. The doctors are the leaders of the medical teams and the medical consultant takes charge of patient management. However, because of more emphasize on remuneration, the paramedics attempt to equate themselves with doctors. What they should do is to lobby for a change of their scheme of service to enable graduate nurses to rise above GL14. Secondly, even in developed countries, there are different categorization of nurses based on their qualifications and specialty. They are paid based on the services they deliver. Nurses are involved in administration of health establishments but must not necessarily be the Medical Director. They head some health institutions but not tertiary hospitals including the teaching hospitals. Nursing education is still fairly developed in Nigeria and is rather surprising that a fellow of the postgraduate college of nurses will compare himself/herself to a medical consultant. As stated earlier, the problem is desire for better remuneration. |
A substantive minister is needed urgently in the Federal Ministry of Health. The Permanent Secretary Mr. Linus Awute has not been able to tackle the crisis in the health sector. In fact his verbal directive to the Medical Directors is what is causing strikes in the federal tertiary hospitals in the country. |
I'm disappointed in the governors. Are they beggars? They lack innovation & resourcefulness. They want take-off grants. They should go home and harness their resources. |
I've stopped subscribing Dstv. l've installed star times TV. I've also switched from mtn to etisalat. |
Flimsy excuse from dull, lazy people. Obama had stated his cabinet even before he was elected. What has handing over notes got to do with appointments of members of his cabinent? |
Nigeria is bigger than APC. Two weeks after inauguration nothing serious has been done to show that a new government is in place. |
They were supposed to be in the senate but they decided to wait for PMB in the ICC. Where there wise? |
Which station will show the live match? |
The deaths of the students are unfortunate & regretable. However, the University Medical Centre should not take all the blame. The healthcare delivery system should. Time has come for universal coverage of the National Health Insurance Scheme. This will provide cheap & affordable healthcare. Students should be trained on basic life-saving skills. Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation should have been done immediately the student collapsed. Finally, some persons have undiagnosed diseases including congenital diseases that may manifest as sudden collapse. |
It's clear who the trustees of Boko Haram are. In the name of God they should release the Chibok girls. It was all a political scam. For this wicked & barbaric act, it shall never be well with them. They shall be in power but poverty & sufferings shall still be their portion. |
