I'm very young, and I started smoking two years ago...

In our society, if a woman is known to be a smoker... She's looked down on... And false assumptions are made of her personality...

Why the stigmatisation? I know men are victims too but women who smoke are viewed as classless etc... While with men, it's simply a bad habit...

What's your opinion on women who smoke? And what's your reason?

I would appreciate comments based on experiences rather than bias...

And I need valid points how SMOKING directly indicates a wayward woman...

health wise it isn't advice able ,we in Africa our climate is totally different from those in the western world ,and our culture don't see it as a normality for a woman to smoke

It beats my imagination how the FG sits by with reckless abandon and allow trained hands it trained or substantially subsidised their training to immediately graduate and head overseas to work there leaving their parents behind for others to care and attend to.

If you go overseas, you better take your family along, especially your parents. This is because nobody here will take you serious when you are overseas and start suggesting interventions when your parents get into health crisis. It happened recently with Dr Malaifa. Nigerian health care professionals who stay back mock them with "sebi it is us who can't go overseas to practice too and abandon our parents? ". Even if you are staying far from Nigeria because you are from a dysfunctional family system here at home, to avoid stories that touch, take your parents along or that Nigerian system you cheated will , sadly, consume them. I know few who come home only for funerals of their parents and it's sad listening to their accounts of how their parents die without reaping the benefits of having children who are healthcare professionals.

Those who stayed behind to develop and serve their fatherland could as well have left like you too. As we type here, Cuban health care professionals will hardly leave their country and considered one of the least paid in the world but for the love for their country and parents, they stay within their country and serve. Since all these years we have been "exporting " doctors, Pharmacists, Nurses etc overseas, we have never seen any of our 'exports' on Forbes list or rank high among wealthy Nigerians, making one to wonder if they are truly that successful financially overseas. I even see a few do better here than some overseas! So who is NMA fooling?

Honestly, I blame the FG for not putting measures in place to get value for taxpayers who they used their money to train the NMA members. It's completely unacceptable.

Not all men beat up their wives and that's true. And not all women stay I abusive relationships/marriages either. My roommate back in school was beaten up by her husband one time and she was admitted to the hospital because she became unconscious. After she was released from the hospital, she got her husband arrested and divorced him.

We have seen many stories here on nairaland where some men were arrested for beating up their wives.

you are very correct, things do occur daily even those we don't even hear of ,we have the good bad and ugly when it comes to relationship ,,. you are one of those few ladies on nairaland who can hold a discussion in a responsible manner keep it up..

I'm a lady but i think i see sense in what the op said. I can't count the number of time my mom made me feel guilty about all she has done for me if she send me on an errand and i no gree go but my dad that has made same countless sacrifice don't say such things. I love my mom...may God rest her soul but i think we ladies are guilty of this. What i don't understand is are we wired that way or why are we that way? It takes grace for a woman not to do this stuffs. I made a promise to always check myself so as not to be guilty of this but i think there are times i fail. I think it is just a way of us feeling important...maybe.

Let me share my recent experience

these few days I've been thinking of travelling, so I met a girl online and told her I was coming to her state. She told me she stays alone and I can come. She started liking me and all that. I told her I was coming this week, but im changing my mind already, recently share started asking me for money, that she is broke etc. And im like, all this because I said I was coming to your state and will stay at your place. I am only staying at your place oo, I don't need your food or your water, I won't even touch your fridge, I am buoyant enough to eat out. Besides, there is no way I can visit and not contribute. But the has started becoming a leach, and I am already out.

To add, I told her I was coming to do biz and was going to stay at my guys place, but she asked me to come to her place instead.
