Splinz: Like I did say in that thread, it depends on your relationship "status"- defined or undefined. Why are you in the relationship; for lust, love, friendship/companionship, marriage, etc? Also, what are the agreement/rules?
For instance, we're in love. An naturally as it always tend to lead, we promised to remain true to our love by being faithful to each other. And next on the line as it is common, we're planning marriage. But before I knew it, you woke up one morning and said, "I'm sorry, I can't continue in this relationship anymore", just like that.
What!??
Yes, truth is, you've broken our agreement & trust. In our internal court of justice, you've "used & dumped" me! And no matter the rational behind your decision, I'd naturally feel "used"!
NOTE: This is what I think of this topic. It does not applies to me, just an example. 100% Also, if we are to be committed in a serious relationship let it be clear. Some people automatically expect certain things or in fact make demands of the other person without prior communication on what exactly is going on between them |

Imagine if that empire exist today , the size it will be to accommodate for growth and population expansion . And it's impossible because the wall only covered bini city , a 16,000km length is far outrageous for a small city like bini city At the 19th century, we had no figure for the length of the bini wall. The 16,000km is only suggested, a suggestion based on no concrete theory |

I won't add Akure or Ondo because both kingdoms were in constant battles with Bini that there was never a significant period of Bini sovereignty. I won't add Lagos either because the only part held under Bini is the Enuwa area at the end of Aworiland |

dejavski: The major reason why most ppl disagree with naming the country Oduduwa republic is because he is not d founder of the Yoruba race. A more suitable name would be accepted. Mind u some yorubas are not direct descendants of Oduduwa. It doesn't matter if he is a direct ancestor or not. In yoruba culture a king is the father of the people In fact I have recently been informed that "Owa" (the title of many eastern yoruba kings) means Father... I don't know how true but we also see how "attah" means father in Igala (a people of very close common ancestry with Yoruba). Even though the attahs are of jukun origin Oduduwa is the father figure of all Yoruba, a revolutionary leader, a unifier, King of the source. Most towns and cities in yorubaland are founded by his sons or Princes who trace their lineage to his sons. Even itsekiri cannot deny his significance, from their Ijebu and Bini heritage they possess a connection to the man oduduwa even more than groups like Awori and Okun. |

They worship Okun (whom was the first wife of oduduwa that was later deified, a common practise in the Yoruba land, I.e osun, oba, osa, oya, are all women deified by naming a river or stream or ocean after each of them). I think they also worship esu, who also was a Yoruba man back then. I stand to be corrected. Almost all of Bini Gods are of Ilaje and Ife origin, from Olokun to Osun to Ogun to Ayilala. They also have Ifa (called Iha) Only the supreme God - Osanobua is native |

Rossikki: Yorubas - Sons of Ephraim
As stated in my books regarding the Igbos, the father of the Yoruba people, Oduduwa traveled with Gad’s sons, Eri, Areli and Arodi from North Africa, likely Egypt and settled in what today is known as Nigeria. This would coincide with Yoruba oral history that they believe to come from outside of West Africa and thus it would be no surprise that we might find Israelites, Hebrews and Jews among the Yoruba.
Oduduwa was said to be a descendant of Ham, through Nimrod also called Lamurudu, this according to Yoruba Christian Samuel Johnson in 1880. Sultan Bello, Caliph of Sokoto was quoted in 1820 by Hugh Clapperton to have said that the Yoruba people were descendants of a Canaanite tribe. And S.O. Obiaku a Nigerian Historian claimed the Yoruba’s to originate from the Sudan or what was known as Cush/Kush (Ethiopia).
However, some say “Yoruba” is a corruption of the name “Jacob” or in Hebrew, “Yacob.” Others assert that Yoruba is from “Yerubbaal,” the “People of Baal.”
But the current Yoruba Jewish population who claim to come from the Israeli tribe of Ephraim was said to have been driven to Yorubaland from Morocco by Muslims and eventually mingled with Yoruba people. These black Jews in southern Nigeria are called the "Emo Yo Quaim", or "Strange People", by the native Africans, but these black Jews call themselves, "B'nai Ephraim" or "Sons of Ephraim". These Jews who claim that their ancestors came from Morocco is supported by their language which appears to be a mixture of Maghrebi Arabic and local Negro speech. Thus abu (father) has become Yaaba, from the Hebrew word “Abba” and “Umm” (mother) is “Em” from the Hebrew, "Ima". Nevertheless, most of their language is similar to the Yoruba’s around them.
These Yoruba, “Sons of Ephraim” observe certain Jewish customs, among which are the great holy days, naming of children on the 8th day, etc. In almost every way, these black Jews are like the Yorubas, and are hardly distinguishable from them, except for some outstanding Hebrew observances.
But there is doubt whether any from this group exists today among the Yoruba.
There is a clan among the Yoruba People called the "Ijeeu," which is believed to be a corruption of the word “Hebrew” or “Jew.” They are looked down upon by the rest of the Yoruba for displaying Igbo-like character and traits, one of which is business prowess. There is even a town in Yorubaland called, "Ijuee-Igbo." Much if the Ijeeu people resent and deny this connection with them and Ndi Igbo.
http://www.hebrewigbo.com/yoruba---sons-of-ephriam.html Shut the fucck up! Stop spreading nonsense about the yoruba We have no tradition of coming from outside West Africa Claims of outside West Africa are not traditional but misguided recent hypothesis from pseudo-historians who refuse to be initiated |

Yes you are right about Owo and Oyo. Do you know the Ologho regalia is different from that of many Yorubas. His regalia is very similar to that of Benin's. The chieftaincy titles are also different from that of Oyo and very similar to Benin's. Owo like other Eastern Yorubas like Ijebu, Ilaje, Ondo, Owe, Oworo, Bunu, etc have so many kinds of local/regional traditional garments and fabrics that are different from the general Yoruba garments and fabrics.
Eastern Yoruba dialects are also very intriguing. In ondo state, some names of towns have been standardized in the Oyo/Ibadan variant of Yoruba. For example Owo- Ogho Idanre- Udanrhe Ile Oluji- Ule Oluji
Other names of towns like Ugbo, Ugbonla, etc have remained unchanged.
I just hope these dialects can continuously be spoken.
You are so right about the variations. Do you know that some Yoruba subgroups don't even have the obaship system or believe in oduduwa? Which Yoruba groups don't have obaship system or believe in oduduwa? |

LionDeLeo: OP, the ebiras from other places within Kogi central refer to only the ihima people as Yorubas, never heard of Adavi Eba. The people of Adavi eba are well recognised in Kogi central. Although I don't really understand why they call them Yorubas, I think it may not be unconnected with some of the traditions in that ihima. For instance, tribal mark (the single short horizontal mark on both sides of female cheeks), all those their eche ori and they understand yoruba language better than other parts of the senatorial zone. But note, they are fully recognised. Remember, Philip Salawu is from ihima.
But I think this is just assumption on the part of the ebiras because most important things from ihima are very related to ebira. Eg, the traditional head of ihima is The Ohi of ihima. Interesting "Ohi" could also be related to "ori" in Yoruba meaning head |
