@mcobex I don't have a question. Just want you to help vet my SOP. Will appreciate your help on this

@Kriff and @Ing123 I have been seeing your messages but sorry I don't attend to PMs at the moment. Feel free to ask whatever question you have here so others can contribute/learn.
My schedule is very tight at the moment, so I won't be able to do that now. Others can assist you. Hope you don't mind?

Hello everyone, Greetings to you all.

Please this is going to be my first time posting here.
Am 23 yrs old, graduated last year October B.sc Computer Science with a 4.79/5. Currently on NYSC, and would be through this year October.

I read the whole of part ten and currently reading from the beginning of this part 14.

I intend applying for a research based Masters in computer science with funding. After searching through the list of universities in Canada n their tuition fee for CSC.

I intend to apply to MUN, UBC, USASk and Queens university this September when admission application for fall 2019 begins.

However, MUN and Queens require contacting/getting a supervisor before applying.

My question is how do I go about this and when should I begin to contact them. And I hope my lack of work experience wouldn't be a disadvantage in getting funding?
I saw the links on "tips on contacting a supervisor" on the first page of every new part.
I have read it, and don't know if I just have to do what is written their alone, or if there r some other things I need to do.

Am just trying to be very careful and not make any mistakes. Your replies would be appreciated. Thanks.

Please any student from UBC, USASK , MUN or Queens university? Would also like to get in touch and ask for information regarding admission.

Thanks
Visit the CSC department page of each school you have in mind and look for the prof whose research interest is related or same as yours then email him and let him know you will like to be part of his team and tell him what you will be bringing to the team(sell yourself wella but don't be too desperate sha).
Also, you can start contacting them now as the earlier you do the better

@jnyuwa @frankrobbn1 @mcobex and all other experienced gurus

Pls, I did upfront medicals and same has been updated as passed since last Wednesday and eligibility review commenced just immediately , but since then I haven’t heard anything . I thought eligibility review doesn’t take longer than 72 hours if upfront medicals have been updated.

Pls what could be wrong my Ogas

And pls, can I send them mail for update on my application as it has also passed the normal 9 weeks just yesterday at the time of submission of my application because my school resumes by September .

Pls advise me accordingly. Thank you all

goingforward , my good MALE friend , where are you
Eligibility can take as long as CIC wants, so don't be scared about the delay. But since your app has exceeded the processing time you are free to contact CIC, just send them a message stating you will like to know how far your app has gone since it has exceeded the processing time and school will resume soon(do it politely). You can send it to their Lagos office as people here said they respond faster than others(check previous pages for the email address). Best of luck

Farm business...
Sorry for the late response. first make sure you have enough cash in your account(personal/company), then try to explain on your sop as much as you can that you run a company but yet to register it. Adding company's recept and rent papers will go a long way as well. Just try and add anything that shows the company exist and do the rest on your sop.

Hi guys.. I guess I've turned to a silent reader since my refusal but I see great things happening and I'm so happy for all the TRV approval recipients.

I have a question and I'm hoping my people here can drop there own perspectives on it.

Assuming I've been working for myself for like 7 years.. No company registration, no pay slip... How else can I prove that regarding a study gap .

Thanks .
Do you have anything to show that you are into the said business? like proof of transaction.
Also, what kind of business is it?

If it is earsier to tackle and he has been working 20 years in the field, shouldn’t it have been self evident to the VO in the first place? This tells me that is not an issue of progression, but more on convincing the VO that he would actually attend school and excel in school after all these years. Last time I checked he reserves the right to take your opinions so please easy on him.
He studied computer science and has been working in an IT firm but wants to go for a management course now. What he needs to do is either go for masters in computer science or something related or explain deep why he is going for a management course now(I think it is related to his current job). Let him order for his GCMS file and I bet you the issue won't be on the gap but on the course he was going for.

When I see multiple invite from Nairaland, I know someone don cast something. Lol. How una Dey?

As I have always plead, student applicant are advised to check express entry. Trust me, The benefits are more than lower school fees.

For those going for masters without scholarship and would like to get a professional job afterwards, please volunteer and network well when schooling. Use your 20hrs/week off-campus permitted work to explore causal or part time professional employment in your field/desired organization. For those with scholarship, it is Kuku not your money. Otherwise, IMO, same advise apply. I am sorry to break the news, “man-know-man” dey Canada but they call it referral.

All the best.
Welcome back Oga boss, long time.

The desire to be lucky is universal. I can remember we argued and debated on the above subject matter ABOUT APPLICANTS HAVING STUDY GAPS
I hope this will stand as a clear evidence that 10 years study gaps will not pose to be a reason for a visa refusal once there is strong correlation between your intended program and current job role. Do your part by presenting a rational explanation letter, then hope and pray to be favoured by the whimsical Goddess of Good luck.

Cc: kpizzle
I tire bro, I was even trying to explain how he can tackle it and he just didn't want to hear. And the painful thing is he has been working for those 20 years which makes it even more easier to tackle. Well, it's one of those things
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 14 by mcobex: 7:57pm On Aug 11, 2018
I don't want to say anything about the study gap issue again (after this). If you have even 20 years gap after your first degree(BSc) and have been working for those years you have every right to apply for something higher than BSc (MSc) in a field related to your BSc course/ current job and you stand a very high chance of getting your TRV.
I REST MY CASE.

@mcbex: I didn't intend to draw your attention to this and am not trying to misinform people here. I have done my research and I not not trying to scare anyone. I stand to be correct "it is more difficult to get study permit if the applicant has more 5 yrs study gap" even if your intended course of study over- match the previous one.

Many people can not tell why they have been refuse even after doing all the needful when they applied. In one of my previous post. , I mentioned the VOs are not sentimental but professional, they have templates and guidelines. I am extremely sure that study gap is one of them irrespective of other conditions or factors.

I totally agree with you that SOP is a way out but menh that SOP must be "bulletproof".
Bro o don't think you understand what I was trying to say on this matter. Haven't you been working during the 10 years(study gap)? If you have, then it's not a gap cos you are working. Your case if I remember is, you studied computer science and working in an IT firm(related field) but wants to go for a management course now, right? You don't have a gap, once you can link your intended program with your previous course/current job your chances will increase or better still you apply for masters in computer science or something related to your current job.
That's what I have been trying to explain.
Explain your case to me if I didn't get it right above

dinho10,

Though I am not a visa officer. But, i'll advise you don't push in such application because you will refused based on your purpose of visit. Your study gaps (4 years while at the University), how do you intend to address it to the visa officer? I beseech you save yourself the stress of paying admission application fees, visa fees etc... and go for a degree that is higher than your already completed degree i.e either by opting for a masters or PGD/C as the case maybe.
Deride not what I say because of its simplicity. Truth is always simple.

All the best!
To add to what Frank said, going for 2 years masters qualifies you for 3 years post graduate work permit which will be enough for you to do whatever you want to do.

TBH it is a challenge if you have study gap of above 5yrs. I have 10 yrs and have been denied twice. I am not giving up because I believe even if it is 1% chance,I will make sure I give it my best shot.

Just get ready for the roller coaster ride and try as hard as u can.
I am not suppose to respond to this again but let me just do it so others can learn from it. The 10 years study gap you have isn't a problem cos you have not been idle during that period, you have around 10 years working experience and that's even a plus to you. Go for a course related to your job experience/BSc degree and your visa will be granted.
Cc: @ jolowizzy11 : what have you been doing since graduation from secondary school? NIIT diploma is ok but after acquiring that what have you been doing(working or what)? if you have been busy working(paid or volunteering) then state it. All the vo wants to see is that you have not been idle after your secondary school and diploma

Good Afternoon House,

Please is it possible to defer an admission after visa approval.

For instance. Visa approved in say October or November 2018 and Program starts in January 2019

Can one write to the school to defer the admission till May 2019 due to some personal reason.

Your kind contributions will be appreciated based on previous experience.
Yes you can as long as the school have May session. Not all schools have programs in May, so try to confirm that from the school

1) BSC in computer science
2) have been working since I left school no single layoff or no work period.
3) worked in related field (telecoms)
4) applied for masters in management science.
Requirement is basically maths and stat

I mentioned that "purpose is visit" is the problem. Finance is fine, progression is fine, work opportunity is fine, home tie is fine. Etc.
Since you have been working then you have no gap. Try to get masters admission for computer science or something related to it or try to prove to the vo how computer science is related to management science (though it will be hard to do).
You will have a better chance if you go for something related to counter science (since that's what you studied and practicing at the moment). Best of luck

Hello Gurus,

I have 10 yrs study gap and have been refused twice. I have applied for GCMS note after my 2nd refusal and i am still waiting for it. The summary reason for refusal is 1) purpose of visit 2) travel history

it is obvious am refused based on my huge study gap. And i already know that a strong SOP should be able to tackle it.

I need suggestion and sensitization from people with knowledge or history of tackling study gap for over 5 yrs
What did you do within that period? What's your highest qualification? and what is your intended program?

pls, going by the trend of applications you've come across. After 'UPFRONT' medicals has been updated, how long does it take for them to determine one's eligibility?
My eligibility started yesterday and I'm kinda curious and anxious
No specific timeframe, just be hopeful and pray the vo is fast about it and above all favour you. If it were to be medical on request, CIC will update your profile to medical pass and approval(from 3 days and above )

I recently joined this thread. My company has offered to sponsor my MSc program at U of S. Please gurus in the house what are documents required, are there additional documents that are needed because I'm not sponsored by an individual. The company also plans to transfer the required amount of money to my bank account. If anyone has a similar experience, kindly send me a pm. Thank you.
1. A letter of support from the company stating they are sponsoring you and the amount they will be committing towards it. they should also state of you will be promoted on your return or the post you will take up (not too important but I will advise they say it)
2. Statement of account from the company
3. Leave letter for the duration of your program
Then on your part, include your employment letter, payslip, ID, your own statement of account (not too important in this case since your company will cover all expenses but I will strongly advise you include it even if the money in it is small)

@dubaiboy1 Sorry for the delay bro, what's the relationship between your proposed course and your current job and previous degree (that's if you are going for post graduate program now)? Try and order for your GCMS file asap and refire. Try to contact your school as well to let them know your app has been delayed and let them tell you what next to do(like deferring your admission and the next possible session for you).

This is so that I can conclude with my travel plans accordingly. I will be looking forward to hearing from you soon so as to make further preparations.

Good day everyone, my visa was denied last month, and my school starts September 4. It’s obvious I can’t meet up so I asked for a defer, unfortunately for me the next intake in my course is till September 2019.

My Question is, if I should get the school defer letter of 2019 now, can I apply now ? How early can I apply? Will the embassy refuse because of the date is far? I wouldn’t mind being in Canada ,working or doing any skill am good in, while I wait for my school to start in September 2019.

Thanks
You can apply for your TRV against fall 2019 now and it won't be a propblem. But it is not advisable to start working before your school resume.
My advise to you is first request for your GCMS file now(since you still have time), take time to perfect all your flaws(after going through your GCMS file) and reapply. Once you secure TRV you can wait till let's say 2 months to resumption then you travel.

It seems that what keeps most online applications pending for long is background check, how is it that background check for paper applications are done fasterhuh? huh huh huh. Aren't they accessing the same database for security checks?

I don't think the route has anything to do with the processing time. It's more about the vo in charge of your app, some visa officers rush their work while others take their time to check. The prayer now should be getting a vo that will favour you(no matter the time it takes)
