inspbado: Abuja is now the capital of Nigeria for some few years now, why has bwari, Nupe, Hausa and Fulani music (the original settlers of the land) not blown? At least they are enjoying federal government patronage, and other tribes' are flocking to the city, so their entertainment should have leveraged on this? Take it nor leave it, Yorubas are naturally entertainers. We are creative people, we thrive in the creative space, it is culturally inbuilt Your analysis is shallow and lacks depth. How old is Abuja? Lagos has been in existence since pre-colonial times and the commercial capital for almost hundred years. You cannot compare the amount of investments in the economic and social life in Lagos with that of Abuja or any part of Nigeria! |

The real secret is that virtually all the musicians listed were /are playing either pure Highlife or Highlife-inspired genre of music. From Bobby Benson, Fela Kuti (he was in Ghana from 1967-69 to learn Highlife and later Afrobeat), Ebenezer Obey, etc.. Even the so-called 'Afrobeats' of Wizkid, Davido, Mr Eazi, PSquare, Flavour, are all heavily influenced by Highlife music!
Apart from the Yoruba, the biggest musicians from the older generation from the East, South South e.g. Osadebe, Oliver, Uwaifo, Rex Lawson, etc were all Highlife musicians! Nigeria has benefitted from Highlife music, and her biggest success in music so far comes from Highlife music! |

Sixsigmahub: A male graduate who recently got a job in a company shares a story of how the boss of his new company turns out to be the girl he dumped ten years ago because she was uneducated.
On this article, he reveals that the boss in the company was the same girl he dumped many years ago when he gained admission into the university because she was not properly educated at the time he gained admission into the university.
He felled guilty and didn’t know how to ask her how she became so rich that she owned a company.
Read his story:
This world is just a small world, i can’t believe myself, it seems like I’m dreaming.
I just discovered that a lady that i broke up with about 10 years ago, because she was not properly educated is the owner of the company I’m currently working as one of the marketers.
We started dating when i was in SS1 and she was in JSS3, but she was dull, sometimes i used to teach her to some extent but unfortunately after that, she will forget all that i taught her.
Though we were normal until when i got admission into the university, after my first year, i began to hang out with other girls in the school, it was this time i started comparing her with them.
Then she doesn’t know how to speak good English although she genuinely loved and never asked for anything from me but since i have met with other girls, who were outspoken and beautiful too, i thought it was the best time to leave her.
During my ND2, i made up my mind to breakup with her and move on since there are many beautiful and educated girls in campus. So one day i picked my phone and called her and told her about the new development, i was like i can’t be dating someone who is not educated enough, while I’m about to become a graduate.
She cried and cried, pleading with me to stay with her that she will definitely improve soon. but i had made up my mind to leave, i stopped calling her, even when she called or texted, i didn’t take her calls or replied her messages.
Boom i started dating a lady called Amaka, i felt like i had finally met my match, because she was educated and beautiful too, but unfortunately before my graduation we broke up over an unresolved misunderstanding.
After my service, i decided to change location in order to start a new life, i started applying for job, luckily after some months, i got a job but the salary was not much because i had lots of responsibilities to take care of.
I worked for the company for 7 years before i decided to quit and look for another job because the former job was not encouraging, i was only managing all these years.
I searched for a job for almost one year, then one Monday morning, i got a call from one of the companies, i submitted my CV and was told to come for interview immediately, i had to rush there, the interview was successful, that’s how i started working but i noticed a strange movement after two months of working in the company.
I was promoted, while other workers who have been there before i was employed never received any. I was transferred to the headquarter, unknowingly to me that it was all planned by the same lady i dumped many years ago.
The next morning when i got to the office, she sent for me and i was like “what’s happening, at first i got promoted, now director wants to see me”. I walked to her office but couldn’t remember her because it has been years and i never expected her to be in such position.
The moment i got to her office, she mentioned my native name which i knew i have never used since i travelled out of my state.
I received the shock of my life when she revealed that she’s the same girl i dumped many years ago when i gained admission into the university. I was short of words because i have worked for the company for three months, definitely i have received salary three times from the same girl, i dumped simply because she’s not properly educated.
I was guilty and didn’t know how to ask her how she became so rich that she owned a company.
I only pleaded with her not to sack me because i had no other job to rely on, but even as that I’m not comfortable with the work because I’m ashamed of myself.
Sometimes it pays to be patience with one another whether educated or not educated. Don’t look down on anyone because no one knows tomorrow.”
https:///the-girl-i-dumped-years-ago-became-my-boss-at-work/ How could you gain admission to the University and then you dumped her when you were at ND2? Do you have ND in the University? |

middlebelter: From the above figure, it is obvious that states like Kano, Yobe, Borno, Sokoto, etc. will find it difficult to survive if we embrace true fiscal federalism. Ogun state is a privileged state unfortunately the successive Governors have failed to take full advantage of its contiguous location.Ogun should be generating nothing less than N100b IGR pa.
Akwa Ibom and Delta can do better. The states should provide more infrastructure to attract private investors. Kogi should make sure AJaokuta Iron and Steel Industry is completed and promised by FGN. Benue, a bridge across Niger/Benue river from Lokoja will certainly boost trade and economic activities in the state if the herdmen will allow it. VAT should be shared between the FG and the states! Lagos was made what it is today by FG investments in Lagos! I can even understand Rivers, because it has oil. Lagos had NOTHING if not for FG investments in the state that made it a commercial hub. Now, LASG wants to pretend as if they are the brains behind the current status of the state as a commercial or economic hub. Revenue from other parts of the country (especially oil money) was used to develop Lagos. In the same vein, some of the revenue from Lagos (after it had been developed by the FG into a commercial hub generating huge revenue and VAT) will be used to develop other places. until when every other state is developed to a level People should stop the crass ignorance, hypocrisy and selfish thoughts! The VAT should be shared between FG and states. For instance, how could Lagos claim ownership of VAT from operations (e.g. import duty) at the seaports and airports that were constructed 100% by FG? How many major roads in Lagos were constructed and are being maintained by the state government? |

look at Nigeria today no state is less than 20 years old so what are you saying If your parents had invested heavily in you, to see you through primary and university education and you become a professor, it is your responsibility to give back to your parents for as long as they live. You cannot give any deadline or ultimatum to that. If they had not sponsored your education, you would not have become successful to make money and brag around as a professor or business man or whatever! They can decide to give the money you give them to any of your other siblings. That is their prerogative. If FG had not invested in Lagos, there was no way Lagos could be talking about generating the revenue and VAT we are talking The FG investments in Lagos continue to attract businesses and generate income, including VAT on daily basis. The FG sowed into Lagos and other states and deserves to continue to reap from their investments in Lagos |

ajl: Which FG investment are you talking about. The FG that can't even rehabilitate a single road in Lagos. Now they give companies like Dangote tax credit to construct road or indirectly force state to rehabilitate the road and collect refund for money spent by state is headache. Do you know what a federation mean? The northern states has all they need to promote business activities in their state. They should use their head. They want to continue to collect money from people they claim to be living haram. Hypocrisy! Are you kidding me? How many major roads in Lagos were actually constructed and funded by LASG? FG did most of the major roads in Lagos. Ikorodu road, Lagos-Abeokuta road, etc. Carter bridge, 3rd mainland bridge, Marina, Apapa port, airport, Tin Can, stadium, etc Do you know the impact these infrastructure have on business opportunities in Lagos? Lagos was developed by the FG, and not by LASG, so don't be deceived! Same for places like Rivers, Abuja etc. Without FG development projects in Lagos from the 50s to 90s, Lagos would not have many businesses to generate the income and VAT that we are talking about. Calabar used to be the capital of Nigeria but the FG invested more in Lagos, that is why it is richer than Calabar today! |

eldoradoxx: People often make reference to multi billion naira VAT from alcoholic drinks as though it is the the only product that attracts VAT. The items that attract VAT is uncountable. All the soft drinks, juice just name, all the goods inside supermarkets and shopping malls u see all attract VAT. When you recharge your phone, u pay VAT. What about when you pay ur TV subscription, electricity recharge or bills, all banking transactions etc. The goods and services that attract VAT is inexhaustible. That is why I keep wondering why the North feels that it is cheated whenever issue of VAT is mentioned. Actually VAT is paid on consumption of goods and services within a state as a source of revenue for the State to use to provide services like road, electricity etc for you the consumer. But due to our feeding bottle federalism where States converge at Abuja every month to share money from oil, States have forgotten that their secret goldmine is VAT and they have to do everything possible to collect it. Now Wike has woken a sleeping nation. I commend him. This is the quality of brain Nigeria needs to grow honestly. I don't agree that the FG alone should collect VAT, but we have to be fair to other states who did not enjoy the kind of investments that FG made in states like Lagos and Rivers. The status of Lagos as a commercial city is due mainly to investments by FG when Lagos was the federal capital....the roads, sea ports, airport, headquarters of industries/companies, embassies, etc. So LASG alone cannot pretend to be the brain behind the commercial activity and transactions that generate VAT in the state. They already have PAYE tax to themselves. VAT should be shared between states and FG. |

osuofia2: This bill is pure wickedness directed against the North. The FG should be responsible for the collection of VAT and then distribute it to various state according to populations and no of LGA. The south should know that all lands belongs to God. If the SW follow the step and position of other southern states as regards the vat and open grazing then They should kiss goodbye to presidency come 2023. The real wickedness and evil is that the population figures and number of local governments is already manipulated and skewed to favour the north. Nigeria is probably the only country where people in the northern part of the Sahara are more in population than people in the southern sub-Sahara. There is much fraud in the population figures because the figures are not tied to projections for tax revenue. The more the population, the higher the tax revenue should be. If truly the north has greater population, then the new VAT ruling should be to their advantage. Some states are against setting up breweries and drinking alcohol, but they are collecting VAT revenue generated from the sale and consumption of alcohol in other states! That is hypocrisy and could be annoying! |

myami: https://pmnewsnigeria.com/2021/09/06/open-grazing-vat-bills-scale-second-reading-at-lagos-assembly/ Lagos State should stop all this gragra nonsense. The VAT should be shared between the FG and the States. Most of the commercial activity in Lagos is because the FG invested heavily n the state when it was the federal capital. It is not by the making of the state government. Investments like the sea ports, airports, headquarters of banks etc. that are generating business and income for Lagos state are all due to FG investments and policies. The biggest roads in Lagos were constructed by the FG. Just Imagine a Lagos without 3rd mainland bridge. The LASG did virtually little or nothing about those investments, so they should stop behaving as if they are more knowledgeable or more competent that others Same with places like Abuja. The best solution is for the FG and States to agree to a sharing formula for VAT. Otherwise, the FG would manipulate the Supreme Court and the judgement by the high court in Rivers would be quashed, then back to square one! It is not proper for the FG alone to keep VAT revenue all to itself, and it is equally wrong for the states to do same! |

Kandeed: I better remain unemployed than consider a 20 - 40k job I mean what on Earth is that? money??
it's even much better you look for an empty bag of rice and start sourcing for iron around least you'd make quite much weekly You could say this probably because you have a family or friends to support you. You would surely apply for the job if poverty and hunger attack you well and you don't have anyone to support you. My advice to the OP: If you don't have any family/friend to support you, please pick one of the jobs. Start small and work very hard. God is there to reward your efforts. I remember after I finished NYSC and was jobless for more 2 years. The worst part of my case was that I was being humiliated and disgraced publicly by my blood sister, who used every opportunity at her disposal to make me feel useless and worthless because I was jobless. Imagine your sister shouting, insulting and abusing you a grown up guy as early as 5am in a compound house, all because of joblessness. She would measure everything (food etc.) in the house before leaving for work and warn me (in a very loud voice) never to touch any food in the house! Luckily, I got job in Lagos Island in 1999 with a pay of about N6,000 per month. I was living at Akowonjo. I could only afford molue in those days. I did that for more than a year and got another job in VI for N8,000 per month. I slept in the office during the week on countless occasions in order to avoid transport and save some money. I wrote my ICAN and passed after 3 years. I was attending ICAN classes at Maryland and going back at night to sleep in the office at VI. Today, I earn above the median of six digits, but I had to start from somewhere. Please start little, avoid expensive friends/friendships/ girlfriends/etc, social events, party, shows etc. Just focus on you career goal, work and study hard and you would be surprised how God would change your story. Career › Re: Is Data Analytics A Promising Career Path? by mikeapollo: 11:00am On Aug 16, 2021 |
ajoke1824: I sincerely hope this hits frontpage as I need as many sensible responses as possible.
This is going to be a really long one.
I'm a 21 year old penultimate student of one of Nigeria's federal universities.
I'm one of those, I can never work under a boss. I'd rather have my own business people. However, this choice took a different turn the relationship I thought was going to lead me through the isle ended in the mud. I eventually figured out that my decision to own my own business and not get a job were influenced by three things:
1. My life was wrapped around the guy I was in a relationship with. I didn't really have a life of my own. My ambition when I was with him was mostly to start a business, finish my first degree, and be a sit-at-home mum and wife. I kicked against getting a second degree and even rejected two sponsorships to relocate to Canada because I wanted to be with my man (my mumu no get part two that time).
2. I saw how badly my mom was treated at her place of work by her boss(es). I'd usually get angry and eventually vowed never to get a job.
3. I considered myself someone who's not brilliant and smart enough for the cooperate world. (Low self-esteem).
The nonsense relationship ended in a terrible way but I eventually picked up myself and moved on. Now, I'm beginning to love the cooperate world but choosing a career path has become a headache. I've been totally confused. Some of my classmates are taking ICAN and ACCA. Some are also taking CFA courses (I'm studying economics) but I have no interest in CFA, ICAN or ACCA.
I spoke with a friend of mine and he advised me to consider data analysis but I have my doubts and fears. So many questions have been ringing in my head.
How do I choose a career path that I don't eventually get frustrated with at the end of the day?
How promising is Data analysis as a career path?
What's the average pay in this field.
I'd really love to thread a path where I have even the slightest spark of passion but I can't seem to connect my passion with data analysis.
Is passion important in choosing a career path?
It feels like I've been wasting my life all these years on a man so much that the only passions I have are:
1. Writing (I earned a few naira notes during the lockdown from this) 2. Hair styling (I fantasize about this and even beg people to let me make their hair) 3. Selling (I really love to sell)
What else? Nothing.
If I'm going to be sincere and truthful to myself, those three things are the only things that truly make sense to me when it comes to earning but I feel I should do more and spend some time in the cooperate world.
Wait, tell me y'all understand what I wrote up there because my mind is all over the place right now and I don't know what to think anymore.
Thank you in advance. As a young 21 year old girl at level 300 studying Economics, this my candid advice: 1. Get a very good grade in Economics e.g. 2:1 or first class (at worst, a 2:2) 2. Get into ACCA (it has global recognition but more expensive) or go for ICAN 3. Then acquire Data Analytics to support your career and be multi-skilled. (you would be in much better position to reap the benefits/value in data analytics when you combine it with professional qualification/competence as a chartered accountant with BSc in Economics). Data Analytics can be applied to various specialized fields e.g. business, IT, medicine, etc. but is much better to be an expert/ core professional in the subject area and then add data-analytics to complement your skill-set, enhance your employability, versatility, ability to change job/career etc. Don't make the mistake of over-relying on only data analytics by neglecting the other core disciplines e.g. accounting/economics. It is much better to have very good understanding of the subject area so that you could interpret and possibly take decision on the report generated from your data analytics. You would be a hot cake if you can combine BSc Economics, ACCA and Data Analytics. (CFA will be the crown of it all, especially if you want to work in a financial institution) |

Players like Rabah Marker, Abedi Pele, Titi Camara were way better than Okocha. Go and ask if you don't know. Football is not just about useless dribbling without productive results;, it is more about the ability to carry a team on your shoulders and make the difference when it matters most. That is what makes a great player and Okocha lacked those qualities. He only likes to play to the gallery to be hyped. He lacks speed , was a selfish; and not a good team player and his goal scoring was nothing to write home about ! Even in France, PSG fabs would tell you that Abedi was 10 times better than Okocha |

He is only held in high regards by Nigerians out of sentiment.
Before you come to my mention and start countering with emotions, ask yourself......

bjdon: Thank you! This is why I always say the blackman is confused. There are more Palestinian Christian's than Israeli Christians. The birthplace of Jesus is actually in Palestine not Israel. Israel is a Jewish state, yet CAN blindly support them. It is irrelevant whether there are more Christians in Palestine (or any other country) than in Israel! Any nation that rises against Israel cannot consider itself a Christian state. Virtually all the prophets in the Bible (and even the Koran) were jews from Israel -Moses, David, Solomon, Isaiah, Elijah, Job etc. Jerusalem was referred to as the City of David. Now, the Palestinians are claiming that Jerusalem is their land. How could any objective and right thinking person now claim that Jerusalem belongs to Arabs? Palestinians are making reference to historical events of 1948 and 1967 but the Jews (Israelis) are making reference to history in the Holy Bible, thousands of years ago, before 1948 and 1967. They know the history of their land and have vowed never to let their land be taken by the Arabs |

ridwanmasculinn: No Israel Before 1948 After the Second World War, European Christians rejected the Jews. Many of them were banished from Europe. They sought refuge in Africa, especially Uganda. Uganda was not comfortable for them. They sought refuge among Arab Muslims in the Middle East. As adherents of an Abrahamic religion, they got haven in Sham (Palestine, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon). A majority of them settled in Palestine. Mind you, there was nothing like Israel, let alone Tel Aviv, before this time. I don't garnish my writings with ambiguities. Let me state it clearly: before 1948, Israel was not on the world map. Ask any sincere scholar in the field of international politics diplomacy; they will tell you. Today, Israel is waging war against their hosts. Palestinians are paying the heavy price for accommodating Jews on their land. Unfortunately, those who do not know history are wrongly accusing Palestine of aggression. Tell me the crime in defending one honour, dignity and fatherland. Put yourselves in their shoes; what would you do? You will fold your arms and watch those land grabbers and occupiers take over your property? So are you saying there was never ''Jerusalem, Beersheba'' etc. before 1948? Where did David and Solomon rule and build the Temple? Why are people still going on pilgrimage to the Biblical sites in Israel? Are you saying the Bible only contains history from 1948? The Israelis were dispersed from their land and they have returned to land that belongs to them. It is even an insult for the Arabas to demand that they want East Jerusalem as their capital! |
