Christianity EtcRe: The Expressway Churches by MsTom(f): 5:35pm On Feb 02, 2010
Not all 'men of God' are christians. Bible talked about false prophet. That is where the responsibilty of reading our bible and practising it and applying it with wisdom and understanding comes in. Do not believe all what you see or hear. Go back to the bible and search for proofs. That is what the first christians did. they went back to their bibles to see if what the apostles taught them was true or not. But then, most christians nowadays are lazy and only hear what the pastors say. whether true or false. remeber, they are human. they can make mistakes(if they are true) and they can deceive one( if they are false).

Dont know if anyone watches law and order SVU, Ice-T character name on there is Det. Odafin "Fin" Tutuola. The character's name is taken from the book The Palm Wine Drinkard by Amos Tutuola, and the father's name(from the introduction) was Odafin. See how far that book went.

No one should blame the govt here. The problem is not only in nigeria, it occurs everywhere, even in the states. Most parents are so busy doing 2 or more jobs in the bid to pay their bills. Or in the case of nigeria, you spend valuable times in traffic, trying to go home. The children are left with the TV, video games or illiterate maids and cell phones to while away the time. They dont know what novels are anymore. If you mention books, they think of school. Now, depending on what school you send your child to, the child would dislike going to school cos of the influence. Now, they are raised with TVS and not parents.
When I was growing up, we had time for TV. It started at 8pm and ended at 10pm which is from the time to watch soap operas and ends immediately after the network news which we were forced to watch. And when watching the tv, at least an adult was with us. Nowadays, kids watch cartoons( most of which have adult content) without an adult present. No one to encourage them to read. Even if they do have assignements, the parents are not there to help them with it. Cos they are not there. Guess what, the kids go to school the next day and copy themselves. With this thread, tell me, what happens to the next generation who would be equiped with more sophisticated electronic gadgets and more "exciting" video games (some of which are already in 3D).
What can the government do? In most western countries, they have free education and people donate books and yet the reading culture is going down. I believe it is up to the parents to close the generation gap. They have to be involved in the childrens' reading culture.

PS: Looking to get the palmwine drinkard. Where can I get this? Pleaseeeeeeeee

Why can't the US and EU spell out what exactly they want done ? They should
stop beating about the bush.
Why should we let them tell us? enough of the insult. We have smart people in this country and we as a nation know what to do. Those who mis-interprete the constitution needs to stop playing nigerians for a fool. Let them just tell nigerians their intentions. Thought Nigeria was practising democracy but what I see is a military rule. Men in agbadas ruling the nation the military way. Take it or leave it way.

@becomricch,

Ask yourself these questions. Is benin republic ready to take the yorubas? Are the yorubas ready for war with the ethnic groups that benefit from a one nigeria (hausas). I cant see the Yorubas leaving unless the Igbos are ready to leave as well and when both yorubas and igbos are ready to unite as one to fight the north. But then, can the yorubas and igbos come together to fight the hausas? Are there traitors amongst us?

To me, your theories are easier said than done.

haba where did you get that stat from . Not in the US O!!! The DV system does not account for illegal immgration. legal migrants earn the same as the average american ( bear in mind that only 20-30% of americans have a college education, most only have high school which the average DV person either has or more than) they are as such not cheap labour.

Illegal immigrants on the other hand get paid below the minimum wage. America doesnt want them but they can't do with out them one of the reasons America is one of the least expensive DEVELOPED nations to live in
So true. If you are legal, you earn as much as the american citizens if not more, depending on your education and experience. If you are not legal, you get whatver comes your way. It is that simple.
HealthRe: Evil Nurses & Doctors In Nigerian Public Hospitals by MsTom(f): 6:36pm On Jan 28, 2010
atise:
Being a medic, i can't but respond to some of the stories that i have read here.

they are really horrible tales. and i really do sympathize with every one who has a similar story to tell.

i deal with children, the most vulnerable specie of patients, so i can give no excuse. However what is most galling to me is the hate talk in some of the posts! painting all Drs and nurses as if they are demons! AS THERE ARE BAD MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS, THERE ARE ALSO GOOD ONES!

i work with some of them (good ones) in my hospital daily. drs that donate blood for patients they dont know; that offset bills of patients who cant afford their discharge; that pay for drugs and investigations for patients that cant afford them, I know them.

i have kids, and when treating patients, i always ask myself 'if these were my kids, would i treat them like so?'

i can give many excuses why medical practice in Nigeria is a living hell, but there is no need. Our country does not value human life, , we must strive not to end up like it. this should serve as a wake up call to all drs and nurses who may act negatively to patients. u might be one someday, how would u like to be treated.

there are good medics out there, quite a number

i try my best daily to be one,
Thank you very much. God will greatly reward you. My sister is also a doctor and a good one too. she donates blood, help the patients in her own way too. But then, the majority of the bad ones, have given me that phobia. I understand what the good doctors/nurses face too. The frustration can lead to all these maltreatment towards patients. No electricity (heard sometimes they operate with candles)- really bad, Regardless, I still have the phobia cos the ones you see arent always your family or friends or especially the good ones.
EducationRe: 87 Students Bag First Class In UNILAG by MsTom(f): 3:56pm On Jan 28, 2010
[quote Whats the big deal?  When I finished from OAU some years back, there were 6 First class students in just my class alone! And they were all worth it.  Even most of the folks who made 2:1 would have made distinctions outside the shores of this country!

To give you an idea of what happened to the 6 of them after OAU?

1- Msc UCL (London) -now  a Manager in MTN
2- MBA- University of Chicago - Now a Senior Consultant with McKinsey
3- Msc-Houston, MBA- Rice University- Senior Advisor with Chevron
4- Msc- Case Western-Ohio- Senior Consultant with Africa Finance Corporation
5- Msc- UCL - Engineer with NNPC
6- Msc- Texas A&M, MBA-UT,  Senior Engineer at National Instruments

Never underrate First Class students from 1st generation Nigerian Universities!

It just requires consistent performance throughout . If you invest effort in it, you will get it!

Even a third class from a last generation university in nigeria can have their masters outside of nigeria and can
graduate summa cum laude. In nigeria, we are forced to study with candle lights,
no materials, no internet, lecturers go on indefinite strikes etc. and yet we graduate. Imagine going to other countries
with all the resources and same efforts or sometimes less as the one put in nigeria.

Nigerian educational system is way tougher and better than all others but unfortunately, we
are faced with lack of basic infrstructures. Nigerians are naturally brilliant and can exhibit their wealth
if given the opportunity.

HealthRe: Evil Nurses & Doctors In Nigerian Public Hospitals by MsTom(f): 3:37pm On Jan 28, 2010
A reason I would never be a nurse no matter how much money it brings in. The nurses and doctors in nigeria have non- chalant attitudes. Like they dont like the job they are doing. I bet the same would go for those outside nigeria too if not for the law suits. No wonder, I still have the pictures of nigerian nurses at the back of my head when I see doctors and nurses here. The best thing I discovered in this is for one to be aware of their own health and read about what you need to do. Cos these so- called doctors and nurses even those here know nothing. Sometimes, one need to give hints on what they need to check out,

Good to know you are safe for tonite. I wondered how he found out your addy. First of all, block all contacts with him. Have a male friend or your brother talk some sense to him- if possible threathen him with the police. All you need do is give them money. They'll follow them to deal with the guy. Meanwhile, remain out of contact with the guy. Dont worry. He is just trying to frighthen you in a relationship and you can imagine the kind of relationship that would be.

For those who dont believe stuffs like that happen in naija, it does. Some guys can be obsessive.

Poverty can cause terrorism. But that was not the case of mutallab.  He was mis-guided due to some emotional needs in his life. Evident in his social networking account.
Let us not decieve ourselves. Terrorism is fast brewing in Nigeria. Have you not noticed that these al qaeda leaders are rich and the people they use for these suicide bombs are either poor or the youth? Why are there thugs or area boys in Lagos? What people do depends on what they are brain washed with or how deep they are in the brain washing.

RomanceRe: What Would You Do If a girl you dont like Hits On You ?? by MsTom(f): 9:06pm On Jan 20, 2010
Dont understand the line of this questioning. It is like asking what a lady should do if a guy she doesnt like hit on her. Of cos she would say NO!. Is he gonna be hurt, YES!
Better hurt now than going in on pretence to later tell her that you were not just that into her. By then, she would be in a stage where she could use any sharp object to let you know how much you hurt her!
FamilyRe: Infidelity In A New Marriage by MsTom(f): 8:50pm On Jan 20, 2010
harakiri:
@Poster

the time-tested ways to keep a woman faithful in marriage is these:

1.Stop being TOOO nice and gentlemanly
2.You have to CHEAT on her.Women who have cheating husbands are stressed out always and never have time to look at another man
3.never REACt in anger with her.always keep your calm. She will go nuts trying to fathom why her husband doesnt give a damn about the things she does
4.DONT show overt jealousy. You will look weak.If she says she wants to go somewhere, let her go .Dont ask too many questions. You will be surprised she will reduce going out cos she will think you are letting her go so that you can be with another woman.TRY this,it ALWAYS works like magic!
5.Give her GREAT sex.If you are lacking, polish up your act.Give it to her like she will never get elsewhere
6.Make sure she is ALWAYS satisfied sexually.Boring sex is a relationship killer

FINALLY

DO NOT confront her about the 3rd phone.Keep your cool.Pretend nothing happened.Do NOT investigate like people are advising you.Relationships today, including MARRIAGE is a war-front.Forget this hogwash about love.Strategise. then you WIN.
Either she mends her ways or walks out of your life.

Good luck!

WORDDDDDDD ! ! !

The bold part above has been uploaded to my hard drive. Thanks for the priceless update.
I believe that point 2 would have worked in the generations of our parents. Women nowadays dont care if their partners cheat on them. Just be careful.
Funny, one can not prevent one from cheating except that one person. But you can help avoid it. Treat your woman good in front of all others. In the room, give it to her like no man has or will ever do. same goes for the women. Work him out!

Constantly say the three popular words " I love you". Most Nigerian men dont. Maybe they are shy or they feel it is not just african. If you see any thing you have doubts about, talk about it immediately. Do not delay. Delays plus suspence can actually kill relationships. I know it sounds fishy for a woman to have a secret phone with only 2 names and who happen to be men. But then, she could have a reason. Ask her!. I would ask my hubby if I saw a secret fone with women's names on there.

Thinking of divorce based on that? you never know how many secret phones the other woman could have. deal with what you have now

There is no perfect man or woman out there. If you are looking for one, be prepared to wait forever. The most important thing in a relationship or marriage is joy, peace and happiness. Money, education, perfection cant buy them.

@poster,

Have the same qualities you want in a man. You'll attract one.
