drnoel: When did Nigerians start doing such. It must be an islamist taken from the camp of Boko haramNigerians commit suicide if you listen to the news regularly or read crime reports. How Boko Haram got into your analysis is surprising going by the way they'll like casualties rather than a scapegoat as media houses allude to BH operations. Anyway, the point is though alien to our values, Nigerians commit suicide - the ones you've heard of or otherwise; it's the way it's carried out that differs. dlama_luka, the pic waa apparently just to give some image to the story. Whilst I don't condone poor performance, the way that tweet was composed is akin to the way media houses influence people's thoughts - the dead prolly never even heard about the budget, who knows People have a funny way of linking things up. Lastly, this is not Tunisia, the best Nigerians will do for now is to yarn, sympathize and move on. . .shuffering and shmiling |
Newbies or desperados fall for this. It cannot happen to a professional. However if u av no other job then resume then if after a week there's nothing then go to Hr and ask for it. Its no big deal. If ur working and confident ask before resumption so as to familiarize urself with benefits and conditions.
I kinda align with this. While an offer letter is the norm, the carrot here is that if/when you get a better job, you really do not need to give them letters since they've not given you T&Cs for a start. The risks however in such a job is that your job description may not be unlimited since there's no structure. Dis kain job na 'make man sha do something make e no siddon house'. |
pappilo: Nigerians are hypocrites. I can bet my life that 98% of the 253 people who liked OP's post are having or had premarital sex. There's no defined criteria for liking or disliking a post. This is a classic case of OBJ vs GEJ - is the kettle really black as the pot stated? There's this funny way people want to use "judge not" or "hypocrite" tag to prevent public opinion from encouraging right and discouraging wrong. There's something called #values @ethics #norms etc - that e'one doesn't follow it doesn't make it wrong either - 2 wrongs make no right! |
It's like you've answered your question yourself, you probably just want advises that will spur you more rather than deter you. Based on your information, the job is not certain - it's still an uncertainty because the boss has only been 'mandated' and who.knows what other agendas lie in stock for your 'elimination' on return The farming seems more certain and the returns are financially more rewarding than the job. However what you need to consider are:1. Passion: Are you really passionate about agric? It's one thing to like the outcomes of research and income but during rough times, will you fizzle out easily The true test of entrepreneurship is your willpower to persevere in bad times.2. Finance: Will the accounting job or any other job be a source of finance going forward or can you go with agric independently? Do you want an additional source of income in the name of a job? This leads to the next: 3. Ability to multitask: Do you like this If yes, then you can combine your independent job and coy job together. Alternatively, diversification can be considered for 'off-seasons': even agbes (farmers) who practise substantive farming (in villages) consider this. They already know what to face when the season is 'off' and divest into other farm produce; it's more like a farming budget for year.4. Know-how: You're an accountant venturing into agriculture judging from your post. Just like I mentioned passion, I'm a strong believer in continuous learning not limited to one's field. Will you learn more whilst on the job or would you rather learn more about this new field? Knowledge is interwoven and accountants do know business analysis etc - I believe whichever step you take, you can employ knowledge and apply it in both places. Your job could help your venture further in terms of networking and improving on business processes. More people can get to know about this venture if you manage your clientele well. Finally, if I were in your shoes, I'll manage both ends (multitask). I believe it's the best here irrespective of schools of thoughts who always want to make 'Be Your Own Boss' look like the ultimate - you can always manage both ends as an employee cum employer to be an experienced entrepreneur ![]() PS: All advices were given based on presumptions and extent of information released by OP |
I listened to Maku making this statement and was smh. . . why do they pay attention to APC Let your work speak for itself. This government has been playing propaganda games in the media and now, APC. It was the same government that called the strike 'political' - during OBJ and UMYA's tenure, did they blame ANPP, AD or another party You're running the government - if bad news about your tenure will make good news for the opposition, then simply turn things round. Blaming APC is simply lame and a cheeky way of avoiding resonsibilities; moreover, APC is not in all states neither do they own all public schools. I'm sick and tired of this our mentality of looking for others to blame rather than doing what we ought to!!! Phew |
That you're in the hospitality industry does not necessarily mean you should go there - are waitresses the only professionals in the hospitality business? The business side? Customer relations? I've assumed you work at VI and NOUN is also there, I think it's okay for you however, I'd advise you stick to your original passion of mass communication; it's got more range of opportunities than the confined course of hotel management (no derogatory of professions intended). |

emahnwel: Any idea on the direction from Obalende or from Falomo to Chams City, Ikeja. At Obalende bus stop, board a bus going to Ikeja, tell the conductor you are going to Onigbongbo (because Ikeja buses either take 7Up/Oworoshoki Expressway or go through Anthony-Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, the latter being your route). Make sure the bus will drop you at Onigbongbo before entering. Onigbongbo b/stop is just opposite NAC/Chams building. Cross the road and you're there! I feel it's more straightforward than Oshodi/PWD stress. |
Na wa oooo. . .u sef don develop all dem blogger's strategy to 'find out more here' ![]() Lol @ this comment: "I hope u drafted an immediate proposal or @ least rendered advisory services to the lady selling the ewa agoyin?" Where she wan take money buy your services? She go as usual 'send someone'. Apparently, she's got no complementary goods to augment her sales unlike some of her contemporaries who 'don ka scope' via multitasking. Here, she's got a cheap irresistible advert - the aroma. The rest she needs is a welcoming venue and her followers (customers) will simply provide her the cheapest advert - CUSTOMER REFERRALS!!! She can even package the stuff for meeetings, events etc - all dis na packaging! Hmmm business potentials. . .if only, if only she knew, knowledge will meet skills ![]() |
Some masjids (mosques) do take the effort to enlighten worshippers (especially on Jum'ah day) on the prohibition of begging in Islam. However, the absence of a proper welfare structure and the compassionate nature of our people makes alms-giving to beggars override the prohibition. The Zakat system is designed to ensure the redistribution of wealth amongst different strata of the society - there are two things to note in our personal attitudes as Muslim(ah)s: 1. Care for neighbors: the multiple effect of communal relations reduces the need. 2. Be a Mr/Mrs Charity: unlike popular notions, charity isn't just about expending, it's helping others via what you have. Whilst 'fishery' ain't bad, we tend to pay more emphasis to giving fishes to others instead of sharing knowledge of how to catch fishes. |

The employer(s) read this and look at it technically: List Of Companies (I/We) That Use (Employs you/your services) And Dump (Sack/Resign/Retire) Their Staff In Nigeria (Operating environment). Whilst some are involved in unwholesome practices (knocks to the supposed regulators, law enforcement agencies, non-reporting citizens and snail-moving, adjourning-granting judicial system), I am afraid some people would just list out names for vendetta sake. That does no coy's image well. When we tell the story, we are ALWAYS the victims and leave out certain parts - well, that's why there's an industrial court, the police, labor laws, regulators. . . Did I mention those again Well, it's the whole system However, if you are on the right part, you'll fight to finish q |

Se daada ni mo ba yin? Often times, people wonder why Yorubas like greetings. 'Eku this, eku that', even some have made a joke out of this. Some asked, Is Greeting Strangers Part Of Yoruba Culture? Even some Yoruba children wonder why there are so many greetings. So, I would be writing out notes from P.O. Ogunbowale's book, 'Asa Ibile Yoruba' published in 1966. This is chapter 8 that deals with greetings. Ìkíní means greetings in Yoruba. I would translate excerpts from the introduction and continue the greetings (whenever I have the time) in subsequent posts in Yoruba language. Enjoy! It is quite unfortunate that a visitor would visit Yoruba land and see the way we (do not) greet ourselves. This is not saying Yorubas are jobless or what-have-you; this goes to show that we love ourselves or people that are around us.PS: The book has no copyright infringement -ishes so all what I post here are not in violation of the author's permissions! |
tbaba1234: JazakAllahu khairWa iyyakum adezjamz: May Allah open wide our politicians eyes to c d truth.A|min Just remember, the ruled are just as responsible as the rulers hence do not behave like those who would see bad/evil and condone it instead of condemning it; they would say "nobody holy pass", "na who them catch be thief", "he who hath no sin should cast the first stone" etc - all these aren't enjoining good or forbidding what is evil. "If one who is a sinner would not admonish people, who will admonish the sinners after the Prophet (PBUH)?" That a (wo)man is involved in sins does not mean s/he should abandon the call to righteousness or good deeds - Allah is the Oft-Forgiving if s/he repents (at-Tawbah) and such person would earn the reward for: On the authority of Abu Mas’ood ‘Uqbah bin ‘Amr al-Ansaaree al-Badaree, may Allaah be pleased with him, said: The Messenger of Allaah, sallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam, said: “Whoever directs someone to a good, then he will have the reward equal to the doer of the action.”Even if you air your opinion on public issues (some would say na Keyboard activism), maintain the truth however a Muslim has a duty to verify information being passed across to avoid backbiting, rumor-mongering, gossiping and allied matters (all discouraged in Islam). Today, especially in Nigeria, people are partisan to their ethnic tribes even when (aside the Prophet's last sermon that condemned tribalism), there are other hadiths that condemn those who favor a tribe/people over others. Anas ibn Malik said, The Prophet was asked, O Messenger of Allah, (what will happen) when we stop enjoining good and forbidding evil? He said, When what happened to the Israelites happens among you: when fornication becomes widespread among your leaders, knowledge is in the hands of the lowest of you, and power passes into the hands of the least of you. (Ibn Majah.)Ihdina-Sirat Al-Mustaqeem! |
E. Fighting Corruption in Judiciary 13. Ibn Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from his father that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Judges are of three (types), two of whom will end up in Hell and one will be admitted to Paradise (as follows): - One who judges according to his desires; he will be in Hell. - One who judges with no knowledge; he will end up in hell. - And one who sticks to the truth in his judgments; he will be in Paradise." (Authenticated by Al-Albani) 14. `Ubaydullah ibn Abi Bakr said: I heard Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) saying: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) talked about the major sins, or he was asked about the major sins. Upon this he mentioned: "Associating anyone with Allah, killing of a person, being undutiful to parents." He (the Prophet further) said: "Should I not inform you about the gravest of the major sins?" And then he said: "It is false utterance" or he said "false testimony". (Al-Bukhari and Muslim) 15. `A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: The people of Quraish worried about the lady from Bani Makhzum who had committed theft. They asked, "Who will intercede for her with Allah's Messenger?" Some said, "No one dares to do so except Usamah ibn Zaid the beloved one to Allah's Messenger." When Usamah spoke about that to him, Allah's Messenger said, "Do you try to intercede for somebody in a case connected with Allah's Prescribed Punishments?" Then he got up and delivered a sermon saying, "What destroyed the nations preceding you, was that if a noble amongst them stole, they would forgive him, and if a poor person amongst them stole, they would inflict Allah's legal punishment on him. By Allah, if Fatima, the daughter of Muhammad stole, I would cut off her hand." (Al-Bukhari) Culled from: 15 Anti-Corruption Hadiths by Muhammad Fathi |
D. Serious Warning Against Bribery 12. `Abdullah bin `Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: "The curse of Allah is upon the one who offers a bribe and the one who takes it." (Ahamd, Ibn Majah and authenticated by Al-Albani) |
C. No Excuse for Abusing Public Position 7. Abu Humaid ibn Sa`d As-Sa`idi (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet employed a man from the tribe of Al-Azd named Ibn Al-Lutabiyyahh to collect the Zakah. When he returned (to the Prophet with the collections), he said: "This is for you while this (other wealth) is a gift presented to me. (So, it is mine)." So, the Messenger of Allah stood on the pulpit, praised Allah, extolled Him and then he said, "Why does an official whom I send (in a mission) say: 'This is for you and this has been presented to me as gift'? Why did he not stay in the house of his father and mother to see whether gifts will be given to him or not? By (Allah) in Whose Hand is the life of Muhammad, if any one of you takes anything (wrongfully,) he will bring it on the Day of Resurrection, carrying it on his nick…" Then he raised his hands till we could see the whiteness of his armpits and repeated twice, "O Allah! Have I conveyed (Your Commandments)?" (Muslim) 8. `Adi ibn `Umairah (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah said, "Whosoever among you is appointed by me to a position and he conceals from us (even) a needle or more, he is acting unfaithfully and will bring it on the Day of Resurrection". Upon hearing this, a black man from Al-Ansar stood up and said: "O Messenger of Allah, take back from me your assignment." The Prophet asked, "What happened to you?" The man replied: "I have heard you saying such and such." The Prophet said, "I say that (again) now: Whosoever from you is appointed by me to a position, he should bring everything (of its revenues), big or small. (Then,) what he is given therefrom, he may take. What he is disallowed to take, he should avoid." (Muslim) 9. Abu Humaid As-sa`idi (May Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Gifts offered to public servants are ill-gotten gains (ghulul)." (Authenticated by Al-Albani) 10. Buraidah ibn Al-Husaib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When we appoint someone to a (public) post and provide him with an allowance, anything he takes beyond that is an ill-gotten gain.| (Abu Dawud and authenticated by Al-Albani) 11. Khaulah bint `Amir (May Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah said, "Some men abuse Allah's Property (that is, public money and funds). They will go to Hell on the Day of Resurrection". (Al- Bukhari) |
B. Duty of Fighting Corruption is Collective 4. Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whosoever amongst you sees an evil, let him change it with his hands; and if he is not able, then with his tongue; and if he is not able, then let him hate it in his heart, and that is the weakest of faith." (Authenticated by Al-Albani) 5. An-Nu`man ibn Basheer narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "The example of the person abiding by Allah's order and restrictions in comparison to those who violate them is like the example of those persons who drew lots for their seats in a boat. Some of them got seats in the upper part, and the others in the lower. When the latter needed water, they had to go up to bring water (and that troubled the others), so they said, 'Let us make a hole in our share of the ship (and get water) saving those who are above us from troubling them. So, if the people in the upper part left the others do what they had suggested, all the people of the ship would be destroyed, but if they prevented them, both parties would be safe." (Al-Bukhari) 6. Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Help your brother whether he is the doer of wrong or wrong is done to him." The Companions asked, "O Messenger of Allah! We can help a man to whom wrong is done, but how could we help him when he is the doer of wrong?" The Prophet replied, "Hold him back from doing wrong." (Al-Bukhari) |
Just came across this. Ironically, I was reading about this some weeks ago but the way IOL 'article-lized' it makes it a 'goodreads'. Additionally, the message is apt for Nigeria(ns): A. Public Service is a Great Responsibility 1. Narrated Abdullah ibn `Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: Every one of you is a guardian, and responsible for what is in his custody. The ruler is a guardian of his subjects and responsible for them; a husband is a guardian of his family and is responsible for it; a lady is a guardian of her husband's house and is responsible for it, and a servant is a guardian of his master's property and is responsible for it." I heard that from Allah's Messenger and I think that the Prophet also said, "A man is a guardian of his father's property and is responsible for it." (The Prophet continued,) "So all of you are guardians and responsible for what is under your care." (Al- Bukhari) 2. Ma`qil ibn Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported from the Prophet that Paradise is forbidden for any person in authority who dies in such a state that he is dishonest in his dealings with those under his rule. (Authenticated by Al-Albani) 3. Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: I said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): O Messenger of Allah, will you not appoint me to a public office? He stroked my shoulder with his hand and said: "Abu Dharr, you are weak and authority is a trust. And on the Day of Judgment it is a cause of humiliation and regret except for one who fulfills its obligations and (properly) discharges the duties." (Muslim) |

I have always maintained that some threads don't need to go to FP immediately, let it chill in the bag before it's let open. Two pages and there's really no substance but unsubstantiated tantrums which actually have no positive correlation to the topic. |
Naptu2, perhaps you'll do well to "archive" this motor car!!! Who knows, in the future it can serve as a reference in your posts ![]() |
