Nairaland GeneralRe: Let's Have The Option To Flag Posts by Nyceguy92(op): 7:27pm On Jan 18, 2016
charix:
The idea makes sense but is only practical if the forum starts IP banning. Too many immature trolls manage hundreds of accounts and would intentionally flag down a helpful post with all their accounts just to spite a member.
You have a point there, but the possibility of that happening is slim and the benefits of flagging are greater.
Much is also required of everybody to behave themselves like mature and respectable adults here.
In fact, there are people on this forum whose posts are so annoyingly childish and not worth the time.
Nairaland GeneralLet's Have The Option To Flag Posts by Nyceguy92(op): 12:53am On Jan 18, 2016
When people open or join online fora, they do so because they are looking for information, education, entertainment, etc.
Sometimes these values are lacking in many of the posts seen on Nairaland.
Many posts are irrelevant, immature and ridiculous.

As is the practice in many places, let's have the option to flag/blacklist a post so that it is removed from the site.
How it works is that a reader will vote, I.e. flag a post if he/she believes w/out prejudice that the post deserves to be removed.
That means that each post must have a "Flag this Post" option next to it.

If a predetermined number of readers flag same post, it will delete automatically.
Whenever a post attracts a flag, a red flag should be highlighted against such post until it is finally deleted.
One person may not flag more than twice in one week or the flag is not accepted.

Flagging will introduce sanity and seriousness in what we post and how we respond to posts.
Honestly, there have been times I felt like deleting my account, but that will be throwing away the baby with the bath water.
I have read interesting, well written opinions and experiences here. I want to stick with such people.

Readers may add more to what I have suggested.

PropertiesHow Many Bags Of Cement & Rods For Concrete Deck, Please. by Nyceguy92(op): 5:45am On Jan 14, 2016
Dear readers,

I am involved in a building that is awaiting concrete decking and would like to know how much rods and cement I will need.

The building measures 20150 x 15150.
I guess this measurement is in mm, which may roughly translate into about 66.5 by 50 feet.
I hope I am correct.

There is a void over the sitting room of about 21.7 by 21.5 feet.

Any other extra info will be appreciated.

Thanks for your time and expertise.

[quote author=adren post=41866050]People have the erroneous impression that being born implies wilful self imprisonment.
We expect them to do everything in a straight jacket manner and not broaden their horizon.

Music - not necessarily gospel music - has universal appeal.
You either listen because of the lyrics or the beat or both.
I have seen some so-called born again frown at traditional music and dance.

My point is that listening to jazz, highlife, R&B, reggae, etc does not make one less born again.
Yet when these music get the slightest alterations, they are played in churches to the utmost pleasure of all.
Born again people are humans; that we can't take away from them.

The lady is a mere fantasy and no established relationship exists between her and the driver.
The sick lady is the only one who is handicapped because of her illness.
She should be the one to get the ride. This I will explain to my friend who once saved my life.

Why would it depend on the type of car she buys? If she needs a car, let her go for a very clean and modern car. The type she would enjoy for years before any issue /major work.
I guess by clean and modern you the latest BMWs, Mercedes, Lexus, etc?

The point here is modesty.
All the lady needs is reliable modest car that will take her to wherever she wants to go.
FamilyRe: Please Help Me! How Much Should An Introduction Marriage Cost? by Nyceguy92: 3:26am On Jan 07, 2016
[quote author=ossaisly post=41729438]I wonder if there is anything like introduction marriage.
I presume you mean making your intention known to the girl's family.

In my culture, and it appears to be same in most places, you only need to take few elders and some drinks (traditional & brewed) to the girl's family and declare your intention to marry their daughter.

The drinks and logistics should not cost more than N30,000.

Traditional marriage is the time you fullfil the necessary requirements/pay the bride price. You are deemed legally married thereafter, with or without church wedding.
It will be interesting to know what are the features of the planned introductory marriage. I think your woman is extravagant. No need to impress anybody with expensive marriage ceremony.

No need to bore you with what you already know about their poor customer service. One useless employee cut the line on me. He would not provide his name, contrary to universal practice.

How does one keep up with the quantum of text messages and respond to them so one doesn't get charged otherwise.

I simply ported to another service provider.
I think the days of MTN are numbered.

Nairaland GeneralWe Need The Accident And Emergency Bill. by Nyceguy92(op): 4:22am On Dec 31, 2015
Our people say that a child that throws a stone inside a busy market does not know whether the stone will hit his mother or father.

Recently, a thread was posted here on the ugly experience of a hospital Emergency Room doctor.
The junior doctor lost his wounded patients because treatment was withheld and because a senior doctor said so until the patients paid money.

I wrote a response about a doctor who was on duty when his former medical school lecturer was brought in unconscious from a vehicle accident.
Same day, a lorry driver was brought in by the Federal Road Safety staff in severe pain from an accident.
He did not know the whereabouts of his wallet and could make any deposit for treatment to commence.
Incidentally, driver happens to come from the same kindred as the doctor.

In the above scenarios, what should the junior doctor do?
Should he defy his senior and proceed with admission/treatment or stand surety?
I have known doctors to contribute money to buy drugs for patients in dire need, even borrowed from those who were recovering.
But for how long will the practice continue?

Let's take a look at the unconscious accident victim, even the conscious but seriously injured.
When a person goes unconscious, especially in the setting of an accident and in unfamiliar location, he/she loses the ability to make decisions.
They can't tell us where their money is at home, who to contact, or which piece of land to sell to raise money for treatment.
It is the conscious, as in the hospital staff, that makes reasonable decisions for them.

One of the greatest service that health care facilities can render to mankind is to treat the seriously wounded first before payment.
It was obvious that lecturer could afford to pay. Same as the driver but did not have it at the time.
Should they be denied care because they could not pay on demand?

The magnitude of this problem will be better appreciated if we put ourselves in their shoes.
We all travel, so do our parents, children, etc.
You have a stable job with good income, or nice family and friends who are ready to help.
How would you feel if you lost somebody, or your family feel if they lost you on account of a few Naira hospital deposit?

It is high time our National Assemblies looked into the case of the denial of treatment to the accident victim and seriously injured by health centres.
All the attendant bottlenecks, including police the role of the police need to be evaluated.
One should be worried that, by a stroke of ill-luck, one finds oneself in some strange environment, wounded, unconscious and unknown, and money will be a factor between life and death.

In the end, it boils down to funding the hospitals well and curtailing mismanagement and embezzlement of allocated funds.
Let's join hands to cause a bill to be passed in the National Assemblies to address this matter.
Should we use the social media, text messages, or boycott use of our phones nationwide on a certain day?

Suggestions are welcome from readers.

If you still the same about your husband, maybe you should tell him and stop wasting his time.
HealthRe: My Bitter Experience As A Doctor Today by Nyceguy92: 6:27am On Dec 27, 2015
[quote author=cosmatika post=41367852]Our people say that when the corpse of another is being conveyed to the grave, it would appear to be a mere bundle of firewood.

The accident victims could have been or were the children of well placed individuals who could afford to pay anything.
The senior doctor that gave instructions not to admit complicated the problem.
She could have come to see the wounded first. They could have been her relatives.

Here is a true life event:

A doctor was on duty at the emergency room on December 25 sometime ago,
A man was rushed in as an accident victim while driving home for the Christmas,
Doctor swung into action and when he preceded to examine, who he saw was the professor who taught him Biochemistry as a medical student.

In this GSM era, best thing would have been to start treatment, then contact relatives later.
I am certain they had phones and IDs on them.
Most emergency departments have basic drugs and consumables to "hold" patients in the initial hours pending further action.

I read/hear about millions and trillions of stolen money. Just a fraction of it will stock many hospitals.
Also the culture of donating to charity in hospitals has not caught on with us.

Readers, is there a way to bring this to the attention of the National Assembly?

You do not have to flaunt it so that men who do not have cars will not feel intimidated.
In other societies, having a car is necessary to get around; even students have them.
