Travel › Re: Dana Air Responds To Nairalander's Claim by obailala(m): 10:01am On Jun 13, 2013
dabraska: an online report suggesting that a Dana Air aircraft had an air return shortly after take-off from MMA2

Firstly, we wish to state that at no time was a faulty Dana Air aircraft airborne.

The flight crew on flt.9J-357 on the said date, upon noticing a snag on the aircraft, cancelled the flight in line with global best practices and called for a replacement aircraft
If I understand the story here, the original report stated that the plane took off and then turned around because they noticed a fault. Now Dana is saying that the plane did not actually leave the ground before the fault was spotted and flight cancelled.

If this is the case then that's fine, but the most important thing is that there was a fault on a plane and passengers had already boarded and the doors closed before the 'snag' was spotted. God help us! undecided

And to think that Nigeria wants to achieve vision 20-2020 with this kind of killer policy in place for decades...

And we say we have leaders in this country and this draconian policy has existed for decades...

And when a section of the country said they were tired of this mess several decades ago, the rest of the country forced them to stay back...

Kaki P: Good move but the Nigerian police don't know how to maintain such properties.
1. The Nigerian police are useless bunch of cowards, even if you give them Caterpillar they will wreck it under few months. For this I think the Nigerian police needs specially made cars/suvs like HUMMER JEEP. If they can wreck very strong vehicles like Toyota Hilux, I wonder what would become of these Kia cars within the next few months. Kia is not that strong as we all know.

....
Point of correction, it is not just Nigerian police. Policemen all over the world have a penchant for wrecking cars undecided undecided

The only problem is that when these cars are wrecked in Nigeria, they will not be replaced

I weep for Nigeria!
I weep not because over 90% of the money meant for the disaster victims magically grew limbs
I weep not because these funds have crawled into the bank accounts of a few known individuals
I weep because no matter the publicity this case gets, as long as it is in Nigeria, the culpable individuals will NEVER be punished.

slimghost: And your point is? huh huh huh huh Don't you ever quote me again if you don't have anything sensible to say.
My point is simple, Amaechi won the election!

Jang may even convene a meeting today and have 30 governors in attendance but the reason behind that is obvious to even a primary school pupil. However, since you find my statement too complex to comprehend, I will try and explain again. Some governors who voted for Amaechi (in secret) actually attended the meeting convened by Jang; their reason being 'the fear of oga ontop (GEJ)'

Except you guys are simply PDP members in GEJ's camp, I sometimes wonder why you always come up with this weak argument when the underlying reason for the election result is clear. The election was a secret ballot and it's clear that some of those who are OPENLY supporting Jang (simply due to the fear of oga at the top - GEJ) actually voted for Amaechi in the SECRET ballot.

I'm a bit lost in this whole NGF chairmanship brouhaha. Please can someone who is knowledgeable in these things be kind enough to explain what the position of the 'chairman of NGF' is really all about? undecided

Is it a new political office in Nigeria or can the person who occupies this position be considered as a de-facto VP of the nation. I'm just a bit confused how the person who emerges chairman of NGF will eventually add value to the life of a typical Nigerian on the street.

Can somebody tell me if this administration is actually clueless?
Aro Okigbo: The OPPOSITION will still complain. APC my foot!!
The complaints has nothing to do with the opposition my friend. The common tomato grinder in the market has heard this kind of news (promise) all her life and hopes that one day, she wouldn't have to buy petrol from the blackmarket to power her machines. The question still remains, "when will this day come?"
All we want is a conversion of all these megawatts being promised to reasonably steady power supply. Nigerians are tired of promises and we will only appreciate when we click the switches in our homes and the lights come up.

A lot of Lagosians have hardly stepped foot or lived in any other state of the federation in their entire lives. It has always been Lagos from birth - nursery - primary - secondary - university - NYSC - work etc. These individuals have absolutely no idea of what happens or what is obtainable in any other location except of course for what they hear in stories. This simply explains why it sounds like a wild tale when anyone suggests the remote possibility of anyone matching/surpassing the record of their god (Fashola) who simply IMO should just be regarded as the best governor of Lagos (in recent times).

Unfortunately, online discussion platforms like NLand are typically populated with individuals with links to Lagos (for obvious reasons). Therefore in arguments of this nature, the Fashola bootlickers always enjoy the power of numbers. A little piece of advice for the Lagos puppets, 'take a trip out'

“The simple answer to the floating school is that it is an illegal structure and it shouldn’t be there.” The commissioner said that its development will affect the government’s redevelopment plan for the area, saying “This wouldn’t deter us to abandon our plan for the area.”
If they say the floating school shouldn't be there, instead of demolition, can't this floating school simply be relocated?

Travel › Re: Scammers / Fraud At MMIA Arrivals by obailala(m): 2:49pm On May 03, 2013
pappilo: I have just come through MMIA and there are scammers openly operating in the arrivals terminal of the airport without fear or worry.

As I walked out, a guy approached me and offered to change some money for me. We agreed on a price and then he asked that we go to a secluded area. I was already wary of him as I am suspicious of every Nigerian and this request only made my suspicions stronger.

I went with him and he gave me the equivalent of my foreign currency to count. I still had my foreign money with me. I counted the equivalent he gave me and it was N1000 short. I told him this and he took the money back from me and started to count. I didnt count with him cause I knew I was going to count it all over again. He finished counting and gave me back the bundle and said it was truly one note short and he gave me N1000 to add to the bundle that was now back with me. The first thing I noticed was that the bundle felt much lighter than earlier, probably about N20,000 lighter. Anyway as I began to count the bundle again, an accomplice of his made some noises as if to say they were being raided and the barstard grabbed his money from me and walked away. I walked away to and sat in the arrivals terminal waiting to be picked up and right before my eyes, this same barstard successfully scammed another recently arrived passenger. I also saw another syndicate scam a woman passenger. This woman was hell bent on not taking her eyes of the counting but they eventually succeeded by distracting her with a phone call.

How is this allowed to go on unchecked right in the terminal of Nigeria's premier international airport. I find it hard to believe that the authorities dont know this is going on. Why are they not fighting it, why?
Am I the only one who feels this isn't a big deal and infact a false alarm? undecided
Yes we know there may be criminals hanging around our airports but when I saw the words 'SCAMMERS' and 'FRAUD,' I thought I was going to read something interesting.

Why would anyone in his/her right senses not count the money given to them?
Ok, let's assume N1000 out of a huge sum was short, couldn't that have been a honest error that could be committed by anyone? Do you honestly think that a REAL scammer would want to take ONLY N1000 from the huge amount?

If they had given you fake currency or maybe INSISTED on you handing over your foreign currency first, then maybe I would have been inclined to believe that they had something sinister in mind. However, with your story, there isn't a single evidence YET to prove that this guy you met is a fraudster.

Simple fact is that this woman is just a puppet in the hands of GEJ and members of the cabal. In a sane country, with the number of controversies hovering around her head, she would have been relieved of her position a long time ago. However, most of the deals done by her are done for her oga at the top (GEJ) and that's why she can never be sacked.

CFCfan: This is why section 308 of the 1999 constitution (as amended) needs to be repealed. It is absurd that criminal investigations on individuals have to be set aside due to the political office such a fellow holds.

Nonetheless, I hope this latest action by d EFCC is not a witch-hunt from President Jonathan, as we saw during OBJ's tenure.
Demdem: Efcc should first revisit the retardeen's wife money laundering case. Rubbish.
toolovely: See it in which angle? Gej set up several committees on the fuel subsidy scam and all the various committees indicted the minister ☀f petroleum but efcc has turned a blind eyes towards that.
Since 2007, why is it now that he's having problem with gej that they now remembered that he's corrupt?
I can only deduce that efcc is a tool for witch hunting your political enemy not for the good ☀f Nigeria
mbulela: because he is not a threat to the clowns at the top. They will allow him to wallow in his thieving tendencies and ineptitude.
Due you think those attacking Amaechi are doing it out of love for Rivers state?
mbulela: EFCC is a blackmail tool of the presidency.
iheanyiebeneze: SOMEE QUESTIONS NEED TO BE ANSWERED. 1. WHY DID EFCC REMEMBER THIS CASE AGAINST AMAECHI NOW? 2.WHY DID THE JET AMAECHI USES GROUNDED NOW.?WHEN AMAECHI WAS IN GOOD TERMS WITH JONATHAN, WHERE ALL THESE THINGS COMING.MY CONCLUSION IS AMAECHI IS IN TROUBLE HAVING FELL-OUT WITH THE PRESIDENT.THIS IS NOT GOOD.

As long as the witch-hunted Amaechi is actually a witch, then this is a very welcome development. It may not be the most desirable approach but you know what they say when the desirable isn't available.
