Who told you my reason for giving my life to Christ is to be wealthy? Some of us don't need "wealth" or the promise of it to serve our Lord and savior. Giving in order to receive is investment banking not worship.

Like I have said on numerous times on NL, I don't have any problem with folks giving their money to help support their local place of assembly/worship but what I don't find in our Bible is the INSTRUCTION to give a certain percentage to support the "ministry". A Christian should be able to make the call as to what to do with his/her resources be it giving straight to the poor/widow/orphan/stranger around you or support a Church local or not without being called DISOBEDIENT, THIEF, etc.
Jesus Christ said to LOVE/help one another, not support DREAMS of fellow men whether you can afford to or not. I have seen folks who won't help their parents/siblings or others because "I have to pay my tithe first", where is the LOVE in that?

Christ came in the order of Melchizedek , tithe collection was Revealed in the order of mechizedek. There is no single scripture where God or any prophet spoke against tithing. Jesus endorsed it the only time he made reference to it. If no single scripture condemend tithing ,we have no right to condemn it. Whoever is not convinced in his heart to tithe is free, but should not condemned those who believe in tithing .

We must not add to the Scriptures in an effort to justify an unholy practice of mandatory tithes, Nigerian and some American Churches are all about money these days, go figure.

Some Nigerians and their "haste" to "make" it will go any length and follow any "Pastor, MO, Prophet, Evangelist, GO, GS, GOC, etc" who promise them that prosperity is within reach if only "you believe, have faith, pay tithe, sow a seed, offer first fruit offerings" but at the end of the day while the common folks are still holding on to those beliefs, their "leader" is smiling to the bank. I don't know when these bunch are going to get it but our Lord Jesus Christ was only recorded to have mentioned tithe (of produce no less) ONCE yet they tell you they follow Jesus Christ.

Those who believe they need to pay tithe to their local church ought to continue doing so as long as they know it is not mandatory or a requirement for salvation as our God can't be bought. The early missionaries brought something with them be it subsidized or free education, lived among the people under the same conditions, etc but not these new age jet set prosperity preachers.

If you wish to convert your tithe to crops, and you feel the storehouse will use it better that way, please do go ahead. Afterall, we're under grace, aren't we?

With the way they operate in Nigeria, they not only should be taxed but also audited once a year. Church has become a thriving business in Nigeria and operate that way so no more hiding behind the charity charter, I seriously doubt that most of them spend up to 5% on Charity despite taking 10% from their members not including offerings, special seed sowing, building fund, etc.

Nigerians and their readiness to justify anything they like or want. The Bible explains everything to anyone who is willing to study and pray for guidance from the Holy Spirit.

There are lots of Nigeria's so called "mega pastors" that are misleading MANY and until folks come to the full realization that this wasn't the example set by our Lord Jesus Christ, they'll continue on the path.

You are entitled to your opinion dude! I never said Pastor Adeboye was my "mate", problem with Nigeria and Nigerians is that they refuse to see wrongs even if it hits them in the face when it concerns people they adore or look up to.

I don't know that I have seen any of Nigeria's pentecostal preachers take it to the government or those in the Government with the notable exception of Pastor Tunde Bakare ( I am sure they have stuff to say about him), Cardinal Olubumi Okogie was arrested plenty of time by the khaki boys in those days for daring to speak the truth to them.

He, however, used the occasion to urge every Nigerian to pray against killer diseases, particularly amongst children.

For the international community, Pastor Adeboye expressed some concern, saying that serious prayers should be offered for the international scene this year against massive storms and extreme temperatures.

He said: “Pray against major disasters, especially by fire. Pray that God will speak peace to a convulsing earth. Pray against civil wars and civil unrest.”

There is, however, some cheery news on the international scene, as Adeboye foresees major discoveries in the automotive and aviation industry.


As a Christian, I DEPEND on God for everything, I don't understand the part highlighted though: Which "prominent Nigerians" are we supposed to be praying for? The ones that have robbed the country to a standstill? Maybe you guys have a better take on this than I do.

When I fast or how I do it is between me and my savior and not for your consumption, I don't do things for the sake of it madam. If you open your eyes a little and compare what you see or hear with what the Scriptures have to say about such, you might come away a better Christian or person. Man is a spirit and his problems are spiritual and are to be handled spiritually. Greed is the problem of most pple, they can buy and pay for every other thing but in church they give nothing. Some give mllions to babalawo, pay dues in their cults monthly, sponsor terrorists etc. This gospel most go to the ends of the earth and we are not going to make that happen with water and paper but money. The devil wants to church to remain small without a voice, without money. The way to have is to give, the devil is fighting giving in chuches cos he knows the prosperity of the christian is mostly dependent on his giving. Most churches that do not teach their members to give cannot do big things for God. Most times even the people in the street they are do not know a church is there. In the bible some christians sold their properties(land) so give to the church. People gave the very last meal they have? If people stop going to church, what will BBC gain? More pple staying at home to watch them on sunday morning.

It would be nice to know which Scripture you are quoting from, from your post, it seems the only thing one can give in your church is money, what about Charity towards one another that Christ preached? Most of these "modern day" churches are actually turning most people away from church with their hunger for the filthy lucre. Way too many "principles" being preached that can't be found in the Bible or twisted if found at all, "be wise as serpents and gentle as doves" is Jesus Christ's charge to his followers.

What happened to "test every spirit"? You will follow your pastor even if he is leading you to the opposite side? Good Christians are BEREAN Christians and don't hang on to every word they hear from the pulpit without VALIDATION from the Scriptures.
