Thanks but I didn't see any validate button on the form
Hi, i dont think the FAMILY FORM IMM5645 has that instruction to validate like the other forms which you would have filled. You can just date the form and save on your system with a file name you can remember and upload on family section on your GC account. But for those other forms that has the validation button, it is compulsory to validate those. You will still have to sign stating your full name in capital letters at the point of submission and payment for your application.

I wish you success.

I came accross this on one of the old thread and thought might be useful for the new applicants in the house.

Credit to SOPWriter:

I have decided to take my time to correct the rife practices of my fellow countrymen, regarding the common mistakes they make in their statement of purpose: I have reviewed much numbers of SOP and I could discern what is ubiquitous, therefore the necessity I have laid on myself for this selfless address. Aside the tips I have benevolently stated on this forum, I see the need to be of adequate assistance to as much as possible numbers of persons who will appreciate this kindness, by adhering to these corrections.
So, I will list out these ‘common mistakes’, then point out the bloopers:

UNNCESSARY PIECE OF INFORMATION: Although this is not only practiced among Nigerians (I have sighted this fault in other nationality citizens as well.); we tend to state things that are completely irrelevant to our application. A Nairalander once sent me his SOP, before he did; he was bravado of his piece, saying he only needed me to see how good he was. To cut the long story short, he sent me his SOP, and I was flabbergasted to see “I own an apple laptop valued $1,000, two iphones that worth $500 each, making $2,000. U of R is a good school, as they will help me look for Job when I graduate with first class. Canada is a good place where you earn a good standard of living, unlike Nigeria, where people live in poverty”. I stared for ten seconds, especially after considering how he had boasted of his SOP. “My people”, learn to stay on point, stop stating things that have nothing to do with your studies!

IT IS NOT ABOUT THE LENGTH BUT THE VALUE OF INFORMATION:
This is mostly applicable to Nairalanders (the guy I used as an example above made use of 3 pages), you will hear something like “I wrote a superb SOP of 4 pages, three thousand words”, and when you read through their SOP; all you will see are piece of information that will shoot them in the leg: it is the value of details that matters, and not the lengthiness of a written/typed piece.

WRONG USAGE OF GRAMMERS: it could be funny sometimes while reading some SOP; many applicants turn to overnight Grammarians; then starts filling up their SOP with words that is completely inapplicable in a writing context; wrong usage of words, bad grammatical structure, counterfactual spellings, etc. They completely forget they could be communicating with a native speaker who might be familiar with these words and get irritated: Use the words you are familiar with, grammars are not mandatory, effective communication is.

I took 30 minutes of my precious time to write this short piece, and I hope it assist someone to attain his/her goal.

It will end in praise.

Good evening,

Please for those who has paid tuition fees from a Nigerian bank in favour of schools in Canada, i need clarification on how you went about it.

I just initiated payment of tuition fees with my bank and also filled the Form A along with transfer instruction form which was filled in favour of the school but payment to be wired to CIBC which is the bank my school advised.

My bank keeps telling me they are awaiting clearance from CBN on dollar payment so as we speak, my account is yet to be debited.

Please is there any other way this can be done as i do not have a dollar account because i have not noticed anyone complain on challenges on payment of tuition fees.

Hello people, please how true is it that visa processing for prospective Nigerian students going to study in Canada ( University of Manitoba to be precise) is done in Canadian embassy located in Nairobi .
Most study permit applications from Nigerians are being processed from the Canadian Embassy, Nairobi Kenya. It has nothing to do with the school.

A general tip for writing your statement of purpose. Written by @lekkiboe

Guidelines on How to write an SOP (statement of purpose)

Most important thing: Avoid Plagiarism

While writing SOP, the following things to be mentioned which will boost chances of convincing a VISA OFFICER and possibly getting a STUDY VISA APPROVAL:

1. Introduce yourself in first paragraph. write, what kind of person you are, your interests and personality etc. This may also include one line background of work & study you did earlier. This should be related to the course your are going to pursue.

2. Explain what do you know about the area of study you are applying for.
Like HR, Marketing, Finance, IT, Multimedia, Engineering etc. Market trends, application of knowledge in work, organisations/roles where you can work after studying in this XYZ field and if possible, 1-2 real life example where you experienced this personally (in your current job or someone in family who works in this field etc.)This shows you are well read and know what you are getting yourself into.

3. Now explain Why Canada.
Mention all points Canada is famous for like low crime rate, diversity (which helps in learning), livability and quality of life related statistics etc. Facts & figures help you here. Google a little

4. Why this particular college/Univ. Explain ranking of the same or relevance of course being offered or if someone known is studying there etc. Mention positive points which you can gather from ex-student's testimonials and college website itself. Again, write in your own language and by your own understanding.

5. Why this Program:
Mention why you chose this program. Explain how courses (subjects) of this course will help you in your career, how some of these subjects you have learnt earlier (basic knowledge) and need better and upgraded knowledge about these (especially if applying for PG/masters), explain application of subjects in real job scenario etc.

6. Summarize with reason of coming back to home country: Now summarize all details by mentioning your career goals and what will you do post completing this course.Mention how this course will help you in making your career in your home country. Be passionate about job market of your home country and coming back to your country. Because "You'll not leave Canada" is one of the biggest reason for Student Visa refusal.

7.Travel history
If u av not travelled bfor, state the reason why u av decided to travel at this point of ur life, and how important the program is to ur career & personal development back home

8.Family Ties-Hime ties
U can talk about how children are apparent to family inheritance, and how u are obliged to take care of ur family (parent and siblings). U can attach their birth certificates

Secondly, talk bout Landed Properties (Documents, deed of assignment, Deed of conveyance, survey plans and other important doc.) to of prove ur Hometies

9. Proof of Funds
Mention that you have paid ur tuition fee or made a deposit of ur tuition fee and so so as amount has bin set aside by your sponsor for ur Tution fee (if not yet paid), so so amount for ur One year Living Expenses (might be more than one year) and so so amount for ur flight itinerary

10. Final Note
U can end it like this or in ur own language
Dear Sir/Madam, I hope that you will find all my documents in proper order and I kindly request you to process my visa application as soon as possible. I am very much thankful to you for giving me your valuable time to process my student visa application.

Your Sincerely,
write ur name and Surname

Happy Writing

Hi Bisola,

The documents to give DHL are:

* Original International Passport
* 2 Copies of the VFS consent form
* Copy of your Biometric acknowldgement slip.
* A copy of the Passport Request Letter from IRCC
* Evidence of payment of the Transmission fee ( This should be paid if you want to use VFS Abuja and your biometrics was not done in Abuja)
* An envelope which you would hand over to DHL . ( write clearly your full residential address, email and phone number and the address of VFS Abuja at the otherside)
* Pay for a two way courier ( so DHL will be giving you two waybill with tracking numbers, one for shipping to Abuja and the other for return courier to your residence in Lagos),
* Being an important document, you can pay for insurance with the courier fee.

I would recommend you send to VFS Abuja, they are faster than Lagos.

Congrats!!!

Thank you! This was helpful.

For number 3, what do you mean by applying alone?
What i am implying by you applying alone is that you do not intend taking anyone with you to Canada i.e your wife, child, parents etc so you are applying as a sole applicant and you are leaving behind your family members which you intend to use as home ties that would compel you to comeback and unite with your family after your studies.

Please I am just about doing a valuation on one of my Dad’s properties. The estate valuator wanted to state in the report that the valuation was being done to aid in my Canadian Visa Application. I told him not to do that and to just do a normal valuation without any mention of Canada.

Going by what you said above, should I tell him to go ahead with he initially proposed?
I agree with you, he does not need to state that the valuation is done to aid "Canadian Visa Application"

What i meant in my notes was that the valuer can address on the front page of the document to Deputy High Commission of Canada.

It is just a suggestion and does not guanrantee visa approval but just a step in making your application look more professional.

I hope i have addressed your question.

Good evening NLs!
Trust we had a good day! For those waiting for their good news, best believe it'd come knocking.

I have a quick question.
How do I show times to home country?

My dad has 2 properties but he only has papers for 1. How do I prove that it's a tie?
Also, does the property have to be in my name?

For my application the only thing that bothers me is the ties to home country.
There are several ways you can proof ties to your home country depending on your story;

(1) If you currently have a job, you can get a study leave letter from your current employment and Letter of Reference/Introduction from your HR unit. With this document, you can demostrate to the VO, you are coming back to your job after your studies.

(2) Your Pension statement of account can also be a home tie.

(3) The property does not need to be in your name since he is your biological father - This can be a strong home tie if you are applying alone so you can demonstrate to the VO that you have responsibilites back home based on the key position you hold in the family, you can just do an evaluation of the property by a qualified Estate surveyor and valuer, the valuer can go a step further in addressing the document to The Deputy High Commission of Canada.

(4) You can get sample old pictures like 4 or 5 that you took with your family as further proof.

(5) If your parents has a business, attach all their incorporation documents - with this you can demostrate to the VO that you intend to come back home to oversee the family business.

So it all depends on your story. I hope this helps.

Yes, you can book weeks before starting our study permit application; this is called upfront medicals. (and I personally advise this. but doing an upfront medical doesn't in anyway increase your chances of getting approval over someone that didn't do his/her upfront medical, it just purely speeds up your application processing time).

I am in Alberta province, Edmonton: accommodation can range from 370 cad to 650 cad for a room (definitely all utilities), also mild advice; try not to get a basement suite because some houses rarely heat their basement and trust me the cold is insane, so just be careful about basement apartments.
I really appreciate your timely advise especially the one on basement. Much appreciated.

Thanks all , I got this rejection around November due to no transcript, and till date , my school is yet to send my transcript talk more of signing it . Some of our schools here are just vibe killers. I had to pay more to get it due to the ASUU strike but still nothing came out till now
I am so sorry about this. I thought you just got the rejection from the school. It is just unfortunate how our system works here.

I know you will get another admission even if not this one, in another very good school. Try to build some relationship with those principal officers in your university, do all you can to be their friends since you would be needing them to pursue your Canadian dream.

I wish you all the best.

I got rejected due to my institution being unable to send across my Transcript .
I dont think you should give up on this. can you immediately send an appeal letter to the admission personel ( address the letter to the admission committee) who has been liasing with you on the admisison processes. You can state something compelling in your letter that the delay was due to slow administrative procedures as a result of lot of personnel working remotely from home due to the wave of the COVID 19 pandemic which affected the normal processing of your transcript etc something straight to point and compelling, one page is okay.

You can then seek for maybe few days extension e.g 7 or 14days ( but make sure you give a definate timeline when they should expect to recieve the document from your school)

While on the other head, try to put more pressure on the school, due to the way things work here in Nigeria, try to go there physically if you dont have a reliable person to run around for you.

Try and see first if you can get the admission back before they allocate the slot to someone else since thier reason is attributted to your official transcript they have not recieved from your school.

I wish you success.

Oh please what’s the difference, I’ve an agent handling my process that’s why I don’t know most of this things
Background check (BGC) is a procedure to verify the criminal and/or security background of visa applicants to ensure they’re admissible to Canada. This involves criminality check, security screening and information sharing and most times involves the support of Canadian Security Intelligence service. At this stage IRCC is reviewing to be sure the applicant wont pose a security threat to Canada. This is the stage where the IRCC does country by country information sharing with other countries like the USA, UK etc to see if they have any information on the applicant that poses security threat or risk. Sometimes they can check social media platforms Linkedln, facebook etc for further checks.

While Eligibility review is confirming if the applicant is a genuiene student and truly intends to study in Canada. This is a critical part of the application At this stage, a visa officer of the IRCC reviews the applicant statement of purpose or letter of explantion, letter of acceptance from the designated learning institution, career progression, home ties, proof of funds etc. Sometimes based on their discretion, they can contact the current employer for confirmation of his/her employment status. This is where they make thier decision whether to grant an approval.

DETAILED TIMELINE **Warning Super long post ahead**

After arriving in Canada as a PR in Sept 2019, I remember promising my kid sister at the airport on my departure not to worry that she would join me in a year. It was my 2020 mission to secure a study permit for her. Thankfully it happened. embarassed kiss cry

I applied for admissions to 3 schools in Ontario (UOttawa, Carleton, and Uwindsor), my mistake at this point was not confirming the tuition fees first before applying. Applied on Oct 7th, 2019 on OUAC to all 3 schools and paid 323.25 CAD. About 2 weeks later we got an admission letter from UOttawa, she didn't get the french Immersion program which means she would have to pay full tuition as an international student. Tuition was over 18k per term whaaaaaaaat!!!! angry Who's gonna pay that? Defintely not me undecided Windsor sent admission and Tuition per term was equally high. Never heard from Carleton and didn't follow up either.

Mission two was to find a more affordable institution. Research started and landed on Memorial University. I connected with a friend schooling there and he assured me it was a good institution. I later found that the school was subsidized by their provincial govt hence the cheap tuition. About 12k per year which was fine by me. The admission requirements were IELTS, WAEC transcript, and identification docs. We sent an email stating she was a Nigerian student and the medium of instruction was English requesting to waive the English assessment requirement. We were offered two options, write the test now and get admission or push the test to your first year in school and do an English prerequisite course. We chose the former. So she registered for IELTS academic Nov 23rd, results came out 11 days later and uploaded to the MUN admissions portal. Went to WAEC office where my bro was nicely scammed 20k by touts outside the building shocked, this was cos it was almost Christmas of 2019 and all the offices were about to be closed. We waited till 2020 and paid again to get the confirmation of results sent to MUN in January. Gained admission for B-comm a 5 yr program Feb 10th, 2020.

I wanted a University and not a college for two reasons. 1. She was a teenager, never had a post-secondary education at the time (she eventually got admitted to unilorin tho) 2. I wanted a professional course, she sole aim wasn't just to Japa. Also ensured to find a program with co-op so that she can get work experience while schooling.

She was still in that dead school (unilorin) even tho I'm an alumnae of that institution, the fact that they joined ASUU makes it dead to me. tongue So we couldn't apply for her Visa as she needed to be home for biometrics.

Shortly after she returned home for inter-semester break we applied. The number one of frustration was getting my bank to do their freaaaaking job SMH angry. I wanted to pay tuition from my Nigerian bank and was to send the funds using Form A. Emailed my account officer severally, no response. I finally got in touch with a friend from the bank who told me in all honesty that form A may never work. So I had to pay the tuition from Canada. Also sent 2M to applicants bank as proof of living expenses.

We were to use two sponsors. A parent and sister.

POF documents included sponsor bank statement, fully paid proof of Tuition, applicant proof of living expenses, Sponsor biz account statement, Biz registration docs, Sponsor Money market fund statement, co-sponsor salary bank statement, co-sponsor PFA, and letter of sponsorship from both. All documents were merged for FINANCIAL DOC

Statement of purpose took almost 3 weeks to complete (2 pages). I got about 5 people to review with me via google docs **yeah, I'm extra like that** grin Note we never mentioned she was enrolled in a school in Naija. Please ensure you take your SOP very seriously. TBH If everything else about your application is perfect, if your SOP is crappy you may get a refusal. I wonder how people even consider submitting a visa application without SOP sef.

CLIENT INFO included - SOP, Birth cert, Int'l PP, WAEC result, applicant bank statement, IELTS results (not needed but since we had it, why not), NIN slip. All docs compressed and merged.

My number one fear was ties to Canada. In the family info, we had mentioned myself as a PR living in Canada, I was concerned about providing bank and biz docs for Nigeria whilst living in Canada. Also paid Tuition from there so my bank statement never reflected an outflow of Tuition payment. But none of that mattered I guess or maybe we got lucky. cool I didn't add my PR card as proof of relationship for this reason. I used my Passport instead. No further ADR was requested so I guess that was okay.

The application was submitted May 23rd and medicals done May 26th. Bio requested (next day after application was submitted) but due to lockdown could not go for Bio till Aug 25th, Biometrics was completed on profile same date.

Another wait started. I just had a strong conviction that she was gonna get approved so I encouraged online school against Sept. So we registered for the fall 2020 courses. Got AIP Aug 4th.

I requested GCMS even tho we had received AIP, I just needed assurance I guesshuh GCMS was delivered Oct 9th (exactly a month later) No much details on the notes except "Elig Passed. Pending Biometics".

No further updates on the application whole of Sept and oct but online school was going just fine. In fact we registered for Jan 2021 winter courses without approval yet. Lo and Behold... Nov 2nd, got donotreply email... BVL . Nov 3rd got PPR. Finaallly!!! cheesy We sent passport the next day to VFS Lagos thru DHL. Included return label (which they never used, they claimed they couldn't find it)

Everything in Nigeria is somehow made to frustrate you for some reasons. Imagine how VFS Stressed us before we could get back the passport. It took over 6 weeks. Even tho we called and did several follow ups. To connect to that their useless phone line you may have to dial about 30 times. A lot of instances I had to wake up at midnight EST to connect to an agent. They didn't find the return label so we had to pay for UPS delivery which took another 3 days plus for them to confirm payment and an additional one week to send the passport after receiving payment. OMG!!! These guys have just one job and they never did it right. angry

We hoped she could come to Canada to do her exams due to power and internet situation in Nigeria but no thanks to VFS that never happened.

Eventually, she did the exams in Nigeria and managed all thru.

We had booked several flights and had to cancel hoping passport would come but it never did and we gave up traveling this yr. The passport was finally delivered Dec 16th kiss. I saw how people had waited for several weeks for LOI so we took the bull by the horn and headed for Canada High commission Lagos, day after to request for LOI. Meanwhile, I had sent several emails 2 weeks even before passport came to no avail. LOI was sent same day we went to HC lagos, Dec 18th.

We booked one-way trip via Ethiopian airlines finally for Dec 21st *didn't have to cancel this time* Tho her school is in NL, she landed in Toronto. It was her first time traveling by air and also by herself. I told her to always ask questions if she ever got confused. Travel wasn't' so bad. The immigration checks was a breeze.

Docs asked the airport in Lagos were Passport, proof of tuition, admission letter. Immigration in Canada asked for Enrolment letter, Bank statement (POF), Passport and ArriveCAN code. Officer asked "your school is in NL, why are you here" she responded, "my sister lives here and has made provision for my Quarantine plans". He asked when she resumes for winter term and she responded. That was it.

I picked her up at the airport and finallyyyy, yeeeeeeyyyy I have a family in Canada Halleluyaaaaah!!! embarassed kiss cheesy

Dreams really come true, if you want something. Go for it, fight for it. Don't give up for whatever reasons. It never occurred to me that this whole thing took over a year till now. Some people advised me to just give up and have her focus on her school in Nigeria. Others asked me to not pressure myself to bring a sibling less than one yr after my arrival and focus on settling but I just wanted a better opportunity for my sis. One I never had. The thought that I have to pay so much in tuition yearly whilst getting still getting my shiitss together in this country, freaks me out sometimes. But I know in 5-10 yrs time, (God's willing) I will look back and be glad I made that decision.

End of story cheesy

Hello house, happy new year in advance.
I tried to do upfront medical exams, so I went online to book, they gave me 19th of January
2021 which is too far. Because I have submitted my application since November. Is there a way I can manoeuver the date to next week?
Good evening,

If you have not yet made any payment, you can try the other panel of pshysician if they have an earlier date for you to book for your medicals.

But if that is the earliest date you are able to secure, you would need to be patient. I dont think you will be able to manoeuver anything than to just wait for the 19th January should in case none of the two panel of physician has an earlier date than the 19th.

Hopefully, IRCC progresses your application further and sends you medical request before that date.

I wish you success and it will end in praise.

Hello Everyone.

I had my Biometrics done on Tuesday, December 22 and received NSE request this morning, December 24. (I was literally shaking when I saw the donotreply email grin, plus I saw request letter on the portal and all my mind was medical request grin grin grin)

To continue with my question, I've Noticed some persons receive the NSE request later than some others. This leads to the questions I have..

1) Is there any chance IRCC looks at the applications before sending out NSE requests? The quickest NSE request I've seen here is 1 week if I'm not wrong.

2) If the answer to question 1 is YES, can any deductions be made from this quick response?

I look forward to your responses.

IT WILL END IN PRAISE
Yes, they always review applications before sending NSE request and even their request letter always have that starting remark " This is in reference to your application for a study permit. In reviewing your application, it was noted that you may be eligible for Nigeria Student Express. To get faster processing.................."

In response to your second question, unfortunately, no one can make any dedcutions and since we are not privy to their internal workings so it is just best to do your best in your applications, respond to their request as best as you can and leave the rest to God to handle.

It will end in praises

Please can pension account be used as proof of funds?
No, it cant be used as proof of funds but it can be used as stong home ties and assets which would be one good reason to compel you to come back home. it will show you still have a job back home. If you can convince the VO that you are coming back to your job after your studies, the pension would be a good point.

I have applied for GCMS note since 2 months now. They gave extra 90days before it can be sent.
I am sorry about this after waiting all this while, lets wait for GCMS notes to drop so we know specifics concerns. Try to take a break this holiday. Optimistic, you will get it in your next application.
