Actually this is the problem with Nigeria. Culturally you are rewarded for being useless. It is just our culture. Whenever I say it I get accused for being Americanized. You are rewarded just because you are a man even if you are as useless as mud. A boss is rewarded simply because he buys a bag of rice for all his employees for Christmas even though he never even bothers to show up at work. A governor is worse than unproductive yet people sing his praises because he fixed one road. Culturally you cannot even call someone out for not being productive. It shows all over Nigeria. From the typical Nigerian that will sing the praises of the governor that shuts down businesses and schools so his daughter can get married to the governor who does not see why people are outraged because of his cavalier attitude to a public raping. These are the kinds of people will reward so they will continue to think that they are doing something right. Meanwhile to the rest of the world it is a country filled with aimless and lawless people.

Oustrip, hmmm, I had reservations scolding kids immediately they enter my house, I love kids and it wouldn't have been nice to just attck them after d remote incident, plus there parents were der I expected dem to handle der kids demselves. I finally reacted when it was obvious dat d parents had no say in what their kids did and keeping quiet will further scatter my well kept house.
My actions got d desired results, I don't have all night to be fcollowing spoilt children, once I did dat they were quiet for d night and dat was dat. You know I just remembered when a friend came to my house and her daughter was being very inappropriate like right in front of me and her mother. Lets just say it had to do with genitals. her mother did nothing. I yelled at that little thing. I did not know if I should I vomit or slap her mother. My boys cannot pick up the remote control when and adult is right there not to talk of in someone else's home. I can go on and on about this woman's kids and their behavior but you don't know who reads on here   My mom even told me to restrict the boys access to this womans kids because it can influence them. I tend to agree because I remember one day they came and they just went running and screaming through the house like the house was on fire. When I looked my son had joined them in their race to no where. I have even decided now that I want to move to a place with a high Asian demographic because their children seem to be better behaved. I cannot spend my time dodging peoples children rather than focus on raising mine

I have smacked a friends son before, like jesoul said, instead of the parents to do something about their wayward child, all you hear is "stop it, be quiet, sit down" but when I smacked him, the dude got the message immediately

I wish I could sometimes but what holds me back is the knowledge that I do not love these kids like I love mine and I am even hesitant to spank mine as I do not totally believe in spanking. If I am spanking someone else's kids I am simply spanking the brat in them. I might not be able to connect with the sweet part of that child. What will the child learn from it. If they are in my home the child will get time out something like church or a gathering I will bundle the child to the mother and let her know that her child is being a brat. Other people can spank though I have nothing against it. I will just enjoy it through them

Sorry debrief but you did not handle that well. I am hesitant to spank other peoples kids even though I wish I could sometimes but I will definitely put them in their place including time out if they did that crap in my home. I would say "In this home we do not do that" or "That is unacceptable behavior". It would even embarass the parents. I think for me I try to be straight forward. It will not be tolerated in my home. As a matter of fact as soon as the child picked up that remote control i would let them know straight up that it was unacceptable to the hearing of the useless mother. Honestly I have seen better behaved animals than some children. You can train a dog not to run in the house but a human being will bring their child over to someone else's home and the child will be swinging from the chandelier. Yeye

There is this little kid in my church. I pray before I go to church that I don't teach that girl a lesson. she is not even two but she walks up to bigger kids and the next thing you know is a hot slap. You will see three year olds crying and the next thing is that this little terrorist has done it again. I am very convinced that her mother is her fathers punching bag. She is so aggresive. I saw her snatch a bottle from a little baby in a stroller and started drinking it. The baby was just crying. She would walk up to someone and just snatch a bag of chips from their hands. She does it with so much aggressiveness (is this even a word) that it just shocks me. Church folks raise your children right abeg. I have boys so I knwo they will just let her have it but I will certainly send that child crying to her mother if she comes near me with that nonsense. Too aggressive for a little girl

i don't even think it is all about joystick size. it is more about body chemistry. a guy the same size as the OP may come along and fk the living day light out of the wife. that is why this is dangerous. the OP might do once like most husbands do, role over and play dead. this other guy (because she/he know this may not happen again) may do 5 - 10 times in one night. it is that bad. i think this is really the issue.

@debosky, I believe they offered them forms to complete for British Citizenship i.e. passport and that would have shut all the doors for the Nigerian government to get involved in this case. Very wise of them to refuse.

And who said that that should be enough to remove the children. What I said is what I said. Don't read more into it. I question their judgement in general for continuing to have children in that situation
