btw, if a baby is under 1, wont it still be on liquids? huh[/quote]LOL. Nope. My boys were eating chicken wings at around 10 months. Just watch them closely though. They can also eat semi solids like pudding and even eat pounded yam. I don't know what it is with pounded yam and ogbono soup but just about every african baby I know love it

I actually know of someone this happened to. The woman was hired to kill him or at least she lured him in there so they could kill him. I think at the end of the day you would still bury him with dignity because he is still the father of your children. You do all of that and then move on. If he had not died would you have worked out of the marriage or worked on it. Unfortunately there was no chance to work on it but you can still forgive and start afresh

Culture › Re: Why Do Some African Men Show Off What They Don't Have Once They Visit Home? by Outstrip(f): 7:40pm On Jan 07, 2010
Some do it to genuinely help and the others do it just to prove something to themselves. It is mostly not about helping from what I have seen. I mean when you spoil people enough that adults call you from Nigeria to remind you that you still have not done christmas for them then you know that there is a serious issue there. It is an african thing to help family. It is just too ingrained in our culture and you start talking culture a lot of people simply refuse to apply common sense with it

BlackBella:
But see, this is not an isolated incident. He is not the first African man that I have seen do this. My issue, is how do we reverse things to make the African relatives understand that being in America doesn't always translate to being rich. And why these men need to stop pretending that they are living like kings in America when the exact opposite is true. It works both ways.

When I visit Africa, many of my African sisters dream of going to Harlem or Atlanta, or Texas and living in the big house and driving a fancy car. But isn't like that at all, and it is hard convincing them that the cost of living is absurdly expensive. Many of these young men and women are expecting relatives to immediately start sending back funds and treats once they arrive in America, but don't understand that there is a rude awakening when you set foot on American soil. It's not so easy.
Focus on your fiance. You can never convince anybody back home that the streets of the US are not paved with gold.

Blackbella for the most part disregard what OMOIBO said. He is wrong. People like this never really are prepared for the unexpected. Your example was very clear. He is basically living paycheck to paycheck and yet wants to go home and dole out money. It is very clear what you are trying to say. Omo Ibo just wants to play devil's advocate.

spikedcylinder:
All these names you mentioned, the only one I find absolutely 'English' is Queen. The rest of them seem to be an anagram of their actual names or their names morphed into something else. A lot of well known designers go by their names or something afro centric. What's English about "Amanjide" or 'Maufechi'? Its neither here nor there abeg.
It may seem that the actual insecure person here is your friend who believes that unless she has an "english' name, she/he will not sell.
This is just crying foul over nothing. undecided
So right and even queen is okay because in the west it is not uncommon for a beautiful african woman to be referred to as African Queen so that makes sense. I agree Tiffany Amber is out there but the rest are just fine.

BlueDiva:
Madam expatriate, In Nigeria it's improper.

Read my words carefully, I said at 30 marriage should be on the cards.
I said it ain't solely in her hands but it is a guaranteed solution to this problem.

Ok, Mr contemporary, give your input or face left.

Thanks, I likely realists.
A lot of us come online and form all Westernized, we can't be more catholic than the pope.
BlueDiva please you are generalizing. What has expatriate got to do with anything. I have cousins in Nigeria that have lived on their own since their late twenties and nobody saw it as a big deal. I don't know why you people always want to blame the west for a everything. Many of us lived the same way in Nigeria so please enough of "here in Nigeria" or "those of us on the ground" as if none of us ever lived there. There is nothing that you are going to throw out there that most of us do not know unless it is something that just became in vogue. It is more of the circle of friends people associate with. Those who have lived by themselves will more likely be surrounded by other people with that level of thinking.

LOL. Very true. It depends on the family too. Most of my closest relatives are doing better than most people I know here in the US.
Family › Re: Is Umar Farouk Abdul-mutallab’s Father (parents) Culpable In This Matter? by Outstrip(f): 2:35am On Jan 07, 2010
Absolutely in my opinion they are. You cannot claim to be parenting a child when he is in a different country in the most important stages of his life. I am sorry but his parents should be ashamed of themselves. I have never understood why parents would send their children far away to school when there are other options.

Family › Re: How Come Most Married Women 4get Their Duties After Marriage, Why by Outstrip(f): 2:15am On Jan 07, 2010
The fact that you called it a duty is the reason why you will probably still be jacking off tonight. That is what Nigerian men want. Maybe you should try fixing your own dinner every once in a while. A man that is useful around the house is like pre-intimacy for a woman 24/7. You will get more attention if you do that than wait for her to care for you like she cares for the baby while you sit of the couch scratching your nuts and waiting for your stout.
Family › Re: Why Don't Nigerian Parents Listen To Their Children? by Outstrip(f): 3:37pm On Jan 06, 2010
Remember back in the day when a woman would viciously attack her child and everybody just sits around and watches. What do people say though? "It's her mother, she will not kill her child". Typical Nigerian mentality. You people should keep lying to yourselves about parents not intentionally harming their children. Many African parents believe that the harm they are doing is somehow going to turn good. Keep deluding yourself that the culture is this and that. The culture is majorly about control and that is the way it has been in Africa forever. The I own you mentality. It is a slave mentality and it needs to stop. Parents to children. Husband to wife. Boss to employee. Rich man to poor man. It is quite clear that in Nigeria it always comes down to people in authority feeling more comfortable using a master/slave approach

Right now I am considering writing a letter to their pastor to warn them. How can a group of adults, with the consent of the mother, destroy the reputation of an innocent girl? It's unforgivable and I won't sit and watch it.

Since the mother has given them green card, these people now create rumours at the slightest opportunity. Does it cost so much to have a heart to heart talk with your daughter?
What makes you think the Pastor will be reasonable. Abi is he not Nigerian? Whatever you do just don't make it worse. I have seen even worse behavior from Nigerian church folk

I don't see why you call it shame. They are planning to market to different people and it is a fact that a name like let's say atutuboyoyo will not sell high fashion. If it happens to then fine but if a person takes a large amount of money and lets not forget time and body, soul, and spirit into a project then it only makes sense to use it to draw people in. Let's not be simplistic with this.

She just had a baby. I will suggest you get some vaseline and get reacquainted with your ***** if the itch is too strong. Don't step out on your wife. You have a good marriage and if you screw up now because she is not quite ready for you yet you might never get back what you had. Be patient.
