Politics › Re: Ben Murray-Bruce's Tweets About Quota System (Screenshot) by oyatz(m): 5:15pm On Apr 19, 2017
Most people who commented on this thread did so with more of emotion than logic, many betrayed their frustration with Nigeria, thereby derailing the purpose of the thread.
1) No system of governance or government policy is perfect.
2) In a highly heterogeneous society like Nigeria, there is need to promote and ensure fairness/ equity.
3) The quotal system came about as an attempt to ensure fairness but like any other thing we copied from saner climes, we abused it.
4) quotal system has its merits and demerits.
5) There are two forms of equity; Vertical equity and horizontal equity.
6) Vertical equity is about unequal treatment of people who are not equal ,while horizontal equity is equal treatment of people who are equal.
7) Without deliberate policy of these forms of equity, where its most expedient, it will be difficult to achieve a Nation. Already great divisions in the country will be glaringly obvious and magnified.

What are you people trying to prove?
1)The bottom line is that these people were murdered, either by bullets or other means.
2)That the bodies were found near each other suggest they were killed by the same murderers.
3) A layman (not a medically qualified person, especially as a pathologist) may NOT be able to correctly identity a body which died of a gun shot injury, especially after some hours.
4) The coupists were arrested and they gave confessional statements to police investigative team.

Accepted and I apologize for my wording, but I really get pissed off when people claim they know it all. Intelligence is intrinsic in every being, though can be improved slightly thru education. There’s no amount of studying history that’ll make one more intelligent than one is; you’ll see kids with very high IQ, so it’s natural.

When people talk without basic reasoning, it makes we wonder. Tafawa Balewa WAS NOT on the list of those to be assassinated and an independent reporter, an eye witness, reported that his corpse was fresh and made sure to state and I quote “No marks of bullets on both bodies”.  Now someone is relying on the Special Branch report and other interested party's account as the only correct narrative of the event, just like someone relying on the CIA for correct info when the case is not yet declassified.

Please read the write-up again, this time slowly.
1) The MYM election was like a primary election to select their candidate who was to represent the party in a local government( Lagos legislative council) bye-election .
The vacancy was occasioned by the resignation of Dr Kofi Abayomi as a member of the Lagos legislative council in order to further his education in the UK.
2) At that time, any group of people who could muster public support could sponsor a candidate for an election. Indeed, many town unions like Otu Edo and Igbira peoples Union contested elections into regional and federal parliaments.
Edo tax payers association also sponsored candidates in the Western regional elections.
3) The write up wasn't an Awo vs Zik comparison.
May God continue to bless the souls of these political icons. They played politics in the ways they understood, obviously made mistakes like all mortals but left enduring legacies

People that reason like this often assume that tribal solidarity is all that's needed in politics. This is how naive and unintelligent minds reason.
1)Why did Aminu Kano opposed Ahmadu Bello and the NPC leadership throughout the first republic?
2) Why did S.G Ikoku of Action Group contested against and defeated his own father ,Alvan Ikoku and the Igbo populated NCNC?
3) Why was Arthur Nzeribe selling arms and ammunitions to both the federal and Biafra armies during the civil war?
4) Why did Alex Ekwueme teamed up with Hausa-Fulanis in NPN to defeat Azikiwe in 1979 presidential election?
5) Why did Nwobodo constest the PDP presidential primaries of 1999 to dilute the support for Alex Ekwueme (serving as a spoiler against Ekwueme's candidacy)
6) Why did Senators Chuba Okadigbo and Arthur Nzeribe led the plot that impeached Sen Evan(s) Enwerem as Senate Present in 1999?
7) Why did Sen Dahathu Tafida led the campaign organization of Goodluck Jonathan in 2011 against his fellow northerner, Gen Muhammadu Buhari of CPC?

Fulani Alimi used Yoruba Afonja to conquer his own people, Gowon used Pa Awolowo to cling to power against southern interest, Abiola used his Concord newspaper to fight his own brother Awolowo, same Abiola financed the coup that sacked his brother Ernest Shonekan and brought General Abacha, an Hausa-Fulani to power. He even went to Dodan Barracks to congratulate Abacha for overthrowing his brother. SMH!! It didn't stop there, General Abacha also used Oladipo Diya to batter NADECO, Afenifere, Odua Movement and other Yoruba struggle groups such that all Yoruba leaders went on exile including Bola Tinubu.

Just when we thought Yorubas have learnt enough from history, Tinubu came back from his Hausa-Fulani sanctioned exile but has once again partnered with the same Hausa-Fulani to defeat Southern interest and brought a Hausa-Fulani man to power. When will these people learn for God's sake?
Politics › Re: Ikoli-Awolowo Relationship: Ijaw-Yoruba Political Relationship by oyatz(m):
Stop twisting history to suit your thought.
1) Awolowo was the leader of opposition at the Federal level from 1959- 1962 while Akintola replaced him as PREMIER of Western Region from 1959-1962 when the political crisis in the West reached its peak leading to the declaration of state of emergency.
3) Different people contributed to the creation of the Midwestern region at different times but most importantly THE LAW required the approval of the WESTERN REGIONAL HOUSE of assembly with support of at least 2 other regional assemblies and approval of the Federal Parliament.
4) The political parties and politicians you mentioned rightly agitated for the creation of the Midwestern region, however agitation is not necessarily the law.
The agitatators on their own are like pressure groups, they can't decree the creation of the region, only the authority can do that and the primal authority in this case was the Western regional government through their regional assembly (dominated by the Yorubas). It was the regional that can conduct referendum for the area that want to break away but the result must have the support of at least 2 other regional assemblies.
You are free to hate Awolowo, Akintola and the Yoruba people kwhom you derisively referred to as Yoloba) if that will make you feel better but stop distorting history.

ikechu1278:
OMG you are so stup1d. It is extremely SAD. First of all, ypu never countered igho statement, all you did was cry like a biatch with ZERO logical counter to his statement. Second and foremost, prior to NCNC became a SE led group, NCNC was a southern political party. That's what azikiwe was doing at the west. He won an election over awolowo, emphasis on the word WON (aka ELECTION). Your tribalistic people hated the fact he democratically WON the election in West and thus suggested all yoloba members to cross over to AG this to push Azikiwe election out and give it to awolowo. That's where Nigeria tribalism in politics BEGAN. What i just wrote is from Igho (a mid westerner).. the link is several pages back

First of all there was NO ministry created by Awolowo that clamored for Mid west creation. The mid west groups that clamored for mid west creation were MSM, BDPP, Otu-Edo, etc all of which were formed by Mid WESTERNER, excluding one that was formed by a minority Easterner aka biriye
Secondly, there was no ministry awolowo suggested for mid west. The only ministry awolowo agreed to pertaining to mid west was one suggested by enhauoro. And the only only reason awolowo accepted that suggestion was due to the fact enhauoro suggestion was made to suppress the call for mid west creation. He is agreement to the suggestion had absolutely NOTHING to do with the benefit of mid west hence the reason when he went all over the media speaking of his support, majority of mid westerners were suspicious of his claim.

The Bleep?
Akintola was more supportive of mid west creation than Awolowo, the snake. Wtf is your dumb@ss smoking?

Again first of all, I neither opted any of what you said I did. I highlifted because it stated and quote awolowo did not support---no matter the circumstances----despite the fact he urged belewa to create Midwest in 1962.

While I'm at it, awolowo was the leader of western region in 1962. 1962 was when akintola was expelled. 1963 is when akintola became the leader of western region. I keep saying it you are brain dead.
You keep screaming "I'll only read omoigui history" but by this post, it's obvious you don't even read his post. Sad thing, this part of the history is even your own history, therefore you should have know this sh1t more than me. Tufiakwa!!!

Anyway, educating you on your history:

http://www.waado.org/nigerdelta/ethnichistories/egharevbalectures/Fifth-Omoigui.htm

Anyway, back to what I was saying, it was documented, it was under Awolowo watch [in 1962] that AG boycotted a mid western conference that was meant to fix the politics and ethnic differences in western region.

Yet again butterish the point that awolowo never supported the creation of mid west.

Oh BTW: UFC was formed by the first commissioner aka Dalton Asemota.

Again, I ask again, what in that brain dead head of yours do you think you countered? Every single sh1t you spewed out of your @ss here, I've provided several books, links, etc that opposed it till the point you stated ranting about "invalid source" and "invalid post".

Ethnicity is largely a matter of self identity rather than something defined by external factors such as a decree by the federal government as you are trying to suggest here.
There are peoples from non Igbo ancestries in Ebonyi State who now self identify as Igbos just as many Igalas in Anambra now regard themselves as igbos.
Similarly some Apoi/Arugbo Ijaws in Ondo States now called themselves Yorubas e.g Sowore, the Publisher of Sahara reporters.

pazienza:
They rightly claim Yoruba because there are no external forces at play, trying to give them a distinct identity.

Eze Ogba, Ogbuehi Francis Ellah and his supporters in Ogba Maintained that Ogba is a branch of the Igbo ethnic group, but the breakaway groups were financed and encouraged to grow by the FG, they frustrated Francis Ellah throughout his stay on the throne, and immediately replaced him with an Igbophobic New Eze, who changed his throne to Oba from Eze.

The Niger deltans of today are better off than they were under the old Eastern Region.
Cross check the infrastructural development in Rivers, Akwa-Ibom and Cross River States Vs Anambra, Enugu or IMO State.
These States have surpassed the South east in development and even in Politics. The ONLY area, south east surpass them is in POPULATION.

zendy:
I think you've got this wrong on many levels . I have read a lot about the war, watched first hand interviews of the major participants and my father was a captain in the Biafran army and has told a lot about it. I still have letters my father wrote to my mother from the war front so I can authoritatively tell you I know a thing or two about the times. Ojukwu was a man of peace. Ojukwu actually wanted Nigeria to remain one but he was not about to sacrifice his people to Northern domination in other to keep Nigeria one. The Aburi agreement which Gowon and Ojukwu signed was meant to run Nigeria as a confederation where nobody could dominate another but the greedy northerners and their lust to control the economic and political life of Nigeria led to war. Ojukwu did not fire the first shot either. As for the people of the south-South such as Ken Saro-Wiwa who fought against Biafra, what happened later? All the oil wells in the south-South are now owned by northerners. The south-South people have been bled dry because they wanted Nigeria and Ojukwu has long been vindicated. The people of the South-south jumped from the frying pan of Biafra straight into the hellfire of Nigeria because of people like Saro-Wiwa. As for Awolowo, this man came to Enugu and told a large crowd of Igbos that should the eastern people pull out of Nigeria,Yorubas would follow suit. Just like a typical Yoruba man who cannot be trusted,he chickend out and took a plum job in Gowons cabinet from where he orchestrated the economic strangulation of the easterners. Maybe Ojukwu was stubborn and high handed but I have no doubt he meant well. War situations are not normal. Saro-Wiwa paid the price for not being wise enough to see that the war to keep Nigeria one was actually a war to take over the oil of Niger-Delta people by the northerners. He was more concerned about Igbo domination not realising that he was making the situation worse by adding northerners and their Yoruba cohorts to the list. Today, the Niger-Delta people are in an even bigger prison than they were in the eastern region, even with a south-South president. Saro-Wiwa paid with his life for not knowing who his real enemy was.

What's the Federal allocations of Ogun ,Sokoto,Kano or Borno compared to Rivers?

naijaking1:
Thank you my brother. My father used to tell us how they would go fresh water fishing along the many beautiful creeks in PH, many of them in Ogoniland before the advent of oil. Today, all those creeks are gone, thanks to sterile exploration by big oil companies supported by those who won the civil war. They get their money from Ogoni oil and take the cash back to Abeokuta, Maiduguri, Kano, and Sokoto while the people who live around the area fight among themselves on the basis of minor tribal diferences and selfishness.
Ogoni land is simply their war booty thanks to the support and assistance of the Ken Saro Wiwas of this World.

Lol so every single square inch in igbo land is occupied by a family. Ok what about the erosion lands and the forest. are they also occupied by Families. Or are farmlands too occupied by families too. LOL when you are serious you can discuss.

again mbaise

115360 + 96170 +92462 = 303,992 people according to mbaise people website

http://mbaiseinireland.org/?p=229

now indigenes of lagos are aworis, egbas, egun, ijebu

lagos indigenes = no really sub-ethnic census for yoruba subgroups as they do not count in subgroups but as yorubas

But now i have a rough estimate and it is save to use this estimate

Now this is the population of lagos in 1991 8.5 million. Back then there were little or no igbo population then right!

according to this site

Now i would estimate the populstion of indigenes of lagos to 20% back then although we know it is a lot more than that. even now it is estimated to 40-47%. but then again we are not sure but other yorubas for other state go back to there state of origin.

Now 20% of 8.5 million is about 1.7 million. that is above mbaise population 5 folds

http://www.fhi.org/NR/rdonlyres/edamzquh5f6vwhyytihhmkszht3socidgdcvyuqkiawfuainggz6v6x2p6grmk42eb4rn7z4l46aqn/LagosRapidAssessmentNigeria1enhv.pdf

also this is awori website that says they can be found everywhere LG in the state. not sure how  true that is

http://awori.org/TheAworis.aspx

Now also, this is a report by the humanitarian report that says awori are 30% of lagos, egba are 10%

that alone speaks volume

http://sites.tufts.edu/jha/archives/541

but I had to underestimate it again for u

that again i am not sure of, if igbos are 4 million, then how many aworis do we have in lagos, how many hausa, tapa, egun, egba, ijebu and foreigners

Again i am not sure although ohaneze kept quote 43-60% of the population of lagos to be igbos. I don't know were they got those figures from

but this is what i got from lagos although u know different local government have different population of igbo and hausa and yoruba and varies with there concentration

The three cities where the questionnaires were administered represented different types of urbanism. Ajegunle is a suburb of Lagos near the industrial estate and port of Apapa including the adjacent areas of Olodi and Amukoko. Ajegunle is the headquarters of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government, a local government with population of 1,435,295 (2006 population census) and Ajegunle is the most densely populated of this local government with a population of about 500,000. Three major tribes of Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo can be found at Ajegunle in the proportions of 40 percent, 35 percent and 25 percent respectively.

Agege is located in Agege Local Government area and serves as the headquarters of Agege Local Government. By the 2006 population census, Agege Local Government has a population of 1,033,064 and as the headquarters of the Local Council, Agege has the largest population of about 400,000. The Hausa in Agege migrated from the north of the country and their proportion stands at 40 percent. Other tribes found in Agege include Awori who are the real indigene of the city but they have been outnumbered by the Hausa. The proportion of the Awori is about 30 percent. The Egba migrated from Abeokuta and are 10 percent while Igbo represent 20 percent Mushin was the third city selected. As a local government headquarters, it is the most densely populated area. Thus while the whole Mushin Local Government is having a population of 1,321,517 (2006 population census), Mushin is having about 500,000. The predominant people there are the Hausa of about 49 percent. The Yoruba is about 30 percent. Ibo represent 10 percent while others represent 11 percent.

http://sites.tufts.edu/jha/archives/541

so i can estimate igbo population to be about 20%-30% because we have more notherners in lagos than igbo. whether u chose to believe it or not is not material.

here is another one i found saying Egun people are 15 % of the state and awori 70%
http://www.cefolassaocoed.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=60&Itemid=68&limitstart=4

remember as i said earlier we still have ijebu, egba tapa etc as indigenes of the state also ilaje

so believeing an igbo social cultural group over all this links is silly as they only push for there own agenda

here is another one saying yorubas are 70% of lagos http://www.city-data.com/world-cities/Lagos.html

a link saying other yoruba ethnic group apart from the indigenes are 35%

http://rpg.wikia.com/wiki/Yoruba_(ethnic_group)  thus indigenes yorubas can be said to be 35-40%

i can go on and on

about OYO

Andre that is a big lie

whay is the population of oyo 5,591,589----- 5.5 million people and so u mean to tell me that igbos are 1 million grin grin

Ok this is from OYO website "The people of Oyo State are Yoruba with a common ancestor in Oduduwa"

thus the population of igbos there are insignificant because on like lagos there is no regonition. although I could not find a concrete link to this. Not withstanding I have lived in oyo aswell and i know how the state is like, If the population of igbos are up to 2000 i would be surprised.

Again anyone that says kwara and kogi is not a northern state should be slapped grin also anyone that says cross river is not a south-south state should be slapped

Kwara is a northern state and infact i think the governor is half yoruba half fulani

But majority of kwara is yoruba speaking and identify with yoruba.

here is a link to kwara state official website written by fulanis

The principal groups residing in Kwara State are the Yoruba, Nupe, Bariba and Fulani. The skilled craftsmanship of the people of this central region has been evident for centuries. The, largest and most important pottery workshops in Nigeria can be found in the capital city of Ilorin. Proponents of the craft of traditional textile weaving are also very prominent: the Aso Oke style of hand-loomed cloth-making is world renowned.

http://www.kwarastate.gov.ng/about-kwara-state.html

languages spoken in kwara

http://www.uiowa.edu/intlinet/unijos/nigonnet/nlp/kwara.htm

http://againstbabangida.com/Newsroom-at-AgainstBabangida.com/ibb-forbidden-to-campaign-among-yorubas.html

Now i think this should kill you kwara argument as this House of reps website speak

Kwara State is one of the 36 states of Nigeria. Its capital is Ilorin and its governor is Bukola Saraki. The primary ethnic group of Kwara State is Yoruba, with significant Nupe, Bariba and Fulani minorities

http://www.speakersoffice.gov.ng/constituencies_kwara.htm

this is also  kwara radio official radio station that speaks yoruba predominatly

http://www.radiokwara.com/programmes/programmes_tuesday.htm

same with lagos state official radio station that speaks yoruba (radio lagos) that is if u have lived in lagos

i can go on and on

again all this delta igbo , rivers igbos are not more than this people because majority are migrates when compare to indigenous people.

I have not really figures to name the amount of yorubas in kwara and kogi because as i said hausa/fulani\yorubas don't count individual clans but are counted as hausa/fulani and yoruba alone not as awori, fulani alone

I am sorry i hav no really figure to compare

Lol i don't think the so called igbo speaking people in benue would subscribe to u calling them igbo as u do not understand there language. same can not be said of the yorubas would understand igala, itsekiri, ebari and yet gave them the freedom to call themselves as indvidual  ethnic groups

calling benue, ika, ikwerri etc igbos just to inflate ur numbers would not still help the % of igbos significantly. MOREOVER THIS IS THE SAME THING U ACCUSE THE HAUSA/FULANI ARE DOING. which they are not

Even if i agree they are igbos indigenes in edo, rivers, akwa ibom, baylsea, benue, kogi etc as u people claim, is it going to increase you people clami population significantly.  undecided Don't think so but Again this is just a suggestion. No one knows

lastly, this is my taking of this 2011, this is a very vage guess and very inaccurate

hausa/fulani- 30%

yoruba - 23%

igbo- 20%

kanuri- 5%

ijaw- 3%

edo- 3%

ibibio- 4%

igala- 1%

nupe- 2%

etc not sure but this is just a suggestion

again I igbo population might be large as the population density is not well documented, who know undecided

andre, don't take it personal, All i did is suggest and use all the info i have to make a prediction

Philistines, Amalekites , city of Jericho have nothing to do with PALESTINIANS .Most of these peoples were conquered by the Israelites and absorbed into the Israelite Nation around 4000 years ago.
Palestine was the name the Romans gave to the kingdom of Judea and Samaria around 150 AD, just like the term 'Niger Delta' its not the name of any Nation.
If you insist there was any Nation in history called Palestine, please tell us its Capital and at least 10 Kings/rulers of such nation.

Philistines, Amalekites, City of Jericho etc lay testament to the evil that befell them. Where was Israel then?

Is participating in Nairabet, Baba-Ijebu and money doubling sins or fruits of the spirit?

Eddy, remember that the Bible says 'every THOUGHT of foolishness is a sin'. #not even the act, but the thought. Let's not justify an ungodly act because it's not specifically stated in the Bible as a sin against God.

Uyi, that sinful habit cannot be a fruit of the Spirit, because it's unholy, sensual, lustful and sin against God.

The offsprings will be Efik if their fathers were efik and mothers Igbo but they will be igbos if their fathers were igbos and mothers efik.
Igbo irredentists need to understand and acknowledge that migrations during precolonial times were in both directions and today, there are non-igbos that have Igbo ancestry as well as igbos with Ikwerre, Edo, Igala, Idoma, Efik, Ijaw and Ibibio ancestries.

Calculia:
^^Ok! Who are the ibibios den? Where did dey come from? Are dey Efik and how come they are many in Akwa Ibom  and the Efik in Croos River? The Igbo's  mainly traded by the coast with the fishing community and were not known for fishing and I am sure we inter-married with the Efik at some point. What happened to the offspring of that union or culture, becos it won't be Igbo today. huh

You sound like a generous person who wish to have powers to dash out States to anyone who desire such.
Keep it up sir.

Calculia:
There are other interest we have to consider for the moment (short run). In the long run naturally States like Rivers and Delta will be brought into the fold but for now lets go after other interest in the North central. i.e Benue.  There are Igbo speaking parts that need to be brought into the fold urgently. Cross Rivers also have Igbo speaking parts and am sure the Efik could do with an additional state.

Please answer the questions I raised, what you are saying was never part of the post you were replying.
Its not my business to tell Ikwerre or any group's history. What i was pointing out was in response to an earlier post which attempted to turn logic upside down.

michelz:
Can you provide evidences of Languages, names of people or towns of Ikwerre that are not Igboid before the precolonian era or before the civil war (at least) to prove that Ikwerres had a distinct identity different from Igbo.

Who did Biafra appoint to feed their populace during the war?
Did Biafra appoint the FG to feed Biafrans or did Biafra had to rely on the magnanimity of their opponents to survive?

Stingman:
"In the first half of the following year, 1968, Britain approved the export of 15 million rounds of ammunition, 21,000 mortar bombs, 42,500 Howtizer rounds, 12 Oerlikon guns, 3 Bofors guns, 500 submachine guns, 12 Saladins with guns and spare parts, 30 Saracens and spare parts, 800 bayonets, 4,000 rifles and two other helicopters. At the same time Wilson was constantly reassuring Gowon of British support for a united Nigeria, saying in April 1968 that ‘I think we can fairly claim that we have not wavered in this support throughout the civil war’. MArk Curtis

Despite all these, the strong Biafran army continued...The FMG had to resort to weakly and cowardly starvation. I have no doubt in my mind that Biafra would have won if they had one twentieth of the weapons obtained by the FMG.

Nigerian educational system is fashioned after the British system. Once you are appointed a Professor, you can still use the title many years after leaving your professorial seat.

aribisala0:
Many of you are illiterate and have no understanding what a Professor is. I asked where is he a Prof not whether he won Nobel price or invented the internet.
WHERE IS HE A PROF

Is he on the staff of UNN?
A Professorship is not a chieftaincy title and so if you do not have tenure you are not a professor.. He was a professor but to the best of y knowledge he does not hold tenure anywhere.Nigerians need to get away from this quackery. To that extent the likes of Osinbajo,Akunyuli, Soyinka and so on should not be called Professors the oment their tenure ends and even where they are granted Emeritus status that should be made clear

There is no world power that can support secession openly because they also have secessionist cry in their backyards too that they are grappling with.

In US, the Sourthern States want to pull out of the Union, In RUssia, you have Chenchya, in China you have Tibet and Taiwan and even hong Kong; in Britain, we had Scotland; in canada you have Quebec; in Spain you have the Basque Region and the Catalonia.

Which one of them will support secession without fueling hat they are contending with at home?

The road to secession is simple but tortuous and calls for intellectual argument rather than show of brawn that will never lead to any where.
