Don't be ignorant. Its called a 'Brownout'.

In aviation, a brownout (or brown-out) is an in-flight visibility restriction due to dust or sand in the air.[1] In a brownout, the pilot cannot see nearby objects which provide the outside visual references necessary to control the aircraft near the ground.[2] This can cause spatial disorientation and loss of situational awareness leading to an accident.[3] Pilots have compared landing during brownouts to parallel parking an automobile with one's eyes closed.[4]

The brownout phenomenon causes accidents during helicopter landing and take-off operations in arid desert terrain. Intense, blinding dust clouds stirred up by the helicopter rotor downwash during near-ground flight causes significant flight safety risks from aircraft and ground obstacle collisions, and dynamic rollover due to sloped and uneven terrain.[5] Brownouts have claimed more helicopters in recent military operations than all other threats combined.[6]

There are several factors which affect the probability and severity of brownout:[6]

rotor disk loading
rotor configuration
soil composition
wind
approach speed and angle

Abi PMB's chopper can't land on tarred road too?

The unsafe nature of a tarred road due to the risk of flying debris, the lack of a windsock which tells the pilot the direction of the wind, and lack of security for the personality of a President makes that option untenable.

If am to believe you , this helipad will be the first constructed artefact that requires no maintenance!
A structure don't have to be electronic before it requires maintenance.
From your response , I think you view an helipad as just like plastering cement on an open field.
If that is the case then it shouldn't have cost more than 100k(that is on a high side).
I expect an administration that preaches/promises frugality to lead by example , not taking to an extravagant lifestyle.

The point is that the cost of maintenance of the helipad where it exists, is far lower than the cost of constantly fuelling the Presidential jumbo jet to fly to Katsina, and then fuelling the Presidents entire convoy to Daura from Katsina airport, and then bear the same cost for the return trip.

I repeat, a broom, mop, and replacement bulbs are all that are needed to maintain a helipad.

we are talking about a helicopter here not an airplane. Helicopter doesn't land like Airplane that needs a runway to land or take off. Going by soil, you forgot that Niger Delta is swampy, what if the tires of the helicopter got stuck in the "loamy soil"?

Then that would be disastrous and the world will be awash with news of a President that failed to do a common soil analysis before landing his Presidential aircraft on it. Of course the soil can support the weight, if not do you think the Airforce will attempt to land there? Come on.

Even if the president flies directly to Daura with persons,
his chief of staff, advance team and principals will have to fly to katsina plus the road trip or the helicopter will have to do multiple trips which is risky.

They would most likely drive since Katsina is just 4-5 hours away from Abuja, and regardless of the mode of travel, the expenses would likely be covered by their own allowances so its still the more efficient option.

GEJ probably did not bother with building a helipad at home because the soil is loamy so the propellers of the chopper would raise minimal amounts of dust, compared to the sandy Daura soil which raise a dangerous amount of dust that could hamper the pilots visibility and endanger the life of the President, hence the need for the helipad.

Building a helipad which will allow the President fly to Daura directly from the villa will be a cheaper option than using the Eagle One Presidential jet to first fly to Katsina and then moving the entire convoy by road to Daura, a trip that is repeated for his return as well.

Let's keep in mind that the soil in Otueke is loamy so a helipad is not necessary for safe landing, in contrast to the sandy Daura soil which would raise dust when landing that could dangerously block the pilots visibility. The construction cost of a helipad is about N2 million.

This is a 'clueful' decision which is highly efficient, especially as it significantly reduces the cost of governance.

Quite true. VP Osibanjo should consider tying the marketers to be involved in the oil-swap agreements to banking instruments such that if they fail to deliver the agreed quantity of refined products exchanged for our sweet crude, they will lose their money. This will hopefully minimize the inherent risks typical of such arrangements.

I wonder what his detractors are looking at, VP Osibanjo is looking every bit Presidential and displays a commanding persona in those photos.

There are trained Presidential Bodyguards in the military and they have been in existence since the days of Abacha's strike force. Their roles and influence were significantly limited with the return to civilian rule in order to protect the seat of power.

Now a retired General feels his life is safer with his kind, and spent two weeks away from his office to ensure it was free from surveillance devices allegedly planted by the same agents that want to protect him; what on God's blessed earth is wrong with that?

The injustice and nepotism that has characterised the Nigerian state since independence has continued unabated under northern rule. It's sad that you still don't realize the strength and dominance of the North is attributable to one thing; Unity. Until the south, and the south-south by extension, are able to unite by finding an altruistic factor which bonds them, they will continue to play the second fiddle till thy kingdom come.

You need to snap out of that myth about unqualified northerners presiding over better qualified southerners. It's a story minted in the 70's and is no longer true since northern professionals in their thousands started to graduate from 1st generation universities in the North like ABU, BUK, UDUSOK etc. and the rate keeps increasing. Nepotism under GEJ was in its worst form and spread across several levels. Two days to his handing-over, we were inundated by the news of mass employment and appointments of his cronies without recourse to merit or due process. One of the sacked directors in fact, was occupying an illegal office cobbled together be Diezani to facilitate their numerous scams. What nepotism is worse than that? The fact is if those sacked directors were not stinking of corruption, they would have held their positions.

Let's try to be objective, and reflect on my first paragraph.

You can never hear Obama say the US is broke even though that Nation has been operating a deficit since Clinton left office with over $16 trillion dollars in debt and climbing.
If Obama even showed a little hesitation about the US economy the stock markets will crash and the dollar will turn to useless paper overnight. Rather what you get from Obama is encouragement of economic growth and recovery.

Buhari should borrow a leaf from Alan Greenspan, who served as the head of the US Treasury and who is credited with GreenSpeak, which is a form of speaking without giving out any negative or sensitive information and wrapped up in optimism.

But we know why he is shouting that the treasury is empty because part of his agreement with Obama for US support in the last election was to steer Nigeria back to the dollar and the only way this can be guaranteed is once we take a juicy fat IMF loan that will leave us bonded to western bankers for the next 40yrs.

You just wait and see Buhari send an IMF loan proposal to the National Assembly for ratification and approval.

What is the basis of your allegations? Do you really think PMB will take an IMF loan blindly? Be reasonable.

Another thing I will assure you is that President Buhari will not engage in blatant deception a.k.a 'Greenspeak' - a man's word is his bond. The contradictions between Greenspan's philosophy and his actions led to many key failures over his career such as his refusal to send examiners into banks to check out reports that their books were full of so-called liars’ loans. In the event such loans all but wiped out the U.S. banking system, and proved particularly toxic and resulted in huge losses for the nations strongest banks.

In fact Bill Black, a former US financial regulator in his own words called Greenspan the biggest and most dangerous fool in American financial history.

Yet this is the person you ask President Buhari to emulate? You must be kidding.
