Jenny’s exit shud not be seen as a welcome development, Africans have run every good thing they’ve had to the ground or to mediocrity with either corruption and man know man and other abnormal practices. We have not achieved any global fit in these sectors to say we can develop Africa. The whites are not special bt we need to change our mentality and deal with issues without too much sentiments bt rather best practices.
Nobody operate on man know man pass China....
They have utmost disregard for ethics or they turn blind eye to corruption if it favours them...
But they 've been able to develop strong institution that ushered in unprecedented prosperity making them the largest economy in the world....

Our problem isn't corruption or lack of ethics.....
Africa's main problem is lack of foresight n lack of passion from our leaders to develop the continent....

Adesina's main problem is poor boardroom political game....
He chose to ignore the sensitivity of some key players in Afdb without giving serious consideration to the consequences.....
Key players that didn't support his candidacy in 2015....
He had 5 yrs to extend the olive branch but decided to use strong head....

Forget all the talk about corrupt practices, they are tools western nations use to demonize people thay dont like in the eyes of the public....

I also disagree that Africans run down whatever they head....
Ethiopian airline is a good example of Africans exemplary management competence.....
At a time western airline are struggling and seeking govt loans to avoid bankruptcy....
EA is declaring profit n expanding its coast....
U know why....
because the Ethiopian government wanted the airline to work and it did.....

U guys should be very careful how u subconsciously push the racist narratives of white supremacist....

Now u assumed the black players in contention are Africans....
Well, there are only 2 African players in Mainz first team, Taiwo awoniyi n one other Cameroonian....
The other black players in the team are German, Dutch, Austrian n Swiss nationals....
They just don't have the type of skin colour he would love to identify with those countries.....

That guy didn't complain about white foreign players in the team.....
He's moaning only about black players...irrespective of NATIONALITY.....

For content creator sublicensing is a world wide thing, it is beneficial to everyone

Imagine if i have a catalog of originial old and classical movies, i can sub-license it to other companies and make money

Do you think government didnt hear the opinion from original content creators like dstv and others before creating the code or do you think dstv does not sub license or buy original movies from movies maker?, they do, all their movies they show in their channels are bought or license from movies makers

This is a win win situation, it is beneficial to all.

Infact, it will help dstv in buying more original contents from local producers
u are just being clever by half....
nobody is interested in old irrelevant movies....

The target is genre that attracts massive viewership among Nigerians- its in the article....
Why should DSTV be forced to sell premiership licence to NTA....
these companies spends millions to acquire these rights or produce programs....
nobody should force them to sell their products cheap for whatever reason.....
If NTA is interested in any program on foreign cables, let them approach the company and talk business....
not hiding behind FG to steal people's intellectual property.....

what stops NTA from developing its own content and competing fairly in the open market....
rather they want to use backdoor policy to steal other people's sweat....

Very few people could afford to buy a brand new Peugeot car then, if your dad bought his after a few months of working, it must have been through a car loan workers were availed to then. Things were not all that cheap because many people struggled but I agree with you the coins were in use then. Newspapers were 15kobo, a bottle of coke was less than 30kobo I could go on and on but it wasn't easy for people then.
My parents bought their brand new beetle for 1600 naira in 1979....
He was earning roughly 2100 per year, while my mum earned roughly the same as a nurse....
Household income was over 4000 naira and they paid cash for the car....
Cost of living must have been cheap for them to save enough conveniently....
How many middle class family can pull such stunt now....

The worst is living in a country and you have no idea how to go. My neighbours son who graduated with a 1st class honours at 23 is parading everywhere now looking for where to apply for job. What nexthuhhuh??

I expected you to talk about real economics given how you started about "purchasing power"
but you ended up on baseless anecdotes just like others.
"Few coins" means nothing without adjusting for inflation.

How much was your father earning per month, you refused to state.
How many months did he work before paying for his car, you refused to state.
Was he from a death poor family without savings or his family were comfortable,
you didn't state.

Maybe it is not your fault, perhaps, he didn't tell you the whole story because economics
can be complicated.

Its the purchasing power that matters....

The withdrawal of Mr. Agah's nomination is in my opinion, a wrong decision influenced by local politics. Mr. Agah who joined the WTO since 2005 as Nigeria's Permanent Representative and later appointed a Deputy Director-General is an insider, and can be trusted and supported by colleagues to reform the WTO. His nomination received overwhelming support within the WTO and the General Council, a body he chaired while serving as Nigeria's Ambassador. May Nigeria not suffer the consequences of this political decision.
Well, personally I wont envy the next DG of WTO....
America has threatened to pull out of WTO, if china's status as a developing economy is not reviewed.....
I'm not really sure how much of help the status of developing economy offers china, but I agree its a disservice for china to claim it's still a developing country.....

Did you read the news of what is going on in Tanzania with the deal China signed with them?

China isn't asking anyone to open their border because with Chinese loan China gets access to and control the very port in question ( taking Tanzania as an example) in which case there is no need to ask for open border because they are the border "police".

Have you asked yourself how it is possible for us to have had several cases of Chinese "illegal" miners littered all over Nigeria?

Because all th deals we signed with China as a caveat that says Chinese will produce a certain percentage of the manpower needed to excite the project. This does not only give them the opportunity to repatriate a huge percentage of the money being loaned you it also allows them easy access within the country.

As per China not getting into our affairs the answer to that is obvious. China know that the more rot in the system the bigger their pay day.

The only way most of the deals China has in Africa was even possible was as a result of the corrupt system we have.

Have you heard of Chinese government investigations of claims of corruption being perpetrated by Chinese companies out here? Of course it was before our very own eyes that we witness the investigation of Halliburton and Siemens.
I personally prefer africa looks towards china than west for business....
We just need to resolute n firm with them....
Chinese are ruthless but they lack the institutional capacity to bully or sanction u....
If u stand your ground...they will bend or leave anyway....

The truth is the west don't understand Africa, despite dealing with us for 50 years....
And they don't want to understand...
Also their interest in Africa is more or less directed towards social responsibility n aids....

What africa need is investment, trade n manufacturing capability.....
Look at the list above n tell me in the current global dispensation....
Who can deliver btw China n western nation...

I think we need to be pragmatic in finding ways to solve our problem....we shouldn't attach too much emotion to our development....

West always insist establishment of independent democratic institution is a pre requisite to development....
But China has made it clear economic development n entrenchment of democratic institution can happen simultaneously without impeding on the other....
This is the truth west has hidden from us for years.....

He can you say that an in-house committee that was likely superintended by one of Adeshina's lackeys was unbiased and independent

Did you even read the allegations against him before coming here to defend him blindly?

Most people who head Nigerian establishments will not survive when given opportunity to head a multinational corporation where there are strict rules of engagement

In case you don't know Adeshina was busy employing only his friends and cronies and flouting organisational procedures.

He thinks he is still in Nigeria where qualified people should only be given jobs based on man-know-man.

He was also doing the usual over-invoicing Nigerians love to do so that he can get kickbacks.

But of course you will not see that one cos you have accepted corruption a a normal thing hence your blind defence of a compatriot

Nigerians and Africans at large are always quick to play the race card whenever a leader of African extraction is called out by the west for wrongdoing...quite a shame really cos that is the reason why we are the most backward continent on the face of the planet.

I am a full-blooded Nigerian but if Adeshina is found guilty then he should be kicked out!
I dont care the dirt thrown at him...
The fact remains the timing is suspect.....why wait until election time to smear him with their media propanganda......
The above is the question u all western apologists have failed to answer....
The so called whistle blowers refused to show up and present their evidence during the ethics committee investigations in jan- march this year....they convenietly stayed away.....
Yet were quick to leak the allegations to the press to ensure character defamation.....
Now they want another independent panel that will most likely take another 4-6 months....
The western nation dont care about any independent panel report....its a tool to make sure he's doesn't contest in August....

Let African nations offer them the option of Adesina stepping down now, but allowed to contest in August....and only resume if he's cleared...
Never....these imperialist will reject it...because it defeats the aim....

I keep saying it....
If all u learn from western nation is freedom and democratic value....

They are tools of manipulation to ensure they remain on top and the rest remain subjugated......

Oga deny the allegations with proofs. Enough of this nationality shit.If a Nigerian abuses his position we should call dem out not trying to stand for them bcox of nationality wateva. Later we go dey yab incompetemt bubu for not prosecuting northerners. This has to stop
A lot of u don't understand what's going here...
its not about the probe, its about the timing of the independent panel...
The election for AFDB president is in August....
If by August, the independent panel hasn't concluded his investigations and clear him....
He can't contest and will be replaced....
The aim of the probe is to prevent him from contesting.....

I'm not exonarating Adesina, this isn't about nationality or anything....
His boardroom game is below par and that's why he's in trouble...

but I want u guys to SEE the real intention of the western nations....
Even if he's cleared after August, he can't come back and game over for him....
PoliticsRe: The 16 Allegations Raised Against Adesina, AfDB President The US Wants Revisited by SIRTee15: 10:24am On May 28, 2020
9gerian:
Some of the allegations are weighty, but would appear insignificant to Nigerians who are used to being violated by their government and leaders without a break.

On the flip side, the real reason he is wanted out may not be stated directly (especially if it’s not to Africa’s benefit), as it may just be that he was putting Africa and Africans first.

Any leader worth his salt would always question the core objectives, and the capacity of his organization to solve real problems. This can be very frustrating if the leader understands most of the problems but is forced to follow laid down bureaucratic systems that are unhelpful for meaningful impact. This is why the media is used extensively by the US government to advance specific narratives that shape the thoughts of the people world over in specific directions. Those directions are not altogether bad, but sometimes, they are very sinister.

As anyone wondered why there seems to be very little impact in spite of the decades of presence of all those donor organizations (USAID, UNESCO, WHO etc) in the poor and developing countries? Sometimes it even looks like they are monitoring spirits with agendas totally separate from helping the host countries. This is while the myopic and uninformed African leaders look on. Most of those organizations appear to promote their parent country’s interest more, thereby compounding the host country’s problems mostly.

Truth be told, the standards for such international organizations are usually very high but become superficial. Superficial because powerful member nations such as the US and other advanced countries get to influence things from the very top, and bend the rules without checks.

In other words this Adeshina’s case may just be that of: Do as I say, and not as I do, which by the way is understandable.

HE THAT PAYS THE PIPER DICTATES THE TUNES! If only Africa could look inwards and get its acts right!

We await the outcome of the independent probe.
I really like your comment...it's very deep...
Especially on presence of donor agencies in Africa...

Adesina probably continued the poor ethical practice n disregard for bureaucratic procedures he met in Afdb....
The former president who's from Rwanda also filled the place up with Rwandese during his tenure.....
And not forgetting the French nationals occupy 65 senior post when their share capital is just 3% (nigeria is 9%).....
But what adesina forgot was the former presidents didn't ruffle any feathers, n probably played the game according to dictate of foreign powers.....

He was going to challenge the established norm, yet got himself dirty....
I don't want to believe he's that stupid.....
Let's wait for the outcome of the independent panel....

As for nairalander painting oyinbo people as saints....
I want to believe they've never lived in any western nation...
Just reside here for 1 year...una eye go clear....

Las...las...
African leaders go get sense....
Let them continue to loot n be subservient to western powers....
Behaving like idio.t mumu....
Africa's humiliation will continue....
And our development will be until thy kingdom come....

shocked Why-on what basis? So because the US is the biggest shareholder in AfDB that now gives them the right to bully everybody around? Except if Akinwunmi Adeshina is truly guilty, the US is simply on a wild goose chase.
The aim isn't to indict him, but to ensure he doesn't get a 2nd term ticket...
The election is in August....
If he's not cleared by August...he can't contest n he will be replaced....
Western nations don't want him back...4get all the talk about impropriety....it's all about the boardroom politics...

Please don't . I don't see much to gain from your plain-vanilla naivete. There's nothing to read. While their streets might look developed to an African, the country is still a middle income country -- with massive amounts of poor people, and minimal social safety nets. You read more articles. I can furnish you with them. As for international basket of currencies, Yuan is a junior member -- Euro, Yen come before it. It has to surpass those before taking aim at the dollar. Plus do you think central bankers trust the chinese closed system. They've been peddling currency swaps for years, even their neighbor India (that should be most interested) is not buying it; instead they are moving troops to the border readying for skirmishes. Africans, be careful what you with for with these chinese -- they are far more ruthless than the West. BTW, the US just sent Nigeria 1,000 ventilators; how many has China sent? I'm waiting. They are busy bribing in Kano and stealing gold in osun. They even bring drivers -- how many western drivers do you see in Nigeria. That should let you know someone is planning to move in.
China is an advanced economy with the largest manufacturing capacity in the world....
They insist on being called developing economy because of the trading benefits....
They lead USA in many new fields of technology including supercomputers, industrial robotics and artificial intelligence....
China spends more on research and development when calculated by PPP....
China top tier cities are far ahead what any american city looks like....
Chinese govt has money, loads of it and they not afraid to spend.....while USA is broke....
America owes 23 trillion dollars in debt and they have no intention to pay back...while China has 4 trillion dollars in reserve.....
American saving grace is petrodollar.....thats the only thing keeping them from bankrupcy....

The future is the China, 21st century is chinese....
Provided they promote trade and investment, and avoid being aggressive.....
Western nations will really have to work twice as hard and be extremely disciplined to reverse the above.....

Now to africa....no nation cares about us...
They are all here to exploit us and keep us weak....

But I'll prefer we deal with china than western nations....
White people don't understand us and don't want to....
They keep insisting we embrace their system as a gateway to prosperity.....
If all u learn from western nation is democratic values n freedom....u are doomed for life.....
China learnt other things but not the above....
We should learn from China.....

You guys like using this emotion-laden conspiratorial style of argumentation. Everything is a conspiracy and allegations of facts are turned into questions of motive as Hannah Arendt would say.

Did he appoint his brother-in-law or not and did it follow due process? Same goes for the contract allegedly awarded. All I get is diatribes about French and US conspirators.

At the heart of it, the Americans (apparently, they are also part of the conspiracy) are saying that this should be investigated independently and not by the ethics committee. This is not too high a hurdle to accomplish.

All the things you say about French motives could all be true without being mutually incompatible with the claim that Adesina acted unethically. Corruption allegations are often used as a weapon to target our enemies - we see a lot of that in Nigeria. But the possibility of this does not dispel the need for a proper independent investigation, it makes it even more compelling for such an investigation to be carried out.
Look here....whats going on here is all about personal interest....
Everybody want their man in charge.....
Forget all this story about nepotism and unethical practice....
Western institution commit worse practices...
U think abacha loot ended up in foreign accounts without their connivance.....
They only use this tool and the media to demonize whoever they want out....

Adesina's only fault is failure to perfect his boardroom game....
And that may be his nemesis....
All these allegations are simply witch hunting...

When adesina resumed in 2015, the French complained he couldn't speak French....
Theyve been dragging issues with him for long...
Why should France be concerned about nepotism when the afdb is packed with French nationals....
Why don't they remove the log from their own eyes first....
France is very guilty of what they accusing adesina....

If the only thing a nation learn n copy from western nations is rule of law and bureaucratic principles...That nation is doomed forever....
They are tools used to subjugate other race to ensure they remain on top...
The only nation to escape their grip is China n we all know why....

I managed to find the Le Monde Afrique article which provides a bit more details. See excerpts:

https://www.lemonde.fr/afrique/article/2020/04/05/a-la-banque-africaine-de-developpement-le-president-adesina-conteste-par-des-employes_6035653_3212.html

PS: Use Google Translate or other translation software to convert the article from French to English.
Don't be fooled by the french media sudden concern about nepotism in Afdb....
France wants him out badly...
They will be the biggest loser if adesina returns as president....
He has decentralised the operation of the bank making it impossible for France to control from Paris....

Nigeria has only 4 senior staff members....check their names in my previous thread....despite being the largest shareholder.....something the article conveniently forgot to mention......
France on the other hand, has 65 senior staffs working in the bank....mind u their contribution is insignificant....
Did article mention that...no..

Forget all this talk....France is just paranoid their stronghold on francophone countries will soon be dismantled.....
Even the chairperson of the board, an Ivorian has agreed the indictment should be squashed....
During the panel investigation, none of the whistleblowers came out to testify, they neither sent credible facts to back their claim to the panel....
Adesina already said he donated the 750 thousand dollars award to charity......
They ain't got nothing on him, they just using the media to discredit him.....

However, if he must go, then nigeria should insist one of the guys he brought to the bank as replacement....
The bank vp okonkwo and the former PENCOMM boss Chinelo are good replacement....
The stronghold of France on African countries must come to an end....

Dunce, that is still nepotism at play at international level. Internationally, he is favoring Nigerians over other Africans.

But in Nigeria, your people favour your own people over other tribes in Nigeria. It's a well know fact all over Nigeria and I have had personal experiences.

If you like hit your head on the wall, it's a statement of fact!

Dimwit!
U regurgitated an ignorant n baseless statement which I promptly destroyed with facts.
Now u changing the goal post...
During Adesina's tenure as President, Nigeria has the 3rd highest number of employee despite being the largest shareholder...
France has 65 senior staffs working at the bank.....(5% of total staffs), despite insignificant shareholding....

Now a Nigerian is doing the right thing at the bank....
and all u could do is lament about your personal misfortunes......
As if anyone cares....
If u don't have anything meaningful to contribute, abeg carry your lamentation elsewhere....
