My advice to everyone who buys or sells foreign currency:

If you want to change dollar or Pound sterling;

1. Go to appropriate places where legal and operational Bureau De Change is/are located.
2. Look for a bureau de change shop or office and go in, don’t transact at the entrance.
3. Meet the owner of the business/shop, not the surrogate/boy/mallam/loafers.
4. State the reason for your visit and agree on the exchange rate first
5. Allow them to give you the cash equivalent of your agreed sum before you hand over your cash. This is to avoid fake money or lost
money.
6. If you come with a car, don’t transact business through the windows of your car, come down and do the business.
7. Check the correctness of your money before leaving the premise.
8. Have a dedicated customer whom you transact with every time.
9. Do business with a ‘mallam’ first before any other tribe. This is my suggestion though.

Good luck to you all!
Very very sad but true. I have never ever being scammed by a mallam before (as far as foreign currency is concerned)
They are pretty honest individuals. I have some numbers on speed dial and those are the customers i deal with every bloody time. Sorry for your loss. Point 2 is very very important as well - a physical office.

Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Sometimes I Want To Regret Going To School by stonecoldcafe: 1:53pm On Sep 09, 2015
forix4u:
Sometimes I want to regret going to school because arguably I still fail to see the reasons or benefits of going to school. Yesterday a friend of mine whose parents took him to learn electrical on cars after primary school, went to withdraw 1.5m to purchase a jeep. His story building is near completion, married and blessed with 2 wonderful kids. We all know what it takes to have a story building in Lagos. This my friend barely reads a simple sentence.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not envious of him rather I'm happy but today, I'd to take a seat and remembered how he convinced me to join him in learning this same handiwork that has made him the prospective landlord and car owner that he's today while I chose to go to school to acquire a certificate only to have graduated and served fathers land without a job to even make boast of. I also have some friends who dropped after secondary school, today they are all married and living good...

It's kinda annoying and I don't know if to say regrettable for going to school because it has not even paid off. The annoying aspect self is most jobs today can't even foot one's expenses and bills due to the hash economy and almost every job you get today is contract base, so one begins to think what is the purpose of spending several years reading without any tangible benefit awaiting stresslessly.
I know how you feel. Its never too late to learn that trade. I know loads of friends who after their degree delved into other things. Some learnt those things during the long ASU strike break. You will always have an edge with your degree. Where there is life, there remains hope.

Go for it brother! Don't wallow in regret.

One of the reasons i have my reservations about work life in Lagos. But it always seems all the works in this country are amassed in Lagos. 80% of the jobs on Nairaland and jobsites are in Lagos. Must we all move to Lagos??

Funny enough, when i look at the life uncles and cousins are living in Lagos, i feel somehow....... Some have been working for close to 10yrs with no house and meaningful investment. Rather they tell me how difficult and expensive things are, a 2bedroom flat could be like 700k for a year + agent.. Now how do one cope when the children started going to school and bills grows while salary may be crawling...

Yes one would be working in lagos but ur mates in town like ibadan, akure, osogbo, owerri, minna would have built their house, own some other investments that they could run to even when the hard times knocks... This is why many lagosian don't want to come home when they are called upon, except if u are lucky to get a huge salary job..

Lagos! stop tempting me, am scared of you. lolz
Excellent point especially as regards housing and building your home in Nigeria. I agree its faster for folks in other cities with lesser income to build their home than an average working class dude in Lagos.

True story. I had an uncle, very very wealthy man. He was at the top of his profession. I recall during my NYSC days going to greet him in his office. As I left his office that day (on the island) I admired his staff, black SUV, family, flashy lifestyle, house on Banana Island, frequent trips abroad et al.

Do you know sadly this man died and that's when we knew the Banana Island house was not his. He had no property not even a hut in the village! He lived paying people stuff in Lagos - i.e office rent, house rent and so on. He was buried as a wealthy man in the same Lagos - Ikoyi Vault.

This life is very funny oooo.

Suffer with your woman. Go through a lot with her. Have kids with her. Go through thick and thin with her. Then God suddenly bless u with wealth. You begin to think of the most beautiful women in the world.

Life Oh life.

I really pity Oshiomhole's children from his late first wife because this woman will shortchange them so badly eehh. The way oshiomole is going about this woman, I am sure he has signed everything he has on her name leaving his children to their fate.
What do you want from this poor widower? The man even try sef. The late wife died since and he spent years without a wife. Has this man not tried? What is the average period for a man to mourn a wife in this our obodo Nigeria?

Now to the children, is it not your desire to do better than your father? If you father leaves you something then we thank God but it is not your birth right as such. He has trained up his children, he has brought them up well and i hear so many of them are abroad. I can bet their desire will not be to come and inherit a house in Benin or in village but nevertheless Oshiobaba is reasonable man. He will leave something for them as every good father will do but let the man enjoy his young wife please. ~By the way why are you talking about inheritance issues for a living man? I hope...

Emeka like is such a pathetic liar.

The wife is currently in psychological trauma cos of what Emeka like made her pass through.
That lady cannot even mention 1/10th of what she passed through in the hands of that man.

He beats her even at the sight of the children. Emeka like sleeps with anything on skirt no matter the age or class. Their was a neighbour that was always sending the maids home cos of pregnancy. Little did they know Emeka like was responsible for the fate of their neighbours. Emeka Ike smokes had drugs even in the compound. There was an occasion that he was smoking DT at the back of their house, one of the kids saw him suddenly and he offed it and bit the child mercilessly. What is the child's offence?

She is currently putting up with friends. I heard Emeka like has so brain washed the kids that on one occasion the came to court, the woman wanted to touch the kids and the shrugged off her hand. It is only God that can heal her of the emotional and psychological trauma that man has put her in.
I don't want to talk too much but i know Emeka is not clean. Emma his wife is someone i know. She is a saint. This man is making all the noise in the world because he believed she will die without him but she is sailing on. May God continue to heal her. Why live in bondage when you can walk with your two feet and sanity in tact?

I would hv left him a long time ago but I jst think twice cos of two reasons
1) Cos of my children, hw I will take them along wit me
2)Cos am not working yet, I can't provide 4 myself n my children
I knew you were not working. Ask me how i knew you were a stay at home mum? 9 out of 10 times, a man disrespects and continously cheats on a woman who depends solely on him for every single damn thing. He knows you cannot and will not go anywhere cos you are wholly dependant on him. A Man also misbehaves when his wife works but he tends to hide or break the thing off entirely when the woman is equally powerful in her own right. He knows she will not eat nonsense from him. He will rarely flaunt it in her face because he knows the repercussion is grave.

Madam, get something to do with your hands. Go and learn a trade or something; there is power in a woman who can stand on her own two feet. Stay at home mum is so old school!

Am a well dedicated nairalander but I created this new account for this issue. I have been married for 4 years now with 3 children and since the 2nd year of our marriage my husband has been constantly cheating on me.

The way he goes about it is even heartbreaking, he does it like his into a love relationship with them and not just for fun.

There is this particular girl that he calls like 3 times everyday because I check his call log and saw they keep in touch more than twice everyday. I stupidly called the girl and warned her to stay clear off my man and she confessed he didn't tell her he was married, I confronted my hubby and he was forming defensive and was telling me dat am accusing him wrongly and he will soon start cheating. I called the girl back in the evening and she told me that even as am calling that his call is entering her phone, that he called earlier to beg her to give him chance to explain..The next day I left with my children to a far away state and he pleaded that he will change and all that. The issue is that he continued with this shameless behaviour, our live-in nanny later confessed to my cousin last month that he approached her and I was so devastated. He knelt down and begged and I easily forgave him..

Forgive me for my long episode but I really need your help on how to punish him cos I went to his call log yesterday and saw the same girl that made me take the risk to leave with my children to another state calling him again and he is reciprocating the calls..his a very jealous person, he goes crazy when a male friend calls me..I want to make him pass through all the pains I have endured all these years.. What do I do pls?
Cheat on him too and break his heart. He will go to hell and back but then pay him no heed. Two can play that game. Just ignore him and begin your hot plan. He will soon pee in his trouser.

Also dont be a silly woman; make sure you are well protected or just leave him alone for now. You dont want to have to contend with HIV do you?

You said a lot of things that make sense at the end of your post but who says it will be easy. I stand my ground, the OP should go and get his wife back. We are talking about another mortal man claiming your wife while you are alive!

OP should leave every freaking sentiment and face the challenge as if one fool is trying to take all his money. @ stonecold replace the wife with money and tell me how you will deal with this case, tell me boldly that you will ignore your hard earned money for 10 years for any reason.
You have a brilliant point however note a wife has her will. She is a human being and not a chattel. By all means op should go after her (I don't think he should give up on her; not at all) but remember she has her will power. She may choose to return or remain out there. Op can't put a rope around her neck and tug her home.

Your message sounds funny but you hit the nail on the head. OP failed his responsibility as a husband and a man, he acted like that servant that returned the one talent given to him and call his master a wicked man. OP if you are reading this, am a married man so am telling you that you have failed to protect your second half despite the fact that bible has already told you that she is a weaker vessel, yet you allow her vessel to tear off.

Piece of advice : Go and get your wife back because she is your responsibility.
Easy on op. Can you protect who does not want to be protected. If you tell a woman don't go there and she says no and runs off, what can you do? If you preach, advise and even call family to intervene and she says you dont want her to go to church because you are a cultist, what can a man do? What can you do to a woman who is set in her evil ways? What if you continue praying and she continues with her fake pastor and remains in disobedience, what can a man do? Its only God that can save one from such gullible persons. That is why one must be vigilant during the dating and courtship days. It is not only to buy snacks and kiss... character matters a lot

Mr man you are a boy in a man's body. You sef nor dey pity person so if she is bathing the kids or taking her bath you will sit down there until she returns. Is she not your wife? Why would i want her to come by my side again and begin to dish food for me like i am back again in kindergarten? bigben431:
Blah blah blah, everyone complaining. An opportunity exists when a problem arises. The question is what can be done to mitigate or curb this. From my little experience exporting agricultural products, the most money is made in post harvest., logistics, storage and marketing.

I was shocked to see this myself at the ikeja store when last I was in naija, I managed to talk to one of the purchasing guys at an event a few days later (mainly by coincidence) and he said the problem was shoprite did not have time to go seek out suppliers in naija they expect nigerian suppliers to send in proposals. He also said that when they gave contracts to nigerian firms to supply - after a few supplies they became inconsistent, not meeting up demand etc. He said they rather source from Ghana and S. Africa where they are sure of consistent supply. Most of these applies to fruits and vegetables.

So maybe some folks here can form a co-op approach shoprite, source bulk from up north and supply them. If you can figure out the storage and preservation aspect..you don strike gold. Start with a few stores and as you increase capacity expand, before you know am you will become a brand name.

My two cents.
You have spoken well. Organisation, consistency, good business ethics will pay of. Its a pity even Ghana can get their act together but in Naija it seems like its everyman for himself. In this sort of instance, one needs corporation and the body of fruit sellers need to come together and organize themselves abi na from one farm person dey source all these food items? It will not work like that. Well i'm not too shocked at Ghana because i know they have been supplying foreign stores abroad (UK and co) and those guys even have higher standards. No kidding.

Most organisations lack that here in Nigeria. Think of a million times someone has told you come today and they have failed. Think of even the small welder, tailor, market woman and co that has told you that a million times here. It seems like it is ingrained in our culture. Thats it for you. One must be ready for business with these guys. Thats how it works. I beg you oga, i use God beg you will not work. I feel your statement up there! You really hit the nail in the coffin!
