PoliticsRe: Fashola Inspects 2nd Niger Bridge Project, Asaba Section (Photos) by teepain: 3:59pm On Feb 12, 2020

I acknowledge that but Fashola always gives excuses, thats the reality. Amaechi could have found excuses, afterall he is facing the same issues. If you look at Fashols's history, he takes glory but when things dont work it's always someone elses fault, even when he chop, he say he didnt sign cheques.

Fashola Is overated, end of and I knew he would be found out when he gets to federal level!!!!
I like that we are having a civil discourse. However, I do not see Fashola as someone who gives excuses.

If he said as early as 2017 that 2/3rd of the amount required for Lagos-Ibadan express was cut in the budget and the national assembly agreed with him citing the need to prioritize projects then you can't fault him for the slow speed of the project.

He further asserted that the about 10billion naira provided for that project in the 2017 budget could bearly cater for the 15 billion naira already owed contractors.

This is in sharp contrast to Amaechi's acknowledgement of total provision of counterpart funding for the Lagos-ibadan railway line.

The fact is that the national assembly has the capacity to prioritize and affect the speeds of completion of projects through budgetary provisions.

As governor of Lagos State, Fashola was the poster boy of good governance and quite a number of governors from other states, across party lines, had to understudy some of his projects. At that point, I don't remember him giving excuses.

And please, my submission does not detract from the fact that Amaechi is a wonderful person and has performed well

isthatso:
Excuse me all rail projects had local funding components.that required appropriation
You are correct to the extent that the railway project has local funding component.

However, what I meant was that because of the Chinese counterpart funding and the consequences of breaching the contract, FG has made available the complete local funding as early as 2017 and there was no need for a yearly back and forth on appropriation and budget defence.

While in the case of the expressway, funds have been made available piecemeal, on a yearly basis. Infact, there were reported instances of the budgeted amount being slashed under the leadership of Senator Bukola Saraki, the Senate President, as he then was.

Now, I'm not in any way defending Fashola but I just like for us to compare apples to apples. If you, as a person, were to be evaluated for performance and non-performance; I would try to do that vis-a-vis the resources that were made available to you.

"Fashola said the budget for Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was slashed by more than two-thirds from N31 billion to N10 billion, even as contractors have demanded an outstanding payment of N15 billion."

Only a fool will open his mouth condemning Amaechi and praising FAshola. FAshola is a monumental failure considering the hype and Amaechi is no doubt the best minister we’ve had since 1999.....bar none! I speak as a Yoruba man. Name a major project FAshola has finished, all he does is go on TV speaking English and theory..if this, then that...deliverables nothing. In the time Amaechi delivered Lagos Ibadan rail from scratch, FAshola has barely improved on what he met on Lagos Ibadan express.
The Lagos-Ibadan railway line and Lagos-Ibadan express way may not be a fair comparison considering the fact that the railway project is fully funded by the Chinese and Amaechi wouldn't be hindered by funding and budgetary process while the Ibadan expressway is funded by the Nigerian government and it has to go through appropriation. Knowing how slow our budgetary procceses are and coupled with the fact that the national assembly may not appropriate as much as is fairly required for a project in a fiscal year, then you may want to cut BRF some slack.

A lot of Nigerians are working their hands to the bones to make ends meet. How many people will government compensate? How many would government give jobs? There has been ban on importation of some goods and that has affected a lot of importers; how would government compensate those categories?

Both Muslim and Christian leaders who do not exercise restraints on their utterances are dangerous. Because of the control they wield over their followers, they ought to demonstrate some control. That is why I appreciate Pa Adeboye; he doesn't make careless utterances.

I'm waiting to see what those Mumuric organization have to say on this because they're always senseless and reckless with their comments... SMH!
Sadly, Nigerians might have allowed sensationalism and religious coloration to becloud their judgement.

It is really sad that the young man might have been accused wrongfully if it truly turns out that what he had him was not a bomb.

Going forward, Nigerians should learn to refrain from throwing stones into the market because it could end up hitting one of their family members.

1. Winners' securitymen apprehended the youngman accusing him of being in possession of bomb and attempting to blow up the church and handed him over to policemen

2. Without waiting for results of investigation, CAN and FFK concluded, it was Muslims that sent the youngman

3. MURIC joined in the irresponsible display of preempting outcome of investigation by calling him "a Christian bomber"

Now that it is coming out that the young man might have been in possession of non harmful materials, what would FFK say? What would MURIC say?

This guy might just be prosecuted wrongfully because of some people's indiscretion.

The issue is not even having many children, but having them in a failed country like naija, which makes it harder to evacuate them in a crisis situation or when the country descends into a civil war. I talk like this because I am very observant & I pay attention to the political happenings in Nigeria & I know the country is on a very precarious state & will not get better any time soon.
Refer to my emphasis. Nigeria is failed partly because of irresponsible parenting. In the 60s and prior to the 90s, parents gave birth indiscriminately expecting the state to care for the children via free education, free health care service. While they were giving births indiscriminately, they were consuming their resources and that of their future generations.

They destroyed all institutions without thinking of how to bake a larger cake.

U.S and other developed countries are the way they are because their citizens have learnt to be responsible; they give birth to the number of children they can care for inspite of the several social support available to the poor in those communities.

BreconHills:
I have read the article and while I agree with the facts, I dispute the conclusion. The desire for foreign foodstuff and clothes is not a simply function of fx pricing rates. It is a function of irrational desire for all that is foreign. The writer of the article wrote from the standpoint of logical economics without adding any behavioral finance elements that would have made his article realistic.

What the new border policy does is give pause to those who have 1. Chosen to make all things foreign their badge of honour and 2. Those who supply their whims.

You may remember that at a time the juice market in Nigeria was dominated by Just Juice. Today following a ban and the inevitable poor quality of the product caused time period of time/poor storage of the product, we now have several local varieties valued at billions of naira and employing or distributing value to hundreds of thousands of Nigerians with multiplier effects to millions.

The long term change is a change in consumption patterns through deprivation of immediate gratification and the existence of viable local alternatives. It is not a "whack a mole" strategy. Anyone who has played that game knows that there is no strategy to it other than knee jerk reactions. The policy of import substitution is key to the future of the Nigerian economy. Creating a disconnect between demand and supply puts Nigeeia on a "cold turkey" withdrawal from its foreign origin drug.

The complaints we have now are merely the withdrawal symptoms of drug addicts on the mend. We "go soon dey alright"
You sure do know your economics and finance. Kudos!

Wickedness is embedded in the DNA of a Nigerian and it starts from children. If these cats were killed for their perceived tendency for witchcraft, how do we explain the reason why school aged children stone lizards to death? As in they don't eat lizards in Nigeria and lizards are not dangerous or known to attack humans hence killing them doesn't add up. Yet you see children pursuing them with stones with the intention of killing them!

Honestly with the kind of contributions I'm reading here, the legislators would do well to prescribe more stringent penalties for battery and assault.

The op battered the wife and some folks here are seeing that as something that is normal!

In saner climes charges would be pressed against him, not because the wife wants a separation, but just to teach him never to settle issues with his fists.

If you wanna be a boxer or sumo wrestler, there are platforms that will financially reward you for fighting.

Only weak men lay their hands on women. If op sees his mate now, he wouldn't want to fight because "he no go like to collect"

Again, not so true. To male chefs who love their job; they enjoy cooking and it is fun to them.

Again, they prefer to cook most times because very few people can match their culinary expertise and they easily detect poorly made dishes. So they would rather prepare what they want.

Chefs see cooking as fun. Infact, as a chef you will be forced to cook when your children are always expecting those gourmet dishes from you.

How could she not receive alerts from money lodged in her account? Like someone said earlier "They are born thieves". She has been withdrawing money from the account which is not hers, thereby making her accompliance to the crime.
She would not receive alerts since Maina provided another phone number different from the one she uses.

She has access to the bank manager over travil matter, when people with ambigious bank issues are restricted at the customer care point...doesn't that shows that she is not just a customer but one with contacts
Once an account is blocked and there is an "arrest at sight" order on an account, the branch manager would be alerted if the account owner is sighted within the bank and the branch manager or head of operations will alert the security operatives to come and pick the person up, so she didn't need to have contacts.

She testifying against his brother is scripted just to exornerate herself and keep some loot
If she had ever operated or benefitted from that account under investigation; then she cannot exonerate herself and keep any loot like you posited, because that would establish that she was complicit.

I believe that investigations would have revealed that she was in the dark as per the existence of the account hence she is being used as a prosecuting witness.

The active ingredient of all alcoholic drinks is ethanol and the part per million (concentration) changes when you dilute with water.

Some alcoholic drinks are 45%, 12% depending on concentration.

By diluting it with water or non-alcoholic drinks, the concentration of alcoholic drinks is reduced and you tend to drink less and get filled up faster.
