You talk like a kid, an ignorant one at that. I have been in Lagos for over 40 years. I watched Lagos develop. When I moved to V/I in 1980, it was relatively undeveloped. We had to take independence bridge to get to where law school is now, there was no Falomo bridge. There was a village between ahmadu bello and the ocean then.
I know many indigenous Lagosians, even most of the traditional ruling families. I personally know the Onirus, the Ojoras, the Oyekans and many others.
Lagos was developed by outsiders not indigenes. Indigenes were/are mostly "omoniles" selling lands to others, who in turn build modern buildings. Of course some also went into property development.

I knew many people that lived in bar beach and NPA shanty in the late 2000s. There were hardly any known criminal living there. That is irrelevant. As long as Lagos is a state in Nigeria and the constitution provides for free movement, there is nothing you can do. You cannot deport Nigerians to their states.

How will granting Lagos special status ameliorate the problem? Granting Lagos special status simply means Lagos collecting more from the federation account. This means Lagos will build more infrastructure (theoreticall), which will further attract more migrants from other states. It was the granting of special status to Lagos by the colonialists that caused the problem in the first place. Why put all our eggs in such a tiny state when Nigeria has huge landmass? The main problem of Lagos and Nigerian cities as a whole is poor urban and physical planning, concentrating physical infrastructures in very few cities or areas.

What do you mean "they should be deported" many people came to Lagos before your parents were born, and have contributed immensely to the economy of Lagos. Lagos was developed by non indigenes. It's not always about running from their own states, it's has more to do with urban planning. Shanties are natural occurrence of high brow urban areas without adequate planning for low income housing. Low income housing should go hand in hand with high income developments. The high income earners needs and hire low income workers like driver's, maids, gardeners, etc. Where do you want them to stay. High income earners need low income services like mechanics, vulcanisers, electricians and convenience shops, where do you want the owners of these services to stay. To make matters worse, the V/I and lekki areas his now a commercial and business district, no provisions whatsoever is made for low income workers..., and you don't expect Shanties to develop?

Each time a shanty is demolished, another one develops to take its place. That has been the history of Shanties along that V/I - lekki axis. From maroko to bar beach, to other Shanties that had been demolished down the years.

At 7.am, he did a roll call and as each one's name was mentioned, a cheque of his entitlements was given and the staff escorted outside the premises.

The countries were set up to provide raw materials for European industries, and provide a ready market for their finished goods. This is how the economies of colonial west and central Africa was set up.

Unlike when we tried to help South Africa and Ghana, they came back throwing it to our face. Those french Africans would also do the same in the short or long run.

South African and to some extent Ghana are not our brothers, they are separate people of separate tribes and language. Benin republic, Chad, Niger and Cameroon share the same people. It is difficult separating the eguns and Tapa of Benin Republic from their Yoruba brothers. Same with Fulanis in Nigeria from their Daura brothers. Ditto for Bakassi and adama adamawa. People are still accusing Atiku of being Cameroonian instead of Nigerian. The colonialists used language, currency and force to separate these people.

If we become a force to reckon with, like China and Brazil that cannot be left out of any political and economic decision, then we can look further into integration those junkyards like Benin, Niger and Cameroon, because at that point, we can prove to them that black people can also become something without France or any western poo. Just as the Chinese, Indonesians and Brazilians have proved themselves.

If all those can be achieved, we can call anybody's bluff.

The fact is that all these countries are already a heavy burden on the Nigeria economy. We already subsidise their fuel, we provide them power, these countries in fact depends heavily on the Nigeria economy to survive. The old staff would see that hundreds are ready to take their place and start feeling threatened, they feel too comfortable and secure.

After all these try and communicate with the staffs directly, always ask them their opinions before taking major decisions. Also try and give some incentives no matter how small, to loyal and hard workers.

I wish I can like your post a million times. Africans are too blinded by greed, shortsightedness, impatience and religion to realize that our real enemies are outsiders and not our fellow neighbours. African countries were created by colonialists to always be in a state of perpetual conflicts. They usually lump countries with many independent and autonomous tribes together, not in one country but spread over many countries, and then give power in those countries to minority tribes
A conflict in one country by minority tribes has impact in other countries with that tribe as majority. This model was even adopted by African leaders in creating states.

This is one reason, I tell my Biafran and other separatist brothers that dismemberment of Nigeria would play into the French agenda. They would be the single most powerful force in West Africa. As dysfunctional as Nigeria is, we are still the main treat to French domination of West Africa.
