andy244: what is the meaning of slip and vdc and what does it do in a car. please advice
Vehicle Dynamic Control faults, Something as simple as a brake light switch, steering angle sensor error or low brake fluid could cause those malfunction indicator lights.
I am negotiating for a VW Passat 1999 or 2000 model with a guy in Germany. He told me that there are ones with 2.0L 1.8L 1.6L. This is why I asked cause I don't understand what those specifications mean. Which do think is better? 2.0L or 1.8L or 1.6L.
Thanks once again.
i would suggest a 1.8l its in between 1.6 L & 2L but that depends with what are you looking for in car eg powerful engine or average
Dereformer: What does the 1.6L 1.8L and 2.0L mean when it comes to cars?
How fuel efficient is VW passat, VW bora, and VW vento? Also are the parts readily available?
it is the is the volume swept by all the pistons inside the cylinders of car, in simple terms the more space you have in a cylinder the more air and petrol/diesel you can put in and the bigger the bang, the bigger the bang the more powerful is the stroke but its not that simple becoz of things like turbo, supercharge etc
as for efficient of the cars you asked we need to know the engine size of the cars becoz you cant not compare 1 litre engine and a 2 litre
remember that cars can have the same engine size (aka 1L 2L etc) but the effiecience differ from car to car and manufacturer, your driving habits and things like services on parts etc
Kunle-A: I have noticed in recent times that lots of people are having problem with their brainbox. Brainbox are not too often going bad here in the US.
I am wondering if there are just careless mechanic or something else is going on.
I just help someone shipped a brand new brainbox (plus ignition key and module) about 3 weeks ago for 2002 Jeep Liberty. He was having problem getting it programmed. I spoke with him yesterday to see how far everything is going. He told me that sadly the brand new brainbox was accidentally destroyed by the mechanic.
The mechanic is like family to him so he cannot get him arrested or make him pay for another one.
Moral of the story: I am shopping for a used one now again. The last one we shipped almost cost a total of about $900 by the time it Landed in Port harcourt.
Felt sorry for the guy.
the problem is that people dont know the differene between a mechanic and an auto electrician
wheel balancing is done each and every time you change the tyre
then alignement is done when the car has lost it tracking e.g the car swave to the right to left when you take off your hands of the steering or when the tyres worn out unevenly
he is coning you on doing them again unless if you going to change the tyres again and if the tyres are unevenly worn out
omo-nla: Is it a must that my car must steam or pour water from the exhaust in the morning? If it does not steam, does it mean the engine has begin to wear.
What are the thing that can make car engine to wear easily, will carrying four person at the back seat of a car (Camry 96) have a side effect on the car engine.
I need answers to this questions pls.
a car has net weight and gross dont exceed the gross weight, it damages the suspension and stress the engine
thats the reason you find most mini buses in africa dont last more than 3 years looking good and driving good there are always overloaded

codes meaning are easy to find the meaning just google the code than having to post here and wait for our replies
here in UK it means am giving you the right of way(out of courtesy ), i.e based on UK roads if am turning right on a filtered traffic light and the filter hasnt opened up but the other traffic light is green (straight through traffic), the opposite front car can flash me, giving me the right to turn before s/he continues straight through
other example in a 3 lane motor way am in the middle lane indicating to go into the 1st lane, the car behind me can flash me, meaning its safe for me to get in front of him/her, s/he will reduce speed for me to accomodate me in front of him/her
jeezybuck: First Adjust the seat second start the engine third boost the car stereo (that gingers the driving) Forth Turn off the engine Fifth Get out of the damn car Sixth Fly Okada

efetoma: I changed the 'Brain Box' when i had the same problem with my Maxima, and it worked.....but after spending so much changing almost all the unnecessary parts.
you were conned a ECU never makes a car smoke
its seem like backyard mechanics in nigeria always blame the ECU with even looking it to pc to read faults

jobaskia: @as-salam U are quite right that fear of God is a key to ensure that marriage is sustained, but in another sense a woman is the big 'factor' to make sure her marriage to anyone should be based on how she is a able to persevere and endures the challenges that comes with marriages.
For instance, when my nikkah was just six days i was relieved from my position where i worked , but i felt undaunted and decided to move , i kept it a secret between myself and my sister not to disclose to anyone. I equally ensure i was not remorsed on the nikkah day ,the officiating alfa spent just an hour to solemnize the two of us , a lot of friends/ were very surprise they like this kind of nikkah ceremony i only told my father in- law after i got another job with a company because i know the psychological impact it will have on my wife . I ensure my parent did'nt spill the beans as well. My marriage is moving to 7th year now ,but no be beans oh . All Glory to God
In all, i strongly believed is our women to salvage, persevere and endure within the period to ensure that they do not listen to side talk, mingle with friends, they should be patient, to be contented with whatever their spouse gives them . Women are quite loving , respectable, wise and they could be gullible but still have other qualities one can really appreciate them for. Like my parent now have been married for the past 56yrs with 8 surviving children and we are all doing very well .
Its a milestone to achieve, but with the right woman, God's guidance, everything is at your beck and call.
i beg to differ it got nothing to do with the fear of GOD
long back becoz of culture and social life women in marriages especially women stayed becoz of dynamics of culture and social life, i.e traditonally it was a man's job to provide for a woman while she manages what you provide as a man, society long back never accepted a woman who stayed and provided her own self everything had to be done under marriage. for a woman to have a social status etc it had to be to through marriage even if the husband was abusive they stayed in marriages becoz society at that looked down on divorcee etc so the divorce rate where very low becoz women had no other choices becoz culture and society had its dynamics that had women depend on man
now things have changed society has accepted that a women can look after herself financially so women dont look for man to be looked after but for what the other half can be put on the table, they can walk out of marriage emotionally or physically abused but she can soldier on aslong she is working and paying her rent etc
i would say tables have changed a bit, women nolonger stay in bad marriages, the game is like two rich people marrying each other if things go bad they aint afriad to divorce becoz they got money to look after her self without the other partner being involved but if it was the rich man marrying an average girl, the average girl would prefer to stay becoz she knows that she wont be able to look after her self
okpara ugo: I drove my car for the first 2 years without lifting my hood. I did it like once in 3 months and whenever I did, oil and water levels remained same so i never thought it was important. As time went on, car parts wore and got older, my water pump dealt a death blow on my engine and that day the radiator ran empty. I lost that engine 2months later.
Checking it regularly doesnt mean your car is bad. Its a precaution especially if you are driving a used car.
checking daily can be a habit or you dont trust your car meaning you aint sure of its condition but if you know that your car well that you can check once every month or weekly not everyday
pannyman: When I was learning to drive, one of the first things I was taught was to check my oil and water first thing in the morning before starting the car. Now that I own my own car I do that three or for times a week. Ideally, it should be everyday.
I have noticed that most drivers take things for granted and never look under the bonnet in the morning with disastrous consequences sometimes. I know how many times my vigilance has paid off, helping me detect leaky poor quality oil filters. Drivers should spare just two minutes and check their coolant and oil levels to avoid rude shocks from their cars.
once every month is alright depending on journeys you do. eg if you do 2 or 3 long journeys per week then you should check oil and water levels every week, if the journeys are local then once every month is a right
the everyday one means something is wrong with your car if its losing oil or cooliant etc on daily basic
BMWs and other high-end cars are being stolen by unskilled criminals using a $30 tool developed by hackers to hack the onboard security systems. The new tool is capable of reprogramming a blank key, and allows non-techie car thieves to steal a vehicle within two or three minutes or less.
On-board diagnostics (OBD) bypass tools are being shipped from China and Eastern Europe in kit form with instructions and blank keys, says a news report linking the release of the tool to a spike in car thefts in Australia, Europe and elsewhere during 2012. Would-be car thieves need to grab the transmission between a valid key fob and a car before reprogramming a blank key, which can then be used to either open the car or start it, via the OBD system.
"Crooks only need to monitor a person using the key or interrogate the key fob to get enough information to decipher the key," explained Professor David Stupples, of the centre for cyber security sciences, at London's City University.
Weak cryptography combined with a security-through-obscurity approach in the OBD specification allows the tactic to succeed.
Police in the UK have also begun warning about the approach, which was highlighted by a recent BBC Watchdog investigation.
In response, BMW told the BBC that the carjacker/hacker technique was developed after its cars were designed and was limited to "older" BMW models – those built before September 2011.
The German car giant added that the issue was not limited to BMW, and promised to help mitigate the attack, in a statement published last Wednesday.
BMW prides itself on its vehicle security systems and all BMWs meet all UK and global security standards. Our engineers and technicians review all aspects of our vehicles constantly, including security systems.
After extensive research we are clear that none of our latest models - new 1 Series Hatch, 3 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series and 7 Series - nor any other BMW built after September 2011 can be stolen using this method. However, as a responsible manufacturer we are looking at ways of mitigating against this new kind of attack.
A spokesman for the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, the UK trade association, said it was aware of the issue but wasn't able to say how many other manufacturers were involved. "BMW [is] updating its systems and it could well be that other manufactures will do something similar," he said, adding that although SMMT was working with UK police forces on the issue it didn't have any information to hand on the scale of the problem.
erico2k2: Hope you realize the car is in motion not idled or motionless, when you do you driving test, in teh Uk you will be advised not to do this(drive in the nutral position) cos what happens is that you dont have full control of your car there is such thing as Engine breaking, so driving withouth the engine being ebgaged put full stress on the break system.
you dont know the difference between the car in neutral and a car that has been switched off
a car that has been switched off is hard to control becoz the steering would be back into manual and so are the brakes
but a car in neutral all the things will be working expect that the gears are not engaged
yusuf_@: I use it when i'm in a convoy, mostly when i'm on a long distant journey! I guess it's a nigerian thing to do that!
For those that use it to indicate that their cars have broken down, try not to nxt time cos it cld run down ur battery, that's what ur triangle is for. i'm talking from experience.
Plus, i think it's kind of cool, it gives u a clear lane on d express, though it hardly works if a woman is d one driving d car in ur front.
what the point of saving the battery when your car has developed a problem and i cant move ? hence the hazard lights warns other motorist to approach with caution which saves life than an battery with can be recharged
